  • As a UA-cam sensation with millions of views online, Postmodern Jukebox takes to the TEDxFoggyBottom stage to share, and create, some catchy tunes.
The pop hits of today receive a vintage makeover, courtesy of viral UA-cam band, Postmodern Jukebox. Led by Scott Bradlee (Sleep No More, Bioshock Infinite) and featuring charismatic chanteuse Robyn Adele Anderson, Postmodern Jukebox brings Jazz Age and Old Hollywood sensibilities to today's most popular artists by transforming their hits into swing, hot jazz, ragtime, and doo wop. Since their inception in February of 2013, they've amassed over 27 million views on UA-cam, spent several weeks on the Billboard Jazz charts, and landed a featured performance on ABC's Good Morning America. As one young viewer correctly noted, "This is the only band I enjoy that my grandparents also enjoy."

I think Robyn is awesome, and beautiful the way she dresses in the 1940's style. It really suits her, and her voice. BTW, I have no idea why this group is not a world famous no. 1 band! Better then all the crap in the top 10.

True. They do take tunes out of their original genres and put them into retro genres. Sometimes their covers actually sound much better than the originals.

From a person that sings, I often thought it was melody and how they are arrange that shows the time and style. This group is very talented... I first heard of them from the first song by lorde sung by the crown called ROYALS.

In the early videos they started a sort of running visual gag; they hid the drummer behind other artists. Sometimes, during a part where there was no drum, he's peek out behind the cellist, the piano, etc. It hasn't been there in the more recent videos (probably because the artists want some face-time).

I am a video producer. I am available. I would not go to the trouble to mention this, except this video has cameras in bad places, the cameras are framed poorly, always on the wrong thing at the wrong angle, and the most intriguing performer, the singer, featured prominently in the act, was never shown in a frontal closeup. NEVER.

Again, I am available to produce your video, and I don't torture my viewers.

minivanjack I'm not a videographer or a cinematographer or whatever, but thanks for mentioning, i didn't think about it until half way through the video, but it was improbably terrible. Showing speaker's BUTT while he's speaking to the audience, delivering his closing sentences, and the audience is simply waiting for him to finish his thought, not reacting in any way... i couldn't think of a way to do it any worse if they tried.

Sam Chua "done live" and "on video" are mutually exclusive. I was referring to the quality of the video. If they use volunteer video producers it is basically an exercise of abuse of their viewers, as this video demonstrates.

Dear TEDx: Is it possible that the original video from the cameras could be remixed??? Just about 3 or 4 of the most egregious minutes would make this *so* much more worthwhile. PMJ is such a talented set of musicians, what's currently posted does them a disservice.

There should be a button like "100xlike" or "1000xlike" because when you just put a humble mark that you liked it it does mean nothing, something like "special star" to assess really remarkable content. But, yes, the camera is blurry. Anyway, the content itself is perfect. They are artists and singing a phone messages was... Creative, impressive and perfect.
