    The old cynic in me say that if the guy who was fixing it wanted to buy it, there's not much wrong with it. My dad told me, never sell your car to the guy who's fixing it, if he doesn't fix it.

    For those of us who like to diagnose fault codes like Rob and Chris have on the Infinity we need to understand that these sensors are just reporting that they haven't received or sent a handshake. It doesn't mean the sensor/unit has a fault. The remedy for multiple sensor faults is usually an associated localised ecu.
    For anyone interested in learning how to methodically diagnose a sensor fault, I'd recommend a channel on here called Diagnose Dan. He runs a Dutch repair shop and receives vehicle that other repair shops cannot fix. Incredibly interesting and logical diagnostics.

    there is a isolation fuse under the rear seat or in the boot, completely safe to take out, which could be the high voltage fuse its throwing up a fault for. i would try that before yous send it off.

    I just want everyone to start understanding there is nothing magical with these hybrid or electirc cars. I drive an 8 year old tesla and you know what, all the DIY things i used to do on my other cars is no different on this car. Comes with same suspension components, same brakes, same steering and tyres. Yes drive unit is different. As for hybrids, I would start with checking the high voltage fuse. Check that and diosconnect it. Then check thge hybrid control unit. If everything is actually plugged in (plugged in with a click, try pulling on the connector). If everything is plughged in then reconnect the main fuse check again and only then send it to chris or any other more specialised guy. No need to be afraid of these thiungs, just dont tounch non isolated vires if you see those. Remember that these cars are meant to be driven in the rain, just like any other car

    I’m putting my money on the inverter. Porsche hybrids are the same. AC stops working, dealer says you need new inverter at a cost of £6k and all it is is a fuse inside inverter that costs £3.50. But dealerships won’t open up inverters, too lazy to undo about 12 bolts. Independent garages do it.

    Been doing A bit of research out of interest and it looks like you'll need a new HV Battery Junction box because the old Aircon pump will most likely have a short circuit and will have blown either one or both of the 30 amp fuses which then stops one of the start relays from energising . The old pump can be tested with a ohm meter to see if it's shorted. a low ohm reading would indicate a short . Looking forward to seeing follow up video on this one . Why are manufactures putting all components in expensive boxes when replaceable fuses and relays would suffice only reason I can think of is greed. Best of luck lads and I'll be sticking to my Gas guzzler for as long as possible.

    I’m a London cabby my Taxi has a similar system. It is not uncommon for the HV fuse warning come on the dashboard. In my experience, this comes on when driving in pure EV mode with the heater on at slow speed the system seems to be overwhelmed by the drive and heater. In my opinion (based on absolutely nothing), the car is being driven during the winter on lots of short trips with the heater on and the battery has just become completely depleted. I would look at quite simply trying to get some charge into the EV battery

    Something I was told of when I did some basic level EV and HV System Training was that on some cars the Service Plugs can have a tenancy to somehow be 'knocked' or 'nudged' out of their correct secured position. It is worth locating the Service Plug and just visually checking whether it is correctly fitted and/or secured in it's holder correctly. If you feel it s not then get someone who is Certified to check it themselves and re-connect it. On my EV and HV System Training I was told by an ex AA Breakdown Technician who instructs the EV Training that the earlier Toyota Prius was notorious for this when they were new as the Service Plug is/was located in a place in the boot that was prone to being 'nudged' or 'knocked' out of place and thus causing exactly the same problem you two are experiencing.

    Hi Rob and Chris my mate had one of these it was showing loads of faults. It turned out to be that A loose or corroded connector between the ECM (engine control module) and the TCM (transmission controller module) can cause erroneous data signals to be sent to these components. This can cause them to malfunction and produce abnormal symptoms in the vehicle.
    They cleaned it up and all faults disappeared. It was just covered in green corrosion from a lose connection.
    My mate fixed it and then sold it on. Great video as always. 👍👍

  • @jamiebarber4675
    @jamiebarber4675 Рік тому +5

    You were correct in assuming that the AC compressor runs off the HV system. In changing the AC compressor, I assume the installer has somehow shorted the feed to the compressor, as it is a permanent live to the unit. This would have intern popped the main battery fuse, located in the centre of the battery (being the rear seats, I believe the seat back comes out to expose it, potentially a small part of the boot load area) the recommended PPE for change a HV fuse is insulated gloves and boots, you should be okay as long as you're sensible, but changing that will allow the main engine system to operate again as it's a fail safe to prevent the battery exploding with the engine running (as that automatically starts charging it)
    Let me know when you've done it and I'll claim my complimentary pint 😜

    • @jamiebarber4675
      @jamiebarber4675 Рік тому +1

      I'd also potentially chack the HV relays. If the polarity was reversed upon ac pump install, it would have melted the relay first before the fuse popped instead of the normal way of the fuse being first to take the brunt

    Interesting stuff Gents, I agree with Chris in that it can be a sort of chain of events but not the obvious. All I can say is one of my friends has a Toyota hybrid. It starts with the electric motor and cruises up to about 20 MPH before the engine cuts in then the engine will cut below a certain speed. I will just add that the electric motor assists with the braking and in doing so charges the hybrid batteries. That's probably no help whatsoever but that is all I can give you! Good luck Rob and Chris this could be a real adventure. 👍👍

  • @WillMulder
    @WillMulder Рік тому +3

    Renault EV tech here, I suspect all those faults saying the same thing (engine/hybrid electric system) is due to your diagnostic tool not having all the information. If it's anything like the cars I work on, you really need a Nissan diagnostic tool because that will tell you which fault to look at first (as Chris said one fault can cause several systems to give red herring fault codes) and also provide guided diagnostic procedures. You're right though, some EV's use the air con to cool the battery, although that doesn't necessarily prevent starting.

    There are some problems that just don't seem to be logical or rational without a degree in computers. My old B class ( 08 ) went into 'limp home mode' intermittently. Checked on the internet ( owners forum ) and the options were ABS sensors or brake light switch. Swapped in a new brake light switch and it cleared the fault. Who'd have thought that off the bat??? There's likely an owners forum for these Infiniti's, might be worth a check out!! Great to see you branching out, but remember to be very careful. Best of luck sorting it out, it's looking tricky.👍👍

    Think Chris needs to get himself on a HV course sooner rather than later. I don't agree about staying in your lane but agree its sometimes best to ship stuff out to those with the right diag tech, skills and who might do this everyday. By this I mean with the ICE cars you fix at least you are able to do the diag and then decide whether to do it yourself or ship it out to someone more specialist, i.e. engine rebuilds, air bag module resets, key programming. With the uptake of EV's in the coming years there will be a lot coming onto the 2nd hand market with faults that lots of garages won't touch and could be easy money to be made with the right knowledge and skills.

    Maby way off but the clocks and screen look same as j11 qashqai and when they flag up with the chassis fault and other things it's related to the battery/charging system qashqai are known for it the car disables all the safety systems if it has a voltage issue

    Great video, that shows the difficulties faced in the transition to EV technology and how the the skills base of experienced and talented folks well skilled in IC powered vehicles, is challenged by the maintenance of EV technology, involving life threatening voltages. Hands off if you don't have the knowledge and training sounds like the safest option!

    Hi guys,sometimes the relay for the high voltage system can fuse together if there’s been an issue,I believe if you can find where the service plug is for the high voltage system the relays are around that area.
    Might be a good shout 👍🏻

    The high voltage fuse is normally near the HV battery. Also check the HV service plug, it also has a fuse in it. The HV battery is what starts the car so it won't start if it isn't working no matter if you have 12v supply. On the other hand, a bad 12v supply can affect the HV battery or other components which will revert to fault the car. all the best.

    It’s brave new world, I guess a lot of people are going to have to do some safely training and get certified even to do their normal jobs which are not directly related to the high voltage parts of the system

    I might be tempted to put an oscilloscope on the CAN bus and just check for normal patterns to see if a control unit somewhere was dragging the system down. If it is then you would need to unplug units or inspect the circuit diagram to find a way to trace.

    Nice looking car hope you can get to bottom of it.
    Yes you are correct in not messing with orange cables but there is a HVIL or High Voltage Inter Lock system in the low voltage side which would open the EV contactors if you did remove an orange cable without doing the safety power down of the car first, like you say your not trained on this so best to get a specialist involved. 👍👍
    HVAC system does play a part in the EV system as it uses that to cool EV battery.
    Airbag system also involved in EV system, if it see a crash signal it will open EV contactors.
    You are seeing a EV system fuse fault, this would be inside the EV battery I guess and if that fuse has blown then what blew it?
    Be interesting follow up on this to see what root cause is 🙂
    Any loose change in there Chris 🤣

    I love electronics and there are basic principles to follow. To bring me up to speed on a hybrid system, I would spend time knowing how all these components allow the engine to produce electricity to fuel the batteries. I would expect a voltage controller would come first. This will be fused. If that fuse was blown, then I would expect the controller has failed. I charge my car battery via solar. The only item in between is a charge controller which regulates 21volts input from the solar panel to 12volts.

    Although these cars have the big RUN battery, they still have an ancillary to start the engine and to power the electronics for normal running just like a conventional car. However, the ancillary battery also runs the computer management system of the engine and the electric RUN motors and could be the problem. Great video as always Guys!
