There will ALWAYS be multiple Matt Freeman bass lines on any "hard to play bass line" lists. The man is a master of speed and accuracy -and his TONE!!! He's one of my favorites along with the much underrated Michael Anthony (who actually does knock down some "punkish" bass lines in some of the early VH stuff). And of course, the great Paul Simonon. Great playing, great video! Thanks for posting.
Kicked it off with Sacrifice Theory! Nice! The Crowd is one of my faves by Op Ivy for sure. The intro rocks. Always love a bit of Face to Face. It looks harder to play than it sounds! Choking Victim and Sublime always had some quality bass lines. Great video as always.
The crowd was my favorite song we covered and one of the only op ivy songs i know. I think we also did sound system? Is that op ivy? Lol. Fun shit doing the crowd bassline. I kinda just winged it but it sounded close enough.
That Music Man is beautiful, I play Fender but those Stingrays have a super recognizable tone. My friends has a Music Man Big Al and that things got an amazing tone as well. Good playing!
You are right about that, Robert. I've played a Fender P Highway One for about 11 years because the killer tone of it, especially with punk and hard rock. I passed up the purchase of a Music Man recently because I felt the tone was so close to my P and wanted something really different. I'm beginning to see I was wrong -the P and the MM are very similar yet very different. My son recently bought a MM and I think I will do so next. They are beautiful and sound great!
the best part about Failed Imagineer is the sheer beauty of that bassline, and how amazingly the bass solo fits in and makes the bridge shine even brighter. Legit one of my favorite punk songs of all time.
I mean personally I wouldn't consider "5 finger discount" a super difficult bassline simply because it's just arpeggios, so if you already practice arpeggios then it's pretty easy to learn. My biggest struggle with learning it was playing it at tempo. It took me a good while with a metronome to work it up to tempo. I guess it could be considered difficult for the speed. Great video dude.
First, you are amazing. Second, I have a hard time believing NewYork-to-Nowhere was that technical even on the recording. I’ll have to listen again carefully.
Watching hot water music live and watching Jason black hit that fill and all the other stuff he does, with no effort is something of beauty. If it's still available online, he played with senses fail for a little bit, and he does some crazy shit in their live version of bite to break skin, it's almost unfair how underated the man is
Like the Angel, Blood to Bleed, Prayer of the Refugee, Drones, Give It All, Rumors of My Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated, Alive and Well, Last Chance Blueprint. Probably a few more I forgot.
I finally got to see them in San Diego last year. Best show I've seen in a while. They have a new bass player but the original came up and played Wright and Rong with them. Would definitely love to see more Cigar on this channel though!

Mike Herrera is a freakin fantastic bassist. Life In General had some my favorite bass lines
you can tell who took jazz band in highschool in this bassline style

Happy to see you playing Hot Water Music, one of my favorite bands! Great vídeo
Agreed, very underrated band.
There's a bass solo in a Green Day song called Dirty Rotten Bastards which is harder than Stuck With Me
Kicked it off with Sacrifice Theory! Nice!

@@danm2084 Hey bro that's awesome. Yeah, Sound System is another banger by Op Ivy! What's your band called?

That Sterling has killer tone, just as good as it's big brother stingray

Mike Herrera and MXPX all day, baby! Hell yeah! Great video once again!
I'm not much of a pop-punk lover, but as a bassist i still listen to learn about combining melody and groove. Pop-punk bass is special in that regard
Ahhh, more Mike Herrera.
CIGARRRRRRRR!! Watching them live was on another level, he plays it faster and with his fingers!!! :O
First, you are amazing. Second, I have a hard time believing NewYork-to-Nowhere was that technical even on the recording. I’ll have to listen again carefully.
Lush bass and lush bass tone, seriously impressive sound

Should do Steamed Hams but it’s a bass line
I love that Rufio is featured on both of these!
In other words, Matt Freeman GOAT
Haha Right?
This was really cool. I'd really like to see you try to do some AFI and nerve agents. Their basslines always break my brain a bit
@@SugarpillProd oh my god! as if I missed that! so sorry. I do love that you mentioned Hot Water Music in this. their basslines are so good
You're a total natural bass player. Your timing is perfect every time. Do you have any tutorial videos?
Cigar will forever be the most underrated Skate Punk band ever. And he plays without a pick. Insane.
For sure, they're a great a band. Their newest album was killer too!
@@SugarpillProd It's amazing! We only had to wait like 10 years too! hahaha!
@@GDT1124 Worth it, haha!
All good bands! Keep it up man! I love your videos!
Best Joe Principe from Rise Against bass lines?
Like the angel

@@guitaristzag8787 Also, 100 Proof from back when he was in the band 88 Fingers Louie!
BodaciousWickerman fuck yeah 88s better
100 proof, Endgame, drones, escape artists, ready to fall, like the angel... the end of survive is pretty cool
Check out the bass line from Wrong Way Kids by Bad Religion. Didn't notice how sick it is until I saw a live video
Way to step it up dude, smashed it!
There it is! CIGAR! 🤘🏽
Was about to look for new bass lately, this video is a good starting point
Something you can play at music store
@@reallybadbass4525
Definitely!
Good shit dude... let's keep the punk rock rollin!
Sublime - Ebin 🎸💓
You have great ideas for videos
How about a bass line from "Time Again" one of these videos?
Please do A camouflage guitar and /or bass cover for Camouflage by the front bottoms please
🎵"...cast out, buried in a hole
struck down, forcing me to fall
destroyed, giving up the fight
well, I know I'm not alright..."🎵🎸🤘🏻
Check out Hot Water Music - Rock Singer. Jason Black is an animal.
Nice bass and nice video bro
Mr charisma-frenzal rhomb
Anyone know the model of that bass. Obviously it's sterling, but that exact model, it's gorgeous. Can't find it anywhere
I think its just a Ray34
yo man i think you missed a note in detroit. like theres one thats hard to hear at the end of the riff
hot water music is the fucking best
You should include Mercy me by Alkaline trio
Gian Palomares or the intro to Armageddon
Scott Schifflet!
you have your band?
hunter burgan is MEGA underrated
no means no - oh no ! bruno !
Wont Stay Late by 88 Fingers Louie
There's a less than jake fan if I've ever seen one
They freakingly likely belong to somewhat tricky
You should find an entire list of punk songs a whole step down.
There's a lot! Though it's usually more to do with being better for the singers range, rather than the sound itself.
Cigar rules!!!
Dude thanks for showing a cigar song. They are so incredibly talented and the bass player is nuts. ♥╣[-_-]╠♥

Kinda took the easy way out with NOFX but hey, appreciate it nonetheless :pp
Titel: Even Harder To Play Punk Bass Lines
*Laughing in Chris Wolstenholme*
Ha, and someone says that punk rock is primitive music ....
How you gonna have Rancid and the song is not white knuckle ride? Lol
Based on your t-shirts, you were born in 1978. I presume?
Waaaay after, haha.
I remember when Green Day was a real punk band
I can't believe he put a HWM song on here. Not really pop punk
It's not a pop punk list though?
