Jackie DeShannon has come a very long way since growing up in Hazel, Kentucky, about 14 miles from Paris, Tennessee. To me, her charm and charisma emanate from the spirit of a seeker as a woman of inspired & articulate originality and intelligence who is engaged deeply in the world around her. Thank you, Jackie for sharing your voice and your extraordinary gifts!
    Well done interview, Mr. Paulson!

The fact that she achieved what she did, coming up in an industry that was unwelcoming to put it mildly, is a testament to her talent, her persistence, and her love of music. An exemplary life and career.

What the World needs now... has always been one of my favorite songs. Her recollection of the Beatles first US tour was fun. I attended the event at City Park Stadium in New Orleans in September with around 12,000 other fans. It was as she remembered, only the Beatles mattered, but I'm glad to know I saw Jackie live that night.

What a level, wise and brave person. Even as a kid I recall this beautiful woman with this unique and emotion filled voice singing my favourite song. You can bet she is tough...she was a trailblazer and starting out in a industry designed for and controlled by guys but here she is...still radiant

Great interview. Jackie DeShannon was an inspiration to me back in the 60’s. Her songs spoke to my gut. Her music helped me want to put more than just a little love in my heart, and her cover of, what the world needs now is love, has haunted me ever since with the sad lack of it. That song is one of the most influential songs of my life.

I knew her mother and father. They were friends of ours that we went camping with. Her mom was a great cook and story teller. Very kind and very deeply religious woman. I miss grandma Meyers and James Erwin. They were a great influence in my youth. I was blessed to have known them.

I love this girl, I bought her singles and albums in the 60s and to the present day.To my deep regret I have never seen her perform live, despite her many visits to the UK, mainly due to lack of promotion. I'm in my 70s now and I still look for her albums. Carry on doing what you're doing Jackie xxxx

Was fortunate enough to see her perform solo in the early 1970s at the Cellar Door, a small club in the Georgetown section of Washington, D.C. Her set lasted about an hour. She did her famous songs and selected covers of material by others. Only regret is I neglected to bring my camera. Others who I was lucky to see there included Patti Smith, Garland Jeffries, Emmylou Harris, and Neil Young. Those were great days.

What the World Needs Now is immortal. For those of us blessed enough to be there when the song first hit it so big, it brings memories of a time in space when fairy dust was dropped upon the young..when dreams were big dreams, nothing was impossible. The music, fashion, culture..literally everything..exploded into a new Rennaisance period, an era of dreams that were not impossible to attain, but expected. There will NEVER be a time like it. The song, now needed more than ever, serves as the ultimate feeling of the times...love is all you need, love is everything.

I was a grade-school'er during her early popular years on the radio. I had a crush on that voice and remember the name, but as a kid, didn't make the connection and was really only interested in the rock bands of the day. And sadly, like so many other artists of that period, we often had no idea who did what or probably even cared. I may have seen her on one of the tv music shows, (I watched most of them), but don't remember. And now, years later looking back, it's like rediscovering something amazing for the first time. Yeah, would've been nice knowing,... but finding a gem that was there all along,.... is still finding a gem. Amazing lady and an amazing song writer. Songs that are well-crafted and sound great no matter who does them and stand the test of time. That's greatness to me. Cheers.

Copied this from another post, since no info about Jackie here:
The extremely talented, prolific and versatile Jackie DeShannon was one
of the first successful female singer/songwriters to hit the rock and
pop music scene back in the 60s. DeShannon has done music in such
diverse genres as folk, orchestral pop, gospel, country and rock'n'roll.
Jackie was born as Sharon Lee Myers on August 21, 1944 in Hazel,
Kentucky to show business parents Sandra Jean and James Erwin Myers. By
age six, DeShannon was singing country music on the radio and, at age
eleven, she was hosting her own radio show. In 1957, Jackie recorded a
rollicking tribute to her musical idol, Buddy Holly, called "Buddy".
Jackie befriended rockabilly singer Eddie Cochran, who convinced her to
move to California. DeShannon formed a songwriting partnership with
Cochran's girlfriend, Sharon Sheeley; they wrote "Dum Dum" for Brenda
Lee and "Breakaway" for Irma Thomas. The British rock group, The
Searchers, scored big hits with their covers of DeShannon's "Needles and
Pins" and "When You Walk in the Room". Jackie performed with The
Beatles during their first US tour. In the fall of 1964, DeShannon went
to London, England and recorded four songs with Jimmy Page which
included the rousing "Don't Turn Your Back on Me". DeShannon wrote the
hit song "Come and Stay With Me" for Marianne Faithfull. Jackie
collaborated with Randy Newman on such songs as "Hold Your Head High"
and "Did He Call Today Mama". DeShannon scored her first major
breakthrough hit with "What the World Needs Now Is Love"; this song was
written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Jackie had another substantial
success with "Put A Little Love in Your Heart". Among the artists who
have done covers of DeShannon's songs are Tracey Ullman, Annie Lennox
and Al Green (they did a duet on "Put A Little Love in Your Heart"),
Stevie Nicks, Dolly Parton, Pam Tillis, and Tom Petty and The
Heartbreakers. Kim Carnes scored a massive Number One hit with "Bette
Davis Eyes", which Jackie co-wrote with Donna Weiss. DeShannon's songs
have been featured on the soundtracks for such movies as Bob & Carol
    & Ted & Alice (1969), Who'll Stop the Rain (1978), "In
Country," Forrest Gump (1994), My Best Friend's Wedding (1997) and RV
(2006). Jackie made a brief foray into acting in the mid 60s; she
appeared in the films Surf Party (1964), Intimacy (1966) and C'mon,
Let's Live a Little (1967). Moreover, DeShannon made guest appearances
on the TV shows "The Virginian" (1962), "The Wild Wild West" (1965), "My
Three Sons" (1960) and "The Name of the Game" (1968). DeShannon is
married to singer/songwriter and film music composer Randy Edelman.
Jackie was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame on June 17, 2010.

Jackie DeShannon was more talented than the Boring Most Over Rated Band ever The Beetles. As the Famous Lines in the Clash song London Calling ............ Phony Beetle Mania has Bitten the Dust
