Jackie DeShannon stated in a UA-cam interview that she wrote the song Walk On By which has been attributed to the Brill Building Musical Arts team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David. DeShannon was not Bacharach's choice to sing What The World Needs Now but David insisted she should be offered the opportunity to record the song since she gave Bacharach/David full credit to the song Walk On By. One of the very first singer-songwriters of the modern era, DeShannon deserves every accolade for her exquisite body of work in film, in live-performances and recording. She is still performing live at the age of 82.
NOBODY ! has ever sung this song as well as Jackie has , Many have tried and failed to bring the honesty to it , She is by far and away the best , it's just not possible to improve x
Pure style, class and grace from songwriters orchestra and singer(Also sound engineering)Something has gone horribly wrong with singers for the last decade! Diabolical diction and enunciation to the point the lyrics are irrelevant because they are mumbled and the vocals are almost Robotic sounding with all the Lazy effects used to mask poor singers.
I don't know how often they filmed artists or bands recording even though others like this do exist. There's one of The Animals recording " When I Was Young." Also the recording session for Eddy Arnold's "Make The Word Go Away" was filmed though I only saw it on some PBS special and haven't been able to find it online so far.
I initially thought that this was the live studio take but a few others have opined that it is not. JDS would likely have been wearing headphones. This is probably a clever promotional tape. The reason it appears so real is that JDS was so good at this type of stuff. She likely was just singing along to the already recorded final take. If you watch other tapes of her, she is flawless in lip synching performances.
Can you believe the beauty and grace of a 1960s woman...only thing I can say was truly great in my life...the women of that era...incredible...actually indescribable!👩🎨🎵
@@mosesservellon267 Dionne would have ruined this tune. When I hear this, I imagine I'm being serenaded by a warm, nice, pretty woman with the capacity to love spontaneously. I'm am NOT thinking about a cold, boring, self conscious, asexual Dionne Warrick. Sorry
What a beautiful song, and the woman singing it. Her voice is charged up with the emotion of the song, and then at the end she pretends to be the tuba playing the outro, and does the cutest little dance moves, and right at the end, she looks like she’s saying ‘was that good enough?’ Well, yes. It was. I’ve always loved Dionne Warwick singing Bacharach, but here I think Jackie Deshannon is right up there with her. Also, as someone else said, 60s women were something else.
I have always loved this song. I did not know that this beautiful woman, Jackie DeShannon, was "beautiful to the bone". The entire duration of the song she exudes LOVE!
It was such a pretty song,,oh my reminds me when I was growing up in the 60s,,nice clean beautiful voice by Jackie DeShannon,,memories So great growing up thru the 60s and 70s,,what a absolute time to be there..I'm 64 now,,what an innocent Era back then..♥️♥️👍😁
Wow! Wow! Wow! A flashback to the pure heart of 1965! Listen to this sermon and watched her radiant joy and feel the hope for today seep back into your being. Spread the joy!
My late sister-in-law, who had a beautiful, crystalline mezzo voice, sang this at our wedding on June 7, 1969. It was one of the highlights of the day. Love ya and miss ya, Gayle.
I knew this song from childhood. It made me smile and truly warmed my heart then as it does now. Finally seeing a visual to it makes me cry. The timeless message and striving sincerity in the performance haunts me. I could and would listen to this forever. Thank you Burt, Jackie, and everyone else. The world needs more love. It really is the only thing we need.
When you take into account the music, the lyrics, the arrangement, the performance, the backing vocals and the positive message, this may actually be the greatest song of all time...
If your reading this. Jackie. Deshannon I absolutely love your music!❤🎤🎵This world sure could use love sweet love🌍🌎🌏 and I love the background singers!❤🎤
Love this song by Jackie! Bless you for this beautiful song! Brings back so memories from my teenage years. I'm 74 years old and love our baby boomer music! ❤️❤️❤️
This song reminds me when I was a kid,,I grew up the sixties,,this was a big hit,,to hear this angelic voice of Jackie,,so good innocent times,,when we used to sit with the neighborhood kids and talk about fun things and play late outside especially hiding go seek,,eat ice cream on the grass with not a worry in the world when it was peaceful and not so violent like now..
The world was a different place back then. I will always be thankful that this was also my time. This has always been one of my favorite songs. I even had them play this at my daughter's wedding (as father, they had to allow it, and I think everyone appreciated it -- especially me while I danced with my daughter --- a final farewell while she began moving on to her new life). The world has changed, we are all older now and I have three wonderful grandkids, and this timeless song. Thanks for finding Jackie, as she sang this song live, so long ago, it seems like yesterday.
Unbelievable. The actual recording of this....Perfect..Two years before 'The Summer Of Love' Jackie had the message..It doesn't get much hipper than that..Does it? frankny65yroldwhitekid rockfan

A gift from God! Talented, great looking, strong, smart and heart filled with touching words! Thank you Jackie for sharing your talents with us! She supported our troops as well. Nice Marine Hat!
Significant singers have something extraordinary. For deShannon it's the nervy edge to her voice which marks it out from the crowd of other talent. Also, she , like all really good artists , it is always about the song & it's delivery, as in the case of classical singers.
Jackie Deshannon's version is the best! Another Burt Bacharach master piece! This isn't just a song, it's a prayer, very much valid in our troubled time. Lord, we need love!
Classic song from a classic time in music. Brilliant stuff. And the stuff that was considered throwaway pop back then is world class compared to the stuff that's out there today. As Mr. JD Clampett would say, "Pitiful, pitiful".
I really feel this wonderful masterpiece 🙏 I appreciate 1960s music 👍 born 1980s 1960s has magic and soul thank you for sharing hello from Beverly Hills California

This is what the radio once offered: a real song sung by a real singer.
Absolutely right my friend.
With real progressions and changes, and epic harmonies. Can listen to this for days.

An uncanny knack for knowing singer/song marriage.
Some dispute on the song "Pillow Talk".. too.
One of the best songs ever I listen to it most days and have done so since the 1960s❤
Beautiful really.............
This song. ITS A PRAYER.
....LORD we don't need.....
what the world needs now....
Our world needs this song right now.
It was an appropriate song for the times in 1965 and now in 2024.

nope. It was written FOR dionne warwick and quite honestly she puts way more soul into it.
