    Took me decades to really understand what I've deduced are the 2 main takeaways from this classic: "Hold onto 16 as long as you can. Changes come around real soon, make us women and men." And, of course, "Life goes on long after the thrill of living is gone." God bless 1982!

    Amazing time for music, every other song was a genuine classic, and the 80s had the greatest Top 3s of any decade.

    The BBC should have kept the Top Of The Pops logo and theme tune it used at this time. This could be one of the reasons why, in 1986 (when the format was changed), this show began its 20-year downward spiral until it was axed in 2006. But boy what a decade the eighties were to be growing up in.

    • @agfagaevart
      @agfagaevart 4 місяці тому +6

      1986 is when the music began to go downhill, so did the show with it.
      Kylie and all that crappo stuff in the charts.
      TV centre was on some prime land so guess what?
      they blamed low ratings but eastenders had those, did they axe it?
      then the beeb wanted to wash it's hands of totp and the site after the saville scandal
      and couldn't wait to be rid of it.

      Acts almost never performed live on TOTP. They experimented with it at some point in the 80s/90s, but it wasn't a success.
      It was basically a chart show, linked the the weekly UK chart, and just as you wouldn't expect acts to perform live on a radio chart countdown, so nobody wanted to hear live performance on TOTP. Kids wanted to hear what they were going to hear if they bought the record.
      There were other music shows in the UK at the time where acts performed live.
