  • How much money does a gardener earn? I compare my earnings for my first year running a gardening business compared to my second year running a gardening business in December. Winter is a hard time for any gardener or landscaper and I did this video to help people who are thinking about starting up to give them the reality. This is my personal experience of running my garden maintenance business

    I always tuck away a winter fund just in case, as you say, the worst happens and there's zero work. It won't be an easy winter living off the fund but i'll get by until April. If I do manage to pick up enough winter work to scrape a living then that fund can either be reinvested in the business or spent on something nice for me.

    I try and save x amount for winter fund, also as a backup, and most years dip into it, a lawn mower breaks and that's it winter fund almost depleted, I have a spreadsheet that I update every morning to give my accountants, I have figured out how to link previous years so I can see what I earned the previous years and try and improve each year.

    Not bad at all, I'm on my 9th year of being self employed and I've found each winter to get busier and busier... Definitely gets easier 👍🏻

    That's excellent for Feb, I'm of the age where I don't really do one off jobs but am happy to say to my clients , See you in the spring, and take the hit! Netflix can soon lose its appeal though!😢!

    The weather doesn't give a monkey's how long you've been doing the job! I'm in my 13th year of being self-employed and my rain is just as wet as yours 😂! I probably made about the same, that's why putting some aside in the spring, summer and autumn, is always a great idea! 👍

    I'll make a prediction, you'll be over £2K next Feb. Better customers will come, more profitable work will appear, and you'll get through more jobs by learning how to work efficiently.

    Hi really enjoying the videos. You seem like a very nice reasonable bloke with lots of good advice. Sub’D. I’m trying to get started but all I have is a lawnmower and a few hand tools and a car for transport. I’m finding it hard to advertise. Not very savvy with social media. Any advice would be great. I watched your video where you said post on local buy and sell pages but it doesnt seem as easy as that. I can’t even set a Facebook page up. Thankyou ✌🏽❤️🇬🇧

      Could you get someone to do it for you? How about getting some leaflets made up and posting them or putting them in local shops/businesses? Are there any local raffles/charity events where you could donate a free grass cut? Thanks for watching and glad you're enjoying the channel

      @@TheGreyGardener1990 hey absolutely made up with your support and the reply. Iv actually been lucky 🍀 and done a few jobs through word of mouth in the last week of good weather. Thankyou for the advice I will get the leaflets done and dished out asap. It’s very rewarding and satisfying seeing the before and after results. Would be happy to share some pics with you of my recent jobs via email or social media if that’s something you would be ok with. It’s quite impressive what you can get done with just hand tools and a decent mower. Either way Thankyou for your support and amazing content it’s always much appreciated and overall entertaining. After having done a few jobs myself i have to appreciate the skill time and extra effort that it must take into documenting the footage you provide us with on UA-cam. So once again Thankyou ❤️✌🏽🇬🇧

      I live in an average place. Within 10 mins drive we have the most deprived area in the North West. Go the other way and £5million houses with big, big gardens. The most generous are in the deprived areas. Xmas bonuses are a big fat zero with the posh people. We're in the average area they practically give you money just for turning up for a talk. I'm very lucky with the amount of gardens I do and a frugal lifestyle I try not to work for three months. A bit of pressure washing and this year, drain clearance which I've become quite adept at. I love you honesty in vids. Too many vids are so coy with earnings and hours spent doing a job.

    Hi mate do you do any of your customers monthly. I started a garden business 3 years ago and maybe 20% of my customers are monthly because the gardens just don’t grow enough to do them fortnightly? Just wondered if I should be looking at replacing them

    • @TheGreyGardener1990
      @TheGreyGardener1990  Рік тому

      Hi Sam, I do some monthly but they're hedges. If you're talking about grass, then they are all fortnightly. The heatwave we had during the summer, some gardens were done when needed but in general they are every 2 weeks. Obviously there are times when you go to a garden and its only 'slightly' longer than normal but I'd still cut it. I had one garden last year where every now and then she'd say it doesn't need a cut and I'm going to see how it goes this year. I'm 95% full now and I expect to reach my limit in the next month or so, so if that customer is carrying on in the same vein, I'll be dropping them. Its only a £20 garden and takes me like 20 mins so it doesn't bother me too much but it depends on your situation. If you're full and its stopping you from making money then if you feel you can replace them I'd definitely consider it.
