And as far as her being not very intelligent, how the heck could her brain develop normally when she had spent so many of her formative years being drastically undernourished and deprived of all intellectual stimulation and educational opportunities by her captor?
“Low crime rate” yep there’s a reason for that, if you don’t condemn the same crimes as other countries do of course you’re gonna win the “lowest crime rate” award
After being found and returned to her parents she watches her father drown. This poor girl. Hopefully she finds some peace and joy after all she's been through.
A lot of people have the odds against them but they keep trying and I believe she is trying her hardest to have peace and a normal life as much as possible! I would hate for her to ever come across theses comments saying she will never have peace and be very upset about what she has read. I for one believe in her and alot of awful things happen to people it's not right by any means! Trying to put your life back together after something so horrible is very hard but it can be done and the sounds of it she is doing a great job .
So am I. I wonder if it was because of lack of evidence or if the Criminal Confinement charge was the one most likely to be successful. This is a Tracy Dugard kind of case. He deserves a life sentence.
I love how Sato picked his own definition of germaphobia. Not letting his dad come home from work but would not let Sano take a shower and they both peed in bags. This is not OCD but pure narcissism. It should be noted that in China, keeping a woman captive for sexual trafficking only lands you 3 years' jail time, but if you smuggle drugs you could face death penalty. These lenient laws allow men in countries where women have no power to get away with crimes like these.
@@jacksonburns2309 as someone who has OCD (not germaphobia, I’m more the scrupulous type) I agree. Often times the things you obsess over are completely irrational and don’t make sense, even the person who has them realizes that. Anyways, his OCD is definitely not an excuse for what he did, and honestly he deserves to rot in prison for eternity

So true! My girls are grown and I am blessed with a g'child and I worry about them all..It's sad that if you're a woman that makes you a target for weirdos🥺
This girl suffered for no fault of hers. She was just a kid going home & then, her life was destroyed by a frustrated monster who wanted a slave. Some people are born evil.
Hope she spends her life in the sun ☀, getting all the vitamin D she missed, and can photograph nature's beauty. A close relative to me decently committed an act youtube won't let me say, but he spent his last few years taking photos of every flower he saw, and I really believe at least nature prolongs the life of the people who suffer most. Hope she gets an amazing camera and meets loving friends and documents the world. Me and my brother still weep over the images he took, and I know this lady can touch other people the same.
The justice system in Japan is a joke. anyone can commit these evil crimes to children and women for so long and only get a low pathetic sentence. A change in the justice system must happen.. this leniency can't keep on
Lol the Cannibal that ate his roommate is a fkin star over there in Japan. He is also a successful author of how he murdered her. So yeah, Japan is a sick place.
Torture and pedophilia should’ve have racked up over 14 years alone! The police are just as disgusting in this case. Clearly trying to rape a child warrants serious consequences. Sex offenders are never just one time offenders. Not if they’re shown they can get away with it. That’s not how it works. I hate that they badgered the mother when she tried to get help so many times. Obviously no one wants to be beaten. He could’ve ended up killing her if she had went up there and got caught snooping and she probably knew that he just might kill her if pushed too far. She clearly knew he was unhinged and she was afraid of him.
Damn can you imagine your whole childhood taken from you just like that? Ten years worth of family, friends, education, graduation, technology and dating taken from you all within a few seconds just because some creep wanted to get his rocks off to torturing a poor kid and you just happened to be the one walking past the bastard at that moment? Poor girl😞I really mean it.
Exactly, thinking back on my childhood and years.. how much went on.. cant imagine that entire time being wiped away only to be replaced with something horrific
@@rachelannapolaro8969 Right? I can't even fathom. Not just that, but the sheer boredom between the torture! No toys or dolls to play with in all that time either? That's awful.

10 years for the abduction... Pathetic... But wasn't there sexual assault, physical abuse, elder abuse? Also, it was said that he'd tie up his mom as well, only untying her to use the bathroom... Would that not be another kidnapping charge? Hopefully Japan fixed some of these issues in their laws. The people, especially the women and children, deserve some security!
So sickening! A 10 years sentence for abducting, brutalizing and keeping a child for 10 years?! It doesn't make any sense, this poor girl must suffer with the consequences all life long! Outraging!
As much as people gripe about the American justice system being "soft", they should look at other systems around the world. Many countries don't have "life sentences". In some, "life" is defined as 25 years. Pedro Lopez in Columbia abused and killed AT LEAST 110 girls, but has admitted to killing more than 300. He was arrested in Ecuador in 1980, released in 1994, then sent to Columbia, where he was declared insane, held in an asylum until 1998, when he was declared sane again. He posted $50 bail, and has not been seen since. He's wanted in Columbia again for another murder from 2002, but it's assumed he's killed dozens more.. Police have no idea where he is. Luis Garavito is another one. Found guilty (also in Columbia) of 138 of 172 murders of boys and young men. Was sentenced to 1853 years in prison, but Columbian law limits prison sentences to 40 years. And since he helped police find some of the bodies, they cut that down to just 22 years. He's eligible for parole next year..He was arrested in 1999... How's that for infuriating?
@@violette80 I feel you and agree... Though other countries lack of ability to properly set proper prison terms doesn't make me feel any better about what goes on in my own backyard. Though a free pedo or rapist in general or murderer, abuser, opportunist ect... Is harmful the world over. Though a unified justice system wouldn't be an answer... But I wish we all could come up with one.
Well given recidivism rates tend to rise with length of incarceration I think it's pretty clear that throwing someone in jail for a very long time only makes things worse and is also extremely expensive. But you want to predicate your sense of justice on emotion, like having someone sit in a cell for 40 years is going to resurrect whoever they killed or undo all the drugs they did. Japan has an extremely low crime rate, I think their justice system works just fine.
Shoplifting a pair of underwear had the same 1yr punishment of kidnapping and torturing a child and holding her captive per 1 year. How is that even close to what would have been appropriate.
Sometimes I feel like the law makers themselves are some wannabe criminals. They made these sentences so that when they commit something disgusting like these they will be fine
Abducts a 9 y.o. girl Imagine the trauma, anger, hopelessness, guilt, anxiety she felt. (And her family). She is then beaten and abused over those 8 years...bruising and healing and bruising and healing. I don't even want to think if he sexually assaulted her or something worse..which I fear he may have done. But the mental stress of the situation must've been unimaginable...not to mention the mental abuse she had to endure for 9 years. She spent years tied up with a rope, leading to awful atrophy. She was never allowed outside so she certainly suffered from vitamin D deficiency. Which most likely led to many illnesses over the course. She eventually came to terms with her situation... And most likely did so because she probably lost the will to live. She is finally rescued. Now after all that...you realize your abductor, the one who took you from your family and friends..and the world, the one who stole your life, your education, your childhood, your mentality, your emotions, literally everything...has only received a max sentence of 10 years... Where in prison he will have a bed, people to talk with, able to go outside, no fear of being teased or beaten up, 3 meals a day.... Fuck the justice system
Just me and my 💕daddy💕, hanging out I got pretty hungry🍆 so I started to pout 😞 He asked if I was down ⬇for something yummy 😍🍆 and I asked what and he said he'd give me his cu Y
Since they were trying to add extra years to his sentence, why didn’t they add each and every serious assault? A stun gun can also be considered a deadly weapon.
Well, he also tied up his mom, isn't that kidnapping as well? How about a rape charge? Torture charges? You're right, there's a slew of things they could have charged him with. I'm sure these other things aren't legal there. So horrible.
@@ElizRued Japan's justice system is messed up. They don't care about getting the right person, just a person. If they decide to pin it on you, you have almost 0 chance of walking away free. Their fear of failing is greater than their desire for justice.
I just saw a video of a victim held captive for 88 days, thinking it to be absolutely horrific, but this video breaks my heart. Im glad she was returned to her real home.
Victim blaming on mainstream media and legitimate news channels is absolutely disgusting. Since no one has been in Sano’s position (even other kidnapping survivors have not experienced her exact situation), it’s impossible for any one to say how they would’ve responded to the situation. Anyone who criticizes this young woman for how she handled her kidnapping is sick. It says a lot more about them than it does about Sano. I wish for nothing but the best for Sano💕
To be honest too, media are often hungry about disgusting stories as it knows it makes them money. Media are worst than pedophiles as they win money on the back of the victims
Out of all things, being taken and held captive for a very long duration of time without anyone knowing where you are is by far the scariest thing to me. There was a case where a guy built a hidden bunker under his garage and kidnapped 2 girls. It was in a Baltic state I think. I feel so much fear for the victims. There was a case in America where 3 different girls were held captive for years and they eventually got free but it's the scariest thing to think about..
The case with the two women was in southern California....around Bakersfield, I think? I remember that one, 'cause I lived in so. Ca., and Las Vegas, so it was close to home.✌😸 #if it shoots send it 🇺🇦🇺🇸
The case with 3 different girls is the Ariel Castro case in Cleveland, Ohio. The girl who got free and saved the others is Amanda Berry & the other 2 women are Michelle Knight & Gina DeJesus
Check out the case of Jaycee Dugard, 18 years and even gave birth to two of that kidnapper pedo druggy pos, all with the assistance of his wife. That happened less then an hour away from where I am.
All children are just so innocent and can't fully comprehend what is going on. I can't imagine surviving such tough and traumatizing events at such a young age. It makes me sick to my stomach.
I wouldn't say a nine-year-old "Can't fully comprehend what's going on." Children have a lot more understanding of the world, their environment, and the people in it than you'd think. If nine-year-old me was kidnapped and locked up somewhere, I'd be very aware of the horror and potential horrors of my situation.
@@lovelypastelpuppy1640 Ohh, I wasn't talking about trauma, of course everyone reacts to traumatic things differently. I said a nine-year-old has the mental capacity to understand what is happening in this situation.
Breaks my heart to have heard this case. Crime against anyone is wrong. But when its crime against a child its tragic and sad. Thank you for all your hard work and eye opening content. Anytime I feel sorry for myself, I watch one of these videos and I then I feel ashamed and then grateful.
Rapists in general and child sex offenders especially must not be allowed to live at all. No court judgment. No prison time. Execution right on the spot.
Personally I would say life time torture idk maybe constantly remove their nails and break fingers, rip out hair with minimal food wait for them to grow or heal back to do it again they may die but it will be slow quick deaths are too easy for the evil
The USA just lets OJ Simpson behead two people, cops kill people for being black, and cannot pass the Equal Rights Amendment - and you have a problem with JAPAN>
Japan’s criminal record isn’t really that impressive. The police will simply not investigate or handle a crime if they feel they won’t get a conviction. If they do investigate and arrest a person then their interview techniques are pretty intense and border on brutal. You can be held in detention for up to 23 days without any charges. Interviews are not routinely recorded and whilst you can consult a lawyer, they’re typically not allowed to come into the interview room with the suspect during the actual interview. If you confess then this is essentially enough for a conviction even if the confession itself contradicts evidence or witness statements. Foreign residents in Japan also say that the police often target them for ‘easy’ arrests, relying on most foreigners’ ignorance of the legal process. There’s been instances of foreigners being arrested for ridiculous things, like accidentally underpaying for a sushi roll at Familymart.
Very unreported, and there are a lot of things not considered a crime there that are in many other places. Plus, like this story shows, getting the cops to even look into something is like pulling teeth.
@@icyblondeleh1700 That's what I was thinking. I read somewhere (I couldn't produce the source, so take this as you will) that police will try to convince people to drop charges and "work it out" themselves. That's why the crimes we hear about are the atrocious ones.
It's not low, the police just ignores cases. Most of the time, they close the case as soon as possible as they can care less about solving them, especially if it becomes public attention. They will just find the first suspect and charge th m regardless of guilty or not. They follow the "guilty before proven innocent''
As socially distant and this girl may have become I would be a lifelong friend to her no matter how awkward or weird she was. What has the world become?
I know what you mean. It makes me want to be there for her, to support and care about and be a friend to her forever. It makes you want to take care of her and show her all the love and kindness she deserves and should have always had. So sad... ❤
You grew up, thats what happened. You woke up from the delusional happy stuff that our parents fed us as children so we think this world is good when its really really not
This is heartbreaking. Dude didn't get nearly enough punishment for what he did to that girl. It was right up there with murder and his sentence should have reflected that.
Sato's mother should be in prison for not dealing with the situation as she should have!!! Excuse me, but if someone told me to never enter a certain room and to buy feminine hygiene products, I'd alert the police and some mental health specialistst, too.
Except that she never said he had her buy feminine hygiene products- that was just speculation on the part of others who were completely outside of the situation and trying to find a way to implicate her. There could be several alternatives to that particular situation- he bought them himself, stole some of his mother's or didn't use them at all but made Sano use rags or towels/paper towels. Or it's very possible that because she was so malnourished, Sano never required the use of feminine hygiene products- or at least not regularly enough to where he wasn't able to use one of the alternatives I listed already. Women who are malnourished may not get periods or may not have them very often. And as for not going into his room- what parent feels the need to just go into their adult child's room? Keeping his space to himself was something he'd have been doing for years, seeing as he was a germaphobe. It's not like he walked in one day and started freaking out and telling her never to go in his room. And you may have missed it but she DID seek mental health treatment for him- several times. In doing so, he was diagnosed as OCD, which was another explanation she had for many of his strange behaviors. And even so, she still finally called police and mental health again at the end. When someone is diagnosed with a mental illness, you can't just call whoever just because they're displaying "strange" behavior, especially when that behavior is part of that illness, unless they are a danger to themselves or others. Do you seriously think the police will come if you called and said "my 30 year old son won't let me in his room"?
From sounds of it she tried dozens of times but you have to keep in mind the cultural stigma about mental health. He was also abusive to his mother, and the misogyny that might discredit her claims of his insanity/abuse.
Dead giveaway plus she knew he was a pervert. I understand scared of your son, but now your son is terrorizing other peoples kids. Exaggerate to get police to enter the room once you see he’s guarded over it or something
This is literally not a happy ending at all she has to live with that trauma the rest of her life. 10 years held captive!! I don’t understand why ppl always tryna compare tho case with junko ye they similar but still are both individual ppl so pls don’t do that
Can you believe the audacity of this man stating he saw her as a friend and he gave her everything she needed to develop at her age. I pray that, that woman is doing way better now and is working through all of that unnecessary trauma that was inflicted onto her.

I’m a college aged man and I’m not easily bothered but hearing that her dad actually died from drowning while going swimming with her only a couple years after being reunited legitimately made me tear up in grief for her and her family. It was only briefly mentioned but as soon as I heard it I instinctively blurted out “oh my god. Oh my god” out loud in sorrow
This seems to happen with a lot of Japanese cases - very lenient sentencing for horrific crimes such as murder, sexual assault, kidnapping, abuse. Cases like this one or Junko Furuta (I am aware Junko's abusers were underage at the time, but there are other cases to). Then when it comes to different types of crime, less sadistic, such as drug related stuff, those seem to be treated very harshly and seriously. Is this trend actually the case or do I only think so because of the cases I've heard of? Can anyone who knows about Japanese criminal law pitch in please. Are lenient sentences for sadistic crimes such as this common and if so, why?
I don't know much about their law system but I've read cases from Japan which shows how lenient the sentence for criminals. I also watched a case about an illegal immigrant who died due to police negligence. We can say they are way behind when it comes to law and protection.
@YouDon'tNeedToKnow woah there.. I’m not denying ur statement, but that’s a LEAP. Lower sentence years are also because Japan and many other Asian countries believe in rehabilitation. In junko’s case, her offenders were minors and therefore seen as a higher possibility of rehabilitation, so they got lower sentences.
I have being watching a lot of criminal cases lately on youtube, kidnappings, murders, torture. I've noticed myself just consuming that midia and while some have being really atrocious this is the one that almost made me cry... All the details, her responses when she was found, the fact that she couldn't age mentally... Everything is so SAD. I really hope she is well, like I REALLY REALLY hope
Just finished the last remaining minutes and GODDAMMIT why her father had to 'leave' her like that in such a sad way... right in front of her eyes. Also the penalty was ridiculous and I'm angry at other prisoners (and myself for wanting this) for not beating that guy so much he would have to eat with a straw for the rest of his disgusting and pathetic life. Sorry for the hatred comment, but this one really got me absolutely sad and angry :(
JohnAllen, I had to unsubscribe from him. The rubber lips thing was impossible to listen to. I tried speeding it up, which helped, but still, ugh. My antidote for him is Mike at That Chapter.
The fact that someone could experience what she did and then subsequently watch her father drown in front of her....life can be so torturously unfair man. I really hope she can find as much happiness as possible
The fact that men like this feel that they have the right to not only steal and keep captive someone else's child for years, but also assault them and even impregnate them in some cases is absolutely disgusting and insane. Why women and girls are treated like this, like less than human, I will never understand.
There are Plenty of other horrific cases of kidnapping abuse and neglect not having male kidnappers or female victims there are people in this world that are horrid and its why havIng people prepared to fight for their life is the best defense.
Keep watching and following crime stories on UA-cam and you’ll quickly realise it is not just men that are capable of such atrocities. (Excluding impregnation) and that it is far from just females who are often victims. You must be new to watching true crime stories on YT.
@@angelgonzalez4871 I’ve seen plenty of true crime stories on UA-cam that involve the abduction and abuse of victims where the perpetrators that abducted and abused them was a female and male couple. I don’t question that it is by far most often just males in abduction cases, but it’s also important to note and not disregard the number of cases where females have also been involved.
The thing I love the most about this channel is you’re not scared to relay the case details in full. It’s so important to respect the finer details of the case, even if uncomfortable, so people get a concrete understanding of the crimes perpetrated to remain informed. Love this channel and how much it’s grown over the past year.
I'm glad that she continued with receiving some counseling. I really do hope she's found some peace in her life and with her family. That has to be hard on all of them. May they never know such hardship and heartbreak ever again. She's had enough of that in her life. So sad.
i fully understood from the start that she was a child when she was abducted. but it really HIT me when the guy was talking about how she really seems/feels like “someone his age”.
I hope this woman knows that there are many people around the world who genuinely care about her & hope she is doing okay & is happy. We are so sorry that the world proved its ugliness to you at such a young age. 😞💞
It's damn disgusting that countries take crimes against women so lightly! It was horrible enough that he used a stun gun on a young girl, but his elderly mother? Then on top everything, he gets to be set free to go out into public? *shaking head* I'm sorry, but I just don't believe anyone male/female/child that commits a horrific crime against another should ever be let out into the public sector! My heart goes out to you dear one for what you had to endure at the hands of this, there is not word to describe what he is, and take back your power by living and recovering his torture!!!
I don't know your definition of "relatively healthy" but undernourished/weight, jaundiced, atrophied lower limb muscles, PTSD, mental developmental delay is really stretching the limits.
These are the stories that keep me from saying "that couldn't happen to my kids" and it terrifies me.. What happened to me keeps me from being naive, and thinking there's "good" in everyone. And every day, my faith in humanity gets a bit lower. I pray that she gets to feel true happiness and knows and feels loved. And that she is able to smile a real smile and laugh a real laugh. I hope ppl understand what I'm saying...
It seems a bit odd that they never mentioned any battery or torture charges in the court proceedings. I don't know how he could have only have gotten 10 years for what he put that poor girl though for all those years.

This is so disgusting, and to think the mother pretty much allowed it to happen by not wanting to offend her son. Seriously your kid doesn’t let you upstairs and you’re just like ok? Parents like this make me angry. I remember on the plane once a mother & son. He was very bratty from the beginning and after he ate the sandwich I had given him he wanted another. I explained to his mom that I was sorry but I didn’t have more. He through a fit and flat out smacked his mother. Full on. He might have been 10, her response? ‘Oh honey I’ll get you something later’ I was dumbfounded to say the least. All I can think is this doesn’t end well. Sorry, I’m going off on a rant but stories like this make me think of that kid.
Im so glad that didn’t happen around me. I would have had to say something to the little brat. I have no patience for little kids like that. I was once a bratty kid and I remember it clearly. I have a little cousin who really pushes me past my annoyance limit quick. She once hid on me outside in a bush while we were outside riding scooters so I would think she was kidnapped. She watched me run around screaming like a chicken with my head cut off I was all sweaty and red faced. I was just about to call 911 and she came out with a huge smile on her face. I screamed you better run little girl I might just spank you and she ran with her hands over her bum. I don’t hit kids but she scared the absolute life out of me I wanted her to think I would so she would be just as scared as I was. I immediately called her Mom and put her on the phone and made her tell her Mom what she did. That’s how I know she wanted me to think she was kidnapped.
Dude. Wtf. Lol he’s lucky he didn’t do that around me. I would have snatched his little ass up and whispered something surely to make him think twice about ever hitting his mother again. I’ve done it before and would do it again. A boy needs a father. Or at least an older male in his life because mommy just isn’t a threat after a certain age and it’s threats that keep men in line. That’s why men make threats themselves.
This case is so devastatingly sad, I pray that she can find peace. And its no way comparable to whst junko suffered. She went through a torture in my opinion that was the absolute worst ever.
I'm so happy she's living a normal life now. Although her entire childhood cannot be gained back, I hope she's doing well today. From what this video says and from what the internet has, she's living in peace. I only wish the best for her.
I believe she is doing fine. Read on Wiki She was 19 when she said this to the police. Quite calmly. "I was abducted near the school by a man who forced me into a car. [...] For nine years, I did not take a step out of the house. Today, I went out for the first time." Upon her rescue Sano was found to be healthy, although extremely thin and weak due to lack of exercise: she could barely walk. She was also dehydrated. Due to the lack of exposure to sunlight, she also had a very light skin tone and suffered from jaundice. While her body was that of a 19-year-old woman, mentally she acted like a child. She also suffered from posttraumatic stress disorder. Soon after her release, Sano was reunited with her family. Her mother did not initially recognize her, since she had last seen her at age 9. In the years following her release, Sano's physical health improved, and she now helps out in her family's rice paddy. As a result of her lack of normal social interactions during her captivity, she still has difficulties adjusting to normal life, has very few friends, and likes to take walks alone. She enjoys digital photography, especially of flowers, and obtained a driver's license. Neighbors comment that she is a fan of the local J. League soccer team Albirex Niigata, and goes to some of their games. The Sano family declines to comment on her ordeal.
Another crime channel to watch. But seriously this is so disturbing. Japan needs to step up their game with sentencing criminals because they are way behind when it comes to protecting children and females from creeps. I also can't believe people like this exists its so alarming
This channel is seriously so underrated. I really like your vibe and how you address these cases with the utmost respect. Thank you for making these videos!
The time, effort & research into these stories is second to none. Thank you for the care & respect you bring to this little victim & not sensationalizing that (insert choice expletive here)!!🙏🏻
Haven’t visited for awhile, really enjoy being back ! Thank you for bringing up this case, it’s one of the worst kidnappings I’ve ever heard off, but was not aware of many details that you added. I can’t believe she survived this evil sob! Horrifying
Thank you so much the upload, such a tragic story, I can imagine how Fusako must’ve felt throughout that horrid ordeal, but I’m glad that she able to lead somewhat of a decent life despite what happened to her and that she was able to return to her family
OMG!!!! As a parent, hearing any story of this sort, similar or worse is devastating. I can’t image the feeling of what her parents went thru, not only that, the little girl was just minding her own business and then in the control of some deranged twisted lunatic. What if he never hurt his mom n his mom not trying to call for mental help for that psycho. Glad she’s out of there and now beginning to live her life. I hope she’s doing well and enjoying her life from here on out. 😕
i have two theories one : I think the mother was being semi honest she started doubting what her son is doing on the second floor did and tried to get officials to check him mentally but no one listened to her second one was : she know and he was really aggressive towards his mother that she was terrified and didn't try to gave info to the officials early on
You're an amazing content creator & story teller. The depth of detail, the timeline, the follow up, the awareness & acknowledgement of questions that haven't been answered.. top notch! I wish I had power, money or influence so I could help blast your content all over the web
is he a amazing creator? There are often mistakes in his videos. There is also an error in this video. What he uses in the video is not Fusako Sano's photo, but Fusako Shigenobu's photo. Even if it was unintentional, I think it would be disrespectful to use a photo of a notorious terrorist as Fusako Sano herself.
Just when I began to question why they would turn this case into a manga I remember that Netflix and Hulu are notorious for making movies and tv shows about true crime cases, so I shouldn’t be surprised.
We live in such a shitty world that children and women are subjected to horrific crimes while their abuser gets off free or a low sentence and then they make entertainment about it idk how we live in a society where morals are supposed to be a big deal but this shit is allowed to happen

Maybe this is the reason why neighbours always check each other. How could someone close not know, or maybe they just dont care. Another soul crushing story from japan.
Reminds me a bit of Natascha Kampusch, an Austrian girl who was also locked up and sexually abused for her entire childhood. In that case, it was her own "father", if I remember correctly. He made up some story about her running away from home, even wrote a letter (or forced her to write a letter, not sure), but in reality he had constructed a secret small bunker within his cellar that was very securely locked with a keypad and everything and only he knew the code. The space was extremely small, and she had to live there together with the 4 or 5 children that she got from him raping her, never getting out. It was only found out when she got ill and her "dad" was forced to bring her into a hospital. He had also made up some story about that, pretending that she was the daughter of his "runaway" child or something like that, and she was so subdued that at first she didn't really feel confident enough to say the truth (or really say anything at all most of the time) but eventually after a lot of investigating and questioning police were able to find out what had really happened. For punishments he would just not give her food or water, and I think (though I'm really not sure about this one, it's been some time since I heard about it) he also had some sort of device that could regulare airflow into the bunker which he'd also use to punish her. It is also sometimes speculated that his wife knew something about it, but nothing can be proven and according to her she did not know anything because he was very authoritative and sometimes violent and he did not allow anyone to go into the cellar. Even if they had, the bunker he constructed was also soundproof, and no one except him knew the code to get in, so even if people went into the cellar there was no way for them to know anything.
I'm very glad that Sano-chan was able to live a relatively normal life after all of the horror she went through. More often than not, these kinds of cases end badly.
There is a strong reluctance to get involved in other family matters and even to help strangers in japan, that mother thought it was okay to givethe son his own private space and never intrude and accept his anger. That all allowed this crime to take place. Same with the other girl that got tortured to death upstairs while the parents knew she was there but stayed out of it. Secrets and pretend secrets are where evil can happen.
It makes me feel sick to the stomach that they think it is fishy that she never tried to escape..how dare they say such a thing? Has any of them been in that situation?? I have lived in her situation, for 7 years, and it was only when I was about to die that I found the strength and the will, to at least try, it didn't matter if I was caught and tortured or beaten for trying, because I was going to die anyway...and I no longer feared what happened, only then I was able to escape. I'm so glad that she was finally free and with her family...sending her a big hug ❤️
This story is so sad. As Sano will never be able to have a normal life because of this not to mention her family. Then her father passing away like he did. She has suffered tremendously. I hope she and her mother are able to live peacefully and be left alone now. And I certainly hope they are doing well and safe.

Look up the recent case of the Chinese woman who was kept chained in a basement by her captor. He barely even got a slap on the wrist.

They're too focused on "reform" and refuse to understand that people this sick and demented cannot be reformed.

She was never allowed outside so she certainly suffered from vitamin D deficiency.

You should see Korea, it's absolutely shit
Japan's crime rate is so low, but when something does happen...holy crap.
It’s not low, it’s just unreported

@@yerro504 yes but they were never rehabilitated. And neither were so many others. It's hard to justify rehabilitation when they don't give it
Evidence demonstrates sexual offenders can't be rehabilitated
It happens in America to
“The perpetrator died in his house, alone.” Good.
Sorry for the hatred comment, but this one really got me absolutely sad and angry :(
Like your style of presentation, it's really respectful and thoughtfully done.
And his voice isn't annoying like some other true crime channels on youtube. Here's looking at you Criminally Listed.
I like Dire Trip and Coffeehouse Crime. They're similar channels and two of my favorites.
I love your channel
JohnAllen, I had to unsubscribe from him. The rubber lips thing was impossible to listen to. I tried speeding it up, which helped, but still, ugh.
My antidote for him is Mike at That Chapter.

Poor Sano :(
The fact about her Dad's passing breaks my heart. I hope she's doing alright.
I will never understand someone's need to grandstand and virtue signal on an atrocious crime to make it about sex etc.
@@ashleydunstan5393 Yea that much is obvious its not just men of course. But most of all of these cases include male predators

It's a sick, sadistic voyeurism, and we love it.
It's a miracle she survived as she was in such a poor state. I'm glad she was freed and I'm hoping she's doing well today.
“regular piece of shit to a criminal piece of shit” 😭😭😭

Thank you for providing a case that i personally havent heard about before. Ive been following the true crime community for the past 5-6 years and its usually pretty difficult to find cases i havent heard about. Im subscribed!✋
I hope this girl is living a loving, healthy, stable, life and wish her the best. So sorry she went through this horrific situation by that monster
note: the picture shown at 0:05 - and other multiple times during the video - doesn't belong to Fusako Sano but to Fusako Shigenobu, a Japanese communist activist and the former leader of the Japanese Red Army (JRA).
Your subtle sarcastic comments are absolute highlights of every video. I cannot praise enough your thoroughness, emphaty, genuineness etc., but your personality is...well, this all makes your personality 🤦🏻♀️
And that explains why you're one of my favourites on YT.
Thank you for talking about cases that are, I presume, totally unknown in these parts of the world (Europe, that is...) and for making every one a bit easier to "digest" with your sense of humour.
Greetings from Croatia
Damn kids are awful
He will probably end up killing her when he's a teen.
He was in need to be corrected badly. Bad parenting is an abuse too
Dude.
I'm still confused why mental health is still taboo in Japan and South Korea with how advanced they are
This case is so devastatingly sad, I pray that she can find peace. And its no way comparable to whst junko suffered. She went through a torture in my opinion that was the absolute worst ever.
Hey, you calm down... She didn't die.
I'm so happy she's living a normal life now. Although her entire childhood cannot be gained back, I hope she's doing well today. From what this video says and from what the internet has, she's living in peace. I only wish the best for her.
You did an excellent job of telling this story. I feel so bad for that poor girl. May God gve her strength.
Holy moly. Can't believe I've never heard of this case before. That poor girl ♡ I hope she's living a peaceful life right now
I wish this young lady all the happiness in the world 💙
I believe she is doing fine.

She was 19 when she said this to the police.
Quite calmly.
"I was abducted near the school by a man who forced me into a car. [...] For nine years, I did not take a step out of the house. Today, I went out for the first time."
Upon her rescue Sano was found to be healthy, although extremely thin and weak due to lack of exercise: she could barely walk.
The Sano family declines to comment on her ordeal.
thank you

Another crime channel to watch. But seriously this is so disturbing. Japan needs to step up their game with sentencing criminals because they are way behind when it comes to protecting children and females from creeps. I also can't believe people like this exists its so alarming
A bit of a correction, though... The woman in the thumbnail is Fusako Shigenobu, not Fusako Sano.
Not sure why, but looking up Fusako on google images, all of them are Shigenobu, not Sano. Weird.

Bless her heart she went through pure hell by the hands of this monster. I really hope she finds peace in her life.
I hope this woman is experiencing prosperity and happiness. She went through a lot and I wish he'd the best in life. 💘
i have two theories
one : I think the mother was being semi honest she started doubting what her son is doing on the second floor did and tried to get officials to check him mentally but no one listened to her
second one was : she know and he was really aggressive towards his mother that she was terrified and didn't try to gave info to the officials early on
You're an amazing content creator & story teller.
Yeahhhh, I wasn't able to find the whole thing but I hope it's at least respectful
We live in such a shitty world that children and women are subjected to horrific crimes while their abuser gets off free or a low sentence and then they make entertainment about it idk how we live in a society where morals are supposed to be a big deal but this shit is allowed to happen
At least she's free and he died.
I am all over this. Thank you Dire Trip for all your research and hard work putting out videos. Enjoy your weekend.

Wow...I can't even begin to imagine what that poor girl went thru for all those years. 😢 I'm so very glad she survived the ordeal, and seems to being doing as well as possible under the circumstances... 💕
So little was done!
Did the detectives not even try and review similar cases? He was a KNOWN PREDATOR!
Why on earth was this douche allowed to stay a freeman after trying to kidnap another girl?!
Also, why didn't the mom get help right away?
Poor girl! 💔
As a survivor of sex and labor trafficking. I need to stop watching these. 😢 So sorry this happened to you Sono.
What a brave girl, praying she has a beautiful life going forward
Having to watch her father drown after all that she endured is just so awful. Some people truly have it so much worse than others. 😢
_"And yet, when women say they are afraid of men, the men ask why."_
this is insane. & the act that people really basically blamed her, like she was NINE! or course she was TERRIFIED to leave. 🙄😳😭
Man, this is a good channel. I am glad I found it.
This story is so sad. As Sano will never be able to have a normal life because of this not to mention her family. Then her father passing away like he did. She has suffered tremendously. I hope she and her mother are able to live peacefully and be left alone now. And I certainly hope they are doing well and safe.
