The robot council member wants you to make *more* robots and when you pick that mission the robot says "One step closer to domination" while its arms are in a plotting position ... Well I'm sure nothing will *ever* go wrong with that :)
Jon: Starts by creating a colony on a planet completely covered in water And so Subnautica begins. Didn't know Jon was one of the Architects. Maybe Al-An should be informed of this
Been playing for a few hours this evening. My one serious tip for anyone starting out. Don't colonize planets on the last 4 months of a year. Use those months to scan. Happiness is deducted at year end so use the first 8 months to colonize and fix issues. If you stick to that mindset your final score will be a lot better. If you let happiness drop a bunch you will be suffering big time on the score and that unlocks other game modes.
This reminds me of Star Ruler 2. It has a similar system of different planets producing different things and then feeding them to specific other worlds.
Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate. I guess 3 out of 4 ain't bad, but it would need some kind of military mechanics before it truly fits the 4x definition.
Jon: "You can undo anything except discovering new planets" Me: "Ah, so probing should probably be done in batches then, to limit how much you're cutting yourself off from adjusting your construction." Jon: *haphazardly probes whenever he needs new stuff* Me: *facepalms*
I feel like this game really needs something to work towards at the end. It looked really fun but then when he mentioned the game just ends after X years it felts kinda empty. Like sure there is endless mode but that feels like it would just become doing the same thing over and over again at the end of your empire. I figured the tech would keep adding new things and there would be some stuff with the precursors but the ending just feels kinda arbitrary
@@cacs2201 You have clearly never played either the original game or its sequel. The xbox version IS an abomination with premade enclosures, but the original PC games were spectacular, with dinosaurs, mermaids, bigfoot, yetis, and so many mods to go along with those already existing animals that you'd never run out of content.
@@librarianseth5572 it is also a REALLY dated game, and the square block gameplay just doesn't work that well this day This without talking about the need for it to be a long series that doesn't fit with the rest of the channel I love the original game (2 was also a disaster), but they just wouldn't work as well as Planet Zoo
@@cacs2201 Not a long series - there's a template for the original game where your zoo will have unlimited money and everything unlocked, along with no animal rights people to shut you down. Zoo Tycoon 2 had its flaws, but the ability to go first person and clean my animals was still great
@@librarianseth5572 yes, there's always a sandbox mode... But then what's the fun? Really, the game doesn't let you build crazy enclosures or anything. As I said, it is a dated game
Are you ever going to do another Stellaris series or is that game dead on this channel? I really did love your Stellaris content, you got me into that game a long time ago and I still love it even to this day. :]
oh jon production and consumption getting so mixed up :P also very much misunderstanding how culture works :P I do think they could do with adding the ability to trade stuff across established slips so you can send something from the top of your system to the bottom. Just make it so that doing so gives each slip it travels through have an exponential drain on your income, maintenance for increased traffic and extra measures vs pirates etc. This would solve 2 issues: the abundance and relative worthlessness of money beyond early game and planets being stuck with excess productions with no real way to deal with them. While also adding the optional depth of deciding whether you can afford to set up these expensive routes, which routes should take priority (more routes passing through same path makes it super expensive very quickly)
I can't really say it's a pretty game -- for one, the planets close up remind me of lightbulbs with bugs flying around them. But I can NEVER say no to Space Monopoly! there aren't that many games that concentrate on economics or business that much.
Being short isn't really an interesting idea. Most 4X games, including Stellaris and Civ, can be played in a couple of hours if you just choose a small map with only a few empires. Hell, the original Master of Orion only took a couple of hours for a full game. Just because they give the option of epic long games doesn't mean you have to take it. Also, this seems to be Star Ruler 2 with the fleets removed. Which could be nice idea for a more chilled game, but it's hardly a new idea.

It's like an opposite Soylent Green
Making a "grand strategy game" (as they're calling it) that only lasts 60 minutes is ambitious if nothing else. Gotta give the devs props for that.
Another fun example of this is Space Tyrant, one of the last games TB ever recommended IIRC

Biomass is people Jon! - Clare, probably
Biomass must be incinerated
Correction: it was people. 😈
We did use to have a Soylent Foodstuffs tech in the game! Though that was sadly cut before the last beta, for gameplay reasons.
"Humans can make biomass" - How soylant started...
Best take on "connect the dots" I ever seen.
Awesome, I was hoping there would be an endless mode - this looks like a really fun relaxing game.

it's an entire game based around a version of the traveling salesman problem.
and maybe in the background an AI is collecting the best game strategies to learn :D
We're selling the algorithms derived from player behavior to Amazon (not really).
40k Administratum-Simulator just without war
This was wonderful. Thank you for sharing it with us! I’d love more once it launches in full!
I think comparing it with the big 4x's is stretching it a bit. But it's a neat puzzle game.
Your one offs, for me, are the heart of your channel. 600+ games... love em ❤
Excellent job on the pun sir, one of the really good ones. I'm looking forward to watching this.
