S Al . Id like to see how to avoid being taken down and how to get out if someone does take you down. People like to climb on top and keep wailing these days.
Sprawl is technically the last thing you want to do if someone attempts a takedown. Its performed when someone penetrates to your hips...which means they beat your head and your hands. :)
I love that they're literally the two most common people you come across when you teach people martial arts. The guy who move so awkwardly because he's thinking about everything way too much, The guy who tries to do everything way too quickly. It's so adorable, these are bloody great. Great coaching too.
I love the early moments of "Oh shit" Brian gets in all these sorts of videos, the haymaker, the sword fighting, the dagger, the moment he feels someone get that position and realises how powerful it is.
This episode reminds me why I love this channel so much, it's a perfect balance between useless cool stuff and actual real world skills. This coach was amazing at teaching and he also seemed really smart, keep up the great content guys
I really appreciate you guys for teaching them these moves. I know teaching someone something that you think is easy is not all that easy, and requires patience, and that is why I respect people like you guys. You coaches have my utmost respect.
I have to say that you guys are the only people that have ever made me care enough to actually comment and commend someone about their channel. You have now easily gone up into my TOP 3 channels to watch with Vsauce and Codys Lab. Every time I check out you tube I am looking for Modern Rogue videos. Awesome channel, awesome guys hosting said channel! BTW now that you have promised us a choke out for a video end you guys are at least have to do that to each one of you once sometime in the future. The very near future.
@@AcesJiuJitsuClub i am a gracie barra student and i actually joined on my birthday.. it has been one of my best decisions and i am glad i chose to learn Brazilian jiujitsu..
Wow! Thanks for the compliment Terry! It's lot of fun teaching and sharing with Modern Rogue and their awesome subscribers! More coming soon! What kind of techniques or situations would you like to see?!
What I think is happening is that his arm is just providing tension to the other side and giving him some leverage, while the jacket is actually doing the choking.
Even though these aren't the most practical of your videos, it's honestly the most entertaining content you guys produce without hurting eachother. Props to yall, and I hope you keep training at Ace's
Mikal is one of the more intimidating people I have ever seen, his size, confidence, and experience play a big part; but I think the crux of it is he seems like a genuinely nice guy that never wants to fight someone.
With these videos I would love to see the coaches demonstrate the technique in live application. Fights aren't stationary, and while it is important to come to grips with what you are doing in a dead drill, a demonstration of how it works in a live drill would be appreciated to show how to get to that choke and what entry to use, as well as when it is applicable.
loved this vid even though i already have trained brazilian jiu jitsu...infact it made me really think about wanting to start up again, been bs'in myself saying im too busy to hit the mat but damn do i miss it!
Bruh I went to a free trial Jiu-Jitsu. And the coach said "eh your smart kids it's ok if you go with the advance class" and I pinned down one hands and was trying to reach his neck instead he choked me with one hand which I thought wasn't possible. I instantly fell in love with the sport lol.
Dear Bryan and Jason, Thank you so much for all that you do. I really appreciate all of these roguish skills, I'm really into these kinds of things. (Don't worry, I'm a responsible human being.) I love your merch on scamstuff, and I love the things that you do. The merch makes me feel awesome, these skills make me feel awesome, it's really a good thing that I'm not a criminal, or I would be a real public menace. :) Thank you, all of your videos make my day. It's nice to see some demonstrations on being a professional idiot so that I don't do it myself. (or do it myself safely.)
also another reason to stand off to the side you're at a better position of advantage over being in front where if they strike they're probably getting the most power EVEN if it isn't much
Pro Tip: Also works on Pikies/Chavs/Asbos wearing Tracksuit tops. I 'unofficially' learned this technique when I did Judo, and it came in useful for disabling Chavs that start fights for literally no reason. They almost always never have them zipped up in my experience.
The intro is becoming a trilogy. Starting off as a small rogue, small side stuff, getting their grounds, small underground missions. Season 2, drone shot upwards, spiraling up the ranks, becoming even more badass. Season 3, WALKING AWAY FROM EXPLOSION. BADASSERY 10000000. HOLY SHIT DONT FRICK W THEM
Am I the only one who was really hoping for Jason's version of them trying it out in the garage? I think that's the full charm of this show is you guys kinda getting an idea and some sources together and then working it out in the garage. I mean there are already tons of videos of BJJ dudes showing how to do chokes.
My Cousin did this to me, he got a lot of military training and went overseas, his stance is rock solid we have done a lot of martial arts training but I could not budge him his stance was so grounded.
Fun fact! The blood choke works by only needing to put pressure on one side because of baroreceptors. What you are actually doing is stimulating the Vagus nerve on the side of the neck. One runs on each side of the neck but only one side being stimulated is needed. What happens when this nerve senses increased pressure it creates a sudden drop in your blood pressure, causing you to pass out. Very complex body mechanics for a simple end result :)
As a child, my father dipped my toe into the waters of...jk I've just been super fortunate to train with some of the greatest coaches around the world who pushed me to challenge myself. ...oh and great students like Brian and Jason make it easy! ;)
I would love to see an episode dedicated to defense against an armed opponent. Particularly one armed with a knife. General strategy for either disarming, disabling, or evading attacks with a pointed or sharp edged weapon would be brilliant!
David Oh I don't disagree, making an exit is almost always the best decision, but should anyone ever be in a situation where the individual with the weapon is between you and the exit, say in an alley or in a room with one exit, being able to either control the situation in such a way that allows you to be re-positioned to exit, or if thats not possible disarm or disable. But first and foremost if you can simply vacate a situation safely that's absolutely the wisest choice
Whistling Duck Pro, I'm teaching a seminar on this subject in a couple of weeks! I will let the Brian and Jason know we should add some edge weapon defense to the list! :)
And excellent students they are! Sounds like you are enjoying viewing as much we enjoy sharing with Brian and Jason! Thanks for viewing and being super cool! :)

The Modern Rogue subscribers are so cool we couldn't resist! Thanks again for being cool space jesus! :)
1. Are you choking yet?
2. Starts to look like an awkward hug
3. Accept failure
That's what every one of my attempts felt like.
...minus the accepting failure. ;)
this series progressively makes Jason look more like a murderer.
Bearmoth XD
Bearmoth as a Texan, that is false
Bearmoth for incest, look at Arkansas
Or Japan...
Itsacabbage I don't know about that as I come from arkansas and I don't remember any incest
It's refreshing to see coaches with a sense of humor and a personality. Loving the self defense episodes a lot more than I thought I would. :)
I love this channel, it teaches me things I didn't even know I wanted to learn.

So did we!

Man that instructor is a class act!! Some people just have that incredible gift for teaching.
Wow! Thanks Robert! I REALLY love sharing and I'm glad it shows! More coming soon! :)
The humor in this episode is some of the best so far. Makes me wish there was a Modern Rogue Podcast.
GREAT IDEA!!!
Brian has one.

Brian the word you were looking for was Carotid artery, not jugular.
that's the one.
socratic.org/questions/are-the-jugular-vein-and-carotid-artery-present-on-both-sides-of-the-neck-or-is-
@@katweirdman9817 The fact that a jiu jitsu black belt doesnt know that there is a carotid on both sides really makes me doubt his credentials

Thank you
Jason Murphy oh hi, aren't you're that not so cool guy because THE BRIAN BRUSHWOOD is standing next to you right?

I don't think people appreciate just how good the editor is. Brandt Hughes thank you.
AGREED!!!
Is he saying the carotid artery is only on one side? Maybe he means he is only choking off the artery on the left side?
He's only choking off the artery on _his_ left, but he's choking off the person's right artery.
It looks like arteries on both sides are being choked off. One with his arm, and the other with his jacket.
What I think is happening is that his arm is just providing tension to the other side and giving him some leverage, while the jacket is actually doing the choking.
I'm loving these BJJ videos. Keep doing them!
Sweet! Thanks, Nicholas! More to come!!! :)

Thanks!
Love watching these self defence ones, makes my walk to school much less frightening.
I want to see Brian and Jason have an Olympic style competition. Featuring various tools and techniques they've featured on the show.
The beginning what a friend choice
"He's not reacting, I'm not doing this right" I mean, the exact thing you want when you're choking someone...
These guys need their own channel
OMG... "Are you feeling it now Jason?"

You could make an entire channel with just videos of this guy teaching you stuff and I think you'd do well.
You remember what I said about Jason becoming more scary from the extended outtakes of the dead drop? Yeah...
dude this is helpful af. Wish I knew this when I was in school.
