There are few things more ironic than an anti-capitalist show about poverty exploitation being turned real then exploiting and injuring the people in it
The show hasn't injured anyone. The people directing the show are responsible for its pernicious effects. I get the feeling that you have a problem with the 2nd amendment as well and are easily triggered by the "manosphere".
@@DavidOnTheeYT You don't have to* be so combative, not "gotta". How was my comment combative? I just made simple observations. Don't talk about combat unless you've been in my shoes and had to battle your way back from behind enemy lines in an Afghan desert town after your black hawk went down.
The one part that really grinds my gears was in ep2 when 198 picked up the phone and won a treat (hamburger and fries), then everybody swooped in like turkey vultures and stole his food. Netflix never fails to find the most despicable people for their game shows.
You know. Sometimes, I feel like the higher ups in Netflix are just playing a game called “how many stupid decisions can we make before the company goes bankrupt”
And then when they start losing money, they lay people off to cut costs cuz surely it’s not poor executive decisions. Wouldn’t want to cut that paycheck
Tbf zombieverse was pretty successful and squid game was very successful so it’d make sense to make a reality game show based on squid game, this was the writers/showrunners fault for the obvious manipulation of what happens
The whole point of Squid game is showing how abhorrent and dangerous exploiting the working class for entertainment is… so they decided to dangerously exploit the working class for entertainment

Some of the contestants came out and stated that the entirety of red light and green light lasted 5-8 hours and the reason why the girl squatting couldn’t make it even though it was like “7 seconds” was because she was actually holding that pose for 30 minutes straight
Fun fact: Red light green light went on for multiple hours in real life. They had to wait 30-45mins between green lights. That’s because the camera crew had to film some shots. Also all the participants really slept in the bunkbeds and everyone had only one tracksuit for the entire duration of the show being filmed. They couldnt leave the building for entertainment or fresh air. They had to entertain themselves for hours and hours while no game was played. And then there‘s the issue that noone except the winner got paid
I don’t understand why studios always ruin movies/shows that end on a good note. The greed of wanting more money at the cost of the quality of films will always ruin a franchise.
The show wasn’t even that bad, Charlie’s just hating as per usual. I will admit, the first episode was the most corny one, but it gets better after they stop with the “forced script” thing when everyone acting like they came in vans and shit. Once you get to know the people in it, it actually becomes interesting and they stop acting like 1 dimensional characters.
This comment confuses me It's like it's talking about a second season of Squid Game (which is something that's going to happen) but it's under a video about a different thing What I'm saying is: Netflix didn't ruin the first season by making this show, there was gonna be a season 2 with or without this show
I also had to find out that this existed from my dad, but the difference is, my dad watched it thinking this was season two and didn't realize it was a reality show with real people, so he was like "The story and the acting got really bad, and instead of killing people they shot them with paintball guns, it was really lame."
@@kelseylandon1224 That is an extremely good point! I think either maybe he thought season 2 was being done by a completely different team in ameria, or who knows maybe he DID know it was a reality show and wanted real stakes XD
Since the show has come out, contestants have been speaking out about it. Red-light green-light lasted over 8 hours. The show depicts a 5 min timer, but contestants had to hold their pose for 30-40 mins at a time.
They were actually speaking about it WELL BEFORE, but people just didn't pay any attention. They've been yelling about how bad this was since it actually started filming back in February.
Sounds about like my uniform inspections during my time in ROTC. There was one time we had to all stand outside in our BDU's in 30° weather for a 45 minute long inspection, because they had to inspect every uniform... My knees, and my frozen face were mildly upset
I love how corporations just can’t quite wrap their head around what people actually liked about squid games. That being that it was against the rich and powerful putting on these events for demented entertainment and profit. I just made a comment about that but I hate how one of the girls gets mad and says “I would never do that” and then when the guy wins the tray of food with chips and two burgers everyone’s fighting trying to share and eat the chips and that girl grabs a burger and just starts eating it by herself and I just thought it was selfish, people had to share some chips on a pretty small tray and she “got” (took) a whole burger to herself
Apparently, the executive producer also said that the anti-capitalist themes were only a small part of the original series, so that should tell you how much he understands the source material

For the contestants It is life or death, and the money being worth dying for. The hyper rich and the hyper poor
The red light green light shoot actually took like 11 hours, people said online that it was green for like 10 seconds then was red for about 45 minutes, so she was popping a squat for like half hour, and that's why people were diving on the floor because it's easier to lay down for 45 minutes rather than stop on the spot
apparently the red light green light game actually lasted 17 HOURS and the contestants were holding poses for like 20-40 minutes between each time the clock was stopped
The problem was that the concept is so fucked up that doing it in real life is pretty impossible, which shows why there are so many injuries and lawsuits, I really hope this doesn’t take away from Squid Game S2 because that’s probably going to be great and I don’t want this shows bad reception and controversies to ruin that possible masterpiece
@@NiteraydeI wouldn't doubt it. There's got to be some underground criminal drug/human trafficking ring where the people up top making too much money have gotten board..
Yeah the issue with that particular redlight green light challenge was that they would have to freeze for much longer periods of time than what was shown in the final cut. Meaning they would have to freeze for up to half an hour at a time. Thats why so many people dove to the ground. Thats also why the girl gave up after squatting, it was for much longer than a couple seconds. They would also add time back on the clock so main characters could make it. In other words, they already had a good idea of which contestants they wanted to proceed to further rounds. Everyone else were just extras
If they just did an actual game show instead of a scripted reality show it probably would be a much better show. They went through all this effort just to make it worse.
im ngl the mullet guy and old man were the only people I routed for the entire series to just both get eliminated by a girl who got the chance of 3 eliminations. Now I really dont care anymore
What made squid game such a great show was that each challenge had high stakes, you felt the pressure of the game and the actors and that was a fantastic watch because you knew its just a show and a fantasy Trying to do it in real life is just cringe and removes the entire premise of the actual show
Original Squid Game show: The harsh force of capitalism drives people into poverty and desperation which allows for cruel and inhumane games like this to exist. Games like this should never exist. Makers of new Squid Game: But what if we made Squid Game totally unironically and also made the contestants physically suffer too? *Someone wasn't paying attention here*
Reminds me of the time creatives wanted to make Rollerball from the 1975 movie of the same name an actual sport but the director of the movie was outraged they thought of the idea since it went against the message of the movie. Though we got the horrible reboot years later.

Those are literally facts, don't make yourself look like a fool by making an useless reply.)
Those were the dorm tests. Jack in the box was a risky one, and those who participated had to choose up to 3 people to eliminate, and one guy got an advantage for the next game, but he was the second to last one, and the last girl to open her box, ended up eliminating the guy with the advantage ,which was funny as hell. The orange one was a chore, and if they did it fast enough, the dorm got a “treat” which was a picnic, and they had to choose a partner to have the picnic with, but what they didn’t know, it turns out, that the person they had a picnic with, is their marbles partner, which was a clever way of doing it.
How the heck can they even hold a challenge event based on the most basic children's game and somehow still injure their contestants. At least in the original show, the contestants were at risk of getting fatally shot by the organizers if they lost the game.
Squid game is a show about anti-communism and how the elite use the poor as toys. If you think China and Russia are so great maybe you should move to one.
@ujlt7198 no he's saying all these games are exploring people. Its one of the reasons why thevgive them glasses(other shows) do you can't tell how they cut the scenes. Since they sometimes dehydrate, starve and liquor these people up to get the rarest emotional actions.

As someone who was actually there as a contestant for 9 days, I can say nothing was scripted or trumped up. Bryton (432) was genuinely that way, the whole way through. The MIVs (interviews) were definitely baited or targeted questions but there was honestly NOTHING that was pre-planned or staged. I WILL say the final cut really edited out a LOT of context. I've been filling in gaps for people all week. The production were just extremely opportunistic at framing things well. For example, Dani and Kyle (the people who eliminated 200) were pulled out randomly to do chores, we had NO clue they were the ones selected to take that test. The next day is when they revealed the elimination, so it genuinely caught us off guard.
Oh shit, you're for real! Lieutenant and all, so cool! Were the people on it really the 'big players' or did production frame them that way? I've heard a lot of things generally get changed in the editing room, so I'm just curious about that aspect of things...
They could have broken the groups of 100. Do 1 full episodes with each group, fleshing the contestants like a "real" reality show and creating expectations with each episode. When the groups got smaller, they would join into one big group. You would have alliances from the previous groups, drama from the ones that already made groups and it will snowballed from there. They didn't have to copy a 1 to 1 version. They just need it to do a reality show and dressed up with the squid games.
my personal favorite part of this show was the during the dalgona episode, between cuts, there is suddenly a hole punched into the triangle door 😭 they also bullied a sensitive neurodivergent dude in this episode
You should’ve mentioned the girl that gave up on the green light, red light because she couldn’t hearing the popping sounds of people getting eliminated. So she basically lays down and starts crying in a bawl
I thought she stopped because she, for whatever reason, decided to stop in a squatting position. If she were squatting for 30 some minutes, that would be hard to keep up.

I just pushed myself through all 5 episodes, it was difficult but now it's proven that it can be done. The worst part of the whole show was when some lady was acting like a saint, like she was the savior for the whole group because she chose to vote out a doctor/surgeon or something that did absolutely nothing wrong. If anything he was trying to help the group and had good intentions. She was so proud of herself for that. This was in episode 4
What do you mean savior? She was just watching out for her team and eliminating threats. The doctor(330) was a leader and eliminating him was a good move
@@shellynick763 He wasn't a leader of any group or team and was certainly not one of the biggest threats to her or her group. She saw that somebody disagreed with her on something and chose him because of that, which in my opinion is immaturity. He had good intentions and if anything was making sure there were NO targets on anybody including their group by making the eliminations random. If I was one of the remaining players, I would have also disagreed with him, but I also realise that his intentions were good and that he would have been no threat to me. It was not a smart choice at all. Edit: I don't mean to offend any specific people, but from what I've seen online it's very common for Americans to associate "disagreement" with "against". I think it's a very immature way of thinking.

But she turned down the opportunity after finding out what the living conditions would be like during her final interview with one of the shows producers. She was smart enough to ask about living environment and accommodation during her virtual interview. She told me they told her that they have to stay in the building during the entirety of the shoot, that they couldn’t leave even during NON-filming hours, that the showers were co-ed & communal (but had individual stalls-at the very least), that they’d only be wearing the track suits and no other change of clothing even on NON-filming days, that their belongings would be confiscated (no phones, no books, no music, etc), and that they couldn’t order food from outside and they were to eat only what the show provided them with to make the experience feel more “real” and “immersive”. She said when she heard all that she was like hell no and respectfully bowed out, lol. Good luck to the 1 person who ends up being the sole victor though.

My very offline dad got so bored watching this that he went to watch the actual series. I think he liked it, he stayed awake the whole time and didn’t even make one dad noise.
Besides the inhumane treatment, the way this interpretation works is terrible. All the people they showed (the old man and mullet man) were my favorite. They were doing fine in the game until they give a literal random the opportunity to eliminate 3 people, which was both of them. They could not do anything about it.. so unfair..
They got eliminated because the producers called out the old man to be taken back stage and the dude with the mullet went with him, at that moment their fate was sealed because now everybody became aware of their presence and when they both came back the most logical thing to assume is that they gained some type of advantage, which they technically did (candy bar), so in short the producers of the show screwed the old man and the dude with the mullet.
Another thing, a contestant talked about this after it released and it turns out they were out there playing red light green light for over 8 hours wearing nothing but the tracksuit. The girl squatting was there for like 40 minutes according to the contestant.
@jenilee-ef1zithe difference is most shows don't require you to squat or stand in an awkward position for an hour, over 8 hours. They let you stretch in between takes if positioning isn't a big deal - and if it is, they just mark your position with tape so you can stretch and then return to the same spot. No ethical or normal directors would expect this of their actors.

What's really dumb is they should've known marbles was coming up yet they all decided to pair with their best friends when told to pair up.

I mean, it was real. But they did make sure to film the most interesting people who signed up and edited out a lot to fit it all in to make it all fit.
I don't think it's fake I just think Netflix has purposefully hand picked each and everyone as mentally ill misfits from each other to create as much drama as possible. Ego is a big thing as well trust me people can act and say really dumb things if they think they're better than everyone else, it's ironic because anyone playing for the money isn't going to win the money. They need a different mindset to win. My money is on 18 (quiet, reserved, smart and watching in the background) The casting isn't fake but the selection process certainly wasn’t random at all. To add onto this they purposefully created challenges to further stir the drama by eliminating alliance members to create more drama. I think it's in the terms to go out quietly if eliminated as you can see people quietly balling their eyes out hunched over. So there was real stakes and loss on the line for certain. It's not Squid game it's a psychological mind fxck.
Yea I think Charlie doesn't understand how reality tv editing works to make such narratives. All the people are purposefully chosen as big personalities and then they deliberately cut and pick out the most wild lines and scenes to emphasise and concentrate those personalities to make them over the top. Then they cut and paste voice lines, canned reactions to exaggerate each scene.
they literally wrote in plot points from squid game into the inter-personal contestant drama. a lot of coincidences for a non-scripted show. it honestly watches like a high school musical version of a theatre show.
Started watching this after Thanksgiving with my family. It's pretty amazing how fast we were all over it. Conclusion: "So this is just Squid Game again...? But worse?" Edit: We were wondering why, during a game where that they needed to run, everyone had their hands in their pockets. Turns out it was fucking freezing.
One of my distant family members was a participant in the challenge under the number 232 as the oldest contender at 69 so during Thanksgiving we all sat down and watched it. Most of it was pretty mid but he did the funniest shit and started a group among the contestants called the “gganbu gang”. This show may have been a poor attempt at expanding the Netflix monopoly but I was glad to see him have fun during all of it.
Doc Rick was the best thing that happened to this show, he seemed like someone who really liked the original show, from all the people there he was the only person I got the feeling that he is there to have fun,to be more emersed in the Squid Game Universe, he remembered ddakji, I think he came up with Gganbu as their name, I wish all the best to him and his 18 grandchildren
Rick was cool but I didn’t forget what he said in episode 1 when said he was using his age to his advantage Rick was the real number 001 he’s the puppet master but I was sick when they booted him
Aw I love Rick! I was so sad when him and the young guy got booted off. It was such an unfair way of doing things, but I'm glad he at least seemed to have fun.
Idk it just doesn't hit the same when the players know that their lives aren't on the line. Like the scene with the woman who quit bc she got tired of squatting in red light, green light really killed it for me.
That one was crazy because d so he was only like halfway squatting and there’s no way they had a red light for over a minute because the timer doesn’t stop running. So she was dumb enough to squat for no reason and weak enough either mentally or physically to not hold a half-squat for max like 45 seconds
Saw a girl on tiktok who was supposedly contestant 021 (emmashavingfun). She said it took like 6 hours to film red light green light and some of the pauses were having to hold their poses for 40 minutes at time, so that’s probably why they couldn’t stay in the squat. And that’s also why a lot of them were flopping or trying to get into a seated position…
@@callmecharlie4250 that does explain why she had to quit but that’s stupid as hell on the show creators’ side to pretend it all happened within 10 minutes and highlight her giving up because it definitely took away from the quality of the show

So I personally know one of the contestants. He stated that for red light greenlight was not 5 mins and was actually 7 hrs. The robot would sing for 5 secs and the timer would only countdown during the singing part. When the robot was not singing, the timer would pause and they had to hold their position for 20 mins. They would review the footage to see if anyone moved during the game and they couldn't move while they reviewed the footage. Thats why people would dive, so they would be laying down instead of standing for 20 mins and thats why the girl who squatted got out, cuz she had to hold the squat for 20 mins. My friend said people got out because they had to go to the bathroom and couldn't hold it.

The shapes in the cookies challenge should have been hidden. They should let them choose a mystery gate and then give them time to change. Once the players picked their line, that's when they reveal the shape.
In the first game, the contestants had to hold poses for "long periods of time" because every time they stopped they had to stay that way, not moving, for like 10 minutes while the show runners checked if anybody moved.
I actually got interviewed for the show. Scheduled for a sit down, and for some reason, they never got back to me. Strangely enough, it was based out of a town where I lived - I’ve been in those hangers before on tours and I already knew it was going to be an issue for those contestants way before production had started.
I was so confused by this. At first I thought it was new Korean stuff. Then I thought it was a remake. Then I fast forwarded to red light green light and saw it was paintballs. Then I absorbed how bad everything was, But the set still looked pretty good. It is just a mind fuck as why this exists. It honestly just made me feel bad for hours habing been exposed to it.
It's not bad, obviously nobody's gonna die. So far I'm at episode 4 and this show is really interesting and quite funny. Some proper drama queen's like any other reality TV show bit so far this, for real life, is pretty authentic. I mean the umbrella game was brutal ffs

I found it funny bad. A guy got bullied into choosing umbrella and started crying about it. He also cried in the interview. the show is good: its a standard reality show and you can skip the filler if you want. so nothing agaisnt it; everyone is being overly dramatic but intentionally so, so they appear in the final edit. i can understand not liking reality shows in general and essentially people pretending to be energetic and annoying to draw attention but its not bad in any way.
fun fact: i remember they were doing a little survey about this show and the people who completed it had a chance to be on this show.. let's just say i don't think i ever finished the survey because of how sus it was
my uncle was on the show, and he stood in the cold for HOURS before being eliminated. I have no idea why netflix made it seem so short, the timer was NOT 5 minutes, but rather 5 hours.
It’s like a show made years ago, it put contestants in a “apocalypse” scenario (but it was obviously the backlot of either Warner or some other studio lot), and they had to find their food, they got a shelter but no resources so they had to make cisterns for rain water, a handmade water filter system, they even rigged a bunch of car batteries with a solar panel to get power. The really stupid part was that ever so often crew members would go by as just “survivors” and either trade with them or try to invade the shelter. The show was beyond stupid because they even had to act as if a real apocalypse had happened and they where among the last humans remaining.
To be honest, if people signed up to that game show thinking it’d be “fun and rewarding” it’s their own faults. Even the aplication if you look it up is disturbingly vague on a lot of details. You’re competing for 4.5million, in a competition based off a traumatising tv show? And now they’re all only sueing and complaining cause they lost and want their cut.
Did they learn nothing from the original Squid Game? Edit: Why do I always get the weirdest replies to the most basic comments? (even outside of spambots)
IDK, when someone has a net worth of probably over $1B, I am not sure they are simply a UA-camr anymore; they can afford a budget on almost any practical scale. But I get ya; the fact that MrBeast made something presumably better (I haven't watched it) says a lot about Netflix.
bro wdym Mrbeast did better this is just being bias and being fanboy of mrbeast. Objectively, netflix did better and they also involved the director of squid game on this. IDK what's your mind but most of you that when someone knows the game, you say scripted. But when someone acting bad, you say worse. WTF it contradicts. You're just hating netflix because of their past issues.
I hate to admit it, but I loved it. It's clearly fake, massively over produced, unrealistically dramatic, but for some reason I can't switch it off and am actively looking forward to the next episode. I guess I just find it funny, the strange interactions between the players, the odd characters they chose to develop throughout the show, how everyone seems to be an ego-maniac, toxically competitive athlete, bible thumper, paranoid month breather, "a good guy/gal", or some mix in-between. And how the focus characters shift wildly has people get eliminated. It's like a guilty pleasure, a bad reality tv show you wouldn't tell your friends you watched unless you knew they were fans too.
@@Tideman11Right!! It's sad they were treated badly behind the scenes. But it was nice watching real people act like real people. You fall in love with nearly everyone and you can't eve root for one team or person. I liked the people tbh. That's what's made the show for me.

The creators behind this show are the all-time champions of the "Missed the Point" Competition.
So, horrible framing ruined what could have been cool.
Oh shit, you're for real! Lieutenant and all, so cool! Were the people on it really the 'big players' or did production frame them that way? I've heard a lot of things generally get changed in the editing room, so I'm just curious about that aspect of things...

Wtf why is everyone hating? This show is actually really good 😂 and I usually cringe at reality TV. Ive been a cam op for some reality tv, and I can tell which shows are fake. One of my friends auditioned to be on the show and got accepted to be a participant.

Besides the inhumane treatment, the way this interpretation works is terrible. All the people they showed (the old man and mullet man) were my favorite. They were doing fine in the game until they give a literal random the opportunity to eliminate 3 people, which was both of them. They could not do anything about it.. so unfair..
What humane treatment?
Thats THE POINT of the game!
The game is supposed to be unfair. I don't think it is scripted btw.
Did you know that cats can be gay lesbian or bisexual :3
This is the prime example of what happens during a writer and actors strike. We get garbage reality shows like this.
@@BufferThunder It takes more than a month to make a show.

They knew it was the cookie game. THey were just brought into the wrong room and then instead of doing what the TV show did and let them each pick their own cookie they were all dependent on whoever was in front of the line.
They also assumed that the 3rd game was going to be Tug-O-War but it turned out to be Battleship.
What's really dumb is they should've known marbles was coming up yet they all decided to pair with their best friends when told to pair up.
i actually liked the change to Battleship, tug of war is super strength dependent so the team with all the big guys on it would probably win.

My money is on 18 (quiet, reserved, smart and watching in the background)
The casting isn't fake but the selection process certainly wasn’t random at all.
I’m 100% better than Charles
Yeah they need all the brownie points they can get
Yea I think Charlie doesn't understand how reality tv editing works to make such narratives.
I felt like these people were not desperate enough.
Like not even a little bit.
Started watching this after Thanksgiving with my family. It's pretty amazing how fast we were all over it. Conclusion: "So this is just Squid Game again...? But worse?"
Edit: We were wondering why, during a game where that they needed to run, everyone had their hands in their pockets. Turns out it was fucking freezing.
I was wondering the same thing when I saw their hands in their pockets
I figured it would be so they could stop faster and not having to hold their arms in the freeze position
I watched the whole thing and i really think its fun bad. Alot of things happen and its really cliche and its just pretty funny.
I thought it was pretty decent. I liked it.
The production was done in England on a chilly day early 2023. Perhaps March or April.
The way Charlie goes "Nooooo! Nooooooooooooooooooo!" had me giggling like an idiot.
Yoo Rick was my fav, he was done dirty
Doc Rick was the best thing that happened to this show, he seemed like someone who really liked the original show, from all the people there he was the only person I got the feeling that he is there to have fun,to be more emersed in the Squid Game Universe, he remembered ddakji, I think he came up with Gganbu as their name, I wish all the best to him and his 18 grandchildren
Rick was cool but I didn’t forget what he said in episode 1 when said he was using his age to his advantage Rick was the real number 001 he’s the puppet master but I was sick when they booted him
Rick was a favorite for me aswell, i am very close to kitanning, PA. he was easy to root for
Aw I love Rick!
@@shanedancer3895multiple sources saying that the some freezes actually lasted longer than half an hour.
@@callmecharlie4250 that does explain why she had to quit but that’s stupid as hell on the show creators’ side to pretend it all happened within 10 minutes and highlight her giving up because it definitely took away from the quality of the show
@@shanedancer3895that’s a good point. It probably would’ve been more interesting if they revealed that each pause was 10~40min to show how intense it was. Maybe a few shots of people shaking in place from an uncomfortable position, etc.
Making it seem like it’s a few seconds or a few minutes tops downplays the “intense gameshow” vibe they’re trying to go for.
All of Charlie’s recreations of the overdramatized reactions in the show is better than the entire show
My favorite part was how they started the interviews by adding tidbits about the contestant with their number, but gave up completely on it like 15 minutes later.
I'm fairly sure they did that with those they knew were gonna be there for the rest of the episode, and cut those who got Eliminated. For the most part

The red light green light one actually took more than 7 hours to film due to the long time it took them to be sure of who to eliminate each single pause.
when i saw it on netflix i thought it was one of those "reality" tv shows, but it was set up like a black mirror episode. The interviews were so over the top I thought for sure it was fake. but then i saw people not actually dying and i was like oh, it's just a shitty reality tv show for real
My friend said people got out because they had to go to the bathroom and couldn't hold it.
i was wondering why people kept laying/sitting down, that’s so dumb

The really stupid part was that ever so often crew members would go by as just “survivors” and either trade with them or try to invade the shelter.
