Upgrading The CPU On A Laptop - Intel Celeron to Core i3/i5/i7 - Stone Computers NT310-H, i5-4210M

- In this video I guide you through the process of upgrading the CPU / processor on a Stone branded laptop. Clevo and Stone laptops are basically the same - so these steps should apply to both brands. The process should be similar for the other laptops they make as well.
The laptop shown in this video is a Stone NT310-H with the model number W550SU1.
I am upgrading the processor of this laptop in order to deliver better performance and make the machine faster in general.
The original processor that came factory fitted in this laptop was an Intel Celeron 2950M at 2.0Ghz. This model machine uses a chipset supporting Intel Haswell processors and could be upgraded to a Core i3, i5 or i7 4th Gen CPU as long as the TDP rating is the same.
I chose to install the Core i5 4210M at 2.6Ghz as this gives the best price to performance ratio at the time of recording.
I would recommend updating the BIOS to the latest version (if available) before attempting to change the CPU of any system.

I expect that these steps will be very similar for most models of Stone or Clevo branded laptop but you will have to find out what CPUs are supported by your motherboard model. The manufacturer can usually help advise on this or you can research what CPU options were available for your machine when new. This should allow you to make an educated choice on what will be compatible with your laptop.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- The laptop you are going to be upgrading the CPU of
- The new CPU you want to install in your laptop (i5-4210M in my case)
- A small Philips / Pozi / cross head screwdriver to remove the bottom cover & heatsink
- A Torx T8 screwdriver to operate the CPU socket retaining / lock mechanism
- New Thermal Compound / Paste for between the CPU and heatsink
- Some tissue or toilet paper to clean the heatsink and CPU
- Isopropyl alcohol to help clean the CPU and heatsink (optional)
- Preferably the latest BIOS update installed for your laptop (optional)
All laptops do vary and you probably won't be able to copy this video exactly unless you happen to have an identical laptop of the same model. It should aid as an overview of the basic process however for any laptop make and model.

That worked? I often wondered if I'd need a whole new board due to support chips? I guess if the OEM had various options, you could just upgrade the cpu later, way cool? I've got a nice machine buy w/Celeron, I'd like to go to at least i5, expected I'd need to swap moboard...

Hi! 😞 I Have a Toshiba Sattelite C50 -A -14G , and i upgrade the CPU from Celeron 1005 M to I5 3230M , same soket, BUT NOW my laptop shuting down after 30 Min fix , before install the new CPU i upgrade the bios after i put my new cpu.... I check the temperature and she is normal (40-45 grade ) . Can u help me with that , please! Thanks😞

If any body having Pentium processor or celeron processor or i3 2nd or 3rd generation processor in laptop you can upgrade it. check processor socket in laptop and see it molded or removable. If removable you can upgrade. Check using cpu z software you see it shows (Socket 988B rPGA)

no. In all laptops after 2013-14, all processors are soldered to the motherboard. Now you need to immediately buy a laptop with the right processor.

This is my next upgrade after I upgraded the RAM, Wireless Wi-Fi and SSD… I got an i3 but I’m thinking about i5 or i7.
For new laptops, if you are planning to upgrade make sure that the components are not soldered.
This upgrade are applicable to old models mostly.

@@edwinboas9614 Core i5-5300U, Core i7-5500U, Core i7-5600U (Socket BGA 1168) - buy any of these processors. Then take the laptop and new processor to a computer service with a soldering station to replace the processor.

Install the CPU-Z program on the laptop from the Internet. On the first tab of the program, look at the socket type (BGA 1023 or rPGA 988?). On the "Mainboard" tab, look at which chipset and southbridge. Please provide this information to me. How many gigabytes of RAM is in a laptop? Celeron В820?

@@zakaryaelasbihani6841 for games it is better to assemble a computer. Replacing the processor will not greatly improve the gaming performance of the laptop. I have an Asus k53sd laptop (i3-2350m + Nvidia 610m + RAM 4GB DDR3-1333 + HDD 500GB). Installed processor i7-2630qm + RAM 8gb+8gb DDR3-1600 + SSD 250GB, sata, 2.5 + HDD 500GB. Performance increased only in older games (before 2014). Therefore, I assembled a computer for games, and I take a laptop on trips (in a hotel to watch a movie or play old games :)
i7-2640m, i7-2630qm processor can be installed in Asus k43sd/k43sj/k53sd/k53sv/k53sm/k53sc laptops. Only when buying these laptops, check what type of socket is through the CPU-Z program (should be rPGA 988b)
