You are so original, what you see is what you get. The three of you making loving memories. Just a hot cup of very good coffee would put me in the mood. Blessings dean
Awesome! I actually picked up Bejamina's book a few weeks ago. So many interesting flavor combinations! Definitely will be going back to this book over and over again.
Love this!!! In Quebec, we have a similar traditional recipe where we use a white cake and brown sugar syrup and call it « unemployed person’s pudding « ( pudding chômeur).😀
There's an Australian (and maybe British?) dessert called a self-saucing chocolate pudding that uses the same pouring technique. It's our "quick weeknight dessert" recipe since it's so easy to make and hard to mess up.
I've been using a recipe like this for years - my mother called it hot fudge cake and my brothers and I really looked forward to days when Mom decided to have dessert after dinner. I've made it for my own kids and they love it too. Pretty much identical to this except for the halvah and tahini, so I'm eager to try this version!
My Mom made this cake a lot in the 70's. I like this updated version. Yay I have an excuse to go to the neighborhood Middle Eastern Grocery and get some Halva! I might have sweetened the tahini slightly so it wasn't completely different in terms of sweetness from the cake ingredients and the Halva. Otherwise going to make it as shown.
I've been making a fudge pudding cake recipe from my mother's Betty Crocker cookbook from the 50's that uses the same process. This combo sounds like a great update.
I was thinking of the same as I watched but I found mine in my grandmother’s 1951 Fanny Farmer, called “Denver Chocolate Pudding.” It must have been a thing in the 50’s. This version looks like a great update. I make my own tahini so I can’t wait to try it out. Yum!!
I absolutely loved this cake! I actually really don't like halva on its own but it played together so well with the other flavours here! I served mine with a coffee whipped cream!
@Kristen Miglore Your videos are done so well, only thing is missing is the close up footage of the 1st cut (lets viewers see the density, crumb and texture) Keep up the great work!
I suspect the slight piquance of strawberries would well compliment the sesame. I think a bit of fresh ginger juice into the sauce might prove a welcome addition, as well, as it cooks down mild for just a gentle flavor enhancement that I think would round out the sesame with some nice additional body.
Peanut butter maybe. In the former soviet country I'm from they sold peanut butter halva when I was a kid, not sesame one. Several different variations of it too. There was a raisin one and a cocoa one at least. Having tried sesame halva as an adult, I'd still go back to the peanut butter one. Interestingly enough, food52 has a blog post about making peanut butter halva from about a year ago! Russians also make halva with sunflower seeds. So there are definitely options! Although flavour and texture wise the peanutbutter halva is closer than the sunflower seed one.
This is the same idea to a Chocoflan in that you put something with a light density over something with a thicker density and then they magically (scientifically) switch places!
Boys, please note: Girls have this innate behaviour to take some of your food from your plate when they are eating the same thing as you. 😅😘 All jokes aside, this recipe looks delicious ❤ I love (LOVE) tahini and the combination with chocolate and coffee looks and sounds amazing. Thank you for sharing💛
In Australia we call them Self Saucing Puddings. To me nothing new about this been around for generations. If you are young tho and your mum didn’t cook then probably new to you.
As a young-ish person (born in the 21st rather than 20th century at least) it was definitely in our woman's weekly cookbooks growing up. I don't remember ever making it, but chocolate pudding wasn't a popular go anyway, so that could have been why.
I really do adore seeing a growing baby bump evolve into a toddler who DEMANDS cake. This makes me so happy.

little baby loving the cake just warms my heart! SO CUTE

Please tell me what is it called and where did you get that?
@@chrisch1865 It's called "The New Way to Cake," available here: amzn.to/36N5Dee

do you have a favorite recipe for this? 😻
It's been fun to see Kristen seem to get more comfortable in front of the camera as this series has gone on. Feels a bit more relaxed and fun now :)
The cake looks yummy. But that baby is absolutely gorgeous! Great job on both, mom!

Yeah, also called this in New Zealand
I'm thinking coffee whipped cream with this.... yummmmm
Her daughter was the highlight of this video she was sooo adorable! 😻

Excellent update on a very old fashioned pudding cake.
just watching and listening is a treat..now I am off to try it!
Your daughter is so cute! She brought her little friends to the cake party🎈🎉😃
I'm think I'm in love with this recipe.!!!!

WHAT A GREAT FAMILY! I TOTALLY AM MESMERIZED BY THE INTERACTION.....
There’s also a lemon version of pudding cake. And I’m with you on the chocolate cake - another vote for vanilla ice cream.
she's so cute, a little more ...the sesame is interesting, this recipe looks so good!!!
I absolutely loved this cake! I actually really don't like halva on its own but it played together so well with the other flavours here! I served mine with a coffee whipped cream!
Love your videos. You need to include a close up shot of the first cut so we can see the texture and density, thx!

Every mom watching this is in awe of your ability to film AND bake with a little one in the room! You’re doing a wonderful job.
That looks amazing!
I have never tried halva but this looks amazing so I think I have to give it a try.

How interesting - I really want to try this recipe out! What brand Halva do you recommend?
Food critic in training ♥️
Do you recommend a certain brand of halva? The flavor combination looks delicious. I can't wait to try it.
I need to try this!
Woah I didn't know Violet Chachki became a chef!! So happy for her 😇
This looks delicious!
What is a good flavor substitute for the halva/tahini? (for those of us who are allergic to sesame)
Peanut butter maybe. In the former soviet country I'm from they sold peanut butter halva when I was a kid, not sesame one. Several different variations of it too. @@SakennaM thank you! I never would have considered peanuts. I'll have to try it!
Would this technique with the water work for cupcakes too?
What would I do with it, I'd put a ring on it! It looks so delicious!
Can this be kept or must it be reheated before eating?
Lovely recipe! Just a query, which chocolate is to be used- compound or real?
can't wait to try this, I'm thinking honeycomb might be a great addition? It would have been nice to see you cut into it and the sauce underneath.
I would use pistachio halwa. ♥️
Omg your little girl is tooo freaking cute! She melted a little part of my icy black heart... which is saying somthing
WE NORMALLY USE PEANUT BUTTER - BUT I'LL TRY IT -
Nice upload dear
How can we get the exact measurements for the recipe /Or the recipe written for us.

In my best robot voice from the original Lost in Space, this recipe does not compute
So curious.. can it be made gluten free?
"Self SOARCING!"
I can't be the only one thinking it...
How 'bout fruit? Peaches or sweet apples? Maybe frozen berries? Mmmmm . . .
We call that chocolate cobbler here
Like a lemon pudding cake: the cake rises while the sauce sinks.

I’d add cardamom too
So funny almost left out 1/2 of the ingredients.
I’ll try the cream with it.

Can this be made vegan?
@Kristen Miglore thanks Kristen! I’ll give it a shot :)
why ice cream ?????? diverts from the support of chef!
Thank you for taking time out of your very busy schedule to respond I didn’t catch the cream in her interview I enjoy your channel greatly
it's painful watching. I think I'll go straight to the recipe page.
...This isnt new. :D
I love food 52 and Genius recipes, but GEEEEZE can you please speed up the tempo of these videos.... WAY to slow and repetitive. Ugh!
