Thank you for these clarification, very useful. Acquiring Hoya knowledge makes me feel better 🤣 my nephew helpfully took all the name tags off all 63 hoyas in my collection. Now I’m playing name that Hoya. New tags incoming, eventually, maybe 😂
Going to edit some names on instagram posts right now 😅 Also there is nothing better then nicely done excel spreadsheet for anything in life or that is just my ocd? 😅😅😅
I’m late to the Hoya game but this was so informative, just started collecting and wanted to write out markers for each. Have also been binge watching your videos lol. Thank you for this!
This was such a welcome, needed video! As a former teacher, I think you had a wonderful way of teaching a subject that could be tricky. One of my pet peeves is people who do not put labels with their plants, and then unsuccessfully try to remember the name. What you said about ascension numbers always being with the plant really brings this labeling point home. I’m older so I think of when one dies -how are the next owners to know the correct name of a plant in a collection?! ( and put a note when one is especially valuable ) This is written over a year later, (Jan. 2023) I am happy to see in your newer videos you are now putting labels in your plants, Miro! 😄🪴
Wouldn't it be wonderful to see a book loaded with information on each hoya! A page of photos for each, including leaves and blooms in different stages and a description of fragrance. Information on its origin, climate, prefered growing conditions etc. Maybe a history and how it was named, if known. I would LOVE a copy of a book like that! And I say this with all respect for your videos because a book could never amount in value of what you give. (humorous entertainment included).
First can i say....I just love your videos. You are so witty or is it whitty? I'll just say funny. EVERYONE needs to learn this and put it into practice. I've been making the effort to write my names correctly, but then people confuse me with all this Splash, with splash, 'Spash', splashy, . I did not know that the variegated versions of hoyas were not a different species. So much to learn. You make it fun. Oh love the video clip inserts.
My dear sweet Miro.......As I was watching one of your posts for the umpteenth time I was happy to discover something we have in common that I have not at all heard you discuss but would love you to tell us everything you know about this. The hoya and orchids are my loves and I never tire hearing what you have to say about them...however I have recently fallen 'head over heels' for the 'jungle' cactus....rhipsalis, which I see you have many. Please add this to your lists as I can't find much on UA-cam about it and yours are stunning! T.Y.
This is the video we all needed but no one wanted to make LOL Thank you, I found it so helpful! You shared the info in a way that was easy to understand. You are my favorite on UA-cam ❤
Love… love… love this video… Info is great thanks!! Just what I was looking for as I’m a big fan of naming plants correctly and although I know what I’m doing when naming Phalaenopsis I was a bit confused with all the descriptors and un-registered cultivars for the Hoya… it’s been driving me crazy and now I have peace… 😊 Thank you!!
Oh this is everything. Definitely content I knew I needed. I’m so confused when writing names, mainly in videos so this was SUPER helpful. Also…you totally have botanist vibes. I was flabbergasted when you said you weren’t one 👀
I loved this video, not only because you always make it so very entertaining, but also because you provide such excellent information which is often confusing. Descriptors was new to me, so thank you for that!
I always try to avoid writing Hoya names on my insta by just using a hashtag instead of actually typing the full thing. Like #hoyacarnosakrimsonqueen instead of Hoya carnosa 'Krimson Queen'🤣 Loved this video!😁
LOVE your videos!!! A video nobody asked for with content nobody new they needed. Nailed it!! Through the whole video I was going "Oh that's why" (double quotes not single 😂) And you answered questions that I kind of understood what it meant but didn't have the full explanation- I'm talking about you sp. aff.
It’s great that you’ve covered this topic 👏 I am a bit obsessive about using the proper words and terminology in general, so of course, I want to describe my Hoyas correctly (in my spreadsheet 😆). The info I found so far is from discussion posts, where there are always arguments, or the odd site. Something else I don’t know is if it’s correct to say Hoyas or should it always be Hoya even if referring to multiple plants, do you know? PS: I also change words if I’m not sure of the spelling 😂
This was really helpful video! There's so many options how to write your hoya names and it feels like everyone are using a different one. So I have been wondering A LOT what's the right way 🤣
Very useful, thank you, Miro! I often see an abbreviation cv. being used for cultivars. Now i am going to avoid it and change tags on my 'Krimson Queen' and 'Rebecca'. I agree there is a lot of mess, and on the top of that names are often misspellt. I say nothing about species identification among non-professionals and selling cuttings under the name they THINK the plant has.
Very useful. Thankyou. CAn you do a video on the list (partial list, not a complete list ofcourse :) ) of Hoyas that are terrestrial and that are epiphytic...I mean about the ones you have or the common ones like that...or group them on care basis...like which all prefer slight compact medium and which all need airy medium...somethimg like that...
Love this video! You were right we didn't know we needed this! You should definitely start adding the proper spelling to your videos that feature specific Hoyas to help us all out. Also thank you because I finally signed up for skillshare using your trial link. Can't wait for the next video!
This was actually very helpful!! I am very particular about things like this so I appreciate this video! However, it’s just going to make me crazy now every time I see it done wrong 😑
OMG so great video and yes I learnt so much… thank you Miro really never thought I need this video but hell yes 👍 I will write my names now correctly 😂😂 I hope… and yes looking for different words if I don’t know how to spell others 😂😂
I am somewhat convinced that the callistophylla long leaf vs short leaf descriptor is a scam to inflate prices. I did a little bit of research (not much if I'll be honest), and I asked in some hoya groups and literally no one could answer if there was any difference between the two. I bought mine as the "short leaf" version (because it was cheaper and looked identical to the long leaf ones being sold by the same seller), and some of the leaves on it really dramatically vary in size. Some are almost 7 inches long, and others are barely 3 inches long.

It drives me nuts and I never say anything because I don't want to be *that guy*. Thanks for being that guy. 😂
I am that b**ch 😂
People need both of you guys talking about science! #thelightsideoftheearth
I love you, Betsy.... : )
Whoa, hold your Hoya! Only you could make it fun to learn about nomenclature.Thank you!
I am glad you had fun watching the video :D
I loved this video, I felt like I was taking a legit botany class!
I hope it was a fun class then :D
As a person who works in public relations, I very much enjoyed this video!
Thank you for these clarification, very useful. Acquiring Hoya knowledge makes me feel better 🤣 my nephew helpfully took all the name tags off all 63 hoyas in my collection. Now I’m playing name that Hoya. New tags incoming, eventually, maybe 😂
Oh no 😂 I never had any tags but I should really put some!
I could watch you everyday
😂
I loved this! I'm very interested in hoya and would love more content like this
Going to edit some names on instagram posts right now 😅

I think a book like that would be fantastic!
You are so funny, and so informative! The Hoya community is lucky to have you to keep things light! 🙌
That is such a sweet thing to say. 💚

No, I am an architect actually :D Or well, at least that's what I have my degree in :D
@@BasiePlants hahaha i was being a tad sarcastic. It’s definitely the ponytail tho 😅 but architect is equally as cool!
If you told me you were a botanist, I wouldn't question it for a second.
I loved this video, not only because you always make it so very entertaining, but also because you provide such excellent information which is often confusing. Descriptors was new to me, so thank you for that!
OMG! Now I have to re-write all of my tags 🤯 😂 Thanks for another great video! Always entertaining! 💚
Absolutely love the scientific and historical point of view of those videos! Thank you!
I always try to avoid writing Hoya names on my insta by just using a hashtag instead of actually typing the full thing. Like #hoyacarnosakrimsonqueen instead of Hoya carnosa 'Krimson Queen'🤣
Loved this video!😁
Thank you! Now I can finally write names without you quietly (or not so quietly) judging me! :D
I never judge. I don't even know how to.
Grammar - YES, Educational - YES, Correctness - YES
This was a good video.
Great video -it's was time someone to make it and I'm glad you did it because you are always very precise, clear and accurate 👍🏻❤

Hahaha :D Well, I am glad it's not content you knew you don't need! 😂 Yes, the abbreviations can be sometimes confusing! cf. was that for me :D
I always learn so much during your videos! Gonna feel like an expert looking up plants for sell now

Saving your video to refer too again xx
Ulu ~ Hulu (Pedalaman) inner, opposite of Hilir ~ outer. Usually follow river, top part Hulu, lower part Hilir.
This was really helpful video! There's so many options how to write your hoya names and it feels like everyone are using a different one. So I have been wondering A LOT what's the right way 🤣
There was way more to this topic than I expected. This does fall into the category of info I didn’t know I needed. Love learning a little botany.😊

oh wow i thought for the longest time that sumatra in caudata sumatra was like a cultivar. thanks for an informative video as always!
Now you know it's just another caudata clone :D Still special!
Hallo Miro! Tks for your video! Funny and useful as ever. I think your content is the only one that is really smart. Thank you a lot.

That's a good idea! Thank you for the suggestion!
@@BasiePlants I agree I would love a video about that subject
@@BasiePlants :)
Thank you, I totally geek out on these educational videos!
Me too :D
Fabulous information I can put to use right away!
I am glad you think so!
Love your informative videos and very entertaining as always ❤

I am happy you enjoyed the video! That is great to hear! I try to write them each time, but mistakes can happen :) thank you 💚
Thanks for this! I definitely learned a lot 💚🪴🌱🌿
I am glad to hear that :D
the schitts creek reference SENT me

Oh my god I love you for making this, THANK YOU
From a biology teacher - A+🌿
Excellent. You make learning fun.
I am glad you liked the video Bonnie 💚 But you already know all of this :D
This was actually very helpful!! I am very particular about things like this so I appreciate this video! However, it’s just going to make me crazy now every time I see it done wrong 😑
Thank you so much. 🌱❤️🌱
You're welcome!
Thanks for this information I didnt know I needed.
Thank you!
How about freckled , speckles & splash ??
All of those are descriptors :)
I guess I have my fall plans now.....lol 💚
OMG so great video and yes I learnt so much… thank you Miro really never thought I need this video but hell yes 👍 I will write my names now correctly 😂😂 I hope… and yes looking for different words if I don’t know how to spell others 😂😂
Good! :D I wish plant stores would write names properly too! So for example, I would know immeditaly Philodendron 'Burle Marx' is not a species :D
Thanks for this. It finally makes sense. My only complaint is that I wish it had been a month ago before I made new tags for my 100+ Hoyas ;)
Hahaha 😂 I need to make tags too! I still don't have them 🥲
By the way, i like this growlight -pink color of headings 😍

Best one for me with avoidance: "If you don't know how to parallel park , don't".
Can you just make and share a ‘complete’ list of correct Hoya names and share with us? 🤣🤣🤣
Mensch, you need to address the problems, not avoid them xD
Also extremely useful video, tyvm.
Keep calm and hold your hoyas lmao
Leaning with Hoya
I absolutely change words when I can’t spell them 😅😅😂😂😂😂
I'm enjoyed. :)
Yassss! This was so needed in our community. I admire your knowledge and your humor. And yes, you are THAT B**ch! ::snap, snap::
If I do not know how to spell stuff, I Google them and it corrects the spelling for me :)
Sometimes there is no time 😂
This is exactly what I have been nagging and preaching about for several years!
I know! I learned from the best, Hoya Queen 💚
👌👌👌
I’m still curious how Hoyas are named so down the rabbit hole I go 🐇… perhaps I’ll see some hippo videos 😉
Crap. I’ve been writing the name incorrectly all this time 🤣🤣🤣
It happens 😂
I used capital letters for the name of the species on ALL of my plant tags 😂😂😂
Very informative.. BUT I need a deep BREATH.. It was a big mouthful 😂
🤣❤️😭
Changing kroniana 'Eskimo' to 'Silver' is one that annoys me.
I just call mine Hoya lacunosa (silver). As far as I know, it is not even registered.
