Pat, in 1985 my friend and I were in middle school, and we came to see the Reckless concert in Terre Haute, Indiana. Before the show we ran into you and Bryan in the mall at a store called The Record Bar. Bryan was buying his opening act’s record (can’t remember the name). You were eight feet tall with spiky hair and introduced yourself as Bryan’s drummer and bodyguard. 😁 You guys talked to us and we still talk about it to this day. Thank you for taking the time to make a couple of eleven year-olds feel like rock stars and lifelong fans. ❤️🥁🎸
That's the beauty of rock, indeed not too technical as progressive metal or fusion drumming but the groove and the power delivered by Pat in here force respect. His enthusiasm reminds me of Chad Smith and Brian Tichy
I think the same as you and agree with every word. No overplaying but everything is in right place and time. Love Pat's playing with Bryan on Amnesty International concert
As an 80s music fanatic, this was always one of my Top 10 songs, precisely because of the drums. I was never a drummer myself...but I airdrummed the HELL out of this song every time I heard it...and I still do, 40 years later! So awesome to hear how they came up with the different parts. The breakdown after the 2nd chorus was my favorite part, especially the pairs of bass drum hits...awesome, awesome song!
Had the pleasure of working with Pat on a few projects. I can say his energy behind the kit is unparalleled. Standing beside him I would wince every time he hit the snare. The guy can hit!
I've played this song about a million times in various cover bands throughout the years, everyone always goes crazy for it. Nice to see this breakdown from the source!!! So great.
Look how relaxed he plays. Even after all those years look how happy he is playing the song. Nice simple fills that hit you straight in the face, massive impact and drive to the song.
It’s incredible how this song have gotten stuck into people’s hearts and souls. It’s part of the structure and fabric of the universe now, at least in musical terms. You are SO lucky if you get to channel a song like this through you! So many millions of people have a memory connected to this song. And me, known it since back in the day, and STILL crank it up when it hits the radio in the car 😎
You know what, I heard that song like a million times over the years growing up and I'm now 58 years old and the drumming breakdown of that song made me appreciate it even so much more. Thank you so much. Love your channel keep up the great work.
Each and everytime I play this live, I'm instantly transformed back to sitting on the floor and watching that video on Much Music in 1985 on our 20" RCA TV.
High PAT! Just want to say that when I think of that 80s rock and Bryan Adams, I think of his vocals and guitar work and your drumming. Always thought the drumming was perfection on all that music. A drummer has a million ways to play something, a few hundred that will sound good and a handful that will sound great. You always ended up in that handful of ways. Regardless of if it came from your head or ideas of Bryan, you playing it make it great.
This song gets played everywhere, even today. An 80s song played today for "reasons". Maybe it's because I'm in Canada but this song comes up in the car, at the airport, at various retail stores, at the bar, but surprisingly not when I'm on the toilet.
As a very average guitar player of 25 years that took like 3 weeks of drum lessons… this channel is amazing even if 70% of the drumming lingo goes over my head
Love watching the level of commitment a pronputs into a song like this. A beginning drummer might have no idea exactly how much this guy is beating the heck out of this kit.
One of the greatest bands ever! That song has to be about my favorite. It had such fun energy and was great to sing, over and over. I wish I knew how many times I've listened to it.
oh my god, this song is one of my top 10, I have played it thousands of times, it is not a complex song but it is so full of good vibes and energy, thank you for bringing the genuine one and explaining everything!!! simply incredible
Thank you Drumeo for all that you do for us ,the drum community from all walks of life. I narrowly avoided death in my home due to a massive blood clot on my heart that caused everything to be blocked ..heart, all ventricles. I felt like I lost my left side waist down..no chest pain at all..the clot broke down into over a dozen smaller ones that went down my legs. I called 911 within seconds had I waited, I’d be dead. Drumeo videos like this and especially the ones with drummers who’ve heard a band out of their wheelhouse for the first time and they play their interpretations of music they’ve heard only then. Since I’m still pretty weak physically and am aways from playing drums, your videos have helped me immensely getting through this fucked up deal..THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Good luck with your recovery and regaining your strength. Glad you can still get so much enjoyment out of stuff like this, hope you can get back to your drums relatively soon 😊🥁
Nothing too high shelf here…and that’s exactly what this iconic song called for. Terrific job in ‘84 and in ‘23 Pat! And yes, the sound is superb as usual. 👍🏼
The sparse bass drum makes this drum part elevate the song! And I've seen more than a couple cover band drummers not understand the count on this fill at the end of the break, and I wish they did, because it's simple yet sublime!
Reckless, Still in my all time top ten albums, his playing is sublime. If you’re not aware bryan has put lots of top quality videos of him in royal Albert hall with pat. The videos are top notch.
I love how the drummers play that center of the symbol with such concentration and determination. I'm not a drummer but it looks like it requires high accuracy. I honestly wouldn't make this observation until this channel presented the art of drumming so amazingly. Good job Drumeo and good job drummers!
I'm not a drummer so I dont know what you call it but at 6:49, that little roll thing is badass and it looks like Pat even cracks a little smile like "oh yeah baby, I still got it".
There are quite a few more from Canada but he is up there. Too many too mention.Jerry Mercer (April Wine), Matt Frenette (Loverboy), Paul Delong (Kim Mitchell), Gil Moore (Triumph),Daniel Adair (Nickle Back),Tyler Stewart (BNL) to name just a few. Hundreds. Pat is iconic for sure, playing on some these incredible tunes.
Quite ferrocious, for what is, at its essense, a hard pop ballad. SOLID AF. I LOVE visually how this hi-hat sways perfectly as if its suspended in water with its on sonic bouyancy. Thank you for this, Pat and Drumeo!
LOVE THIS SONG!!! In more ways than one as family moved to SoCal in Jan 1968 from Michigan! But, Our Summer of '69 was our MOST FREEDOM EVER!!! We lived on Lake St in Altadena, up Lake from Pasadena! The Jr Hi was right across the street & in summer they had gym open (am thinking that's where DLR practiced his gymnastics!), they'd spin 45's in smaller room & you could buy cups of pop! Our Fav @ the time? Why suicides of course! Sis & I still reminise about that fun Summer! Both too young to drive but also got our first pair of Vans @ their Flagship store right there on Lake St! For a "whopping" $5.!!! What? HELL YEAH! ❤ Boy, those really were the days! YEAH, BABY!!! ROCK ON!!! ✌️🤘
Love that entire album. I remember i had a '68 Chevelle. Prior to starting college that year, I built a new stereo system for it. This album was the first music out if it. Great times.
Bryan opened for Rod Stewart about 15 years ago. Best concert I've ever seen People were talking afterwards about how much better Bryan was. He was phenomenal!!!
In 1985, in about 10 days apart , I got to see Deep Purple on their Perfect Strangers reunion tour in Oakland CA at the Coliseum..amazing show! Before that, my dad came home with Bryan Adams concert tickets for the Spanos center in Stockton CA. I asked dad where he got the idea about Bryan Adams tickets. Between seeing Bryan, you Pat and the rest of the band on late night tv and hearing you guys on the radio, he thought it would be a great show. Besides, my then girlfriend might have mentioned you guys to dad as she wore out a LP version of Reckless. Bryan for three hours till his voice was hoarse kept shit hoppin. Pat I think you were playing a black Yamaha 6 pc kit with sabian cymbals. I was blown away by your playing and more so when Bryan introduced you and you went off on a kickass solo. Only problem I had was I wanted to hear more. Not only am I a Bryan Adams fan but I have been a Pat Steward fan big time ever since that show. Glad you’re still driving the crew
One of the first tracks i learned as a beginning drummer in the late 80's. Still a favorote now because it may be simple from a technique standpoint but its all about the feel. Still an absolute classic.
never known anything about this band or even who this song was by. as a drummer and musician this moved me. simple drumming but dude is in the pocket I feel it in my soul
I had a chance many years ago to is down and have a beer with Pat at the Galway club in Vancouver BC when he was playing with "Rubber Biscuit" He told me then that he had an opportunity to play and to tour with Brian Adams. A few months latter this song was released. Awesome!
Always incredible drum parts for Bryan Adams! They fit the song exactly what needs to be done. I can’t think of anything better than what you’ve done! It’s perfect for the song and the sound of your drums are great as well! You’re just an awesome drummer!
Im glad you explained why you were holding the stick in your right hand like that. Kind of like traditional grip for a lefty drummer but over hand. I always thought it was weird in the video and was confused about it. ( yes I am a drummer 40 years). I am glad you were just kind of joking around.
It's funny that yesterday I saw Bryan Adams and his band performing Thought I'd Died And Gone To Heaven and was amazed by the sound of it all, but speciall the drums, and a day later this video appears on the channel...Love how Pat plays and the sound of his kit (the one using here is the same than the concert I mentioned)
I talk with that guy, he was giving a drums clinic at the music store i was teaching and still teach, here in Moncton, and he was super cool, and an excellent drummer, he also played for the band The Odds too, a good Canadian band.
Can we just have a moment to thank the sound engineer for this. Great sound on on that brass snare... Beautiful sound
I came to the comments just to talk about that snare.
These guys have it figured out.
Indeed. The saond is just amazing !
Looks like a brass snare :)
I stand corrected @@SimonB.

Was the opening act Cock Robin?
Such a simple drum part, but so effective and thunderous! The sheer amount of sound being produced by Pat here is astonishing.
That's the beauty of rock, indeed not too technical as progressive metal or fusion drumming but the groove and the power delivered by Pat in here force respect. His enthusiasm reminds me of Chad Smith and Brian Tichy
5:48 that fill was so effortlessly cool. What a great drummer.
Just proves you don't have to overplay to be great. Perfect beat and playing for the song always trumps showing off. ❤
I love his playing on Matt Good's albums as well. Would be awesome to seem him tour with MG again as well.
I think the same as you and agree with every word. No overplaying but everything is in right place and time. Love Pat's playing with Bryan on Amnesty International concert
This song is never NOT on the radio...for YEARS.
So glad you brought Pat on. Very underrated drummer. He’s such a solid time keeper.

Those drums sound amazing
That Bonham sound. Especially the snare.
Wow, such an iconic song from my teen years. It's so great to hear the actual people who did the recording tell us what was going on back then.
Look how relaxed he plays. Even after all those years look how happy he is playing the song. Nice simple fills that hit you straight in the face, massive impact and drive to the song.
Pat is the best drummer ever who also is kind and true blue Canadian. Love this guy.
It’s incredible how this song have gotten stuck into people’s hearts and souls. It’s part of the structure and fabric of the universe now, at least in musical terms. You are SO lucky if you get to channel a song like this through you! So many millions of people have a memory connected to this song. So true!!
Love this extended version. This song never has and never will get old!
You know what, I heard that song like a million times over the years growing up and I'm now 58 years old and the drumming breakdown of that song made me appreciate it even so much more.
Thank you so much.
Love your channel keep up the great work.
This old boy at the end of the song is fucking straight smashing the living balls out of the drums. Love it. So many feels
Imagine playing this song for many years, yet still enjoying it with passion and fun. It has an awesome sound and power, truly hitting hard!
He actually left Adam's band in the late 80's, he was replaced by Mickey Curry
@@babbiz29must have been early on, cause Curry is drummer on the LIVE LIVE LIVE album from '88.
By the way what happened to mickey curry? Why is he no longer with Bryan?
LOVE Pat Steward’s drumming on the single ONE NIGHT LOVE AFFAIR!
Each and everytime I play this live, I'm instantly transformed back to sitting on the floor and watching that video on Much Music in 1985 on our 20" RCA TV.
High PAT!

Such a driving track with lots of tasty nuances that fit the song perfectly. I LOVE playing it whenever someone requests it!
Pat Steward has always been and always will be one of my favourite drummers.
That snare sound! And I always love the fill coming out of the breakdown.
It is a cool fill... and quite unusual. Can be quite disorienting until the hits on the snare
One of the greatest songs ever.
This song gets played everywhere, even today. An 80s song played today for "reasons". Maybe it's because I'm in Canada but this song comes up in the car, at the airport, at various retail stores, at the bar, but surprisingly not when I'm on the toilet.
Saw Pat with Bryan and the band in concert a few months ago. What a beast of a drummer!
it's perfectly placed drumming, the feel is perfect and in the pocket
Such an iconic rock song! Very happy to finally meet the drummer behind it.
As a very average guitar player of 25 years that took like 3 weeks of drum lessons… this channel is amazing even if 70% of the drumming lingo goes over my head
This videos are so great! Pat Steward has a lot of energy in his drumming, love it
ADORO O PAT. ELE É O MÁXIMO. BEIJOS PARA A BANDA DO BRYAN ADAMS. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂💌
When I imagine what a recorded rock drum kit sounds like......this is. Whoever mixed this did an amazing job!
Love watching the level of commitment a pronputs into a song like this. A beginning drummer might have no idea exactly how much this guy is beating the heck out of this kit.

Reminds me of my teenage years. Lots of great music in the 80s.
Awesome song, awesome performance, Awesome inspiration from an awesome drummer. Drumeo is the best.😊

My god. Pure excellence. This is really one of those songs that defined an era and a generation.
Pat Stewart has the most amazing feel and tasty fills. Rocking. Reckless rocks!!!
100% iconic. Can't listen to this song with a flood of memories hitting me right in the feels, and they're all good.
I love how the drummers play that center of the symbol with such concentration and determination. I'm not a drummer but it looks like it requires high accuracy. I honestly wouldn't make this observation until this channel presented the art of drumming so amazingly. Good job Drumeo and good job drummers!
Saw Bryan Adams and this guy in September. It was one of the best shows I've ever been too!
Bryan Adams amazing music was a big part of the soundtrack to my life growing up as a teenager in Hawaii!!!
What a cool dude! Iconic song, and iconic drumming for sure.
That guy hits the sound insulation off the wall. Awesome!
GORGEOUS MAN ! THE MOST TALENTED DRUMMER IN THE WHOLE WORLD !
Thanks for the lesson, Pat!🎉
As I have always said, I love Mickey, but I also love Pat’s DRIVE
Did something happen to Mickey?
I'm not a drummer so I dont know what you call it but at 6:49, that little roll thing is badass and it looks like Pat even cracks a little smile like "oh yeah baby, I still got it".
So much joy in this song, for so long, many thanks to all the artists and, yes Drumeo 🎉
SO awesome to actually see the great Pat Steward play this iconic drum part from this classic song!!🤩
I saw him live a week ago. He has so much energy. I felt every beat in my chest 😊
That snare sounds fantastic!!
Right behind Neil Peart, the GREATEST Canadian drummer! Absolute legend.
Hundreds. The snare is about to explode! Amazing drumming

that snare sound is epic
My friend is the reporter interviewing Bryan while he's on the hammock! 😊
Pat! I’ve always loved watching u play….. a drummer that loves to drum.
I grew up listening to this song and it's awesome to hear the drummer describe the song. I love it
Iconic song, solid drumming, 5:50 was awesome! Can we appreciate that snare sound? boom!

One of the characteristics of musical longevity is coolness. Pat Steward, you, sir, are cool!
Met Pat at a drum clinic in Calgary last year. An absolute gent, top player, and ye gods was he loud :)
I had a chance many years ago to is down and have a beer with Pat at the Galway club in Vancouver BC when he was playing with "Rubber Biscuit" He told me then that he had an opportunity to play and to tour with Brian Adams. A few months latter this song was released. Awesome!
Beautiful natural, wide-open sound.
The guys behind the glass at drumeo are getting some great sounds over there!! Bravo on the sound folks.
Always incredible drum parts for Bryan Adams! They fit the song exactly what needs to be done. I can’t think of anything better than what you’ve done! It’s perfect for the song and the sound of your drums are great as well! You’re just an awesome drummer!
Love Pat! Saw him with Bryan in Paris when they were supporting Tina Turner in '85.
Im glad you explained why you were holding the stick in your right hand like that. Kind of like traditional grip for a lefty drummer but over hand. I always thought it was weird in the video and was confused about it. ( yes I am a drummer 40 years). I am glad you were just kind of joking around.

These are always the best sounding drum parts, right to the point and beautiful!
One of the greatest song of last century..super like the review..!!
Eagerly waiting for Max Weinberg's breakdown of Born in Usa..!!!
I just love how he's talking normal, uncomplicated drum feel!!
Amazing work and feel, the drums sound so powerful, while staying open and breathing!
Snare sounds amazing!!
Amazing breakdown with context, on the original drums with the original drummer. Thank you for that
I mean, seriously... Bringing the kit from the Official Video featured during the song is really cool and a privelege to see and hear
It's also the kit he uses on the Bryan tour.
what a bad ass. still drumming and looking good at his age
Pat, You ROCK brother! The drum sound is killer; especially that snare!! To die for!
Summer of Pat Steward
Can't be more rock n' roll than this!
Pat is a really great drummer. Bryan has been blessed to play with two excellent ones over the years, I dig Mickey Curry too
Wow that drum tuning & sound awesome! He’s amazing, just perfect simple rock groove!
I talk with that guy, he was giving a drums clinic at the music store i was teaching and still teach, here in Moncton, and he was super cool, and an excellent drummer, he also played for the band The Odds too, a good Canadian band.
Beautiful! Love this song, such a vibe. Drums sound incredible and performance was killer!
