If Being Suspended With Pay Is A Punishment, Punish MEEE !!
People in civil service, are like you, can not be punished twice for the same crime/incident. So they are put on leave with pay during the investigation. If they are put on leave without pay during the investigation then that is a punishment and then could not have further punishment done to them. I hope this explanation helps you and anyone else who questions why this happens. Just as every citizen is innocent until proven guilty so are civil servants.

Yeah, but who is going to actually take up the charges. You can charge public employees for literally crimes they commit on camera, and they will never have their charges processed because the prosecutors will never take the charges up.

One last thing. If they call law enforcement with lies, I think they should be prosecuted for calling with a false accusation.

I’d make a complaint to the state bar. He committed a crime by making a false report “intruder trying to enter secure areas”.

Among other crimes. As he was acting in the capacity of the village attorney he was acting under the color of law. He impeded the auditors freedom of movement, infringed on his 1st and 4th amendment rights. Think given the number of actors here and the threat of arrest 18US241 Conspiracy to deprive and 18US242 Deprivation of rights under the color of law would easily apply here. Given the facts we see in the video this would likely result in a fine or up to a year in federal prison for each count that could be successfully leveled against them.

It's truly unbelievable how every single one of those public servants acted. I mean the silence and blank stares from the 2 officers by the door speaks volumes. I mean it baffles me how all these grown ass adults act, on top of said adults in their roles they are in. I LOVE our cameras! They are keeping us much safer from our government employees.
So all government employees are bad? Please don’t be so closed-minded. I work for a county government and one of my main responsibilities is to get landowners signed up to receive an annual tax credit, giving them their tax dollars back to them! I’ve never treated a citizen “like dirt” and not one of the other people I work with would do that. I grant you all, the fact, there are some govt employees that do, but to say with such seeming derision that we are all bad is just ignorant. These audits can keep those poorly administered government agencies striving for a higher bar of serving their citizens.

That attorney acted like a crazy man. It's satisfying to know that he resigned. In reality he was probably fired, but they officially report him resigning to give the appearance that he was not fired, so he can pursue other employment opportunities. He said "don't go into my office", or something on that order. Why would anyone want to go into that idiots office? It probably stinks of corruption in there.

Seems like an inordinately large number of "Constables" for such a small town. Interestingly, "Constables" require almost no law enforcement training, and almost anyone can apply to be one, and they usually only require an appointment from a judge or magistrate. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they're all related in some way.

As a Long Islander, I am very grateful to have an auditor working our villages and towns. I say this as someone with a bunch of cop friends and a family that that has some connections in local politics. Not because I've seen my friends and family do anything shady -- to the contrary -- but because history tells us how easily power corrupts. These "public servants" need to be politely but strongly reminded of our rights as citizens.

While I largely agree with you, I also think that the taxpayers kinda need it to come out of the public funds also. Thes towns usually have extremely low voter turnout for elections. All the elected officials including the judges are usually decided by very low vote counts. Sometimes the entire turnout is only a few hundred, or a few thousand if it's a bit larger town. So, maybe after a few lawsuits taken out of the city/town budget they will start getting involved in the process and get off their asses and show up to vote.
