I KNOW! This man just talked about going to a sheep port, went to the sheep port, forgot, noticed he went to a sheep port, used it once, and then, with the perfect opportunity to get sheep to use in the sheep port in front of him, monopolized the incredibly rare grain instead. Never change Jon.
Did you seriously complain about drawing the monopoly card in a game where you own the sheep port and your primary opponent is the bloody sheep baron? Come on Jon.
Jon- "If I roll a 7, I've screwed myself" Dice - *I'm about to end this man's whole career* *EDIT* 100 likes? Thank you all! This is the most likes I've ever had!
Also your initial road from your second settlement should have gone towards to 9-10 wood, and you would have been in position to build a settlement there immediately after the road you were able to build on your first turn.
19:52 I see the players will have no trouble falling asleep with all the sheep being given. 21:42 Of course Jon, it would be dicey since it's a dice game.
In my last game I was starved for resources. We went around the table three times with me getting no resources at all. I still love this game a lot, but it can be frustrating if you get unlucky.
I really love this game. Played it with my brother and sister, shouting at each other for placing the village and road here and there, casually screwing everyone by rolling seven, blocking the leading player using ridarre, trying to bargain for resources, and lose because someone unexpected have like all the point card. Fun game
when jon started talking about monopoly's in the beginning i thought he was going to be good. but he made many, many mistakes. still enjoyed the video though :)
Definitely under used the sheep port. Not only with the monopoly, but also at 30:00 when you could have used it to get ore and a city instead of a development card
oh god 2 sheep spawn with 8s and right next to the sheep port . the best move would have been to place your first town in the intersection of the 2 wool and iron. that would let you place 3 towns on the wool and one town on the wool port. then you can just port trade wool the entire game
I am a bit confused with the game rules. Is there any reason why AI player Jean did not connect her north and south territories with 2 pieces of road,to make use of already existing 2 other pieces of road in the south, and get the longest road achievement way sooner?
My personal favorite game of cataan was of course, nearly won with sheep. I went from last to second by stealing all of the sheep on the board (monopoly card) maniacally laughing as I trade them in at a port for whatever I wanted and then losing by 1
*Puts on nerd glasses* It annoyed me how much you weren't prioritizing not getting yourself blocked off. Your first move should've been to head towards that double wood area towards the bottom right. You already had a good source of brick, a decent source of wood would've given you a great stance for building roads very easily which is something you need for the early game. Also, that would've made it much more difficult for Jean to get longest road from the start. She effectively had complete control over the entire east part of the island meaning if was very easy for her to connect her own road as well as acquire practically every resource.
At no point did anyone slam their fists/drink/food dish on the table and cause all the figurines to scatter, setting the game back by a full 10 minutes. My immersion is ruined. 0/10
So Jean could have won that many turns earlier because she could have linked her two roads into one big one because Jon was not trying to block her. Jon really could have done better if he had tried to make more roads.
If you'd monopolized wood or brick (preferably wood), she wouldn't have been able to build roads to beat you. Frankly I saw that long road coming by the point you chose to try and screw over Lin (when she could always compete for longest road by building around the coast) instead of expanding east to preempt Jean and make wood less of a rare resource for you by both making a city by the desert and expanding to the wood port. I have never played Catan before.
when you have a sheep port and monopoly grain instead
*FACEPALM*
You...you have watched Jon's other videos, right?
I KNOW! This man just talked about going to a sheep port, went to the sheep port, forgot, noticed he went to a sheep port, used it once, and then, with the perfect opportunity to get sheep to use in the sheep port in front of him, monopolized the incredibly rare grain instead. Never change Jon.
One of those reasons why I can only handle so much of MATN a week lol
I even questioned the same thing... Since he was after grain...
That is Jon for ya
„I dont need 2 sheep, i dont see myself building a settlement anytime soon“ - owner of the sheep port
Jon: "Would you like some brick for a lot of wool?"
Jon, a minute later: "DO NOT GIVE HER BRICK, under ANY circumstances"
Did you seriously complain about drawing the monopoly card in a game where you own the sheep port and your primary opponent is the bloody sheep baron? Come on Jon.
OH GOD THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO GOOD.
@@ManyATrueNerd Perception -sheep :D
Wanted to see you and Claire play the tabletop of Settlers of Catan,
but this will do
Never play Settlers of Catan with friends that you want to keep as friends...
@@ManyATrueNerd how about not playing any board game with those who you want to keep as friends?
@@alexanderchristopher6237 There are coop board games.
So long LOSERS! lol
@@ManyATrueNerd that actually happened to me! Xd
He should have used Monopoly on Sheep then traded them for Grain...
or the brick/wood to deny road building
should've monopolised the brick or wood to stop jean getting those roads. oh well, wonderful to see this getting played on here.
"Do you have wood for sheep?" < = that sentence can only be said in this game without guilt.

-20 luck to go with the -20 perception I suppose.
I may be wrong, but wouldn't the best move have been to Monopoly wool to trade off for other resources?
Yup. That was really hard to watch.
I love how, all across the world, there's no consistency in what people call ore/stone/rock.
Isn't it shale >_>
I call it "iron."
We should just rename it Spock in honour of Leonard nimoy
Same with sheep/wool and clay/brick.
Not only did Jon screw himself with the robber, he also could have used years of plenty to get down a city instead of a setlement... god damnit Jon
Let's face it - he has no basic understanding of this game.

Sheep port master strategy has given me more wins than anything else.
As they say in knights of the dinner table .. "Ive got wood for sheep .. why are you all laughing at me"
Catan is my favorite board game. Thanks for this Jon!
I love catan but I was shouting so much at your decisions, right from where you placed your first settlement...
Full agreement here, some of those decisions where quite frustrating.

Jon forgot the main rule when playing this game. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT 7s WHEN YOU DONT WANT IT ROLLED!
33:00 You discard half of the cards rounded down, when you are over 7 (8 and more) resources
19:52 I see the players will have no trouble falling asleep with all the sheep being given. 21:42 Of course Jon, it would be dicey since it's a dice game.
In my last game I was starved for resources. We went around the table three times with me getting no resources at all. I still love this game a lot, but it can be frustrating if you get unlucky.
the best bit is 27:12 when Jon says "I need a 4 or a 5" and the game technically gives him that
I really love this game. NO! You must build a big mega structure with your off board pieces or else what is the friggin' point?
I remember my first game of Catan. In one go I slammed down longest road network, largest army and most cities. Won me the game.
39 minutes in. Lin has 3 victory points and no cities, Jean is about to win, and Jon is still antagonistic to Lin
To be honest i was tempted to get a switch just so i can play this when i heard it was being made. Nice to see you play it. Everyone loves a good hex.
Watching this at work, yelling monopolize the wood, Jon... glad I'm pretty isolated right now, otherwise would be getting some weird looks.
Definitely one of the best board games ever! Thanks for this, Jon!
Would love to see this either in a livestream or another video, possibly with you against Claire, or others?
Great video as always :)
Started playing this about a year ago. I love this game!
I absolutely love this board game, I have it and we played the crap out of it in college.
A : MY FAVORITE GAME
B : I've heard it described as Economics and Rage
So this what happen in Civ when you make a new settler
Yess Jon, monopolise those bricks!
Wait
Jon?
JON??
I would love another video or two about this or a livestream would be great too!
God i love settlers of Catan, i just wish the game loved me enough to actually give me any resources when i play.
Id love to see more of this
This video was exceptionally enjoyable for some reason.
Thanks for making such wonderful content!

Why is the desert not in the middle?
I’m going to be honest I would be the one with my roads settlements and cities in a massive pile
In a 4 player game brick is less valuable. And the best spot on this board is clearly the 8-5-10 even with the 8 being a sheep
Please do more of this! Either a weekly series or livestreams! 😁

*Jon!* Scythe is available on Steam now! It might even be on sale!
Oh a series on this would be exquisite. Jonny my boi plz
The game music seems familiar...The Guild 2?
yes that music definitely from the guild 2

we also can't forget that one person that treat their pieces like lego and tries to build a bigger house
yeah I was that person
How did Jean get Jon to focus his ire the other way when she was his automatic rival for the east from turn 1
Do a series or live stream please

You should play this with some friends like Nerdcubed
I know what went wrong, you didn't build one way roads
This is fantastic just becasue the board game itself can be difficult to keep neat, which is an absolutely necessary
I have never played this game and I feel I would have uses the +2 resouece card after rolling.
When are we playing together? you seemed pretty keen when you DM'd me about it
Why is 12 coming up more than 4 and 5 combined? Because this is Catan.
I wouldn't mind watching a livestream of this.
JON you un-perceptive dunce you didn't see Jean getting a brick. You should've monopised brick!
I have sheep, I need wood.

Good Job, Jon
Surely brick was the sensible one to monopolise?
so much Jonning this video D:
Is it just my friends, or does Catan lead to arguments every single time it's played?
It is, it's horrible for that. Or maybe people are just horrible.
Well, now I want to play catan. I have base game with sailors dlc and expansions for more players. Only things I dont have are people to play with

You could have had 6 wool total and gotten all the resources you needed
So Jean could have won that many turns earlier because she could have linked her two roads into one big one because Jon was not trying to block her. Jon really could have done better if he had tried to make more roads.
