I absolutely love Islanders, it's such a great time and the cell shaded style is so welcome for the genre. I always enjoy how you explain games, it's so well done and you always simplify it the perfect amount
This game is sooo chill. It's like Tetris with houses. It also always makes me happy to see Jon enjoying himself so much. Thank you for the amazing content MATN.
Mate, unless your standard for hard is somewhere beyond dark souls, Tetris is sodding Tense. A simple mistake and you're most likely going to lose it all.
It's so lovely how organic the towns the entire island looks. There is obviously some min-maxing in the game, but you can't just create the big ol' square block of anything, instead you have to work with the terrain and the buildings you've already built - and that just looks so good.
when you unlocked the temple, you actually had a totally empty plateau, which i think it would have fitted on.. sadly you were too excited to place the mansions on it first
The temple gives -75 points without adjacency bonusses, and it has pretty limited range, so that plateau would probably have had the same issues as the places he was able to put it, just slightly less bad.
You've never played games before!?!?!? Let me start you out right, there is a mobile game called last day on earth, it is free to play, artistically similar to this game, and is very fun. Weeks of fun as a matter of fact.
I think the city center should probably be built after the rest, it gest 5 off houses, while houses get 6 off of it, but it has massive range so it should be worth more? 42:05 the park could have gone next to the fields :D
Reminds me of a webgame Da nplayed. Planet I think, and it was just the essence of chill. Like if it were in production for as many years as it'd been online and it developed really high-level intricacies. Also I Love the fact that at the start it's a lovely, simple, calming game and by the mid-point you're extensively agonising where to place buildings for maximum return, or at least minimum loss.
Yay! I just found this game couple days ago and fell in love, it looks so relaxing and cute af. Haven't bought it yet (too many games waiting for play through) but this will help for now.
@@thedumbdog1964 Its referring to the roman calendar which was based on how many years since the founding of rome and the myth is that two brothers Romulus and Remus couldnt agree which hill to camp on (which to be fair there were 7 options) so as a result they fought over it and Romulus won hence why it is called Rome instead of Reme.
When are the imperator streams being uploaded, as the embargo seems to be over with others uploading videos Edit: I didn't realise the first one was already out, thank you for informing me!
My first try, got to the ice island. I screwed up since I left no space to put down a temple that doesnt put me in the negative. :( If i had to have a problem with this game, it would be the fact that placing things in tight formation (mainly houses and mansions) can be really annoying sometimes. Its a near, not perfect, fit meaning you eventually break the housing block grid by a tiny bit as you build out, no matter how careful you are.
I picked up the Devs other game, Superflight, in a Steam sale over Xmas for ~£1. Very similar visual style and very good fun, probably not enough depth for a vid though. Off to buy this now.
Watching you play this was both difficult and relaxing at the same time. A most enjoyable watch. I love it! Please play it again for us! I'm going to be buying this game, I think :)
Matas Yes, you need to plan ahead to get the most out of the temple, which seems extremely difficult in the first few islands. Maybe when you can start placing statues yourself it becomes more manageable.
A lot of people become too successful... You can imagine the small business owner who gets up, happy, and relaxed, goes to work whistling, says hello to his co-workers, essentially his extended family, and he's able to take the days in and the days out, the grinds, and the occasional hits, and everything's fine, but then he grows, and he has to hire more people, and there's strangers in the midst, and there's added stress, added complexity, employee rollover, personal life events come in and add to the stress, and since there's no more ease or release, the pressure build up, and he eventually either goes on vacation, burns out, or sells, but whatever the case may be, what he had is gone... If he goes on vacation he will come back to a medium business, and delegate. If he burns out, everything crumbles, and he may not be able to start over because of opportunity, ideas, fear, or angst. If he sells, he will not be able to start again, because he knows he can't keep, or hold onto what he loved... Sometimes, or after a certain point, it's not about growing the numbers anymore, it's about staying at a comfortable level... Regardless, it takes energy to stop a moving object, so it's not something you can just "stop and hope for the best", you actually have to put a bit of effort to steer the curve, before engaging autopilot, and since it's your first time you'll also have to learn how to use cruise control and get comfortable with it, get experience with it, ... like a car, .... : |
God the small inefficiencies are killing me the one angle of rotation the one space to the left the one building not up against something actual torture
But why would you want that game of violent conquest when you can watch this calming city-builder... :) Mind you as soon as I'm less mellow I'll probably be agreeing with you
@@shadowqueen1701 Haha fair point I do love his history lessons... also his alternate history where a cretan archer became emperor and took a rocket into space

That sounded a lot like Bob Ross.
I got this game a week ago and I cannot stop playing it, it's so addictive. Best 5 bucks I've spent in a long while.
bought it immediately after seeing 5 minutes of this video, seems like the perfect game for me

I buy so many games because of you Jon. Thanks for the chill game recommendation.
It reminds me of one of those GROW games you’d play on one of those “free games” sites.

So happy about how long this video is! Love islanders
Jon would have been great at one of those 70s art shows.
Always a pleasure John.
