She was avid slot racer (for those who remember what slot racing is). I met her at an outdoor slot racing track, hot dog stand, and hobby store called The Kosher Puppy. A truly gracious woman, and great songwriter. I am still thrilled to have met her, when I was a teenager...
Her birth name was Sharon Lee Myers, in Hazel, KY on Aug. 21, 1941. She will then be 76! She was 22 in this video clip. She was one of the first female singer-songwriters of the rock 'n' roll period. She is best known as the singer of "What the World Needs Now Is Love" and "Put a Little Love in Your Heart", and as the composer of "When You Walk in the Room" and "Bette Davis Eyes", which were hits for The Searchers and Kim Carnes, respectively.
This woman had to be one of the 10 most BEAUTIFUL Female Singers of All Time,. I have her: Jackie DeShannon and Olivia Newton John as the most beautiful female singers EVER!!
On this day in 1964 {April 25th} Jackie DeShannon performed "Oh Boy" on the ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program 'American Bandstand'... "Oh Boy" was track nine from her 'Breakin' It Up On The Beatles Tour' album; two other tracks from the album made the Top 100, "Needles and Pins" {at #84} and "When You Walk In The room" {at #99}... Her next charted record would be "What The World Needs Need Is Now Love", it would peak at #7 {for 2 weeks}... Ms. DeShannon, born Sharon Lee Myers, will celebrate her 76th birthday this coming August 21st {2017}...
"When do you write your songs?" "Sometimes in the daytime and sometimes in the nighttime" This could be the greatest ever answer to a stupid music-related question! Oh Jackie! How I love you with your flashlight eyes and migraine eyebrows!
Great Sixties icon and talent. She toured with the Beatles. She dated Elvis! She had that great style energy and genuine southern charm. Worked with Jimy Page, his girlfriend, Randy Newman and Burt Bacharach. Would have loved to read her autobiography!
I don't think this clip does her justice. I think her talent really came through when she sang "Needles and Pins" outdoors in front of a live audience. in 1963
"[The Beatles' publisher] …sent a telegram to 'please send some material over.'" I'd guess the publisher (Dick James) made that request on his own initiative, in line with the infamous "How Do You Do It" effort, not imagining that Messrs. Lennon and McCartney could be as prolific as they were. (And I'd be curious to know what songs she sent over.)
Nowadays, the men's comments on how lovely she looked would be considered sexual harassment. So crazy! I remember when compliments were welcome. I certainly enjoyed looking & feeling attractive! 😁

This is rather embarrassing. Jackie is being tarted out to perform a Buddy Holley cover when in fact she was one of the most gifted songwriters and performers ever.
She was gifted but should have left this song to Buddy... I suppose that it was okay then to compliment a woman without being charged with making warranted advances and pilloried.
It was even worse in country. On the Opry, didn't matter how good a woman singer was- the presenter would just say she was real pretty, whether she was or not.
@@stewartfenton7660 Oh God please ignore that that was my young corny self that made that comment. I apologize for that when I was younger I attended to make a bunch of corny comments like that.

Unbelievable!
More fun and talent here in one person than all of today's singers combined-
Thanks for a video that can't be improved.

She is so peppy and sexy rocking the beauty
This makes me nostalgic... and I wasn’t even born back then 😂😭
Jackie was a goddess among men, the greatest songwriter and singer ever

Love me some Jackie DeShannon.
Wow. what a sweetheart. And what a talent.
A sweet, beautiful Kentucky woman (she's from Hazel)! How could you not love her?
I believe it's physically impossible.
Timeless Beauty
back when it was cool to be clean
Totally!
Ha!
She lights it up!
This was one of my requests, thanks for posting it! An exciting performance of a great Buddy Holly song.
The use of a voice chamber enhanced many performers.
But she didn't really need it....
Great song.
❤️❤️❤️Jackie❤️❤️❤️
Very good!!
jackie was on a wild wild west episode in 66 or 67 with robert conrad
All the charm and spontaneity of someone who is completely on top of what they're doing. And it radiates!

"Fast."

Awesome
LOVE THE HAIR...
Classy well raised Southern girl working her ass off to be a success!
IMDB says this episode was February 8, 1964, with Dick and Dee Dee, the first California episode.

I think I read that Jackie and John Lennon had a fling....
Jackie turned into 79 in 2020
28042020 tue After Jackie singing - Nope no Covid -19 in my 🏠 house.
Yes, you go girl..ha, ha
0:52 she wasn't supposed to say she likes that kind of music!

didn't buddy holly do this song?
Joe Ordonez 👍
He wrote it
- yes - & then he got killed in a plane crash -
@@MeMeDaVinci Actually Buddy didn't. It was by Sonny West, Bill Tilghman and Norman Petty.

She’s prettier than Buddy Holly 🤭
true.
But he had better legs.
Buddy Holly's hit in a not too good version! Look for Mud's version which is very good!
I thought this was a serious discussion.
Sort of a Beatles version.
What show is this? what's the name of the host?
Dick Clark
American Bandstand
Dick Clark
Not bad. But when you've seen Holly doing it live on stage, everything else is an 'also ran'.
Poor Buddy...
The young man to the left of Dick Clark subtle doesn't agree that she's all that good looking.
She'd better went into Country.
At what age did she start singing
At age 3, she was on stage singing.
(Saw that in an interview she gave.)
Sounds like Gary U.S. Bonds
22-year old women today look like children.
Was it only me or was she not lip syncing to her song very well?
violencia rivas
Cute chicks, out there hairdos.

Not by Buddy. He didn't write it. By Sonny West, Bill Tilghman and Norman Petty.
