the thing that i find interesting is how the queen wanders around like a pregnant mother that wants to do something instead of sitting around and letting all the workers do the work.
Xavier Pedrana yes, I like that the ants will still help no matter what condition they’re in, it’s a shame we humans use pathetic excuses just to avoid going to work on a Monday yet a queen ant (who’s usual role is to just lay eggs) refuses to sit it out and instead helps the family still! This is why ants are better than us socially speaking when it comes to being part of a community.

Canada has enough big game with sharp teeth that will eat ya, from polar bears ( which are up to 5 times bigger than a grizzly bear, ) cougars, Lynx, bobcats, mountain lions, bears, both black and brown, grizzlies, wolves of various sizes, and numerous other canines with sharp teeth...then we have the dangerous grass eaters like Roosevelt elk, have 6 foot long legs with sharp hooves that can gut you from chin to sternum in one swipe for disrupting their grazing...we don't need any killer ants thanks, lol

AntsCanada and yourself NEED to do a live podcast together and discuss species that either of you have and haven't had before. I'm pretty sure he has never experienced Spider Ants before and other Australian species.
I also love that Spider Ants seem to utilise their larvae as a form of resource supply in a similar way to the Dracula Ants do by filling there young up with food before they are fully grown.
If you are not familiar with Dracula Ants I definitely recommend! They feed there own larvae food they find then feed themselves by biting into the larvae while still keeping them alive. As it's thought the species' can't exchange Trophallaxis normally like most ants.

The most interesting thing about spider ants is that they are now the 4th species of ants that have very noticeable repleates. And another thing that I find very interesting it how they reproduce with wingless queens which will be very hard to find when you want to look for her within a big colony.

This is one of the coolest ant species I've seen in a while. I know of golden honeypot ants that have abdomens like these, but they're gold. I think these look like the futuristic robots of the ant world, sleek and spider-like. I like how they walk, so strange! Matrix ants!

What I find amazing about the spider ants is the fact that their queen never has wings! I find that really odd and just thought that every queen ant has wings at some point in their lifetime. I really love your channel because you teach me new things about ants every time you upload a video and you are a very genuine guy.
I think the fact that the Queen is so much like the workers, moving around and feeding /grooming. Considering how most other ants keep their queen away from everything nice and safe. The way the repletes are filled straight away to create the cast is also amazing. Love your videos and almost ready to take the dive into keeping. Thanks :)

To me, the most interesting thing about spider ants is how very little research has been done and how spider ant queens look and act so similarly to her workers. Also, it’s surprising on how the workers fill up their unborn siblings with liquids to turn them into a hoarder, or a reverse. After this video, the fascinating spider ants have become more of a mystery to me than ever.
I love the simple eyes on the spider ant queens! It occurs in a decent amount of queens and I didn't know what those dots were until this vid!!
Your videos are incredible every time. I absolutely love them. One problem. You don't make enough of them. It has been 4 months and you haven't uploaded since. I hate to be one of those people who concerns over everything, but it went from monthly uploads, to every other monthly upload, to a video every 4 months at this point. With a relatively small amount of subscribers, I don't think you can rely on a patreon goal for motivation to make videos. You already have the needed equipment. Your own ant nests, ad revenue, and other things that keep a channel going. If you keep a consistent upload schedule, your channel will grow beyond belief. That would make a patreon goal much more achievable. but until then, I don't think that patreon donations should root the upload schedule for this channel, or to get exclusive content if desired. It should be open to everybody, and I speak for all fans here. Thanks for your attention. Keep making videos!

Watching this video, a really fascinating thing occurred to me; when these ants are hanging upside down in large groups within their nest, it closely resembles how Daddy Longlegs (Harvestmen “spiders”) will cluster. Harvestmen may do this for added protection or to conserve moisture in dry conditions, but the MOST fascinating thing is that Harvestmen aren’t actually spiders either! They are arachnids but they’re more closely related to scorpions. This means that 2 completely different species (Harvestmen & Spider Ants) have independently developed very similar spider-like builds but typically non-spider-like behaviors for likely the same reasons. Amazing! And don’t get me started on Ant Spiders… Lol.
I don’t currently keep any ants yet but I’ve always loved these little guys. Last week I actually had a dream of catching a Camponotus queen with my 3 y/o son, so guess what I’ll be doing as soon as Spring comes around!

_Leptomyrmex_ are interesting as a whole. On Ant Keeping Depot, from Gamergate it states that queens of this species have never been found. To distinguish queens through the ocelli is interesting as this method of identification is used among several other species too. Ergatoid queens are fairly uncommon as well, with this characteristic only being found in a few species, with some _Myrmecia_ queens also being wingless. Repletes are also amazing, like _Myrmecocystus_ except with less distended gasters and it’s fascinating that this species holds characteristics of many species of ants, with tandem running also being an occurrence within this species. I’d say the most interesting of all though, is the arrangement of young larvae in flower-like bundles. This trait is something I’ve yet to have seen in a species and what the purpose could be intrigues me.

gamregate, a worker ant that becomes a queen, basically in certain species all workers have this ability but they're usually are made infertile after birth by fellow ants when there is a queen, so workers wouldn't fight the queen.

@@benjaminbradley210 I don't think so. He once said that: When he was little, he loved nature. He loved nature so much to the point that his parents bought him an ant nest. At first, he didn't know anything about ants. He didn't even know Ant Queens existed and that they're the egg layers! So, all he did was pick up a few workers, did nothing to them, and they started dying and eventually died. He lost interest because he thought that ant keeping was complicated and kept the nest under his bed. 10 years later, after graduating college, he was going around some stuff, when he suddenly felt something. He pulled it out and it was his ant nest. He learnt about ants alot in biology lessons so he had some knowledge in ant keeping. He gave it another try and caught his first queen ant. He watched some AntsCanada videos and managed to create a successful colony. Then, he started making a channel, inspired by AntsCanda and to spread one message: Ants are FASCINATING.

Hi Jordan, Personally I would love your old camera as i don't own anything capable of shooting such small creatures with great detail. I was considering starting a small documentary style youtube channel, similar to yours and so would use your camera for that. I would also use it for instagram as I love posting updates of my colonies there. Regardless if I win or not it won't change how much I love your videos, I respect how detailed and professional they are. The most fasinating thing about spider ants to me was how little documented they are. They feel special because of this. Thanks so much for making a video about them. The second coolest thing would be their awesome repleates. I really like the color on their head, contrasting their black and grey.

The thing I have found most faccinating about spider ants is how much they can be fed and swell them self up so much, species with repletes are so interesting to me!
What i find most fascinating? It is a really hard choice because an active queen means that you end up playing 'Where's Wally' every time. But I would have to say that the unique nature of the repletes hanging upside down is an absolutely awesome sight to behold.
What I like about the Spiderants, is the behavior. It's pretty weird that they are hanging from the ceiling and that they are walking like a daddy long legs!
I have a small colony of carpenter ants with 20-30 members.

The way I thought of the “larva balls” are like family groups, so certain family groups are designated to be repletes or regular workers or alaites, I also might think the family groups might generally stick together with a domininant ant, and they all form together to be one big colony, I also wonder if the the family groups generally hold brood that are set aside to their own cast, this is all just speculation, and defiantly needs more study ! And an update please !!’
The thing I find interesting about the spider ants is how there is very little research or information on them. I really want to just watch and observe everything then document it all. Everything about these ants fascinate me. They are so unique looking and I love the way spiders look but love the structure and ability of ants and the spider ants are just the best of both worlds.

It’s pretty wild how the queen moves around and helps out around the nest instead of conserving their energy. Those larvae clumps are pretty interesting as well, I’ve only seen that kind of thing with egg clumps. Very interesting species!
What I find most fascinating about spider ants is the way they look, the way they move and their legs are just so cool and I love the way they walk. I also think that it is really cool how they hang upside down in the nest

What i love about the spider ants is how thay dont look nor act like normal ants like lasius or others. I live how spider anta act like bats and how thay hold there larvae and tend to them like cleaning them and feeding them. The queen cool as well I like the way she's more energetic than other normal Queens she moves around intends to her brood more often than like say camponotus they like sit in one spot and lay eggs but unlike the Spider Queen she walks around and tends to her brood and larvae workers. It's really cool how you actually got a colony of spider ants Jordan I love these ants I actually wanted to look these up but I didn't find nothing on them so you've actually having a colony of them makes me more excited for every time you upload a video stay cool Jordan. I would use the camrea when my anta get out of hibernation i would shot them eating and in there nest and see about there behaver with the camera and show my friends my ants and there colors and behavers and what food that like

The most interesting thing about the spider 🐜 ants is that the repleats are filled up strait away while the exo skeleton is soft so there like balloons . PS I would love a ytong nest to start my first colony. How would you send the nest or camera if I were to be so lucky ???? I have to agree that my favourite colony is the bull ants 😁

I must say i love the way the Spider Ants Repletes hang from the roof off the nest in hope to get water that may drip down reducing their need to leave the nest and put themselves at risk.
The thing that I live about spider ants is that they are very big, so you can see them and all their parts very clearly and also the repletes are cool to see how big they can get. I’m all, I just love watching these ants work and go about their daily routine!

While in australia you guys have Myrmecia nagrocinta,we have Psudomyrmex graccilis.Coloring and size is the exact same.I also have some harvester ants,and my surgar/carpenter ants have some of the best coloration I've seen in any Hymenopytera.One,Camponotus Castanus,is A Georgous Red-Orange.The other,Camponotus Decipens,Or The Most Amazing Ant I've Ever Seen.They're Gaster,Black,With Grey Stripes.They're Thorax Is A Magnificent Orange.And They're Head Is A Georgous Red,All of these I really want macros to share to the world with!
Some time ago I got Ants Canada in my recommendations. Now I found Ants Australia. I’ve always been fascinated by insects and such. Your channel is super. UA-cam doesn’t always has to be only entertainment. It’s nice to look at a video that is nicely made by someone with a passion for what he is creating and that is both entertaining and makes me smarter. This is the feeling I get with this channel.

I find spider ants fascinating because of the fact they have repletes a lot like honeypot ants I also like their movement pattern also did you know that apparently Myrmecia nigrocincta enslave spider ants I find that pretty fascinating. I was lucky and observant enough to catch my own spider ant queen during a nuptial walk she layed some eggs but the queen and all of her brood died because she wasn't fertile. some day i will go back and see if i can get another one.

I find spider ants fascinating because they have a very amazing resemblance to spiders. I am very fond of spiders as well, this is a fantastic combination. Ants which are repletes have almost see through bellies like a water balloon.

What we call daddy long legs is different, they look like they have ball bodies and are not actually a spider
The thing we call daddy long legs(or harvestmen) are not insects or arachnids. They are a single segmented arthropod that scavenges off the forest floor.

The reason I would like to win your old camera is because I currently do not have a camera of my own, and I am only 13 so I don't really have the money to buy my own either, but if I could win this camera I could take pictures of all my current ant colonies and queens, so that way in the future can look back at this awesome time of my life and remember the coolest and happiest time of my life so far and I will never forget my awesome, incredible, amazing, ants.

I've been trying for like three years to get queens, and I only get Camponotus ants from vacations in my state, because the Argentine ants have overrun my whole city. Plus, the queens that I have found are all dead. I do, however, have access to a parent's high-quality camera, so I have what I need to film what a do not even have.
What I like about the spider ants also known as (Leptomyrmex erythrocephalus) is their unique colour. Unlike other ants who’s colours are just black or red. Spider ants have a mix of orange, black and a bit of white. Their abdomen is also very large compared to their body. I would really like to keep them but I sadly don’t live in Australia.

AntsAustralia has a very very similar voice, passion and quality to his video's as AntsCanadas I wouldnt say either is better, considering this channel is so much younger than A.C and is able to produce such quality and original content.
Pretty sure both will only be able to house country specific species so they both have reasons to be on here.
A.C has travelled to different countries to make his content as unique as possible but hopefully this channel makes enough so he can do the same and maybe go to countries A.C hasn't been to so he we can all enjoy even more unique content.
The more the merrier, there doesn't need to only be one then we wouldn't have gotten this particular video haha
@@scenenuf Well... Saying one channel is better than the other is subjective as opinions vary from person to person. Ants Canada seems more aimed at a younger audience compared to this channel. AC's content is more based on overdramatization and clickbait whereas AA's content is exactly what he says it is. So yeah, I enjoy AA's content a lot more. AC is neat though but I'm not a fan of clickbait and overdramatic stories to be quite honest.
For the nest-
I find the queen the most fascinating. It’s so interesting to see that they don’t have wings. This way of mating is so interesting and I’d love to see more research done on why this is. It would be awesome to find the biological mysteries hidden behind these weird quirks!
