Western Maryland 1309: Fast Freight to Frostburg

- In February of 2022, the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad hosted its first steam photo charter in over six years. It was also the first photo charter with Western Maryland 1309. After running on several test runs and Polar Express trips in November and December of 2021, the locomotive made its first runs for 2022 on the lead of a 12-car freight train. The trip was also historic since 1309's triumphant march around Helmstetter's Curve on Saturday morning was the first freight train pulled by an Articulated Steam Locomotive since 1953.
Despite a lack of snow, clear blue skies were present much of the two days, and the cold temperatures allowed for a spectacular show of steam and smoke in the fading winter in the mountains of western Maryland. So sit back, relax, and enjoy mountain railroading on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad.
This video was filmed on Saturday, February 26, 2022 and Sunday, February 27, 2022.

Love the sounds that these old steam engines make, one of the great marvels of the 18th century that not many people get to enjoy anymore. Wish I could see them with my own eyes. Brilliant video with a very immersive audio !

Thanks, Brian! To be honest, I think it might just be my mic. I use a Zoom H8. The deepness probably comes from the bass boost I add in while editing. Thanks for watching!

Nice vid! What dates was it shot? Looks like cold weather, with a good-size, billowing plume of visible exhaust steam even in apparently downhill shots like c. 17:00 when the throttle would be cracked only a little for drifting and all you hear are the rods clanking, no stack talk.

Does WMSR deliberately pack the cylinders poorly to create more steam for photographers? Because that thing is leaking BAD!
