I can't wait to lose this weight Dr Suz because you're correct. I'm taking Mounjaro 2.5 mg right now just started because the weight wouldn't budge, I have a multitude of health especially metabolic, depression and anxiety, fibromyalgia, menopause, lung disease and sleep apnea which precipitated weight gain and inflammation, and recent deaths in my family ( mom and sister) which precipitated poor food choices as well.
That's a lot to handle, and no doubt overwhelming stress makes it harder to make healthy decisions and receive the benefits. I hope it helps you gain the confidence along with lifestyle changes that empower (and don't further overwhelm) you to find vitality.
I know you believe you have figured out the answers to obesity. You realize everything you are saying has been recommended as nauseum right? If it was the answer, it would be working. Perhaps there is a hunger drive mechanism that is greater than willpower and good choices at play. Eat right and exercise only works in theory, and it only works for people who have never been overweight before. Once overweight there is a new set point that you are not going to win against. Think deeper. No one needs to hear make better food choices and drink water one more time.
Yes! You are absolutely right- it IS so much more than just diet and exercise, and yes, we will need many deep thinkers to solve this multifactorial issue. The obesogenic environment, including the sad state of what has become of our food ,in addition to the other cultural "norms"( we as a nation are sedentary, sleep deprived, tech addicted, overstressed, and lonely) all contribute to WHY our overweight/obesity/Metabolic impairment stats have escalated as they have. And you are right, once overweight, there is a new set point. And yes, there are some who will need more invasive and extensive measures to address their health. I would never suggest I have it all figured out, nor have I ever stated this is a willpower issue. The nature of why we eat what we do is complex, involves reward centers, addictions, nutrient imbalances, hormone imbalances and so much more. This is why we need to all be part of the solution and unite around positive change that addresses the root drivers AND the urgent needs. Wouldn't it be slightly easier for everyone if we shifted our exposure and environment to one that nudges nourishing food and movement, community support, among other things? It's not that it doesn't work. It's that we are not doing it. Thank you for writing, and I hope we can all unite to improve the health destiny of the Western world.
Bottom line...you have to want to lose weight to lose weight. If you have knowledge of what foods make you gain weight yet you still eat/drink them...bad things can be expected. I've lost over 130 pounds over many many years. It's a struggle. But I'm at the point where I refuse to gain the weight back. And regarding process food addiction...I think we eat more processed food because it's low fiber and not filling. Gives you high glucose spikes and then plummets. This makes you hungry. And we eat more. You eat a pancake breakfast and 90 minutes later you're looking for something else to eat...that's not addiction.
This is quite informative! Thank you so much
