North of Pits is best spots ever. My brother and I used to catch 4 lbers there in the early 80s. Try those Peterson Pits out if they are still there. Some monster bass-use crawdads hooked through the tail and some giant crappie can be had too.

Try 13th street dam on the other side. I caught a 21 inch and and couple 18s there over the last couple months. Crawdad crank baits and top water.

I've tried there before, usually just get small ones though. Thanks for watching!

+802 Outdoors recently it hasn't been so good I think this asian guy has kept abunch of the decent size ones and its been hard or they moved down river but since spring I've been hammering em down there and everywhere I go around here I still catch alot just not as much size to them. this year in the dam alone though I've caught at least dozen 16s two 18s and a 21. and i threw them all back. early spring I have good luck with twister tails and worms. then i switch to crawdad cranks or a wacky worm late spring to early summer. then once it gets low and clear and hot enough top water and that's what I caught the 21 with a mini torpedo frog colored casting right in the current.

I heard it used to be good for channel cats but then 2012 was a drought year and pretty much wiped them out above Ames

Hi there, been looking around north eastern Iowa for a good catfish hole, haven't found anything spectacular yet. But I have found a pretty good smalley hole and I have been able to limit out almost every time I go. I don't know how this works on here but I'd let you know where I go and what I use there.

How far northeast? I know the upper portion of the Wapsipinicon and Maquoketa rivers hold a lot of nice channel catfish. Upper Iowa had hardly anything. Know any good spots for trout? Trout fishing in Iowa is still on my bucket list!

+802 Outdoors . Parts of the Maquoketa River around the cascade spillway have a lot of very nice smallmouth bass. I actually learned about fishing there from a young tube video. I went there 5 or6 times last summer and using minnows I caught my limit evrytime but one. And that ti.e I just didn't have time to stay long enough. I also caught on back to back cast 2 catfish an8 Anda 10 lber.I live by Andrew so it's a 40 minute trip there for me.

We actually camped up there by you, the name of the county parks escapes me. And I came to a grandsons track meet there last year. Never have trout fished. I was raised on the Rock River over in Moline, no trout around there. And I haven't picked it up since I retired.
Been looking for places that I can get down to the water and little more easily. Can't handle the rocks and such that the Corp of Engineers seems to think need to line the river bank.Good Luck and great fishing to'ya.
