The parallel between the homeless at the park choosing the lottery over the bread and then in the games, always wanting to play 'one more game' as opposed to voting to go home was perfect
Homeless people don't typically lack for calories they lack for nutrition and places to safety sleep. The bread doesn't solve those issues the ticket might.
Good review. One thing i want to point out is that the front man does have very subtle moment where he disappeared off screen without a good explanation as to how he survived. Game 3 when he trys to find a group of 6 on his own. He disappeared and when asked about it just says he's good with people.
At one point in game 3 the number of people is divisible by 4 with a remainder of 1. The frontman was 100% that remainder of 1, meaning he just went into a room by himself and wasn't eliminated. I'm pretty sure this was the only time he wasn't actually in danger though, especially considering the scenes in game 2 where he kept failing and nearly got everyone killed.
@@Creepymoose135 I think he was intentionally failing a few times. He was confident he could do it with his left hand, but failed three times with his right so that it would come down to the wire. He was messing with the players the whole time.
Pretty sure he was doing that on purpose. If he was too good at every game, then it would've been suspicious. Plus I theorize he just wanted to feel the feeling of people cheering for him. Admiration if you will. @Creepymoose135
@@SwagSwagSenate their team was one of the last 2 teams there, so if they failed they would've just killed the rest of the players and kept 001 and maybe 456 alive.
8:40 They seemed to intentionally change the tone of the second game. The music was more playful. That seemed to compliment all of the childhood games they were playing. It had a sort of slap stick style humor that you’d find in something like demon slayer with Zenitsu. The lighthearted nature seemed super intentional. To me, the change of tone made it a bit more interesting rather than it being suspenseful the entire time.
I noticed this too. I think the director understands that we understand none of the main characters are in any real peril (because plot armor), so they toned down the suspense and white-knuckle scenes and opted for ways to flesh out the characters (Such as the mom and son, the marine, and the bond between In-Ho and Gi-Hun)
I definitely agree! I thought it worked because we all knew the main characters weren’t going to die. I also like how it showcased everyone rooting for each other and wanting the teams to survive
@@Raganlueckyeah I feel like Charlie didn't understand the change in tone, we as the audience know 456 isn't gonna die so ofc his teams last, I found myself more so rooting for the old lady and her son bc really we have no idea if they'll survive
the yo-yo effect of swinging between dark comedic moments and horrific suspenseful ones really elevates this season. the director already knew that the audience is somewhat desensitized to the first-time horror of s1 so I think this is a really good choice.
Yep, people don't know this was a build up to season 3. Season 2 and 3 are basically season 2 split in two. If Season 2 was really the end of the series, yes it would be bad. But season 3 will make up for it.
Use to watch Northernlion play geoguesser and its insane there are people like that forreal. Long time ago a youtuber accidently posted too much of his front yard and people tracked him down in a day
Charlie, regarding the "Half-baked season" trend, THANK YOU. I thought it was just something I noticed, but I feel like I see it everywhere now. Especially this year. Yes, I understand you need anticipation and reason to keep watching, but it's always the most infuriating feeling when you start a new season leaving with more questions than answers.
i agree but thankfully we are getting s3 in 2025 - rumours around june/july based off a screenshot of a Korean channel exposing the date by accident. It is crazy we wait number of years for 7-11 episodes cough cough stranger things
The Frontman was absolutely badassed this Season. Imagine the mental and emotional trauma when Gi-Hun realises the very person he was looking for was right beside him all along. I also liked that they took a deeper look at the people int he pink suits, how they were recruited and how they operated.
@@akimoxyz6820 It was the opposite for me. Knowing who the front man is and how like his mind works, I NEVER trusted a single word out of his mouth or a single action he took. One way and one day, I knew he would eventually turn and the writers gave us the benefit of already knowing who he is.
@@vibeshazzer214 they already completed season 3 since 2 and 3 were filmed back to back. Its like Harry Potter deathly hallows completed at the same time but part 2 was released later for more money.
I feel like instead of the games being the focus, it was the voting. The whole society has to change for the games to end was really well written. “One more game” because the money wasn’t enough
Exactly that. And similar to casino games, dont matter how much you try to convince people its bad many wont change their mind. The social commentary in season 2 was really well thought
@@Zackiezzz wrong money isn't anything. Its humans dude. Season 2 is everything and more. I loved how it takes its time with the first two episodes to show what progress was going on in 2 years. My favorite is episode 3 that I cried because it was badass how he yelled FREEZE to try and save everyone. The only thing that was not good was the plan to steal their guns but he was desperate. I love how everyone was so supportive that they wanted everyone to succeed. Once again the cast was all top self and left me wanting more!
Nah. Episode 1 & 2 were fine and after that it became worse and worse until that poor excuse of a season "finale" where the show turns into some kind of money heist shootout where the random participants have 10x the aim compared to the trained guards 😂 and seemingly infinite ammo.. Such bad writing I understand now why the author didn't wanna continue after season 1 and did it only for the money..
Gi-Hun's character development from the end of season 1 to the start of season 2 is just remarkable. Whenever you see his face in season 2, you can immediately see the horrors he went through just by looking at his face.
The end of season 1 was shit though. He had that money in the bank but wouldn't touch it. Why? Not touching the money won't bring the dead people back. At the least he could withdraw the money and give it to the families of the dead people but no. Seriously the show was average AT BEST. Battle royale did it better decades ago. Also it's a crime that squid game got so much attention but Kingdom which was vastly better didn't.
@@thatoneguychad420he says he didn't spend it because it is not his. How do you expect him to give the money to the families when he knew little to nothing about them or where they were from.

i understand your complaint about the 2nd game for the new season, but as a korean i recognized all of those games immediately: they were all traditional korean children's games, just like the namesake of the series. i think the series shines most if you grew up with the games: its a twisted, dark take on korean kid games, where usually you do get a punishment for losing (벌칙) but this time, instead of smthng innocent like a flick on the head it is death. edit: feels weird to have to include this about a series exploring corruption of innocence and society as a whole about *south korea*, but when i said these are traditionally korean children's games i did not say they are specifically and originally korean. if your country has similar games that's great! but squid game was always meant to be a deconstruction of korean culture, including its children's games. this means that a lot of the games you are seeing on the screen are in reference to games that korean adults will recognize playing growing up, including me.
It's not about the games, I know some of those games and I'm Moroccan. It's the fact that the deaths weren't even focused on, it was basically a montage with a silly childish song, it took out the stress from it. The next game had a children's song and it was horrifying, seeing everyone frustrated and terrified and chaotic, that really hit well! I also think it's because it was played in 2 teams only, and they had an audience cheering for them, it made it seem like it's no big deal and things are okay
One thing I really liked about the second game was it allowed for more emotion from the characters than just depression or anger. I think that’s something this season does really well in comparison to season 1. The staff feel way more emotive and human than the first season, and seeing the contestants celebrate their wins, specifically in the second game, felt really rewarding.
yess whenever i didnt recognize a game, i would just search it up. same with any foods that were mentioned. so many cool cultural details sprinkled throughout this series
spoiler follows in the carousel game, the front man has to split off of the main group to find a group all by himself since the group size was 4. once that round is over the number of players remaining was 165, not divisible by 4. it is divisible by 4 with a remainder of 1 though. i think the front man just got into a room by himself and wasnt killed for breaking the rules.
@@theworld6710All of the rooms were filled with two people, and that one was filled with 3. 101 people in total. Once he killed him, 100 people remained.
8:52 to the point of lack of dread in the second game I personally liked the touch of the hopefulness in place of dread because it felt all the worse when something that seems simple wasn’t able to be done by a player
Finished it all in one sitting yesterday. I was so worried it was going to be bad and people would hate it. I am so relieved to see the positive feed back because I loved this season.
I don't see how anybody thinks this season was good. It ended on episode 7 and felt like an episode 7 of a 10 episode season. The games with the exception of Mingle were also boring.

be prepared for the ''shocking'' ending of the season 3 finale revealing that the police and governments around the world know about the games each year and are paid off by the VIPS who fund the games so it's impossible for Gi-Hun to stop them from occurring
@@wake.up2it Also Hwang Dong gave permission for David Fincher to come out with an Americanized version of the show after season 3, so he obviously isn't going to have some happy ending where Gi-Hun finds who is in charge and ''stops them''. I highly doubt they will use he is the new front man storyline because most people who are invested in his character will be pissed and find it to be a lame ending as well
I think the red hair was supposed to symbolize how Gi-hun is following the Front Man's orders like the pink suits but when he didn't get on the plane, he is back to his original hair colour just longer (like he re-enter the game, but just more experienced)
In the second round, I loved to watch the workers in the background tidied up the game and pulled out their chairs to sit. Simple gestures, but makes them more humane.
9:24 i feel like the reason the second games weren’t as tense was because the game is trying to convince the people to vote to stay in. “ just one more game “ that was one of the most repetitive lines. i feel like it honestly fits within the writing to make that one less stressful, plus they were building a bond w one another by cheering groups on. sort of like manipulation to the players that ‘they can do this’ and continue
I think the second games were incredibly intense not because what they were, like you said they seem to have been made easy for the one more game line. But, after seeing the first two groups fail so spectacularly because one player couldn’t get their shit together is nerve racking.
I liked the 2nd game, also in contrast to the first season, they were told they get to split the earnings if they voted out, so indeed it was a-lot more motivating between each other, in the first season if they voted out they got nothing & the money was said to get split evenly between the families of the deceased, so the survivors either played till the end or leave at any point but if they leave they get nothing
i think they tried to incorporate the “just one more time and ill stop!” thing into the show, since they give them alot of opportunities to stop but keep them there by literally dangling what they could get over their heads. bc really its gambling ur existence. its either u win - or vanish off the face of the earth, from the perspective of everyone back where u came from. modt of them think they will br able win, thats why they continued.
Surprisingly enough, the first 2 episodes were my favorite despite not even being the main games. And the first russian roulette sequence was genuinelly nerve racking.
same, they made the recruiter super mysterious last season, and so to see them actually catch him and finding out how completely unhinged he is was so good!
I’d say my favorite episodes go in this order from best to worst: episode 6(Mingle game/they did a good job at replicating the stress and intensity that they had in the first season of squid game), episode 3(Red light green light), episode 5(One More Game), episode 1(the highlight was everything about the recruiter), episode 4, episode 7(Although I should’ve known that this season would focus on taking down the games, it feels like they do it too abruptly here and the whole tone of the season changes very quick here and it just turns into a war basically) Episode 2(Halloween Party/I was honestly just waiting for Gi-Hun to be in squid game already at this point by the time the second half of the episode started)
Totally agree - I wish some of the other games maintained that sense of death / like mingle : I wish the rooms had traps inside in order to escape and then released just to go right back into a new “safe” room - I loved the comedic breaks during the second game (Asian shows do that really well I’ve noticed) / I’m going to rewatch to better understand - 11
Totally agree with the review. One thing not emphasized in this review are the people in the game. While the first season had people down on their luck, most of whom presumably would leave if they got enough money, this season had enough infamous influencers filled with greed and no regard for lost lives. The new types of characters were more shallow than the first season, by design, but it was a refreshing touch. Also nice was the backstory on a pink guard... but i won't spoil it here.

I've got a theory. The man in the black mask was in the games for his wife and won but instead stayed to help the place. Our main protagonist is being slowly molded into being the new manager.
i agree with theory I think he most likely stayed because of his wife death (we see her memorial in one of the first episodes) and thought he has nothing to loose after her death
I think the front man did cheat in some of them as he goes off screen in the 3rd game for one of the rounds. Actually, if you think about it, there's a reason why the front man's group was the last one in round two, since if the group failed, nobody would see the soldiers shoot everyone but the frontman.
Yeah in the tied leg mini game race he was in the last two teams. So it'd be easier for him to escape. Worst case his team loses and the other team win. Theyd only see them from across the room. Just shoot one extra bullet into floor, have him play dead and escort the winners out.
@@fossil98 same with the musical numbered group rooms, if he didn't strangle that guy he would've still be fine because the other two would've been killed, and even if he couldn't get inside one of the rooms he can always play dead facing up, so the number 001 shows clearly.
@natisfreezing I'm certain he cheated in the middle of the group numbers game, and later killed a guy in a room to avoid possible suspicion by his "teammate". He could've left and played dead but it would also raise suspicion because there was little time left. From frontmans actions in the very last episode where he killed some of his employees it seems that he can get away with doing literally anything to all the workers and only submits to VIPs and his now dead boss.
@MMythBunkersB I think he played the numbers game bc he was willing to kill anyone. But yeah killing his workers doesn't make sense. Unless they all know he is on the inside but still won't they question his way of doing things. Either way, whatever he is paying these workers is enough for them to risk their lives.
I just finished watching, I love this season. It is filled to the brim with interesting people of whom you want them to survive, they don't make this season tragic by giving you more tragic deaths than season one, but they make it tragic because of the circumstances and the stories of the characters. All of them have unique personalities and motives and I love that. I just want more episodes asap.

The reason why the boat team on a goose chase is cuz of the captain. He set up the whole team. He plant the chip, the explosion, and he found the hit man brother.
I had wondered that from the second he said that he had found him floating. I wondered if the front man had called him to save his brother and then keep him away from all of it.
@@blackdandelion5549 My theory is that whenever the detective got close to the actual island, the captain could simply decline to go there due to bad weather conditions, thus never allowing him to get close
Also, in the tied leg mini game race he was in the last two teams. So it'd be easier for him to escape. Worst case his team loses and the other team win. Theyd only see them from across the room. Just shoot one extra bullet into floor, have him play dead and escort the winners out.
I think another cool thing about having the character on the inside was just how much insight we got to the operations. In season 1, the killing during the night seemed like something that happened and the guards had to rush in and stop it. Here, we see they line up outside even before lights out, specifically only on that night, and there's even an announcement telling them to prepare for the "special game"
Thought it was a bit odd when in game 2, once completing a mini game they would stop and celebrate with clapping and woo-hooing for 10 seconds while a 5 minute timer is still counting down to their death.
I found the island subplot interesting because it shows how deep the rabbit hole goes. That even with fully trained militants and a cop who is seeking the truth, the Squid Game has so many on their bankroll that you now have to wonder just how many people are aware that this exist. like with Seong seeking out the Squid Game, they were fully aware of his objective to find them and gave him constant outs to just live a normal life but he decided to push forward. The world building was actually done in a rather decent manner because it slowly pieces together just how many people know of this "secret" and their loyalty to keep this "secret" going. And to add to that, the payoff for the island hopping was the fact that they are fully aware that they are seeking them out and island hopping, it would no surprise me if they turned their attempts at finding them out into a gambling game with people betting on if they will find the right island, or how many islands it will take to find the right one and who will die first or if any will survive. I would also disagree, this season did have a full narrative, if anything it could be the deconstruction of the hero's journey. -Call to Action, re-entering Squid Games -Trials and Failure, the inability to save the people he had wanted to -Atonement, Fighting back against the system only to be shown that he was being played with the whole time and he's gained nothing out of it other than more blood on his hands. It's a great season that setups the 3rd Season in a very interesting manner because being the only one that they may be aware of surviving the ordeal they may start to think he is actually part of the system rather than trying to break the system. It will be interesting to see what he will have to do to survive now that he's most likely put a huge target on his back because all those lives lost in the last episode are his fault.
To be fair, the entire search mission plotline was Fucking pointless because the captain turned out to be an inside man. Making the "hard to find wow omg" thing more of a "this captain is intentionally avoiding the true island".
@@vulpix9210Thats the point. The reason the games are so hidden is because there are people like the captain making sure it stays that way. It’s not a coincidence people didn’t just stumble on the island while boating, the squid game problem has roots that run very deep which is what the captain adds to
@waltuh2412 I get that but it also kind of undermines the entire plot point of these guys searching. What I would've preferred watching is them showing us the captain being an insider first, then let us see HOW the captain fucks with them. It would've made a stronger B plot.
@@waltuh2412i kind of knew that was coming When the cop drowned he couldnt have drifted far away from the island when the captain saved him so the captain shouldve at least known which group of islands it was
Spoilers ahead: I loved this season. It's a lot more nuanced and cerebral then the first season in my opinion. The whole point of the games of season 2 was (somewhat paradoxically) not the games themselves but rather the vote to end the games and also the psychological battle between the perspectives of gi-hun and in-ho. Gi-hun has the belief that people are good and society (constructed and controlled by those at the top) is designed to keep the poor down, while in-ho (and il-nam, the recruiter, and other people behind the games) believe that people (especially those from the lower classes) are animals and that they are just putting people out of their misery. Gi-hun enters the games to prove to the front man that people better than he thinks but in the end gi-hun gives in to his worst impulses. Even though in-ho tries to convince gi-hun to adopt a plan of convincing o voters to change to x, gi-hun instead decides to sacrifice his fellow x voters to have a slim chance of shooting his way into the management room (which, even without in-ho returning to his role as the front man and "betraying" gi-hun, probably wouldnt have worked anyway). One thing i love about this season is just how flawed gi-hun is. Just like how the front man chides him at the end, gi-hun is trying to play the hero. Instead of finding the front man's brother earlier or bothering the police more, in order to stop the games, he decides to become john wick and is obsessed with being the one to confront the front man and stop the games. He doesn't even let the mob boss confront the recruiter on his own and he thinks everyone in the games will listen to him just because he was right about the red light green light game. In the end he is reduced to nothing but a rabble rouser; he is no hero. This gets me really excited for season 3. Does he follow in the front man's footsteps and become part of the games? Remember that the front man was also a previous winner and he is a great foil for gi-hun. Or does in-ho have a confrontation with his brother and become good? Season 3 cannot come soon enough. I completely agree with charlies opinion on splitting movies and tv shows into parts 1 and 2 (think harry potter, hunger games starring charlie, even the last mission impossible). It just leaves a lot of points unresolved. I think a lot of the criticism season 2 gets will be resolved by season 3.
The only thing is that Gi-hun went there thinking that the rescue team will find him. This is why he said he's fucked up when he checked on his tooth tracker that it was missing. I even thought that the loan shark best friend (the funny guy in the rescue team) was a traitor and he was outing that. So in other words, he didnt really go full John Wick.
Good observations but incomplete IMO. The decision to sway the vote from within rather than go in guns blazing directly parallels a real-world political debate: change from within the system itself (liberal democracy) vs change outside of the system (direct action, in this case political revolution). This is in line with the series' greater commentary on human nature and late capitalism. In-ho, being an agent of the games, has the interests of the games in mind first and foremost. His concerns do not lie with the players, his goal is to sustain the games at all costs. What better way to quell potential dissent as a secret agent of the system than to insist that real change should only be sought from within the system? In-ho knew that splitting the vote as he did would lead to a violent uprising. He actively wanted it. I think it's fair to say he was not expecting a heart-to-heart with the opposition to actually work. Gi-hun's methods are questionable, his motives at least somewhat selfish, but painting him as merely a "rabble rouser" who wanted to play John Wick ignores important context. He was in a very unique situation as someone who had been personally wronged by the games, had the means to actually fund a counter operation, and (most crucially) had empathy for all those who died in his wake. Law enforcement had long-since proven useless so there's good reason why he didn't go to them (and based on the established politics of the show there's a non-zero chance it will turn out LE itself is somehow involved in the coverup). He didn't go into the games a second time intending to be a solo revolutionary; he went in expecting full backup from a team of accomplices, themselves foiled by a second double agent in the form of the ship captain. So, cut off from his planned backup, faced with the very real possibility of another day watching others die for the amusement of some rich assholes, why not make a last-ditch attempt to finish it once and for all?
I enjoy the show but it's literally 100% unrealistic.. The whole plot only makes logical sense if police from all over the world have been aware of the games for a long time and look the other way because of the money they receive. Likely the money from VIPS who gamble on the games. When you consider how many young people are guards and how many young players there are in the game, it's literally impossible for police not to have been able to connect the dots all these years to at least realize something incredibly strange has been going on every year. If Hwang Dong goes with an ending like the police were actaully clueless about the games, he literally thinks the average viewer is a complete moron and has 0 respect for peoples intelligence
What I really like too with this season is how the gamemakers basically create a very divisive environment. They split the group in 2, they have them vote again and again, nurturing the divide. they Expect them to fight against eachothers and make sure to trigger the selfishness and gambling addiction in all of them. They give them the tools to fight and will not try to stop it. And yet, the games are designed in a way that working together as a group boost your survival chances. They don't play against eachother so far. it's always been games where you had more chance to survive when working as a group. In Mingle, X or O don't matter, better team up with the other to survive than die. In the Penthaton, you better cheer for your partners because their sucess directly affect yours and your chances at succeeding. I feal it show well this side of capitalism where the system is made to create division and individualism, when individuals usually thrive better by encouraging solidarity in face of hardship.
Season 2 is actually really good, the story they followed was really good and yea it ended with a cliffhanger with no tied up loose ends but that’s a perfect place to stop to lead into the final season also the characters they introduced were actually really cool, in my opinion they succeeded with season 2
Idk if this was just me, but this season made me realize that there are some interesting parallels with the Hunger Games. If you really think about it, both are about someone who’s chosen to play in twisted games made for the entertainment of the rich, and both have the winner(s) return to play again, and eventually form a rebellion and escape (or at least attempt to)
My butt was clenched ever since the 1st episode, its relieved the whole thing is over tbh. Season 2 shows us a glimpse of how much of a reach the owners have and what happens if you try stopping the games. Season 3 will probably show us the full scope. Everything was awesome, I love how the frontman AND the owner both play with Ji hun back to back
Spoiler mention: Theres one thing I want to mention. At the end of season 1 when Gi Hun has won the money and the frontman (Hwang In-Ho) sits with him. He doesnt have his mask on and I dont think he has his voice changer or suppressor either. Gi Hun made it his promise to come back and find him. He didnt see him but I would of thought his voice would be engrained into Gi Huns memory so that would be something he could catch on to. Everything would of worked well but since Hwang-In Ho was there everytime, it was bound to fall and it did.
If you watch it again you can see that when he was trying to throw on purpose he was using his right hand, but decided to lock in an use his left hand doing it on his first try.
I think the reason the 2nd game doesn’t feel so tense is since all the central characters are split onto 2 teams, which kinda makes it obvious all the characters you care for will survive.
Made no sense. If they killed a few O's off that would have saved more than letting his X's die and then having more get killed trying to take over the place. Having the majority vote would have been an easy out to save all those who remained.
well he believed that his team was gone bc they found his tooth tbf I dont think there anything else left to do also he didn't kill anyone lets not forget that the O ppl killed them and are evil bastards
To be fair, they wouldn't have had a chance against team O. Team O was mostly men who were totally willing to torture people to death. Most people in X weren't willing to kill in order to survive, not to mention the old lady, pregnant lady and the kind guys not standing a chance against O. If X attacked O first, they would've lost anyway, just because of their low numbers of members willing to kill. We literally see one of the baddest guys from X break down after seeing two people be killed off during their mission. Also they did get very close with Gi-Hun's plan, the reason they failed was because of the traitor.
@@sleepymonsteraddict nah the front man was toying with them the whole time. Even if didn't act as an inside man, they were still grossly outnumbered. The only reason they got as far as they did was because they didnt send out more soldiers right away.
I saw on the Squid Games subreddit that there is a screen saying Final Season 2025. I believe they have stated when they were writing S2 it became apparent they were gonna have to split it up cause of how much background we are gonna get. And can we appreciate how the actor(Gong Yoo) did portraying the role as the recruiter. The rock paper scissors and the final Russian Roulette scenes are absolutely fantastic.
I suspect, and I might be wrong - apparently a lot of Korean Television have seasons with 14 episodes, and that Netflix stepped in and said nah.. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s why it feels partially incomplete
yk that was intentional right the shows supposed to take place in are timeline thats the whole gimmick it says somewhere in season two about it being 2024 and everything
Bro when I saw them play Mingle, I got so uncomfortable. I'm American, but I remember having played this game before a few times. The pressure of fighting to be accepted or die felt personal.
The biggest issue I found with the second game was that they put two teams together that had insane plot armor. It just confirmed that 10 people were going to survive as they wouldn't kill all those main ish characters, which is unlike the third game, as one person might have broken off and died.
It’s funny to say that because remember in season 1 when we didn’t know how many people could survive and they did my boi Ali dirty. I think they have focus characters and then subvert it when they kill them.
8:39 to counter your point here I’d argue that’s literally the point. These games are not supposed to be scary. There are kids games that you play growing up. The reason why there are so many stakes is because if you lose normally as a kid, you can just try again, but if you lose here you die. I don’t think the games are supposed to be scary or see menacing. They are all just kids games that you play growing up in Korea. What makes it tense is the possibility of dying not the games themselves.
I found it odd that the main character didnt suspect that the guy playing as the number one is actually part of the games like last time. That was my very first guess even before the show started and it pisses me off that gi hun or whatever didnt even think about that possibility even once
I find it odd how a large number of young people suddenly go missing at the same time since 1988 and police are somehow clueless about what's going on. How could Gi-Hun not have made the police check the missing people reports since 1988 so he could make them see the pattern. How could he not go to them and let them know about all the peoples name he knew from the games and report them to the police they died etc.... You cannot use logical sense when discussing this show The only way the overall plot makes any sense even by the largest stretch is that it is revealed the police knew all along what is happening every year and look the other way because of the money they get from the VIPS who gamble on the games. Going by this logic you also have to assume the governments from around the world know too etc... I bet if Hwang Dong actaully goes with this sort of ending for the finale, people will say it's genius even though it is just 100% unrealistic and complete insanity
I legitimately didn't even realize until the very last moment in the season I spent the entire time wondering where the Front Man even was, not even realizing he was right there the whole time 😂
I loved Season 2 so much, but I absolutely hated that Gi-Hun actually played Russian Roulette fair and square with the recruiter at the end of the first episode. I was expecting Gi-Hun to have secretly removed the revolver bullet and then pull his pistol out of his coat the shoot the recruiter, just because he was curious to see how far the recruiter was willing to go all for the sake of playing the game fairly. Gi-Hun was willing to risk his life and his chance of stopping the games on a coin flip for the sake of proving himself to the psycho recruiter when he easily could’ve overpowered the guy with his pistol. Again though, I loved everything else about Season 2. But I hated that part.
I'll have to disagree on 8:18 about the second game Those minigames were very old games played during traditional Korean celebrations like New Years. Although they are pretty much party games, the newer generation (like me) struggled to learn how to play the games well. Try that gongi game with the pebbles for your own, and you will see how stupidly challenging it can get for a newbie. Game 2 specifically brought me back to younger times of my life where we were encouraged to participate in those same games during New Years, so maybe its a perspective thing. But either way thats my overall say, may this comment be swept away in the sea of 3,835 others LOL
I think what he's implying is that the games aren't suspenseful enough compared to the first season. the games where every inch of molecules in your body moves leads to 1/2 of losing your life. take the dalgona game for example in season one, one wrong move and you can lose your life. in the 2nd game's case, you can retry again if you fail, removing that suspenseful aspect.
Someone had wrote this in another comment but the second game was light hearted because the director knows that we know these characters have plot armor and wouldn’t die. Hence why it was more playfully toned and we had more time to see the development between the characters like the mom and son’s group
Only thing I was upset was Gi-Hun’s terrible plan to kill the guards. He didn’t want anyone to die and he wanted everyone to leave safely so they wouldn’t be murdered, but then immediately swaps up at the end, letting people who mostly have no training in shooting guns be apart of a suicide mission so Gi-Hun could get revenge. I don’t understand why Gi-Hun didn’t decide to do another vote, get out of there, keep everyone safe like he promised, and then gather his soldiers so he could get revenge that way. Gi-Hun had a lot of time to look for islands and other stuff when he’s out so it didn’t make sense to me
I mean its based in Korea where they have mandated military service so good chance everyone has used a gun, while having 2 marines and 1 ex special forces on his team. While also his intent was always 'stop the games at any cost' not just stop this set of games.
Yeah i was shocked when Gi-hun suggested that plan. He was like "i want to save everyone" " no one is going to die because that is what they want" then proceeded to sacrifice the X players to initiate their dumb plan. It's kinda dumb to steal the gun where the gun is strapped to the guards and Gi-hun didn't even know the layout of the area there.
Yes I felt the development was too abrupt and that too when they were so close to voting again. Gi-Hun has no idea how many guards there actually are what the layout is how the hell did he think he could take them all out? And the other players who supported him, why? To their knowledge they had a chance of going home why would they take such a huge gamble
Yeah but if he waited until the secondary vote, assuming everyone votes to quit the game, the game would've ended right then and there and it would be hard to find the island if there are no active games being played. You can see that when they played the first game, red light green light, the opened the roof on birds-eye view, so if they ended the game early then it would be even more difficult to find the island.
Because he had no choice to stop the game. The "tomorrow vote" was not guaranteed to be victorious for the Xs because, just like the Frontman warned him, people was going to fight and kill each other before the morning. The Frontman made the vote 50/50 knowing they will have to revote, throwing the whole process in jeopardy again. Gi-Hyun realized too late that the revote was not going to cut it and came up with the suicidesquad plan.
The season 2 cast was awesome, idk why some people dislike it, Gi hun changed so much. He was so happy in season 1 but didn't smiled a single time in season 2
Gi Hun (MC) has one crazy script hole. He is against killing other players himself (That want to kill him) but deliberately lets his comrades be massacred by them for a "greater cause". Just like when Erwin went on a suicide mission with his squad, against the Beast Titan, except Gi Hun deceives them into it.
That's deliberate - as the Games continue, Gi Hun starts internalizing the "Victory At All Costs" mentality that his friend and the younger Marine keep saying, to the point that he lets the massacre happen to district the guards. At that moment, he doesn't care about them as long as he gets to the Control Room. The only ones that matter to him (aside from whoever can get him more ammo) are his friend and Front Man.
Not gonna lie I expected season 2 to be a disaster compared to season 1 but it was actually pretty solid, a very pleasant surprise All things considered~ 🐙 🎯
I think it was a good season overall but one thing that bothers me is the combat scenes at the end where they just stay behind the walls and randomly shooting stuff and there is a constant gunshot sounds
This season was a good follow-up season Imo. The only thing I kept asking myself is why Gi-Hun didn't try to win people over with his money, like: "Hey y'all if you get out, I can help with your debt." Especially with the tied votes. He has the money for it. Or maybe I forget something😂 Anyhow, looking forward to the third season. I'm glad they already said it'll drop next year :)
probably bcs a lot of them thought Gi-Hun is a nutjob and they didnt believe his story (even if they believe the story, they all thought Gi-Hun had already spent all the money, they all think like this bcs Gi-Hun is back on the game)
I thought about that too, but let's try to think about it through Gi-Hun's perspective. Throughout the course of the game, Gi-Hun kept going on about how the money he won was "blood money" symbolizing all the participants that died in his game. Sure he spent some of it, but most of it went to the prospect of trying to end the games: firearms, mercenaries, private investigators, etc. He isn't spending it all willy-nilly. And let's say Gi-Hun does successfully bribe the participants into leaving the game, who's to say that they wouldn't come back? Yeah sure, Gi-Hun probably does have enough money to pay off everyone's debts, but greed can only get you too far (as seen w/ that one guy who had a 100mil debt). We've seen this happen once, and it could happen again. It's not like he could have hired private investigators to spy on each and every one of the contestants into making sure they don't rejoin the game, he already gave up his money for the bribe. Plus, who's to say one of the contestants don't get blinded by greed and try to kill Gi-Hun and take his money for themselves?
12:36 One example of this is 246, they build a huge amount of build up with a connection between him and Soldier 11 in episodes 1 and 2, then they slowly continue that throughout the other episodes till he just randomly gets shot in the finale
Helping him wouldn’t be realistic. Believe it or not, but the relationship between them was meant to show the audience that people with morals in these kinds of situations can’t do anything about it. They purposely gave us a horrible fate for the character to show that despite their relationship, anyone in that situation would’ve had to kill the one that they were close to, or and felt bad for. It’s realistic, not half baked.
I saw a lot of people say they thought the front man was becoming good and that's why he was in the games. Honestly thats the stupidest thing I've ever heard, he KNOWS gi-hun is planning something, and he killed (to his knowledge) his own brother. There is no redemption for him. It was obvious he was tricking them the entire time
To me it's pretty clear that the boat captain was instructed by the front man to save his brother and to keep him in check (ensuring he never finds the island).
What didn't make sense to me is why he waited so long to take action. Does he just get off on fucking with people lol? There was no reason to cut it that close/self-inflict that much damage at the end. Why was he even in the game to begin with? They'll probably explain it in S2, but I don't think it's insane for people to begin thinking he is changing his views over the course of the game.
@@CryZe92Exactly. Like the whole point of the show is that people are desperate for money, anyone doing anything for free (captain helping the cop) is a huge red flag
Gi-Hun’s name is pronounced as: Gee-hoon (G sounds like it would in the word “game”) Just clearing it up. The biggest twist in season 2 that makes me like it is that it humanizes the front man. It gives him a backstory and actually made me agree with him on some points. The next biggest twist is him betraying Gi-Hun. I really believed in him. The main character this season was the front man in my opinion, the clear star of the show. Also, out of all the subplots, my favorites in descending order are: - Noeul (the girl who becomes the pink henchman) and the sick baby’s dad - Myungi and Juhee (the crypto influencer and the pregnant girl) - Hyunju (trans woman) character development - the son and mom - the shaman lady (she’s annoying but she gives some clues to the character’s fates) - Minsu (the little bitch who gets bullied by Thanos and Minggyu) - - - - Junho’s (the police officer and brother of frontman) investigation. This subplot is absolute dogshit and frustrating to watch. Even their plan to track Gi-Hun was stupid. Also the fact that Junho withholds information about Inho being the frontman is frustrating as hell because the show could end very quick if they knew that.
I just finished it now, and I honestly loved this season so much. I knew it'd be good with how long they put into it... though some of your grievances are valid 😅 especially with the "searching for Gi-hun subplot" being not amazing. Although, I will say that Mingle is my new favorite of all the games... my heart was pumping for that entire episode. So tense and so fun to watch.
Ignore the negative replies here bro, they are just hypocrites who think that they are gods that have the right to tell on which is good and which is not. (Even they are unoriginal too😭)
Apparently the idea for season 2 was turned into seasons 2 and 3. Because of that season 3 is in post production and the turnaround for the next season will be by 2025
For this season I’m putting “rushing” in such a broad spectrum. Not only rushing to wrap up arcs but rushing the series in general. It was on such a great pace to match season 1 but it’s 2 episodes shorter. They didn’t have to do that at all
SPOILER WARNING………… ending on the failed coup, the capt betraying the team 30 mins before the finale and that entire island search in general not getting enough screen time, too much time spent on the voting to end the games. 9 episodes would’ve been great
honestly, they did season 2 so well and the storyline they chose was amazing, what they did with the recruiter had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. like that director / writer team really did amazing and acting ON POINT
Im glad they went a different direction and continued the story rather than going the easy route and do the games again. I also like the recruiter just being evil guy. I was expecting him to be an this wise and almost omnipotent guy who is unknowingly tricking people, but he unexpectedly just ended up being an evil guy who fucked with people even outside the game. I wasn’t expecting that. The key and best way to subvert expectations is to play into those expectations. The front man in the games is a perfect example.
The reason the second game did not feel as intense is bc the theme and music made it seem more light-hearted, and like there wasn't much at stake. I mean, the players spent precious time celebrating the little wins while the timer was still ticking down... it did not feel like a "life or death" situation.
It also makes sense since the creators of the game probably want to keep the game going they would be less crueler and tense in that regards, despite the results remain the same.
6:46 I 100% agree with what Charlie said here, us knowing who the Frontman is. Can’t help but make the connection to Breaking Bad, it makes us feel special as an audience knowing Walter White is secretly running a meth operation, has killed people, and is lying to everyone the whole time. We know these characters actions and motivations while everyone else doesn’t.

The parallel between the homeless at the park choosing the lottery over the bread and then in the games, always wanting to play 'one more game' as opposed to voting to go home was perfect
When I realized the parallel while watching at home I got literal chills
Bravo Vince.
The vote is unfair though. The people most likely to vote to leave are mostly likely to die in the first game before they can even vote.

@@Creepymoose135makes me wonder what happens if he did actually fail in front of everyone and the timer ran out
@@Creepymoose135 I think he was intentionally failing a few times.

@ That’s a good point. In a way, it treats the audience as if they’re not completely stupid lol.
I definitely agree! I thought it worked because we all knew the main characters weren’t going to die. I also like how it showcased everyone rooting for each other and wanting the teams to survive
@@Raganlueckyeah I feel like Charlie didn't understand the change in tone, we as the audience know 456 isn't gonna die so ofc his teams last, I found myself more so rooting for the old lady and her son bc really we have no idea if they'll survive
the yo-yo effect of swinging between dark comedic moments and horrific suspenseful ones really elevates this season. the director already knew that the audience is somewhat desensitized to the first-time horror of s1 so I think this is a really good choice.

i understand your complaint about the 2nd game for the new season, but as a korean i recognized all of those games immediately: they were all traditional korean children's games, just like the namesake of the series.
i think the series shines most if you grew up with the games: its a twisted, dark take on korean kid games, where usually you do get a punishment for losing (벌칙) but this time, instead of smthng innocent like a flick on the head it is death.
edit: feels weird to have to include this about a series exploring corruption of innocence and society as a whole about *south korea*, but when i said these are traditionally korean children's games i did not say they are specifically and originally korean.
if your country has similar games that's great! but squid game was always meant to be a deconstruction of korean culture, including its children's games. this means that a lot of the games you are seeing on the screen are in reference to games that korean adults will recognize playing growing up, including me.
Gonggi was cool. Wouldn't mind that coming to toy shops here.
I like they don't want to whitewash for global audience and still want to keep those koreaness in the show
One thing I really liked about the second game was it allowed for more emotion from the characters than just depression or anger. I think that’s something this season does really well in comparison to season 1. The staff feel way more emotive and human than the first season, and seeing the contestants celebrate their wins, specifically in the second game, felt really rewarding.

in the carousel game, the front man has to split off of the main group to find a group all by himself since the group size was 4. once that round is over the number of players remaining was 165, not divisible by 4. it is divisible by 4 with a remainder of 1 though. i think the front man just got into a room by himself and wasnt killed for breaking the rules.

I really enjoyed the first episode. I’m just mad this season ended on a cliffhanger
I’d say my favorite episodes go in this order from best to worst: episode 6(Mingle game/they did a good job at replicating the stress and intensity that they had in the first season of squid game),
episode 3(Red light green light),
episode 5(One More Game),
episode 1(the highlight was everything about the recruiter),
episode 4,
episode 7(Although I should’ve known that this season would focus on taking down the games, it feels like they do it too abruptly here and the whole tone of the season changes very quick here and it just turns into a war basically)
Episode 2(Halloween Party/I was honestly just waiting for Gi-Hun to be in squid game already at this point by the time the second half of the episode started)

He definitely placed the numbers game tho. The scene where he strangled that guy.
The reason why the boat team on a goose chase is cuz of the captain. He set up the whole team. He plant the chip, the explosion, and he found the hit man brother.
literally that, the captain is in the cahoots with the island obviously and made them go in circles
I had wondered that from the second he said that he had found him floating. I wondered if the front man had called him to save his brother and then keep him away from all of it.

The Frontman getting into the game to teach Gi-Hyun a lesson was the best part of season 2. Awesome acting from Lee Byun Hun.
He joined the game only to play a game against Gi-Hun. The moment he found he won the game, he quit to be the frontman again.

-Call to Action, re-entering Squid Games
-Trials and Failure, the inability to save the people he had wanted to
-Atonement, Fighting back against the system only to be shown that he was being played with the whole time and he's gained nothing out of it other than more blood on his hands.
This needs to be pinned
@@waltuh2412i kind of knew that was coming

Sure love the random 808 at 10:51 Charlie nice touch! Really adds to the video.

I think the reason the 2nd game doesn’t feel so tense is since all the central characters are split onto 2 teams, which kinda makes it obvious all the characters you care for will survive.
Gi hun’s decision to sacrifice most of the x team for a half baked plan instead of trying to protect them is what frustrates me the most
He literally played himself. Now the games are definitely not ending because I actually doubt that X even has more than 15 members

Most people in X weren't willing to kill in order to survive, not to mention the old lady, pregnant lady and the kind guys not standing a chance against O. If X attacked O first, they would've lost anyway, just because of their low numbers of members willing to kill.

What makes it tense is the possibility of dying not the games themselves.
oh wow, it ends so abruptly I thought that they had just delayed the release of the last 2 episodes.

I found it odd that the main character didnt suspect that the guy playing as the number one is actually part of the games like last time.
That was my very first guess even before the show started and it pisses me off that gi hun or whatever didnt even think about that possibility even once
He didn’t even question him at all, 001 knew the main characters name before anyone told him. Not suspicious at all?
@@DJ-POSEIDON888his friend said it before so that excuse actually made sense
same, that's my only criticism of this season
I find it odd how a large number of young people suddenly go missing at the same time since 1988 and police are somehow clueless about what's going on. How could Gi-Hun not have made the police check the missing people reports since 1988 so he could make them see the pattern. How could he not go to them and let them know about all the peoples name he knew from the games and report them to the police they died etc.... You cannot use logical sense when discussing this show
The only way the overall plot makes any sense even by the largest stretch is that it is revealed the police knew all along what is happening every year and look the other way because of the money they get from the VIPS who gamble on the games. Going by this logic you also have to assume the governments from around the world know too etc... I bet if Hwang Dong actaully goes with this sort of ending for the finale, people will say it's genius even though it is just 100% unrealistic and complete insanity

Westerners failing to remember korean faces like.
I'll have to disagree on 8:18 about the second game
Those minigames were very old games played during traditional Korean celebrations like New Years.

Oh really? Not even that one time jung bae called him cheap? No?
Gi Hun (MC) has one crazy script hole. He is against killing other players himself (That want to kill him) but deliberately lets his comrades be massacred by them for a "greater cause".
Just like when Erwin went on a suicide mission with his squad, against the Beast Titan, except Gi Hun deceives them into it.
BIURDINLAND IS BETTER THAN PENGUIN0 CUZ WE ARE BETTER THAN THE REST OF THE WORLD ;:-:;
Bro really talks about attack on titan 💀
I saw that episode of aot for the first time yesterday
That's deliberate - as the Games continue, Gi Hun starts internalizing the "Victory At All Costs" mentality that his friend and the younger Marine keep saying, to the point that he lets the massacre happen to district the guards. At that moment, he doesn't care about them as long as he gets to the Control Room. The only ones that matter to him (aside from whoever can get him more ammo) are his friend and Front Man.
MAKING THE COMPARISON TO AOT U ARE THE GOAT FOR THAT😭😭😭
Not gonna lie I expected season 2 to be a disaster compared to season 1 but it was actually pretty solid, a very pleasant surprise All things considered~ 🐙 🎯

@@Ligmanuttzwhat does that even mean? the ending wasn’t good but the season overall was pretty good
@@loveliestfawn no it wasn’t it was all rushed the games didn’t feel as intense or important like the first season you’re just coping
Or maybe I forget something😂
Anyhow, looking forward to the third season.
@someonesomewhereinthisworld Ooohh yeah that makes sense!!
Coz nobody would believe him... and many might choose to come back again to the games to win even more money
1. they did not believe Gi-Hun
2. Splitting all his money, it wouldn't cover their debt.
12:36 One example of this is 246, they build a huge amount of build up with a connection between him and Soldier 11 in episodes 1 and 2, then they slowly continue that throughout the other episodes till he just randomly gets shot in the finale
Yea that confused me I thought 11 would help him but maybe he isn't dead cuz we didn't see his body
@ Real
011 probably shot him non-lethally since she's a soldier and was looking out for him. Who else would you have shoot him in that scene?
Bro...this is season 2 @@badboje6040
@@CryZe92Exactly. Like the whole point of the show is that people are desperate for money, anyone doing anything for free (captain helping the cop) is a huge red flag
I think front man is actually good and they will give his backstory in the future episodes. He is just waiting to get to the real top
Gi-Hun’s name is pronounced as:
Gee-hoon (G sounds like it would in the word “game”)
Just clearing it up.
Also, out of all the subplots, my favorites in descending order are:
- Noeul (the girl who becomes the pink henchman) and the sick baby’s dad
- Myungi and Juhee (the crypto influencer and the pregnant girl)
- Hyunju (trans woman) character development
- the son and mom
- the shaman lady (she’s annoying but she gives some clues to the character’s fates)
- Minsu (the little bitch who gets bullied by Thanos and Minggyu)
-
-
-
- Junho’s (the police officer and brother of frontman) investigation. This subplot is absolute dogshit and frustrating to watch. Even their plan to track Gi-Hun was stupid. Also the fact that Junho withholds information about Inho being the frontman is frustrating as hell because the show could end very quick if they knew that.

For this season I’m putting “rushing” in such a broad spectrum. Not only rushing to wrap up arcs but rushing the series in general. It was on such a great pace to match season 1 but it’s 2 episodes shorter. They didn’t have to do that at all
SPOILER WARNING…………
ending on the failed coup, the capt betraying the team 30 mins before the finale and that entire island search in general not getting enough screen time, too much time spent on the voting to end the games.
Wdym by "do the games again"?
@@TheFunnyDictator Have them play games until they all die like the first season. With 456 being thr victor, I guess.

And the carousel game is already on Roblox 😂
@rimimimimimimimim4170 of course it is
The side character being fishy is a good way of putting it 😂
The reason the second game did not feel as intense is bc the theme and music made it seem more light-hearted, and like there wasn't much at stake. I mean, the players spent precious time celebrating the little wins while the timer was still ticking down... it did not feel like a "life or death" situation.
Exactly there was definitely a change in music
It also makes sense since the creators of the game probably want to keep the game going they would be less crueler and tense in that regards, despite the results remain the same.
6:46 I 100% agree with what Charlie said here, us knowing who the Frontman is. Can’t help but make the connection to Breaking Bad, it makes us feel special as an audience knowing Walter White is secretly running a meth operation, has killed people, and is lying to everyone the whole time. We know these characters actions and motivations while everyone else doesn’t.
Some cheeky dramatic irony
