    Nice video - but you are wrong. L. fuliginosus doesn't kill host queen. Since chthonolasius are monogynous, L. fuliginosus queen just convinces them with pheromones she's the rightful ruler and workers kill their own mother. In other words - she isn't a killer ant. :)

    • @nordicants6232
      @nordicants6232  6 років тому +7

      That is debatable! Not a fact ;-) i think the opposite. Nature may be specialized but your option i think is too complex, but who kmows

    • @insectsNL
      @insectsNL 6 років тому +2

      This is also wrong: Lasius fuliginosus enters a colony that hasn't a queen for a while . That is what I've read on the internet.

    • @notdark2526
      @notdark2526 6 років тому +2

      insectsNL you are also wrong, you can't just believe what's on the internet. Research first

    • @insectsNL
      @insectsNL 6 років тому

      Sam Woo I know not everything on the internet is true, but I,ve read this now for a few times, so there is a great chance this is true. It's very difficult to experuence this by yourself, so this is an assumption....

    you put too many eggs in there for one queen to handle, brood boosting should only be done when you have at least 5-10 workers even then only do up to 60 eggs should have gave her 10 cocoons and made sure they were workers and then gave her more i've done this with Myrmecia and i have a colony of hundreds not sure but maybe 250-350

    • @nordicants6232
      @nordicants6232  6 років тому +6

      For larvae yes, but cocoons only requires to be opened, where one ant can easily manage up to 20 or more cocoons each!

      @your_average_blanket_lover3732 5 років тому +2

      I have 1 camponotus ligniperdus then with about 70-100workers 1 myrmica sp 500 workers then I have fromica sp. with about 20 workers and another 40 Lasius flavus Queens, then I have about 10 Lasius niger

    you should of made a callow farm and then you would have no deaths basically you keep the pupae and the workers in one test tube and whenever a new callow (freshly emerged worker) hatches introduce her to the queen and after 3-5 workers introduce around 10 pupae to the queen

    I recently found two different ant species living peacefully right next to each other, I don't know what their actual English names (I live in Finland) are but let's just say hive ants and sugar ants, the hive ants are the ones that build those huuuuuuge mounds as nests and the sugar ants are small black ants that, for what I've seen, build their nests underground. The sugar ants have their nest right next to the road and half a meter away the hive ants have their nest building up against a birch tree. I think some humans should learn from ants because they can't live with other people while ants can deal with a whole 'nother species living with them.

    Maybe this is pointless, but if the queen kills/provokes the death of another colonie's queen, she actually has a cool name: hyperparasitic.
    Weird entomology fact. Wasps are notorious for having hyperparasitic species that are sorta the enemy of my enemy for a lot of insects.

    Nice job with the L. Fuligenosus queen. But I think it was a little to complicated ? I started 2 of them and both just with about 100 workers and brood (50 pupea) for the first one and around 30 for the sec and some pupea. I simplely by put the queen in a Testtube and the worker in a another testtube than I conected both with a drinking straw and waited. Both of them got accepted. Now the workers just have to get along with the new workers and everything gonna be okey. But nice video anyways. But I would like if u stop being like AC and just more about ant and stuff :) .

      Elia Polster nice that your care about my content! Very appreciated! Hmm yes that is a very easy introduction that may be working great! But in antkeeping you never know... antqueens have personalities ;) hmm the point about AC ressemblance intrigues me as i try not to copy... haha please give me examples and i would be very thankful! As always have a fANTastic day :)
