- Somebody finally called out Bill Maher’s smug nonsense to his face. On an episode of his ‘Club Random Podcast’ Bill Maher tried to lie about student protesters, but his guest, comedian Bill Burr, wasn’t having it. Burr shut down Maher’s comments and put him in his place. In this video we’ll talk about this satisfying exchange and discuss horrifying new developments in Gaza.

My mom considers herself a liberal. I once tried to explain to her that Maher isn't left-leaning, and she argued that he aligns more with Democrats than Republicans. I then tried to explain that the Democratic party is not left-leaning, and she basically refused to listen to me after that.
America is a conservative right-wing country. No matter how much The Right scream about wokeism or the libs destroying the country, doesn't change the fact that America is still stuck in the early 1900s conservative mentality. I laugh everytime I see a conservative calling Democrats the "radical left" when the Dems are barely liberal. Propaganda doesn't care about facts.

I too have had to explain this to my parents and in particular the decline of Bill Maher. They used to watch his HBO show which I did as well back in high school and it helped make me more politically conscious but now they dont watch him anymore

I met a young women who had worked as a social worker in Gaza prior to this war. She told me it was common to see IDF soldier just randomly hit a Palestinian child’s head w the butt of their rifle, for absolutely no reason. The children she said were just walking w friends down a street. It’s terrible.

That was an interesting aspect of Maher's psychology on display.
People do that to "block" someone else from expressing an opinion they don't want to hear, or want other people to hear. While Maher was saying "no, no, no" he was doing so because he felt cornered and new Burr was right.
He said "No one wants to see kids dead" he was way too casual with his tone in the way he said it.

I've discussed the conflict in Gaza with friends and family, and none of them support Hamas. They are pro-Palestinian and they don't agree with Israel's incursions into Gaza and the resulting civilian casualties. I think people are also tired of world leaders expressing support for a two-state solution but taking no concrete steps to make it happen.
Blocking the UN from recognising Palestine as a state is the latest of many attempts to block a 2 state solution

Bill Maher has got to be one of the most tragic cases I've ever seen. He's gone from being one of the most rational, critically thinking minds I've ever seen to the proverbial broken clock that's only right twice a day.
He's either lost his mind or he's being blackmailed.
Or he was never actually that rational in the first place, but he happened to be in agreement with a lot of what you believed. I've increasingly come to believe that Maher just stumbled into his early good ideas by accident, like most of us, and happened to be good at justifying it with rational thought after the fact. Which led him to believe that *any* position he holds must be good and rational, which is how we got what he is now.

Bill Maher was once thought to be an iconoclast, a voice against the machine. Unfortunately, in the three decades since he was last relevant, he has _become_ a part of the machine. This is a comment from Europe: I know Americans don't care about Eurovision, but Israel was allowed to participate which made many artists from European countries angry and there were massive protests. The delegation from Israel reacted this way: everybody that even gave a hint of dissaproval were deemed anti-semites, their song was literally called 'october 7th' and when asked after 3 times they changed it, they bothered other contestants endlessly, filmed them without permission, mocked non-binary artists, bought endless advertisements for their song across the world (which isn't allowed), the singer from Ireland had drawn 'ceasefire' with make up and was asked to remove it, they harassed the singer from the Netherlands to the point he was disqualified (a lot of question marks there) and as cherry on top, they manipulated the sound in the arena to reflect cheers while in actually everybody was booing. Oh, and when it came down to the singer parading down the Israel flag, they played 'I don't care, I love it' (big Melania's jacket flashback).
So yeah, it was fun.
