Western Maryland 1309: Stars and Stripes to Frostburg

- On Memorial Day Weekend 2022, the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad operated their 2-6-6-2 Mallet number 1309 on four excursions to Frostburg, one each day from Friday to Monday. On Memorial Day, 1309 honored America's fallen soldiers in a fashionable way with US flags on the pilot and US flag bunting under the cab.
The locomotive slowly worked its way up the grade to Frostburg with a 6-car passenger train on a beautiful late May day. So sit back, relax, and enjoy Western Maryland 1309 represent America on its journey up to Frostburg.

Is it me or do they have 1309 coming into Frostburg much slower than 734? I remember 734 would be at full throttle as she approached the depot. I imagine it's probably a combination of things as well as the operational capabilities between both engines. Either way great to have steam back in those mountains again and who knows what the future holds. Nice vid
Thanks, Calvin! It is great to have steam back, and you’re right. Part of the reason is because they’re worried about the approach to the turntable with 1309 so they don’t want to go too far on the curve to prevent having an issue and the crews are different now
I heard that they're putting a T1 PRR 3 chime on her later this weekend.

I find it hilarious that in 2 shots I'm hidden, 4:18 Im behind the bushes at 1309 passes the farm crossing and at 5:45 I was further down the platform filming 1309 whistle its arrival
