In modern Exandria, Each of the betrayer gods has an artifact like this and each contains the soul of a fiend. Xartaza was used to create the mace and she resides within it.
OK. That's what I THOUGHT happened when I first watched it, but it was like 3 in the morning and I wasn't sure. And then watching this clip makes it seem like he just killed the erinyes with it, making me even more confused.

So I didn't completely follow this during the show. Did he MAKE the mace out of the other person? Or just kill them with it?
I think so yeah it used to be a person
the mace was the erinyes xartaza
Asmodeus killed the erinyes named Xartaza and created the Mace of the Black Crown.

I love how Travis has gone neck-deep in the lore of Exandria to the point of recognizing Mercer's custom magic items just by the description.
He's a CEO, good to know he's keeping up with the lore
its not a custom item, its also in forgotten realms
I thought it was part of standard DnD lore, not just unique to Mercer's Exandria.
