@@ArthionMustard's personality is honestly a little terrifying. Like, he knows he can mess most folks up and leaves it to you to pick up on that vibe. 😂
Obviously what happens in the manga doesn't 100% correlate to what happens in the other mediums, but I personally like to believe that in the games and anime, Wallace did the same thing he did in the manga. In the manga, he beat Steven, but chose to become a gym leader instead despite being the rightful champion, and instead takes over when Steven is incapacitated.
Yeah I think Alder is pretty underrated, he kinda gets sidelined with N being the de-facto champion battle but Alder lives up pretty well to what the ideal champion should be like. He's approachable and just generally seems to want to help people with his life advice. Although he probably enjoyed his life more after he stepped down in BW2 since he seemed more keen to just travel and meet people than manage the Pokemon League.
5:08 the manga explains that Wallace SHOULD be champion but he didn’t like responsibility and wanted to get with Winona, so Steven’s the placeholder in that universe
What i would do is: I get it, she is suppossed to look like a glimmora, so she sends glimmora first, them terastalizes and then says some thing along the lines of “huh, i Wonder why no one uses their ace pokemon first”
Lillie as a Champion would be so much great. I did not like her entire development in SM/USUM because I felt that I was losing something, which was Lillie coming back to challenge us in a rematch on the Elite 4. Like, she get a huge improvement and she even help us in the Battle Tree, however, she taking the Island Challenge in the post game just to battle us for the Champion Title would be awesome to see!
The BIGGEST Pokémon discovery ever... That Red's Jacket is a VEST!!😱😱😱 Jokes aside, Great Tier List! Honesty agreed with most of the statements and jokes you said about each character! You made some really great points and it was super funny!!! And Yeah Leon, I swept him with One Cinccino! Keep it up!! 1k MORE TILL 100K Rogue!!! 🎉💗😊
I agree with almost everything except for Leon. I don’t think he acts entitled, and he does his job as champion well. A lot of people called out Diantha for not doing much when there was a huge threat and letting children solve the problem, but Leon stops the threat because he doesn’t want children or anyone to have to worry about such a thing, be happy and keep being the strong champion people wants him to be. Also it’s sort of implied that he’s nerfed when you battle him because after losing to Eternatus technically (his Pokémon weren’t defeated, he himself was knocked out) his pride is kind of hurt and not being able to help everyone from the threat put him in a slight depression sort of like Hop, but to a lesser extent.
I feel like having Geeta be evil would be a copout, but she clearly knows more than she's letting on. I've seen another theory that she's an AI, bur she would have to be way more advanced than the one in Zero Lab because she can leave Area Zero (something that one couldn't do) and she has a breathing animation. But she seems to apply strategy as if she's only vaguely familiar with the concept, her personal interactions are halted and strange, and her line in the tournament about her perfect world *really* got me wondering whats happening here. Also the reason she's still champion is because the league works different in Paldea. She's the primary champion and is basically a government official. Nemona almost certainly will take that role someday, but for now she's still in school.
Also people have looked into her more and it makes sense she isn't hard as she's not the final boss, hell she's not even the final boss of the Victory Road storyline, her use as a Champion is different to the rest and in a way unfair to judge her the same way against her final boss Champion counterparts because she's effectively just an extra Elite 4 member. Her team is sent out with Glimorra last is more to symbolise the different biomes of Paldea and then Area Zero, birthplace of the Terastal phenomenon. I just hope we get a rematch area in Indigo Disk and when we go into Area Zero again to find Terapagos just to find her guarding the way to it with a new, revamped and MUCH harder team pulling from the DLCs as well for powerful mons (any maybe a shiny flex as that would be cool to see)
Except I would put Nemone in S-Tier i can agree. The thing is I haven't any trouble beating her, but I like her character that much. Gen 9 has the best characters anyway, and their interaction in Area Zero ist just comedy gold. Especially since Arven is constantly ignored.
I actually find Alder to be a really underrated champion. He may not be the strongest, but he embodies the true spirit of what a champion should be. He helps future generations of trainers to find their best path in life, including your rival Cheren. Plus, the stuff about his partner Pokémon passing on made me feel sorry for him. In my opinion, he should be higher on this list.
Leon was a pushover first time I battled him (mostly because of No Retreat Falinks and Dynamax being a abusable) but on replays, I found him more challenging
I see what you mean with Nemona and her outfit, especially when the other two friend characters, Arven and Penny, both get to have unique designs. At the same time, Nemona ROCKS the school uniform, so it doesn't matter to me.
Fun fact: its never stated why Red left, or that Lance merely stepped into an empty slot. My head canon is that Lance actually doubled down on his training and pulled out an actual win on Red: giving Red some actual motivation to head to Mt Silver and start training to get as strong as we see him in Gold/Silver. The reason I think this is because not only did Blue not reclaim the title once Red was gone, but his levels actually cap out lower than Lance's in the rematches; implying that Lance become the stronger trainer of the two at least by that point. What's even stranger is that in the pre league battle monologue he calls himself "the most powerful trainer and Champion of the Region", meanwhile when you face him in the PWT he gives the exact same speil minus calling himself the most powerful (remember this is before other leagues were introduced, Indigo was the only game I town as we knew it). His character has always been rather humble: teaching that people should respect their mons, and not even calling himself Champion when helping you outside the league. Then when they're actually battling to decide who is the most powerful in the PWT, he doesn't claim to already be the most powerful. For him to make such a statement it might be because he actually defeated the previous Champion before Red went on his training arc. It doesn't seem like something he'd say if he knew there was another trainer in the region stronger than him. It always struck me as weird that Red would willingly leave the league if he wanted to get stronger (since he's usually characterized as a battle first type of character): the strongest trainers are literally coming to your doorstep to challenge you, that sounds like a great opportunity to grow stronger! And it doesn't seem to be much of an exploration thing, seeing as he technically doesn't even leave the Kanto region, Mt Silver being the border marker of the two places.
Fun fact: In USUM, the player is technically the champion before Hau and is challenged by hime for the title, whats cooler is that the champion title defence theme against any trainer after is technically the players theme which is just kinda cool to know i guess😅
I've always liked that about the SM/USUM champion theme in that it specifically is YOUR theme, plus in the originals Kukui is basically just testing your mettle for fun and as a formality as the founder of the league to make sure you're up to snuff although he would of course more than know that since he handpicked the Elite Four.
Any one who says Geeta is the best Champion is just plain wrong. Not even a matter of opinion, it is literally stated in-game that Nemona beat her without going all out.
Nemona is yandere Goku, and no one will ever convince me otherwise. Seeing this Champion in a dark alleyway strikes fear into the hearts of mortals. Cynthia needs no explanation. Just hearing her piano piece before her battle sends shivers down my spine.
Cynthia is the best champion in the series. She can’t be stopped. In her original game’s context, her battle is amazing. She shows herself as head and shoulders above everyone. She’s the best battle in Black and White. Oh, you thought expshare, the fairy type, and three free mythical Pokémon from the start of the game would make a difference? BDSP Cynthia laughs in held items, better AI, and crazy strategies. “What about Volo?” I hear you say. Who? You mean that cheating hack that required seven Pokémon with one having a two phases? Exactly. Look at what others have to do to even come close to Cynthia. In the game universe, she’s simply the best. She doesn’t lose. She merely allows you to win if she thinks you’re good enough so she can take a break in Unova.
Honestly Iris is one of my favorite champions. Not only was it amazing to see the development to her being a champion better than Wallaces, her interaction when you first battle her felt appropriate for the champion battle and ending of the DS era. Plus, her team wasn't omega trash
Steven will always be my favorite. I mean come on he is literally one of the richest and down to earth people in Pokemon and he just enjoys his time collecting stones!
It's odd to me because there's already a real person who's referred to as the "champion of France" they could have modeled her design after but no. Imagine a champion based on Jeanne d'Arc! Heck, they just could have had Diantha dress as her for the championship battle, what with being an actress and all.
I think this is what most people misunderstand about Geeta. Probably because they didn't bother to read the game practically bombarding you with the information that there are a multitude of champions in Paldea. The whole purpose of the league is a test for you to get your "champion licence" rather than you fighting for the title of "strongest trainer". Geeta isn't even top champ because she is the strongest. She herself says that Nemona is probably stronger than her. Her whole elite 4 test is a fucking job interview, not a tournament. And her Indigo Disk team makes it likely that she doesn't fight you full force in the champion assessment and why would she? Like your drive teacher doesn't challenge you to a street race for you to get your driving license. People project their understanding of what a Champion is onto Geeta and than judge her by that measure. It may be the games fault for not making it obvious enough that she is neither the endboss, nor the strongest trainer in the region. Not even the most difficult fight of the storyline she is in.
I am a Geeta stan. Her goal is not to keep her title, but to bar weaker trainers from obtaining the title of "Champion", being the TOP Champion. And in her rematch team in the Indigo Disk DLC, she leads with Glimmora, and her ace is tera flying Kingambit. For me this puts her in A tier. And also, Nemona is S. I will die on that hill.
Cynthia is still the best and not counting Volo even if he is harder since Volo isnt a champion(and Volo doesnt fight fair anyways. Its basically 6v8 since after beating his team of 6, Giratina with two forms swoops in), Cynthia is still the strongest. As of BDSP, Cynthia surpassed Red's team with her level 88 Garchomp and higher leveled team in her 2nd rematch in BDSP.
In the Pokemon manga, Wallace won the championship fair and square, but declined becoming champion because 1) his master Juan was retiring and he wanted to take over his gym, and 2) he wanted to be closer to Winona (aww^^) Then during Groudon and Kyogre crisis Steven asked him to take over as champion, but later on during Emerald saga Wallace stepped down again
I agree, Nemona isn’t a yandere. I do, however, believe Nemona is autistic- I see a lot of similarities between her and myself! Narrowed obsessive interests, misreading situations occasionally, and lackluster social skills, but still trying their very best to make friends. I can also see the clinginess towards actual friends in her, too. Nemona is not a yandere, she is most likely autistic.
Because this video came out before the Indigo Disk DLC, he couldn't have possibly rated Kieran, so I will His buildup is insane, especially since you get to be part of it. He starts off looking up to you, but slowly becomes more and more obsessed with beating you and catching strong Pokemon like Ogerpon and Terapagos as he witnesses them choose you over him. In Blueberry Academy, you first see him again as a completely different person, hair up, obsessed with being strong. His obsession with being stronger than you makes him seem deranged or even posessed, which you as the player were a root cause of. His battle theme is intense, but hit or miss for me. He is also the only champion to have his champion match as a double and the only champion to own a Legendary Pokemon, even if it was only briefly. As a champion, he always struck me the same as Red, but instead of cool and collected, he was so obsessed with winning that he went so far as to make a VGC team and fight in doubles. The only other champion to have VGC-perfect Pokemon is Cynthia in BDSP, and we all know how her battles go. Because of Kieran's transformation from a fun-loving, yet nervous and shy little kid into a clinically insane winning-obsessed demon and back, all through your help, he gets the bottom of S-Tier. And if you say something about how long this comment is, you're the one who clicked "Read More."
I've got a counter argument against Lance being a cheater that could be in a potential 3rd headcanons video. You see in the Gen 2 games there is a guy outside of Mahogany Town selling RageCandyBars, which have the effect of leveling down your Pokemon. You know who else was in Mahogany Town during that time? Lance. So it is possible that he bought RageCandyBars from that guy (He's the Champion. He could most definitely afford it.) to level down his Dragonites to give the trainers that face him a fairer fight.
I'd put Leon and Diantha a tier higher 1. I actually had trouble with Leon cause I didn't overlevel my team; his Charizard's Solar Beam (GMax) fucked my Inteleon out of nowhere first try 2. Personal opinion because of her design
Geeta not giving up the champion title is because they retconned it to being champion ranks. So you, Nemona, the gym leaders and Geeta are all champion ranked while Geeta also serves as the commissioner.
She's also the League Chairwoman so of course being the person in charge of running the Pokemon League it makes sense that unless she steps down her job entirely she'd continue to test challengers. That said I found her entirely uninteresting as a character and her team is..
I don't agree with Diantha only because I had the worst team. I had mostly fairy types because it quickly became my favorite type. Plus I loved the arena and her mega gardevoir. Her aesthetics suck though. I think b tier but that's just me. Also I love Nemona. If she had just a bit more depth she could be S tier.
I've play sword and shield a combind total of around 6 times, and the only time ive had issues with leon is when i purposly tried to stay under leveled "only fighting necessary TRAINERS" and didnt use eternus
The main differences between out rankings is that I put mustard higher and Lance lower, considering that Gen 2 is just so weak and that reflects onto alder and I like mustard's character and story alot. You are right about the eyebrows though what drugs is he cooking
I put Nemona on S+++ tier, she's just sooo amazing and... well... she's basically Ash but without the annoying little kid who knows nothing. IN GEN 5 ANIME ASH HAD TO LOOK UP WHAT A KOFFIN WAS ALTHOUGH TEAM ROCKET HAD FOUGHT HIM USING A KOFFIN MULTIPLE TIMES
5:55 to be honest Cynthia probably wouldn’t have become so iconic if not for her notoriously difficult to beat team. It’s because she was so difficult to defeat that she became iconic.
unpopular opinion time but I kinda prefer wallace as a champion over steven, mainly because steven isn't that much of a challenge for me (like when I did an alpha sapphire nuzlocke the only reason my Mightyena and Dusclops died was because I forgot that his mega Metagross had bullet punch) while Wallace is consistently challenging whenever I face him even while using both Metagross and Salamence also I actually had a lot of trouble with leon in my first playthrough (mainly because I didn't know where to get the ice punch TM so my weavile only had ice shard leading to his haxorus decimating half my teems) heck he's the only champion in the modern games to actually beat me in my first attempt
Yeah, he could go either way. He's TECHNICALLY in that role, but there's no organized league for him to be champion of. And he would just abuse his power anyway.
9:21 Because that's what you're SUPPOSED TO DO! Also, try battling him without the broken Gen 8 Pokemon, he only is easy because of the power creep! Someone else compared his team to the other champion teams, and said it could match Platinum Cynthia, and beat most of the others!
So fun little fact about Mustard: he was apparently Champion for 18 years, making him the longest running Champion canonically
Yet his wife is significantly stronger lol

Cynthia's piano is the best champion ngl
The Piano should get a Grammy
It's a family heirloom
My friend in paldea the champion title is a rank that multiple people can become, its something everyone aspires to be
I DONT KNOW WHY N APPEARS FOR 1 SECOND AT THE START OF THE VIDEO BUT I LOVE IT
the line on Red’s hat is a gauge needle…it’s showing that he’s at full power, fully fueled, revved to the max etc.
Diantha is a legend! Her design is beautiful she is great
dissing iris's champion theme is like willingly getting yourself cursed by GOD
I am a Geeta stan. Her goal is not to keep her title, but to bar weaker trainers from obtaining the title of "Champion", being the TOP Champion. And in her rematch team in the Indigo Disk DLC, she leads with Glimmora, and her ace is tera flying Kingambit. For me this puts her in A tier.
And also, Nemona is S. I will die on that hill.
Fun fact: Did you know that the voice actor of Red in Pokémon origins, voiced Silver in team sonic racing, and Makoto Naegi?
Cynthia is still the best and not counting Volo even if he is harder since Volo isnt a champion(and Volo doesnt fight fair anyways. Its basically 6v8 since after beating his team of 6, Giratina with two forms swoops in), Cynthia is still the strongest. As of BDSP, Cynthia surpassed Red's team with her level 88 Garchomp and higher leveled team in her 2nd rematch in BDSP.
5:34 This is my favorite champion!
I love Nemona, she is so cool
holy shit I can't unsee leon as shadow kamoshida I'm laughing so hard right now LMAO
HEY Guys did you know that Leon is the champion
Victor did before pokemon journeys is a thing (unless if you talking about the anime specific, but if you are incluing games... so victor did first)
True
Bemoan is a friendly rival done right the first one since May/Brendan imo
i am within 50 views.
anyways
You're gonna do it.
100k soon :>
Ah yes the fair specialist diantha all the iconic fairies on her team such as Gardevoir, Gardevoir, Gardevoir, Gardevoir, Gardevoir and Gardevoir
Another fun fact about Steven: His hair is based on Blue's sprite from the original games
Because this video came out before the Indigo Disk DLC, he couldn't have possibly rated Kieran, so I will
His buildup is insane, especially since you get to be part of it.
To my understanding Wallace was champion before Steven was and Steven beat him then went around to travel and they reinstated the previous champion.
ROGUE RENEGADE FOR LIFEEE
YESSSSS FLUDDY!!!👍🔥😆
I've got a counter argument against Lance being a cheater that could be in a potential 3rd headcanons video. You see in the Gen 2 games there is a guy outside of Mahogany Town selling RageCandyBars, which have the effect of leveling down your Pokemon. You know who else was in Mahogany Town during that time? Lance. So it is possible that he bought RageCandyBars from that guy (He's the Champion. He could most definitely afford it.) to level down his Dragonites to give the trainers that face him a fairer fight.
Ahh yes Lance the bird tamer
Hot Take: the player is the best champion
Lance is Basically Roman Reigns who likes he's the Rock, while Red is the TRUE Final Boss.
this is so real
Holy shit someone who actually likes nemonea and that I can relate too
i too have a watch that lets me know that its bhilip time
also i respect you for putting the two characters i am deeply in love with in S tier
He said Leon looks like he got dressed in the dark 😂
I'd put Leon and Diantha a tier higher
1. I actually had trouble with Leon cause I didn't overlevel my team; his Charizard's Solar Beam (GMax) fucked my Inteleon out of nowhere first try
2. Personal opinion because of her design
Nah they suck
Geeta not giving up the champion title is because they retconned it to being champion ranks. So you, Nemona, the gym leaders and Geeta are all champion ranked while Geeta also serves as the commissioner.
She's also the League Chairwoman so of course being the person in charge of running the Pokemon League it makes sense that unless she steps down her job entirely she'd continue to test challengers. That said I found her entirely uninteresting as a character and her team is..
@@Arthion …much better after the release of indigo disc
@@d4c_reznor470 I mean her team is, but her personality is as.. wooden as ever.
5 gen champions are so underrated
True
Everyone: "Leon is so easy!!"
Me, losing to Leon 17 times and never finishing pokemon sword: "I'm sorry, this man is supposed to be EASY!?-"
So uh, where would kieran be on the ranking?
I don't agree with Diantha only because I had the worst team. I had mostly fairy types because it quickly became my favorite type. Plus I loved the arena and her mega gardevoir. Her aesthetics suck though. I think b tier but that's just me. Also I love Nemona. If she had just a bit more depth she could be S tier.
I've play sword and shield a combind total of around 6 times, and the only time ive had issues with leon is when i purposly tried to stay under leveled "only fighting necessary TRAINERS" and didnt use eternus
Cynthia should have ascended beyond s
11:09: Actually, it’s Toxic Spikes, from Glimmora’s Toxic Debris, “Patrick Star”! 🤨
So leon is bad for being one of the few champions to do his job. lol.
Ah Pokémon champion
The main differences between out rankings is that I put mustard higher and Lance lower, considering that Gen 2 is just so weak and that reflects onto alder and I like mustard's character and story alot. You are right about the eyebrows though what drugs is he cooking
Congrats on 100K! me and tubby hope for 1M
Geeta be looking like a despicable me villain
My favorite champion would be nemona, but I think of her as more of a friend, a best friend. So my favorite Is either steven or iris
DON'T BE DISSING WALLACE LIKE THAT
unpopular opinion time but
I kinda prefer wallace as a champion over steven, mainly because steven isn't that much of a challenge for me (like when I did an alpha sapphire nuzlocke the only reason my Mightyena and Dusclops died was because I forgot that his mega Metagross had bullet punch) while Wallace is consistently challenging whenever I face him even while using both Metagross and Salamence
also I actually had a lot of trouble with leon in my first playthrough (mainly because I didn't know where to get the ice punch TM so my weavile only had ice shard leading to his haxorus decimating half my teems) heck he's the only champion in the modern games to actually beat me in my first attempt
Geeta is built like Rip Von Winkle from Hellsing Ultimate
But where’s volo?
Yeah, he could go either way. He's TECHNICALLY in that role, but there's no organized league for him to be champion of. And he would just abuse his power anyway.
Geeta is literally nobodies favourite Champion. Even the Paldean Gym Leader's shit talk her and openly dislike how she runs the Paldean Pokèmon League
There wasnt enough Leon slander in this video
9:21
Because that's what you're SUPPOSED TO DO!
Also, try battling him without the broken Gen 8 Pokemon, he only is easy because of the power creep! Someone else compared his team to the other champion teams, and said it could match Platinum Cynthia, and beat most of the others!
