We moved to a new home with a tiny backyard. I’ve been searching and searching and found this beauty. We have always wanted a Jacaranda but never had the yard for it. Our local Nursery had one in stock and they put it on hold for me. I feel young again having this small work of art in my backyard. I just hope I don’t mess anything up. 😍
I live in coastal Southern California and planted two of these dwarfs about 7 years ago. They didn't grow much the first two years. But now they do. They are super lush and beautiful. I do a pretty major prune every other winter. In the spring, they go crazy with new growth. One of mine sends branches out from below the graft. Those head straight for the sky, so I have to cut all those off. I need another one so hopefully my local nursery still sells them.
I have this one. Just planted it a month ago in Northern California in the ground. Watered every day for 1 hour for the first week, now doing twice a week watering for 1 hour each time. I go out every Tuesday with measuring tape. It has not grown an inch yet but I know I must be patient. Haha. Any tips appreciated.
Is yours dropping small branches? I'm in Northern CA too and have one in a 24 in pot which I bring into the garage at night and put outside every morning to protect it from the cold. Mine has just started dropping it's stems and leaves. Not sure of they all do that in the winter.
I planted one of these in a courtyard in Houston, Texas (the dwarf variety) and it actually has grown taller than the 1 story house -- so maybe 15 - 20 ft. Be careful where you plant it can get tall.
@@tp8449 JRN Nursery. This was years ago and from what I recall they only had a few. Tree completely died in the historic freeze a few years ago, now replaced with a purple Bauhinia.
It's either a lie or a misunderstanding, there's no such a thing like "dwarf jacaranda" those are just stunted jacaranda, because it's root can't grow more on those pots... I live where they are native from...
I purchased a bonsai jacaranda. It’s in a pot full sun. I live in Auburn California. It’s dried out and loosing leaves. So sad so confused. I see a tree watered 1 hour a day for first week? Maybe not enough water? Any comments? Help?
Time of year can be helpful. Purchasing plants in early spring or fall to avoid installing in the hot summers to help the plants get established. Also, as a drought-tolerant plant it's good to heavy water but then back off to let the soil dry out a little.
I live in Phoenix where it can get up to 120F (49C). I bought one in April of 2019 and planted it in the ground in a southern spot on my patio--lots of reflected heat and light. The temperature doesn't bother it at all. It blooms from roughly the end of May to the middle of September. I water it deeply once a week and it's fine. Right now it's just shy of 9' (2.7M) tall.

Wow, that's amazing 🙌
These are usually sold to prune as bonsi. Remive fast growth and prune accordingly
Love the jacarandas, they are everywhere here in Hawthorne

That was too much water. You were literally drowning the tree.
Loving that colour
so pretty right!

Selective Pruning is the key
Hi! I’m also in Houston. Can you tell me where you bought your jacaranda?

@@greghiggins1952 didn't do anything special I think they are just large fast growing trees.
They are mostly special for pruning Bonsi style.
Beautiful tree 😁
Can I grow this in Dallas texas?
Yes I believe so! Same climate needs as the standard jacaranda :)
That is a great color for you. Also, "Aphid poo" is a great name for a punk rock band.
hahah yea it would be lol
Can these be potted outside (I have a large clay pot, similar to the containers in your video) to stunt their growth?
For sure they can be potted. Just won't ever get to it's full potential.
Hello Sara, can this be grown into a 10-12ft single trunk tree Vs a bush?
its a newer variety so I think were still seeing what it does and conditions can vary on each plant!
More information about jacaranda ma'am please
where do you find this variety online?
