I came to U.S from Cuba in 1962, I never heard of 'Folk Music' before, and then I heard The Brothers Four singing Greenfields......I discovered a new world of music!.
There are many folksingers but The Brothers Four are the best and very special to me.

I first heard this song on a Harry Belafonte album around 1963 or '64 when I was in the 8th or 9th grade. The Brothers Four do this song justice......and then some.

Burl Ives, the Brothers Four, PP&M, The Kingston Trio, all records I listened to hundreds of times as a child. Still remember laying on the floor listening to those songs before I was old enough to touch the stereo.

I heard this song when very young. I loved it so much that I named my doll Scarlett Ribbon. She had a hair wig that was once cut from my hair to make it. I still cherish my doll to this day. My mother made fancy clothes for her.

I heard this performed yesterday, the first time since I was a child when i grew up with the Harry Belafonte version. It brought tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat. Quite sublime and absolutely lovely.
