Accounting at a college level doesn't really have any special hardware requirements. At most, its just light excel work or online homework through a browser. Both windows and mac are used in professional settings, although I think public accounting favors windows. Excel is compatible with MacOS as well. I do not recommend using Bootcamp, I've used it in the past and found it pretty clunky and not optimized.
Given your budget, you could get a pretty powerful laptop that would be sufficient for gaming, and more than sufficient for your course load. The problem is that high end windows laptops tend to become obsolete relatively quickly. A mid-range laptop + external GPU might be more suitable for your needs, since it'll allow you upgrade your GPU later on. You may have better luck asking for laptop or tech advice elsewhere.
Best of luck in college, you'll look back at these years fondly. As Andy Bernand put it "I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them."
I have a 799$ gaming laptop and have upgraded the ram to 32gigs ...it had nvidia GeForce GTX 1650ti and intel core i5 9th gen, and can run most AAA titles above 75 fps...

Profit is what makes it affordable to begin with. You can't build anything similar without it becoming much more expensive. So they profit, and so do you, if you want a laptop. Even at the higher price you get it cheaper than if you'd ordered it from the manufacturer. Even worse, the investment in machines, R&D, design, coding etc to build it from _scratch_. Shows you just how cheap it is for you.
The whole clip is Linus just trying to shit on the Walmart laptop but can only find a couple frames...but then $800 and he's sweating

Eh, 4K on a laptop is just something for manufacturers to put on a spec sheet. At that screen size, the difference between 1080p and 4K is negligible unless you're shoving your face right into the screen. All 4K does on a laptop is drive up price and make battery life even worse.
I personally like 4k on a laptop not for quality but for more screen real estate for multitasking.

your CSGO results on the walmart laptop are probably due to the 2.2ghz cpu. source renderer basically waits on a single thread and an extra 200-600Mhz on those other laptops is a big fps gain. a 4.3Ghz 7700k will get 600 fps in that spot and it's almost purely due to the clock speed.
also I actually would really appreciate that numpad. I feel like "gaming" in this instance also refers to "power user" in general and the numpad is really handy. I'm sure I'm not alone in having a tonne of binds set up in just about every single game I play. in CSGO it's my buy binds, in WoW it's my raid marker binds and some other misc stuff, and I have OBS keybinds on it too. I thought about getting a numpad-less keyboard but I realised I really wouldn't want to do without it.
I love your vids, my guy
they are probably sitting clocked around 3.5ghz to 3.9ghz for the asus model when you add another stick of ram the walmart one goes up to 3.9 also . at 3.9 and having 6 cores and 12 threads it does pretty well. but if you believe csgo uses only one core set in task manager affinity to one or two cores and watch if your fps drops vs your 4 cores 8 threads
Is this a crossover episode?
@Kakol shut up, ma boi makes sick half life videos you know xddd

I actually used the num pad on my MSI laptop all the time! I use music notation/production software and a lot of helpful shortcuts can be used with it. I'm also a band director, so a computer with a num pad is super useful when I'm writing in grades. I don't ever use it for gaming, though.
I've got the new version of these, the Evoogaming LP5, and it's rad. As soon as you manually fix the battery life problems, which only takes an hour or two, it's a perfect gaming laptop for $800
I thought you were going to say that she said to never buy Walmart Electronics xD
BenyQuinonez
Most people just buy apple, HP, Lenovo, needing support!
gamer's?? not needing anything at all! Just replace it if it fails....hoping they can fix it....
tbh if its really only $800 can you go to far wrong? i mean most with them specs are like $1300 still right?
@bdrmongoose78 which might be worth it if you want to save yourself the hassle of upgrading ram.
LumpySpaceBrotha It’s running in single channel so you only need to buy one more 16 Gb stick and put it in. 200$ pre tax for that upgrade is pointless
@@Pudge_ You can if you don't care about the 2 year warranty
@@noventay4 I really doubt most people who actually want to upgrade the ram would.
@@noventay4 They can't actually legally void the warranty as per the FTC. It's an idle threat.

numpad is for nethack
also it's way easier to type with.
if you're buying a laptop for gaming, it's likely going to be your general use machine. it can basically handle anything you throw at it and thus is similar to an enterprise-type laptop in *replacing* a desktop.
if you have a main desktop for gaming, it's likely unless you're really wealthy you're not concerned about having a laptop for gaming; your laptop is going to be a utility machine, probably a 2 in 1 or a netbook-tier machine.
Sid Meier's Pirates!
correct on the statement about desktops and laptops... i bought and fixed up a used MSI ge72 for school, and I regret it lol. I'll keep it for occasional use but it's been replaced by a 2-in-1 chromebook for school usage- couldn't even make it through an hour and a half class on the MSI, chromebook lasts me through the whole week before I need to charge it. If I'm gonna game or use photoshop, it's gonna be on my desktop with my i7 3960x and an R9 390x.
Exactly, i want my laptop to be Dwarf Fortress/Nethack/CataclysmDDA capable.
General use and extra buttons for classic gaming. Or maybe I'm just used to binding to numpad, but still.
I agree, it's easier. Sorry Linus, you don't WANT a laptop without a numpad. I can see your point that the keyboard might be cramped, but it would be worse without the numpad.
This showed up in my recommendations, and the chassis is like almost exactly the same as the mag-15 I recently bought. Strange
mag-15 also uses a tongfang chassis, that's why
I have a 799$ gaming laptop and have upgraded the ram to 32gigs ...it had nvidia GeForce GTX 1060ti and intel core i5 9th gen, and can run most AAA titles above 75 fps...
6:54 I use the num. pad for extra macro keys. It gives you 16+ extra keys for it, but I understand that they can be kind of hard to reach.
What!?!?! For $800 a 1060 graphics 256gb SSD and 16gb ram. I just paid $750 for same processor but 1050ti 8gb ram and 128gb SSD fuuuuuuuuuuu
Don't forget 144hz
I hope you kept your receipt
its 1400 $ actually the 800 price was some other variant
@@frickzjee Isn't 800 the new price?

I feel like this laptop is the body and keyboard of the Gigabyte Aero 15x I'm currently using. The heavy keystroke thing is something in particular that rings true for mine as well and they keyboard layout look similar. I personally don't mind, though, as it gives a firm typing surface.

Put another stick of ram in and the frame rate issue is solved. Something about running single channel ram causes the frame rate to dip significantly. After that repaste and throttlestop and it’ll outperform the asus and you’ll have a gaming and productivity monster. You can also install a 4 cell battery if you’re willing to lose the 2.5 inch hard drive (still has two m.2 slots) to significantly improve battery life.
EDIT: Check out the 200+ page thread on notebookcheck and Bob of All Trades channel for great content on this chassis.
Give credit to Bob of All Trades for solving this issue.

Linus Tech Tips specifically doesn't try to fix stuff in any of thier reviews because that's not how the product would appear to somebody else who had just gotten the machine. The reviews are for the general audience, and the average person that doesn't have computer know how. The type of person that's going to be buying a computer from Walmart that's advertised as a gaming computer. What techy do you know would buy a gaming computer from Walmart ffs, unless they had plans for upgrading it or doing some major overhaul. If it's configured running single-channel, and that's hurts the frame rate, then the machine performs worse. Can you fix it? Yes, of course. Will your average person buying the computer be able to fix it? Hell no. So the computer should be reviewed as it came out of the box, terrible Ram performance, and all.
