Nice video - but you are wrong. L. fuliginosus doesn't kill host queen. Since chthonolasius are monogynous, L. fuliginosus queen just convinces them with pheromones she's the rightful ruler and workers kill their own mother. In other words - she isn't a killer ant. :)
Sam Woo I know not everything on the internet is true, but I,ve read this now for a few times, so there is a great chance this is true. It's very difficult to experuence this by yourself, so this is an assumption....
you put too many eggs in there for one queen to handle, brood boosting should only be done when you have at least 5-10 workers even then only do up to 60 eggs should have gave her 10 cocoons and made sure they were workers and then gave her more i've done this with Myrmecia and i have a colony of hundreds not sure but maybe 250-350
I have 1 camponotus ligniperdus then with about 70-100workers 1 myrmica sp 500 workers then I have fromica sp. with about 20 workers and another 40 Lasius flavus Queens, then I have about 10 Lasius niger
IMPORTANT EDIT: Semi claustral queens DO need food. Dont know why i said the contrary.... While you have read this i might mention that om not proud of my sumo joke... sooo bad D: haha
You should keep some sort of Polyrhachis and if possible, Polyrhachis cyaniventris. They are such an amazing species!! Another species to consider is the Asian Weaver ant!
Nordic Ants thank you. i am documenting my journey into antkeeping on youtube if u have a chance maybe u might have a idea on possible spp. of my queens
awesome video i have a parasitic colony myselfe its hard to raise these ants i never saw any eggs yet! i have a Lasius Umbratus colony. You have some information about these species of ants? i would love for you to make a video about these ants :) Greets Ant's Mieren Avonturen
you should of made a callow farm and then you would have no deaths basically you keep the pupae and the workers in one test tube and whenever a new callow (freshly emerged worker) hatches introduce her to the queen and after 3-5 workers introduce around 10 pupae to the queen
I recently found two different ant species living peacefully right next to each other, I don't know what their actual English names (I live in Finland) are but let's just say hive ants and sugar ants, the hive ants are the ones that build those huuuuuuge mounds as nests and the sugar ants are small black ants that, for what I've seen, build their nests underground. The sugar ants have their nest right next to the road and half a meter away the hive ants have their nest building up against a birch tree. I think some humans should learn from ants because they can't live with other people while ants can deal with a whole 'nother species living with them.
+Trash King the Mighty Ruler of Garbage Town amazing observation, thought and conclusion! But we may not learn from the slavemaking ants dough.. Have a fANTastic day
Nordic Ants that's true 😂 another thing I think we should learn from them is that they don't have capitalism! Capitalism is like a lowkey slavery system after all...
chris imbee yes of course when you think about it! But it was a first for my getting princes.. Well Well thank you anyways :D keep giving feedback, it really helps
I personally love meat ants and trap jaw ants..I currently bought a trapjaw queen with 5 workers and I'm searching for meat ant queen to purchase, please help me if you find one. Thanks
Umm You see I've been raising my own queen ant called the domymerex Bi-colour (if I said that right-) so uhh are they easy to raise? / I need an urgent answer anyone can reply if I ain't pressuring yall /
Maybe this is pointless, but if the queen kills/provokes the death of another colonie's queen, she actually has a cool name: hyperparasitic. Weird entomology fact. Wasps are notorious for having hyperparasitic species that are sorta the enemy of my enemy for a lot of insects.
Make a post on vivariumbuilders.com for any questions regarding vivariums n stuff! Will answer thouroughly :D for other things email at nordic.ant@gmail.com
Nice job with the L. Fuligenosus queen. But I think it was a little to complicated ? I started 2 of them and both just with about 100 workers and brood (50 pupea) for the first one and around 30 for the sec and some pupea. I simplely by put the queen in a Testtube and the worker in a another testtube than I conected both with a drinking straw and waited. Both of them got accepted. Now the workers just have to get along with the new workers and everything gonna be okey. But nice video anyways. But I would like if u stop being like AC and just more about ant and stuff :) .
Elia Polster nice that your care about my content! Very appreciated! Hmm yes that is a very easy introduction that may be working great! But in antkeeping you never know... antqueens have personalities ;) hmm the point about AC ressemblance intrigues me as i try not to copy... haha please give me examples and i would be very thankful! As always have a fANTastic day :)
Great video! Haven't heard a whole lot of success stories when it comes to the raising of parasitic species. You make it look easy! :D
Ants Australia you make antkeeping look easy for people with iq 10 ;) hahah Thank you anyways, very appreciated! Have a fANTastic day

So many ant youtubers here

It’s a shame to see this guy is still quite under-rated 2 years later, he makes great content.
Ants Sydney’s know right

Killer queen
I love your videos and I will support them till the end

Nice video - but you are wrong. L. fuliginosus doesn't kill host queen. Since chthonolasius are monogynous, L. fuliginosus queen just convinces them with pheromones she's the rightful ruler and workers kill their own mother. In other words - she isn't a killer ant. :)
That is debatable! Not a fact ;-) i think the opposite. Nature may be specialized but your option i think is too complex, but who kmows
This is also wrong: Lasius fuliginosus enters a colony that hasn't a queen for a while . That is what I've read on the internet.
insectsNL you are also wrong, you can't just believe what's on the internet. Research first
Sam Woo I know not everything on the internet is true, but I,ve read this now for a few times, so there is a great chance this is true. It's very difficult to experuence this by yourself, so this is an assumption....
Then why would she have large mandibles?
what a video man you blew my mind!
Ants International Thank you maaan! Waiting for your colonyupdate stream:D have a fANTastic day
you put too many eggs in there for one queen to handle, brood boosting should only be done when you have at least 5-10 workers even then only do up to 60 eggs should have gave her 10 cocoons and made sure they were workers and then gave her more i've done this with Myrmecia and i have a colony of hundreds not sure but maybe 250-350
For larvae yes, but cocoons only requires to be opened, where one ant can easily manage up to 20 or more cocoons each!
Wait myrmecia as in bull ants or did you mean myrmica,European red ant?
Pretty big colony for myrmecia
I have 1 camponotus ligniperdus then with about 70-100workers 1 myrmica sp 500 workers then I have fromica sp. with about 20 workers and another 40 Lasius flavus Queens, then I have about 10 Lasius niger
Great vid. Never stop making vids!
FriendlyAnts ahhaaha i wish :D thank you!
IMPORTANT EDIT:
Semi claustral queens DO need food. Dont know why i said the contrary....

Oil Opossum No mercy! I hope i wont dissapoint you ;)
You should keep some sort of Polyrhachis and if possible, Polyrhachis cyaniventris. They are such an amazing species!! Another species to consider is the Asian Weaver ant!

Great i cant wait to see that video! :) Resect!
Dude i would loooooovvvvvvveeeeeeeee too have a lasius fuliginosus, i think they're soooooo cool
Queen ant already touched the doorknob.
you should of made a callow farm and then you would have no deaths basically you keep the pupae and the workers in one test tube and whenever a new callow (freshly emerged worker) hatches introduce her to the queen and after 3-5 workers introduce around 10 pupae to the queen
Im going to try to raise a parasitic ant queen myself!
Great! Its a challenge :D
Nordic Ants i wasn’t expecting a reply from you, also parasitic ants seem cool!
Bro enclosed his own ant? That's gotta be an experience
Most of the darkened cocoons were showing movement inside of them, so they might have just been males?
Hi :) I was wondering how you knew that the pupae was ready to eclose?
It had darkened :D
How did the colony get on in the end?
She's a Killer Queen
Gunpowder Gelatin
Dynamite and the laser beam
Garrenteed to blow your mind
They turn wood into cartoons!
Hahahhaha! xD got it!
I guess I just catched a Lasius fuliginosus...now I don't know what to do with it in my tube I only had Lasius neglectus and flavus before :(
Please consider keeping diacamma or polyrhachis species
Empire Of Ants nice suggestions!!! Remember to vote in the next video :)

I can't find brood for my formica obscuripes! :(
Do you know if the Lasius fuliginosus can bite through Ytong, plastic glass or Concrete?? (BDW awsome video!!)
I always wanted one of those queens
0:36 what species of ant is that?
Lasius fuliginosus

AntsUSA amazing man! Keep us updated and contribute to the antkeepingcommunity!
Will do. Sorry for the lack of uploads
I caught 2 parasitic lasius queens, but I have no other Lasius =(
Sol Noury go get some cocoons from a wild colony! :) do you mind telling me what species?
Okay!
its Claviger, I believe
Sol Noury Nice! Try do same as i do in the video :D
ok!
go for Harpegnathos Venator & Polyergus Samurai
yalper hmm is Polyergus native to Thailand?
they might be. they r native to russia, china, korea & japan.
china is just some km north of thailand and korea & japan r even more in the east.
you should have sorted out the coccons first as it was obvious that there were also male cocoons. Once you have put aside the male cooons its easier.
chris imbee yes! An unforgettable mistake :/ it was hard to distinguish them when i got the cocoons dough..
i could see them from at first glimps on your video..the difference in size is noticeable..never mind..hope shes doing well
chris imbee yes of course when you think about it! But it was a first for my getting princes.. Well Well thank you anyways :D keep giving feedback, it really helps
Why do you remove the male alates? It's not like they will harm the colony.
SomeoneVeryClever they consume(eat) without providing anything. It betters the chance of survival of the colony :/ But i get What your thinking!
Aperently this queen lives in my backyard do you know when the flight time is? Would love to find one of those greetings
At 10:24 the cacoon to the right of the queen is moving
+zenri Lane yes! Good eye
Where's the update at, did she ever start a colony
COOL QUEEN
Wow, they can turn the wood into cartoon!
Yes! Amazing right?
Bruh, how ignorant are you? You said that wood can turn into a cartoon which (by definition) makes no sense.
How ignorant are you ? lol He said _carton._ Why how's your Swedish? (I hope for ur sake, u'r 12).
I personally love meat ants and trap jaw ants..I currently bought a trapjaw queen with 5 workers and I'm searching for meat ant queen to purchase, please help me if you find one. Thanks
i love ant keeping because they're much more low mainteince then a dog or cat but just as fun
Absolutely! I couldn't agree more
do you need some sort of permit or license to keep exotic ants? I always thought they would get stopped by customs.
Not to keep them but to ship them across state lines and borders is illegal almost every where beause of invasive species and all.
camponotus gigas or carebara castanea (there beautiful species).
Random Ant ok very nice! Thank you
Did you make the move yet>?
Umm You see I've been raising my own queen ant called the domymerex Bi-colour (if I said that right-) so uhh are they easy to raise? / I need an urgent answer anyone can reply if I ain't pressuring yall /
So was the queen you catched Lasius fuliginosus?

Maybe this is pointless, but if the queen kills/provokes the death of another colonie's queen, she actually has a cool name: hyperparasitic.
