    I’d be interested to know if there is a difference in performance with G-Sync on a freesync monitor like the 34GK950F vs G-Sync on a natively supported G-sync monitor like its 34GK950G counterpart (literally the same panel but with a native G-Sync module in it).

    • @user-yd4rk4gv6k
      @user-yd4rk4gv6k 5 років тому +33

      i wouldn't really care that much because the performance difference would be minimal if that but the price difference between freesync and gsync on the other hand is another story gsync being compatible with freesync monitors is the best thing that nvidia had done in 2019 lol

      yeah I would assume there is no real noticeable difference, they both accomplish the same goal and the player would instantly notice the smooth gameplay with it turned on either way

      @@whuber97 I got the aw3418dw. But, their is another LG still in production. It will be 38 inch variant with 3840x1600p 144hz native gsync IPS 2ms panel with OC to 170hz. Personally, I really want anything with 144hz and more than that just HDR. I want better colors.
      So, for now I ended up purchasing an LG 55 c8 OLED for $1349. The b8 has a little bit slower year old processor but that one was on sale for $999. So, it's all depending on what you want. But, no way would I give up ultrawide. I just got tired of going I love my gaming monitor but wish I could have deeper and better colors. My xb271hu has the best calibrated colors out of all the 1440p g sync IPS monitors. I have a great aw3418dw ao4. It's been 1 year over at this point @120hz no issues ever. But, really wish I could have that HDR standard. Some people say it's not worth others say that LG has lighter coating and nano IPS improved colors a bit plus native 144hz. Besides warranty being 1 year and Scrappy compared to Dell's 3 years of overnight replacement warranty. It's a toss up between what you think is worth. But, once they start selling these LG panels @ Costco I might just pick one up. We'll see... I rather not sell mine and give to my sister. Even sell to a friend because I can guarantee the panels quality.

    • @whuber97
      @whuber97 5 років тому +1

      @@Madhawk1995 A friend of mine just got a AW3418DW - it's a nice monitor. Currently I have an X34 that I use for AAA titles and productivity, and the AW2518H (240Hz w/ G-Sync) that I use for FPS games like CS:GO, etc. I am looking for a nice balance between an ultrawide monitor that I can use for productivity and still high refresh rate / low response time for the FPS games, and vairable refresh rate for the AAA games that I likely can't drive 144FPS on at that resolution. The HDR is a plus. So is the better OSD and layouts that you get with the LG panels. The OSD on the X34 is horrible. I feel like the 34GK950F might be that sweet spot. So I'd sell the 2 monitors I have now and replace it with that one.
      The upcoming 38" LG variant is an interesting thought, however I feel like that monitor won't likely see the light of day until Q4 and it'll likely come with a $2,000+ price tag, not something I'd likely be willing to deal with.
      The OLED TV is an interesting idea, though that would suffer from input lag for the FPS side of things, so I think I'm back to the 34GK950F. Any other thoughts on it?

    Thanks for the video. The 34GK950F - when activating Gsync, will the refresh rate be 144hz? If yes, that would make it a way better pick than the 34GK950G-B, the gsync model that is capped at 120hz.

    I just wanna say that I actually got the LG 32GK850F based on this video, to pair with my GTX 1080ti and unfortunately things are not as simple as this video would have you believe. While the Gsync will activate on a decent number of games, there were an awful lot (more than 50% of the games I tested) that refused to use Gsync while in fullscreen mode, yet would work when in windowed or borderless windowed. The only way to get Gsync working was to ALT TAB multiple times until it kicked in. I believe this is why one of Nvidias requisites for Gsync Compatible status was that the monitor had Freesync enabled by Default (which these monitors do not.) So while when it works, it does so better than my ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278Q, the extra effort to activate it in so many games really sours the taste in my mouth. Had I know this before buying I would not have got this monitor.

    • @VideoKursPL
      @VideoKursPL 4 роки тому

      did gsync always work properly if you had used borderless windowed option? Is that the only requirement to make sure gsync works perfectly on lg freesync2 monitor?

  • @adnantariq3346

    You review is kinda incomplete, because your monitor came with HDR. It be nice for you to review IF these NVIDIA graphic card actually support the ‘full’ range AMD FreeSync 2; and HDR is a important component of AMD FreeSync 2.
    More so your LG 32GK850-F came with HDR rating of 400. I would request you to test you r monitor with this NVIDIA graphics card, for a better comprehensive test
    Thx ^-^

    The biggest difference between both adaptive-sync-methods is that a G-sync(module) monitor has Variable Overdrive capability whilst there are only a few (two) Free-sync/G-sync-compatible monitors that have Adaptive Overdrive which is a rudimentary form of Variable Overdrive. I don't expect anyone to care about this. Would've been nice to touch upon this because it does make a big difference in image quality at lower frame rates!
    Static Overdrive
    This is your typical overdrive applied to speed up pixel transitions. Ignore the "1ms" in marketing for a minute. Those are bogus numbers. With a typical IPS-type 144hz panel, you're going to have something like 5-6ms at 144hz, and 8-10ms at 60hz. EXAMPLE
    And this is ideal. It mitigates both traditional ghosting and inverse ghosting (overshoot). If you used the 5-6ms overdrive algorithm at 60hz, you'd have dark smearing. If you used the 8-10ms algorithm at 144hz, you'd have noticeable ghosting.
    This leads us to...
    Dynamic Overdrive
    First generation Freesync displays had overdrive disabled when Freesync was enabled. This is because the algorithm was static and as your framerate dipped, ghosting became more evident. Finally, via firmware updates and new releases, overdrive could be enabled on some (and eventually most) Freesync displays. And thus, the marketing term "Dynamic Overdrive" was born. This is nothing more than the ability to enable static overdrive on a Freesync monitor. And because it doesn't fix the underlying issue, many manufacturers got creative with how they implemented this. The Asus MG279Q, for example, is a 144hz monitor with a 35-90hz Freesync range. What APPEARS to be happening is that, when Freesync is enabled, it uses the 60hz algorithm when in range, and the 144hz algorithm when out of range (which is when the monitor locks to 144hz). Maybe. That's speculation on my part. And could be wrong. It's a working theory that I do not have the means to test.
    Variable Overdrive
    This is a hardware feature built into the scaler of the G-Sync module. What this does is adjusts the overdrive algorithm on the fly based on the currently displayed frame rate, which controls the refresh rate. Your response time will slightly differ between 78hz and 79hz. This ensures that ghosting and overshoot are balanced and mitigated at all levels.
    Adaptive Overdrive
    For the longest time it appears that Variable and Adaptive overdrive were interchangeable. Adaptive-Overdrive is the feature for the Nixeus NX-ED27 claims to support. However a recent quote from their Director of Product Development led me to believe that they aren't truly the same. Adaptive overdrive seems to automatically enable overdrive when needed, and disables it when overdrive may be detrimental.

    There is NO G-Sync on FreeSync monitor. G-Sync is G-Sync, FreeSync is FreeSync.
    G-Sync works with nVidia proprietary hardware module,
    FreeSync works with free open-source Adaptive-Sync technology embedded in DisplayPort link.
    The so called "G-Sync on FreeSync monitors" only means that nVidia decided to support FreeSync on their graphics cards.

      I am very happy with the purchase, the freesync works great and the 144hz refresh rate looks amazing. The only thing to note is that since the 1050 ti is a bit of an older card some games you will probably have to turn down some of the settings. Like for example in 2016 Doom I had to turn down the settings to medium (which still looks great btw) to get an average fps of about 100-120fps. But I think that this monitor will come in handy even more so once I buy a new card. But yes I do think it is worth the purchase, even if you are only getting 80-90 fps in some games it's still an extra 30 fps compared to a 60hz. You have yourself a good day.

    • @f4z0
      @f4z0 5 років тому

      The thing with Vsync is that every input signal is "busy waiting" for the next Frame Sync signal. So you are tying your KB&Mouse input commands to the image being displayed.
      Another limit of Vsync is that it can only function up to the max refreshrate of your monitor (wasting the extra performance you can get out of your PC) and in 1/2^n the max panel refresh rate. Lets say you have a 144hz panel with vsync enabled. But your PC can't render 144frames, i can do... let's say 100. Since Vsync can only do 1/2^n set n=1 and you have 72fps cap. Wasting the extra 28fps your gpu can render. Furthermore, if for some moment your pc struggles with a complex scene and drops to let's say 70fps, since 70

    lol the funny thing is due to Gsync monitors costing a ton compared to freesync AMD monitors, this will make people want to buy more AMD monitors. Though you realize to get the best sync with AMD you gonna have to shell out just as much as a gync monitor anyways with the freesync 2 models.

    There's a firmware update for that ultrawide that improves input lag greatly I believe. They've also got a 1440p, IPS, 160hz, 27inch coming in Q3 with 95% DCIP3. I'm waiting for that!

    G sync and Freesync while making your game look better, it causes input lag which is unbearable in competitive e sports games. So pros doesn't use it, but for some of you guys that is causal players it is really beneficial.

    the whole joke is, is that the 34GK950F AND 34GK950G have been discontinued in the UK the only reason I know this as I wanted to purchase one and it was out of stock everywhere so I contacted LG UK and they said that they have been discontinued but the new 34GK950G-B and 34GK950F-B have just been released but there only currently available in the US I think. So sadly I can't get my hands on one of these yet was really wanting one as my monitor is on the brink of dying and I was so happy that I found these as they are perfect for what I wanted. :(
