I think you are missing the point. Pat and his crew are very talented. People were afraid ESPN changed their style. People didn;t like ESPN because they have gotten worse over the years. As for SAS, he is the epitome of double standards. His remarks about Asian and apologize (so fake and his last comment "I still stand by what I said"- if it was a white person, he/she would have been fired.
I don’t think anybody thought he wouldn’t do well people were concerned that ESPN would make him change how he ran his show.

1) Alabama can win on a hail Mary against a 6-6 Auburn and not be penalized for not being dominant but Florida State can win against a number #14 Louisville with a 3rd string quarterback and be penalized for it?
2) The Acc had a winning record against the SEC this year 6-4
3) The argument Alabama getting in off of reputation is trash. If we are awarding playoff spots off of reputation there is no point in playing the season.

We move to 4 teams, add in the human element and everyone is still mad SEC is in because they look better than FSU without starting qb. Now, we'll go to a 12 team field and everyone will be screaming because the SEC will have multiple teams in every year and likely win it a majority of the time.

Honestly, I love Greeny's take on this. I understand why Bama is in, but I'm not ready to rule out FSU from making a game plan to take out Michigan. They'd have a month to figure out how to best prepare their 2nd string QB.

Michigan would have LOVED to get to play FSU over Bama. The truth is that TCU got lucky last year, and then Georgia exposed them. FSU has even less of a chance than that TCU team did BECAUSE of the Travis injury. You don’t beat elite teams when your best play is in wildcat formation.
fsu with their backup QB isn’t better then any top 10 team the playoffs are the 4 best teams. If fsu was at 4 michigan would be so happy but it’s bama and idk if u seen michigans reaction but they do not wanna play alabama cuz they know its more challenging.

Pat McAfee and Shannon Sharpe are both breaths of fresh air for ESPN. I seriously have not consumed this much ESPN content EVER! You can also see how revitalized other journalists are with their additions. I don't think I've ever seen Stephen A. Smith with this much juice and moxy. You can tell how much fun he is having now.

From the jump and get go Even as a Buckeye fan like I am, this is def the Alabama and Clemson invitational over an actual Playoff games. So sick and unfair.
Why is it unfair?? I’m a Buckeye fan too (and don’t like Alabama), but beating #1 Georgia in the championship game and having a much better strength of schedule trumps FSU’s record and conference championship.

Your issue is with the system. The committee's job is stated to be to pick the four best teams. The problem is the system and this is the last year of said system. This stuff happens It's happened to the SEC before look at Auburn in the BCS era 2004.

Greeny is right...sort of. Strength of record should be one of the key factors in getting in the CFP. However, your strength of record (Washington 1 - Michigan 2 - FSU 3 - Bama 4) HAS to be weighed against your strength of schedule (Washington 9 - Michigan 35 - FSU 55 - Bama 5). To find a weaker schedule than FSU in the final CFP top 25 you have to go all the way down to 23 with Liberty, and that bar doesn't get any lower than Liberty.
If FSU had played a top 10 strength of schedule (Indiana, Rutgers, Michigan State, Florida, Alabama, Ole Miss, Ohio State, Arkansas, Washington, LSU), they wouldn't be unbeaten and this conversation wouldn't be happening. Much like Michigan, FSU plays in a weak conference, but so does every other team that doesn't play in the SEC (given that the Pac12 is no longer a thing).
Why are the top three strength of schedule teams Big Ten then? Because all three played Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan. They all lost every one of those games. The Big Ten, Big XII and ACC are weak. The Pac12 is gone. The SEC does and will continue to dominate college football for decades to come. The Michigan reaction to the announcement of Alabama at four tells you all you need to know. They thought they were getting the easy beatdown in FSU. They know they can't beat Bama.

They changed bamas strength of schedule it went from 31st in one graphic last Wednesday to 5th on selection day. Did it change that much because they beat Georgia? I thought sos was only for the regular season? genuinely just curious. Also by the cfp committee logic, why didn't Oklahoma get that bowl game against Oregon if texas got in because they beat bama who beat Georgia? Oh because liberty remained undefeated and proved themselves?, sorry fsu. All in all, I can't wait for the 12-team playoff because truly I feel like every college fanbase in America has been getting fucked over by the committee for years and their logical fallacies they don't even follow themselves.
SOS changes weekly however Bama has been around 5 for a good while now as more and more games were played. Due to sports betting however it continues to update it actually moved to 3 after the conference championship weekend and FSU moved to about 50. For those that keep it going. However the main models did indeed stop updating. The graphic you saw was either for something else or just wrong and updated accordingly.
The Liberty decision was done as a rule because they have to take a group of 5 school that achieves a certain ranking. A concession made because otherwise the playoff would not have been approved by the NCAA.
Lastly I will say this. The ACC is a primary reason that there is not a 12 team playoff this year. It was supposed to start this year but the ACC, Big10, and PAC12 rejected and delayed the process in the 12th hour because TX and OU joined the SEC. We know how that ended and the playoff still got signed off on, just a year later than originally planned. And that is on the ACC.

Strength of schedule matters more than strength of record. FSU’s qb being hurt plus that last awful ACC CHAMPIONSHIP game vs Louisville, punt after punt after punt. Alabama definitely deserved the spot after beating the No. 1 ranked team in the country

The committee and computer thing has and will always be stupid. We’ve never had a playoff system. We’ve only had a pick’em tournament. We should have an actual playoff system that nobody picks whom goes. It should be a win your way in and no one picks who goes. These discussions are a waste of time cause they don’t want to have a correct system.
The committee got it right and wrong at the same time. Not including FSU was the right decision. It’s not just about your record, it’s about having the best teams in the top-4. As constructed right now FSU is not one of those teams for numerous reasons. We can point to the fact that the ACC is garbage this year for starters. Going undefeated in a crap conference and your Heisman-hopeful QB goes down? A 16-6 win where you can’t move the ball against Louisville told the committee and the people that pay attention all we needed to know.
Where they got it wrong is leaving Georgia out in my opinion. I don’t know how UT beating OkSt vaults them 4-spots. OkSt lost to S. Alabama and UCF by a combined score of 88-10 this year. Georgia’s resume is better than UT’s: tougher conference, better loss.

Stephen A. spot on when it comes to the "juice." A lot of the "secondary" bowls were probably foaming at the mouth early in the season at the chance to have Colorado in their bowl game, just for the recognition and TV ratings.
I think they got it RIGHT by putting Alabama over FSU. Beating #1 Georgia is MASSIVE, and FSU is too weak to be in the top 4. Even with an undefeated record and conference championship, Alabama deserves to get in over FSU… and I can’t stand Bama.
I could see an argument either way tho.. that’s just my opinion.

As a lifelong Alabama fan let me apologize to the college football world for what happened this weekend. We are so sorry that we beat the #1 two times defending national champion. How dare us? I also want to apologize for having a 50 point higher strength of schedule ranking. How dare we. And the fact that we have a healthy starting quarterback is of course unforgivable. We also are responsible for the Florida State offense in the ACC championship game. What in the world were we thinking about subjecting the world to that? We are bad fans for that behavior. So forgive us Florida State. We have learned our lesson and will never do it again.
