9:07 I’m confused at this part. What do you mean Serena was “the first” PokéGirl who genuinely pursued her passion for Contests and Performances? May and Dawn’s arcs were all *about* their passion for Contests.
May didnt know what she wanted to do in the beginning of the show and i think with Dawn he's trying to say that she became a pokemon coordinator cause her mom was also one, so that influenced her decision. meawhile serena she was a rhyhorn racer who dreamed of being able to be free and travel doing showcases.

Grew up with the indigo league and quit watching half way through hoenn and the games too. Remember getting back into the pokemon games first with Pokemon Black and Black 2. It's definitely underrated. The most vocal members of the fandom definitely didn't give it a chance because they thought that the XY anime would be the new standard for the Pokémon Anime from then on out, even though the status quo reasserted itself once Ash lost against Alain, released Greninja, and parted ways with Serena. Once they saw that Sun and Moon did a complete 180° in terms of tone and characterization compared to XY, they were whining and moaning about how Sun and Moon "ruined the Pokémon Anime forever", not realizing that popularity within their own bubble did not equal popularity among the general masses.
@@LittleAl016 "It's underrated, it's popular around the masses" What? How can it be popular AND underrated? That doesn't make sense. Besides, when there's a change in art style, there's always discussion on which is better, and Sun and Moon evoque big BW vibes with the less serious Ash, which made people afraid that he had regressed AGAIN, which was not the case.
I remember that one episode when tierno’s raichu simps for slurpuff like tierno simps for Serena. Also enough about the crushes man, to guys fell for Serena, two girls fell for ash, Clemont BASSICLY GOT A WIFE and Bonnie’s a menace
It would be perfect if it wasn't a slog to watch through in the first two years, if Ash's Badge Quest amounted to something, if Ash actually developed and wasn't treated like he was the second coming of Jesus, if Serena was allowed to be her own character, developed, allowed to be a competent trainer, and given a goal that allowed her to develop and stand out, wasn't retconned into Ash's backstory, and wasn't given a pointless crush that consumed most of her character, if Clemont and Bonnie started developing from the get-go instead of being treated like joke characters so early on, if the Team Rocket Trio actually did something that justified their continued presence on the show, if Alain didn't get derailed after joining the show, if all the side characters actually got development and that development mattered, and if the side plots we're given actually went somewhere. (Every side plot except "AmourShipping", however. That can burn in the ash tray.)
Not a big deal but in the title you would use “Journeys” without the apostrophe. My phone likes to put apostrophes in words that don’t need them all the time. Whoever does your thumbnails has great style I love it
My ranking (Journeys and Kanto not included*) Worst 6th- Unova: 5/10 It was just mid, cant give it a lower score purely because of nostalgia since this was the first series i watched. 5th- Johto: 6.1/10 It was fine, the league kind of saved it, I dont have too much to say about Johto, the first opening is my favorite in the whole series tho. 4th- Hoenn: 7.9/10 It was really refreshing seeing Ash with new pokémon and companions, and not only we had Ash battling in gyms/league, we had May with the pokémon contests, which were rlly fun, the battle frontier was the cherry at the top. Also, I like Max, sorry. 3rd- Kalos: 8.5/10 Loved Kalos, Ash was at his peak for sure, it actually looked like he aged for once, and his companions were really nice too, Serena's showcases were kinda meh, I wish she did contests instead (mostly cause I prefer battles), overall this series is great. 2nd- Alola: 9.2/10 I dont know how to explain, I just loved Alola's vibe, Ash taking a well deserved break from having to travel whole regions to battle different gyms, mixed with many companions that i personally really liked, a great pokémon team with two freaking legendaries, and he finally won a league, well, low requirement league due to it being new, but I dont mind that, Ash vs Kukui was the second best battle ever. Only downside for me was the artstyle, but it kind of matched Alola vibe so it aint even that bad. I just loved this journey and im sad that it ended. 1st- Sinnoh: 9.8/10 What can I say, this was just peak Pokémon, you could see Ash's growth from previous series (WHEN IT HAD DECENT CONTINUITY), he had a powerful rival that we all love to hate, great pokémon team, Dawn being Dawn (she deserved to win that festival, fuck Zoey), Ash vs Paul was a masterpiece that I will never forget. Only downside is obviously Tobias, dude had 2+ legendaries and we dont even get a backstory from him? At least Ash defeated 2 of them, my man deserved to win that league. I doubt we are gonna have something as good as Sinnoh. *Kanto and Journeys arent included cause: 1. Im currently watching Journeys, I might update this list eventually 2. When I decided to watch the whole series, I decided to skip Kanto since I had already seen it before, what I didnt remember is that I watched it like, 5+ years ago, so I dont have many memories to actually rank it fairly, might watch it after im done with Journeys I could talk a lot more about every single one of these, but no one rlly cares.
Did you actually want Goh to catch Mew by the end? The main reason why Ash becoming the world champ was so satisfying and monumental is because of how long it took and how difficult it was for him to accomplish it. If Goh managed to achieve his dream and capture Mew after only becoming a trainer about 1 year prior, it would’ve devalued the challenge of said dream immensely, make Mew seem like less of a big deal, and make everyone else who’s been trying for years to catch them look really incompetent.
How about the upgrade art style to give character eye colors and some Pokémon moves new effects, not to mention back at the time it has a big continuity from prevoius series.
I forgot to add about Pokemon black and white season 3. If you haven't checked the JP opening, they just fake it out as Ash's Charizard facing against Reshiram but it didn't happened in the episode, it happened just in the intro
Honestly I'd put Diamond and Pearl over XYZ.The ending was horrible. It was so disappointing to see Greninga lose to Alain's Charizard. Not to mention Ash releasing it due to a stupid sub-plot introduced by the writers.
I agree with your statement.. It's really disappointed to see greninja lose against alain But if we talk about the DP...literally a hacker is there 💀💀💀💀(real pokemon fans only understand)
Lowkey journeys should of been what those last 12 episodes were, ash using all his old pokemon and traveling with different companions of his, maybe they swap out every 15-20 episodes
The B&W anime, while overhated, is the soul reason Unova’s so underrated compared to other regions. Seriously, if that anime were even half as good as the games, we’d be seeing Unova pandering instead of Kanto pandering, *I’m serious*
@@aaronfield7899 in a battle where she was pushed to use mega evolution, we’re talking about the literal poster girl for “final boss” in Pokémon and Iris did well against her, that is a W no matter what way you look at it Plus, she was made to be way more likable of a character than in her own series, which was mainly what I was talking about
Glad he left, my cousin and I were Misty fans and we kept being told "everything changes deal with it." now we say the same thing. "Ash is gone and everything changes deal with it." Besides with Rae's death there's nothing to make great again.
Another point I have with the Black and White anime is that Ash feels like he regressed back to somehow being worse of a trainer than he was when he started his journey. It's crazy how the XYZ anime took what was easily one of the worst antagonists from the pokemon games and actually made him more interesting and enjoyable as a villain.
and it bother me allot as well because he was not like that in the sinnoh region, literally his last match before going to unova was against a darkrai and a latios, and then he proceeds to lose to a new trainer with a level 5 snivy and slowly descends to back to being an idiot, and losing the easiest matches.
Genuinely curious of what you think of pokemon horizons so far. As of now with it being on episode 64, it's definitely one of the most different feeling series yet.
A few thoughts: The Silver League of the Johto Journeys section was amazing, especially the Ash v Gary fight. Journeys was better than expected. I prefer this method for picking the best trainers over the overused gym system, even if it was lifted straight from Metabots. Still, don't know why those final fights weren't full 6v6's.
I really liked journeys ,that being said I can't really say the same about the masters 8 I just wished they changed the match ups like Alain vs Steven Paul being in it etc, also I really do think the kalos league is overrated they skipped waaaay to many battles that had a lot of potential but we did get 2 of the best fights in the entire series
Honestly did not expect Journeys to be so high lol, personally I’d put it just above Best Wishes just because it had better animation, but almost as botched of a story. I’d also swap Advanced and Johto, though admittedly I haven’t watched either in a long time. I do agree with the rest though! SM was underrated for what it is, and honestly I think the only reason it’s so disliked was because of the tonal shift from XYZ. DP was incredible, with Paul and Dawn being highlights for me. And XYZ has to be my favorite Pokémon series of all time; the animation and story are incredible, the characters are well developed and engaging, and it really felt like the end of an era. Loved it.
“They didn’t catch Mew” …no shit? Leon gets sweeped by Mew, he’s a MEWTWO tier Pokemon. Every single Champion could jump Mew and they’d probably lose, NOBODY can catch Mew.
My boy I watched a lot of these and xyz didn’t make top 6 so I am so happy you gave it first thanks bro your a real one comment down if you wanted greninja to join ash team for the last round of the champion battle to show how much greninja had so much growth to losing the last champion match to win the best the champion match
If you were one of those who watched the prior series, you would know that Ash in BW seems to do so many mistakes that by now should not happen. Not trying to say you should know those things, but for those who watched it before, it was like suffered a total reset in capabilities as a trainer.
@@insecure8926 Except those mistakes he's made in BW are the same he's been making in AG and DP. They aren't anything new. He's had the same problems as a character in BW that he's had ever since Johto ended. All BW did was be honest about it because they couldn't get rid of him even though they wanted BW to be a reboot. The main reason why Iris is so hated is because she's essentially acting on the showrunners' behalf, and trying to point out the problems longtime viewers have had with Ash's character for years. And not like it mattered, anyways. Since Ash's so-called capabilities as a trainer weren't ever expected to achieve any payoff during BW, XY, or SM. Had Tomiyasu not stood up to Yuyama during SM's run, Ash would have lost during the Alola League, and started all over again in Galar, and the cycle would have kept repeating itself. Because there wasn't such an expectation, BW was only being completely honest about how absurd it is for a character like Ash to go on for so long and not win a championship title for 3 regions straight, and what a tired-out artifact of a protagonist he is as a result.
@@LittleAl016 Nah, BW mistakes were worst. Like, use a move that he knows it doesn't work just because he forgot? Seriously... You can have your opinion of not liking Ash's trajectory, but that's it, opinion. Was it overdone? Probably, more than 20 season after all. But even then, Ash was growing over the regions, at least if you skip BW. XY was literally made to circumvent the "He's 10" quote, as he's supposed to act older, more skilled and knowledgeable, which he is. He can't face off against the champion of the region and even gave Alain, a Champion level rival, a run for his money. Even if you don't agree that his personality wasn't development, his skill as a trainer was. He lost badly in OG, got better ones in Johto and Hoenn, had to face Tobias to lose in Sinnoh and faced a Champion level rival, one that would eventually reach the Masters 8, in Kalos. He was getting better as a trainer for sure.
Saying the Genesect movie is the best part of the BW series is a very hot take. BW did have the mini tournament arcs with the Battle Clubs to help break up the pacing between gym battles, which allowed Ash’s friends and their rivals to be showcased in battle and you had a variety in who fought who and who won each tournament.
@@LittleAl016 Hence the very hot take bit. It’s reviled by fandom, for the weak motivation and characterisation of the Genesect group (there’s the aggressive leader who suddenly has a change of heart in the climax and the one who wants to go home, the others just exist) and the Mewtwo isn’t the one from the first movie (although this is more due to rights around that particular Mewtwo).
The XYZ team doesn't work at all without Bonnie. She's the glue and without her it'd be super awkward which isn't good. Also the XY team is definitely the worst in terms of personality IMO. They all have the personality of a brick.
aside from pikachu and greninja, the only other pokemon that somewhat of arc was goodra and he released it halfway throught the anime. It also doesnt help that half of his team was just flying types. If i could fix it up i would have given him: PIKACHU: LOYAL COMPANION GRENINJA: THE STARTER HE ALWAYS GETS TALONFLAME: KEEP HIM AND HAVE HIM FIGHT MOLTRES LIKE HE DID BEFORE GOGOAT: GUYS BASICALLY A TANK AND HEALER AND HARD HITTER AEGISLASH: COULD HAVE BEEN A WHOLE THING WHERE HE FINDS TUTOLAGE AND TRAINING WITH WIKSTROM AND HE GIVES HIM A HONEDGE OR THE STONE TO EVOLVE IT TO AEGISLASH, MAYBE ASH HAS A TRAINING ARC BEFORE THE LEAGUE. GOODRA / NOIVERN - SAME STORY, BUT EITHER KEEP IT ON THE TEAM AND THE FINAL FEW EPISODES HE DECIDES TO LET GOODRA GO BACK AS A PROTECTOR OR GIVE NOIVERN A BETTER ARC BECAUSE LITERALLY IT ONLY HAD 4 FIGHTS BEFORE THE SHOW ENDED.
Xy anime is actually when I fell out of the franchise. I knew there was something off about the show, but it wasn't until entering the second season of it, but before then I felt like a zombie watching the show. When it came to the episode talking about how the blonde nerd met his hideous bunny and when he protected it by jumping in the way of a Pokémon's attack, that's when I realized "this is absolutely stupid". Every other episode there's a character that jumps into a Pokémon attack to protect another and I'm thinking "how are they not dead yet?" And another thing I hated is how the animation is all in your face, choppy as hell and way too fast to appreciate anything about it. I don't know how anyone can enjoy the show, unless this was their first introduction to Pokémon anime and not know why the older shows are far more appreciated. And before some ignorant fool calls me a "gen oner", I didn't get into Pokémon until gen 3 and watched the Advanced series. Gen 1 to 4 were the best aspect of Pokémon, and staying consistent with the characters they write. Black and White shamefully pressed the reset button on Ash's character, xy tried to make up for it but sadly made Ash too perfect with allegedly zero flaws (despite the fact that he seems to enjoy pain), I couldn't get passed the first episode to sun/moon because it felt like it was made for people with adhd, and I'm not gonna bother with journeys, just an excuse to make a Pokémon Go anime. They should've just properly reboot the anime like they did with the video games back to when Black and White was released.
Ash’s most faithful companions were Team Rocket. They been with Ash all the way from the beginning. Even tho Ash hates them and thinks they’re annoying. Lol 😆

@@ethansolorzano5989 She was free to start that at any time. But the fact that she only did so once she saw Ash on TV doesn't say good things about her.

The only reason why she was even practicing Rhyhorn Racing was because Serena herself was too spiritless to even consider trying to find something for herself to do because she would always get intimidated by the difficulty she experienced, no matter how minor. Sun & Moon is an underrated gem.
I wouldn't say underrated since theirs a large group of ppl that love sun and moon but it's definitely really good
It's up there with OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes.
@@LittleAl016 SM had lower ratings than XY in Japan and it was hated by the target audience in the West as well
I remember that one episode when tierno’s raichu simps for slurpuff like tierno simps for Serena. Also enough about the crushes man, to guys fell for Serena, two girls fell for ash, Clemont BASSICLY GOT A WIFE and Bonnie’s a menace
XYZ would be perfect if Ash won against Alain in the Kalos League finals, so is not 10 out of 10 but 9.5 out of 10
It would be perfect if it wasn't a slog to watch through in the first two years, if Ash's Badge Quest amounted to something, if Ash actually developed and wasn't treated like he was the second coming of Jesus, if Serena was allowed to be her own character, developed, allowed to be a competent trainer, and given a goal that allowed her to develop and stand out, wasn't retconned into Ash's backstory, and wasn't given a pointless crush that consumed most of her character, if Clemont and Bonnie started developing from the get-go instead of being treated like joke characters so early on, if the Team Rocket Trio actually did something that justified their continued presence on the show, if Alain didn't get derailed after joining the show, if all the side characters actually got development and that development mattered, and if the side plots we're given actually went somewhere. (Every side plot except "AmourShipping", however. That can burn in the ash tray.)

My ranking
(Journeys and Kanto not included*)
Worst
6th- Unova: 5/10
It was just mid, cant give it a lower score purely because of nostalgia since this was the first series i watched.
5th- Johto: 6.1/10
It was fine, the league kind of saved it, I dont have too much to say about Johto, the first opening is my favorite in the whole series tho.
4th- Hoenn: 7.9/10
It was really refreshing seeing Ash with new pokémon and companions, and not only we had Ash battling in gyms/league, we had May with the pokémon contests, which were rlly fun, the battle frontier was the cherry at the top. Also, I like Max, sorry.
3rd- Kalos: 8.5/10
Loved Kalos, Ash was at his peak for sure, it actually looked like he aged for once, and his companions were really nice too, Serena's showcases were kinda meh, I wish she did contests instead (mostly cause I prefer battles), overall this series is great.
2nd- Alola: 9.2/10
I dont know how to explain, I just loved Alola's vibe, Ash taking a well deserved break from having to travel whole regions to battle different gyms, mixed with many companions that i personally really liked, a great pokémon team with two freaking legendaries, and he finally won a league, well, low requirement league due to it being new, but I dont mind that, Ash vs Kukui was the second best battle ever. Only downside for me was the artstyle, but it kind of matched Alola vibe so it aint even that bad. I just loved this journey and im sad that it ended.
1st- Sinnoh: 9.8/10
What can I say, this was just peak Pokémon, you could see Ash's growth from previous series (WHEN IT HAD DECENT CONTINUITY), he had a powerful rival that we all love to hate, great pokémon team, Dawn being Dawn (she deserved to win that festival, fuck Zoey), Ash vs Paul was a masterpiece that I will never forget. Only downside is obviously Tobias, dude had 2+ legendaries and we dont even get a backstory from him? At least Ash defeated 2 of them, my man deserved to win that league. I doubt we are gonna have something as good as Sinnoh.
*Kanto and Journeys arent included cause:
1. Im currently watching Journeys, I might update this list eventually
2. When I decided to watch the whole series, I decided to skip Kanto since I had already seen it before, what I didnt remember is that I watched it like, 5+ years ago, so I dont have many memories to actually rank it fairly, might watch it after im done with Journeys
I could talk a lot more about every single one of these, but no one rlly cares.
The best part of Unova was the return of Charizard to the team and Krookidile being him
How about the upgrade art style to give character eye colors and some Pokémon moves new effects, not to mention back at the time it has a big continuity from prevoius series.
Being the person who likes both versions of Gen 5, kiss my Oshawott's scalchop!
The XY(Z) series, the Diamond and Pearl series, and the Sun & Moon series are still my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd favorites respectively.

The B&W anime, while overhated, is the soul reason Unova’s so underrated compared to other regions. Seriously, if that anime were even half as good as the games, we’d be seeing Unova pandering instead of Kanto pandering, *I’m serious*

Johto over Hoenn is a crazy take, I feel like there was way too much filler there
Another point I have with the Black and White anime is that Ash feels like he regressed back to somehow being worse of a trainer than he was when he started his journey.
Why is it that your problem with that BW anime is that Ash "regressed", and not that he was still on the damn show at the time?
@@LittleAl016 Because they could keep him in the show WITHOUT regressing it?
Genuinely curious of what you think of pokemon horizons so far. As of now with it being on episode 64, it's definitely one of the most different feeling series yet.

Haha thanks friend
A few thoughts:
The Silver League of the Johto Journeys section was amazing, especially the Ash v Gary fight.
Loved it.

Why did you hate the black and white anime it was so good it was so good it was the anime I grew up with
Hshdhsisusd
Because he projects himself onto Ash. That's why.

@@jbcatz5 And it's the wrong take.
If i could fix it up i would have given him:
PIKACHU: LOYAL COMPANION
GRENINJA: THE STARTER HE ALWAYS GETS
TALONFLAME: KEEP HIM AND HAVE HIM FIGHT MOLTRES LIKE HE DID BEFORE
GOGOAT: GUYS BASICALLY A TANK AND HEALER AND HARD HITTER
AEGISLASH: COULD HAVE BEEN A WHOLE THING WHERE HE FINDS TUTOLAGE AND TRAINING WITH WIKSTROM AND HE GIVES HIM A HONEDGE OR THE STONE TO EVOLVE IT TO AEGISLASH, MAYBE ASH HAS A TRAINING ARC BEFORE THE LEAGUE.
The XY team doesn't work, period.
