Not a fan of Netflix's Avatar, but I do think the hate it gets is overblown, and it's leagues better than the M. Night Shyamalan movie, though that's a very low bar.
25:59 Wouldn't it be hilarious if, during the Ember Island Players episode, they played the M. Night Shyamalan film, during the play (which would make it a screening but still that would be something else.)

But I got to give this version credit, trying to make it not too silly.

I tried watching the new show. It’s not as bad as the movie. The casting was good, the costumes were good, but the constant exposition was grating. And I ended up goin back and rewatching the original series before it even got to the time jump. To me, it adds to the idea that cartoons aren’t that serious, and it needs a live action reboot to come off as more mature, yet in doing so, it makes the cartoon look more mature I mean seeing Aang’s reaction to seeing Gyatzo’s body still makes me tear up

30:24 Hey Erod, I believe people are referring to her role in the FX series Legion, a marvel show about mutants that doesn't mainly involve the X-Men, which is a great show that i highly recommend if you like great action, fascinating sci-fi concepts, and really freaky mutant stuff. Be aware, there is a lot of drama about mental health and the toll psychic powers can take on someone, so if stories about mental issues affect you negatively, take caution, although it is very well done. It's only 3 seasons, 10 episodes each at about an hour an episode, so check it out whenever you get the chance. Have a great day!

To me, Netflix’s Avatar is a noble effort of adapting the cartoon. It’s definitely not as good as the original series or even as good as live action One Piece but it’s much better than the Shamalyan film.

I did like the villain journey that azula she going on and also how is scheming behind the scenes with commander zhao the problem I have this version azula is that is not crazy enough when see azula in this show I don’t see azula I see a girl doing cosplay I’m guessing they saving her psychopathic nature for season 2&3

I liked it just fine, never expect it to be as good as the original obviously but the cast and crew worked their a$$es off to bring us a show that captures the heart of the original, and I at least hoped people would give it a shot liked they did One piece live action instead of making it the next Wish or Quantumania😢

I'm glad i gave the netflisk series a chance, cause it is not as bad as people say it is. I love the casting, the effects, the set, and costumes and the bendjng/fighting. But at the same time, the editing could use some work, the idea of combining episodes into 1 is ridiculous andsome of the writing is bad. an example is they put so much focus on the comet in the first epsiodes without giving us a mystert on how powerful it is with the fire benders. Even with these problems, i would still recommend the netflisk series, and then watch the animated series and give them chance to voice an honest opinion.

The Netflix Avatar not being a travesty is itself a bit frustrating because its easier to just hate on something than to feel mildly disappointed but intrigued in some parts. Like, if it gets the show more fans, cool. But I doubt I'll ever rewatch it

Okay, I'll give it a chance once I have access to Netflix again.
I should note that I was hoping to hear a Danny Phantom honest review being announced at the end since it's getting some interest recently with a graphic novel continuation and a live action movie in development. But if you're not doing it due some stuff about the creator, that's okay.

This is a good nuanced review. I may check out the live-action series after all. I knew about the more explicit violence and that the makers wanted to make it more like Game of Thrones. This scared me off. Nothing against violence in a show, but I dislike death and violence particularly SA that are only there for sheer shock value.
Live action and animation are different mediums so changes need to be made. Moreover, each adaptation needs to add its own thing. It would be boring and pointless if the live-action told the story in the exact same way.

I think it's an important distinction to make between opinions, and the way those opinions are presented.
How's that old chestnut go? It's okay to not like things, just don't be a dick about it.
Didn't like LA-ATLA? Great! Let's hear a thoughtful opinion on what you think didn't work well, that's the kind of thing that makes discussions happen!
Didn't see it because you aren't a fan of remakes, and don't see the point? That's great! But it's pretty hard to have thoughtful opinions about something you haven't seen, so you're really limiting your ability to engage with the discussion in a meaningful way. Which is entirely okay, and not at all unreasonable to do - just because someone makes a thing doesn't mean everyone has to go watch it and form an opinion after all... but at that point, it's well worth making sure your context is clear. Maybe your opinion on remakes/adaptations is justified, maybe it isn't; maybe someone disagreeing with that opinion can entice you to change your mind, maybe they won't. At the end of the day, it's a choice whether to invest your time and interest in something, and you have to make that choice somehow, after all.
Liked it? Great! Liked some of the parts that some of the people that didn't like it specifically didn't like? Great! That's bound to be an interesting discussion. :)
Point is, ultimately... Good Idea: Using differences of opinion to spur conversations about media. Bad Idea: Using differences of opinion to *shut down* conversations about media.
And no, shutting down someone who is, themselves, trying to shut down the conversation is not the same thing.

7:00 Or just show how good the original was by showing... the original. Godfather and other classics didn't need reinterpretations. Instead of building upon a story, the corporate cancer is able only of regurgitating classics. The thing that soiled Avatar's live action version for me is the incessant 'we'll fix problematic original for the modern audiences, it's not for racists and sexists anymore' talk. When I hear that kind of dog whistling and gaslighting I stay away from the adaptation. That said, not all adaptations Netflix did do I dislike, One Piece is actually pretty good, and for normies a lot easier way to dive into Oda's world than reading all the mangas or watching all of the 1000+ episodes.

Some of my LEAST favorite things fandoms say
    Why did they make this?
    No One Asked for this?
    This kills my childhood
    This is a remake?
This is the end / doom / death of the company they will neve recover
I fell a sleep watching it
its disrespectful to the actors and no one ahs the right
    its unoriginal
its the same story that's been done before
it makes the ending of the last movie p[ointless
it was bad because of the age, gender, color sexuality , build etc. of the actor
the fact the race etc was changed doesn't matter those people deserve to be out of work we got the best actor for the job
we need to be paid more
it was a tax write off
canceling it was only about race etc
it looks fake, it never works, this other effect is better
    according to the charts
its ok to be a jerk if you're a child
    too pandering too much bait
    nightmare fuel
    this is PG?
    This is Disney?
just some of the lines critics say that I am sick of hearing over and over

Its trash and i love the original i am not hater... and your wrong about how to keep it alive... your critic mindset is showing adoptions that cut so much from the source do not keep something alive... this show will not bring back interest to the original it will only leave the next generation thinking this is what grandpa was talking about... this show cuts too much important character development and story out unlike one peice and thats where the hate is coming from... if they had stayed true to all parts of the story i might have agreed but this show deserves the hate....

I don't really get the hate for the Schmayalamalanan's version of Avatar. In my opinion, the twist at the end that Aang was actually a leukemia patient named Timmy and that everyone was just an actor that Timmy's family hired to reenact his favorite show and inspire him with the courage to go through the bone marrow transplant and finish his fight against cancer, to the point where even the known Hollywood actor Dev Patel signed up to play the part of Zuko pro bono, really tied the whole film together. I was hating on Schmoyolamanan the entire film through, but when the twist was revealed, it was a really powerful scene. Too many people walk out of the theatre these days. Shamalamamamananamanan is an underrated genius of our time

I love how you end every video by asking people to be respectful of others' opinions, yet you start off the videos with a long rant about how other peoples' opinions are "poopy" and that they should shut up. Maybe take some of your own advice?
I'm a huge Avatar fan and I have no interest in this remake. There's just no way it could be as good as the animated one with a shorter runtime and without all the gorgeously animated fight scenes and hilarious exaggerated expressions (which made up a good chunk of the humor of the original). Sorry, but expecting this to have the same humor and heart as the original is just as silly as complaining that the characters don't act exactly the same as the animated ones. Some things can simply only be done in animation. And I disagree that the only way to get new generations interested in good media is to show them a mediocre remake first. That's just backwards thinking, and recommendations should be enough. If it does bring new fans to the community, great, but I think anything that doesn't live up to the original is more likely to deter potential fans.
To be clear, I'm not saying this show is bad either (I haven't watched it after all). I'm sure it's fine and maybe even improves some things. I just don't see the point when the original was already (nearly) perfect. I hate "live-action" remakes in general that act like they're better than the animated originals, even though they're still 80% animated and are mostly the same except for the actors. That statement from one of the creators of this remake certainly didn't help and I don't blame DiMartino and Konietzko for leaving the project. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery, but to me it usually just feels like an insult to everyone who worked on the originals.
