I've done it in the past trying sides first but I find when you cut the top the clippings then get caught on the sides so you have to go over them again. Each to their own though 👍
Yes everyone to there own but I always like to do the sides first so that gets me in closer then I do the top but we all get to the same destination nice job.
Thankyou for these hedge cutting videos. I am thinking about buying an electric cordless telescopic hedge trimmer on amazon for around £100 and going door to door offering a hedge trimming service to people with hedges. Is it easy enough to start off like this? Do you need public liability insurance? 🤔
I stay clear of hedges now I hate doing them and I find them an absolute pain in the arse so this hedge would be quoted at around £250 🤣 nice job mate and using the mower to help tidy up is a great tip.
@@TheGreyGardener1990 yep you can pick and choose your jobs and price, I’m lucky I have a really good list of clients who are really understanding. Have a good end to the week mate has the ground dried out up there yet?
@@Karl-p6h it's starting too. I've only not been able to cut a handful of lawns this week which isn't too bad. Forecast looks good going into next week
I find if I cut the top first you end up with clippings on the side of the hedge so you have to go over the sides again. I've done it both ways and prefer this personally
50/60 totally fair, the 1 hour jobs for me have a slight premium on them, 50/60 doesn’t sound loads for the job your doing, so the customer will be happy enough as are you , I think if that hedge was 3 times as long 150/180 may seem steep, little jobs like that are the best earners, just like small lawns vs big lawns small 5 min lawn £10 vs big 50 min lawn £40
@@blank-dr2kxThis is my 34th year as a self employed gardener, ive always charged what i would like to pay for the job required done.its worked for the last 33 years.customers are happy i am happy and no one feels ripped off.
I’d charge £50 and £10 for waste away, try to piggy back off another bigger job so someone else is also paying for waste to take away. I charge £40 for a van load and I have to pay £20 to get rid of it.
Imagine doing this with handtools back in the day. Powered tools don't help us enjoy life, just make us expect more, for less, faster. AI is a further step, but it's all back to front. always love your honest approach to jobs and the fact you're not scared to talk about the money like some are. Helps us newbies out a lot, cheers.
I’m in Cornwall and would charge £80 for that hedge including taking the waste away. As you said, allow an hour for it.
Great video - more like this please! Looking forward to the season!
Sides first then top for me, 30 mins tops for a job like that, £50

Lovely job Adam and great explanation for any beginners
Well done mate hope life’s treating you well
Thanks mate. Yeah back isn't the best as usual but apart from that can't complain haha

how long does the battery last on your hedge cutter?
I think like you were saying you were done in about an hour. I'm down in Essex so looking at £80 - £100
Random one but do you compost down the waste? or just bin it?

Great video and I would of said £60 with taken the waste away
Spot on there mate
£50 hedge, 45 mins inc tidy up.
Seems a really odd way of working, i always side a hedge first the cut the top, farr easier to get the top straight if the sides are tight.

Although I’d happily mow big lawns for £40ph all day all year if I could but little ones really bump up the numbers ☺️
Does using the mower for picking up hedge clippings blunt the blade?
Were iam only get 40 for that job
I would of charged about £35 ,but my customers keep telling me i am too cheap.but if im happy with what i charge whats their problem.

Wouldn’t get more tan 50 inc waste removal
In Preston
I’m in Leyland lol
I’ve just started is £25 to cheap??
If its for something like this hedge I'd say so. Or is that an hourly rate?
Not a bad job top and 1 side? Lift the bottom clear up remove brash, yea £80 cash hour and a bit max and I'm in southampton!

Should be £150 min
£150 minimum for a simple hedge cut?? , top and one side only, should only have taken 30 mins max. 😅 Absolutely ridiculous
