Steve Priest is a true star and has never let stardom go to his head. Proof being the humble way he conducts interviews. Sharp wit too. Keep going Steve, you'll always be a star!
Had another listen to this a year or so on from Steve's sad passing. A very poignant and interesting interview. I think Stevie Stewart the keyboardist is very sincere and has a deep level of care for Steve. That is nice. Steve Priest was one of a kind. He always seemed to be so happy and taking the p*ss to an extent. He had a sense of fun, which added to the early Sweet stuff. He also had a killer voice, which added so much to Brian's lead singing. I know they all sang but Steve's timing and sync with Brian made the band (IMO) - along with Mick's strong backbeat of course and once Andy arrived, you can't knock his guitar work and falsetto bits. Andy says Mick was the best muso of the 4 - but looking at all the old videos, it's hard to ignore Brian's no-nonsense (if tortured) stage presence and Steve's light-hearted sense of fun and humour. I'm sure Steve is a massive loss for his wife and kids and I pay respects to them. Rest easy Steve - hope you're having a good catch-up with Mick and Brian.
I don't understand why there are people in the comments criticizing the keyboardist, he is clearly helping Steve. I can not help feeling some sadness, but at the same time I am glad that he has good friends who assist him and that he continues to make music.
Oh come on, those guys clearly love Steve but then he's obviously very humble, modest and sweet character so he allows them to be themselves around him I guess.
Continued peace in your heart Steve. I grew up listening to Sweet on the radio in the 70s. It’s 2019 and only now am I discovering how great and influential Sweet was, past, present, and future. Never lose passion for the music Steve. You’re amazing. Rock on! Thank you for the music.
lovely interview...love steve and all of the sweet...he is very honest....and all of the Sweet will be timeless..even the new sweets because the songs so well written..Steve leaves a legacy...only Andy remains BUT the music will live on RIP Steve..I hope Andy and his version and Steve's will do a tribute..life is short xxx his band member is so close and physically is close cos he cares about him and respects him
I remember when Steve lived in Hayes, near the fire station, his semi had purple paint and you could see his record awards on his passage wall. Always wanted to have a chat but I never had the guts to say hi.
thanks Steve into a great insight of sweet , how the band evolve . fabulous memories of a era , and it's revolution . your a icon to glamrock , love you ...

That is interesting thinking....so many people believe that the ONLY true incarnation of a band is it's original, and anything other is a tribute/cover band. They say it about KISS, Journey, etc. So let me ask truly....so to the folks who feel this way....if a hypothetical band is , say, at the top of their game and nowhere near retiring and one or even two members die (so the "original" lineup is impossible), if they get replacement members are they no longer the "band", but no a tribute band? Or does this just apply to certain bands? And it's not just you Barrie, I hear this a lot (and I am a musician myself), and always wonder about the mindset of folks who feel that way...it's like a band better never lose a member or have them quit or die, because a replacement will just result in a "tribute band"...or is it okay for some bands to do this but not others? Mick & Brian are dead, they can never obviously be in the band again...so is there just NEVER to be a band "SWEET" again? Do they just pack it up? Or if Andy & Steve managed to put differences aside and BOTH be in the same incarnation of the band would it THEN be Sweet? I seriously do not think AC/DC or Van Halen were ever "tribute bands" when they replaced members....
I really enjoyed this interview, you captured the reality of the after show. This is a true document of record and is actually a model of how an interview can be done in unplanned situations. It's good to have the background noise as that paints a picture of stuff outside the frame, and then seeing the door being closed to get more intimate. I don't know why people complain, do they want a corporate talking head bit with painted set and comfy chairs? Steve has a lot of charisma for an old geezer.
I'm so happy that Steve is still making music! Of course, I miss the old lineup terribly, but I like the new band, too! I like the way that young Stevie came over to listen to Steve speak! To hear wisdom and history directly from the source! You can tell that he really respects Priest. It makes my heart happy!

This is so fantastic! Much Love, and congratulations on 50 years! There is no band like Sweet
If you saw how he was looking a while ago he has improved a lot, he was looking sick and is starting to get healthy, has lost weight, so yeah I think he is looking great.. as for the Chin/Chapman and Bowie stuff..Lies? All 4 of them even back in the day..had those things to say about chinnichap, who although provided them some hits and success, where very reluctant to let the band take any control themselves..and Bowie, though I like him, is not the god some people make him out to be, he was a borrower of many ideas from many sources, not an original thinker..maybe he improved and took things further, but he was not the originator of everything... many bands took both musical and stage inspiration from Sweet, and some are finally starting to give them credit for it.
@@ronster1959 Looks like shit? Really? Compared to a few yrs ago he's looking great here for his age, and has improved a lot. You can't expect someone to look the same forever you know! As far as Chin and Chapman, if you had done your research, which I doubt you have, you'd realize that the band had very little say so back in the beginning of their career. Cookster cash done dude
I think one of the big Problems was the name SWEET.
For a boy, it was not cool to be a fan of a band called the Sweet. No matter how great the music was.
The name was for girls.
Nah, this was the early 70's. Androgyny was in!! There were plenty of male Bowie fans, too.
Embarrassing. You've got to know when to call it a day.
hmmm life's great debate: leave on a high or keep doing what you love...The Mortgage Tour one more time!
It is embarrassing but the guy has to pay the bills. He's busting his arse probably the only way he knows to put food on the table.
Why is this guy on the left crawling all over him ? Creepy---Joe Wannabee ?
The ravages of Rock
Steve has the aura of someone telling the same story for fifty years about an ex girlfriend who he once loved? but $ him over in the end. lol. Yeah Steve was a classic. RIP Steve
So sad to see him like that!!!!!!...He can't even walk or stand on his own...Andy is in a much better shape.........
El Micha So sad to SEE him like that :,(
he's 71 ffs..i think he's doing well and doing what he enjoysx
@Cosmik Debris and el micha..you replied on my g mail as if i'd written him off. wasn't my comment it was solvi dahl's.far from it..a fantastic bass player...a lot of the sweet knew musicians like ian gillan, ritchie blackmore and sooo competent but they both went different paths...sweet were getting heavier and had loads of talent writing their own stuff....do i think they should have done the glam so intensely...hellyeah but it was their management..once they left the clutches of chinn etc they could have had a better management imho wasn't for the failure of trying....they were very big but should have been massive and in spite of age (look at Mick Jagger etc) they should have been at high profile gigs like Live Aid..sadly Brian and Micks deaths dictated the future of the band..however they are just brilliant...x
DON'T do drink and drugs kidz
Alcohol ravaged this band! Hard core straight right outta the bottle fried liver for decades!
Steve priest legend
The keyboard player interview bomber go away sonny your not and never will be part of sweet.
