I feel like my sleeper phrase got activated, my god I remember so many times opening the tool box or the screwdriver drawer in the big chest and going "Why this shit smell like ass cheeks"
Fun fact! It's also known as butyric acid is why people who didn't grow up eating Hershey's milk chocolate sometimes say it tastes like vomit when they try it. The way they process the milk involves pressure instead of heat so it's slightly fermented in a specific way that produces butyric acid, which is present in vomit
One of my cats threw up a hairball on top of my toolbox several years ago and I’ve been blaming them for the smell this whole time. It never made sense though because it was only on the outside. The more you know 🌠
I thought my stepfather or my brother literally puked in my toolbox and didn't tell me. Cleaned all the tools and box and it still smelled of vomit. Finally the mystery is solved. Thanks!
Those are some very big words, sir. May I remind you that a man in a big truck comes to my house and sells me things I don't need for monthly prices I can barely afford. I spent $14,000 on a box with some drawers to hold all those tools. What I'm trying to say is, please use first grade English. I buy snap-on stuff.
Oh man my father has a screwdriver drawer in his tools box and I absolutely hate when I need to go in there, it smells so disgusting. Even walking by the box you can get a whiff of it 🤢🤢
Being as they look unused as well as the drawer they live in I’d say not opening the drawers and using your tools is the bigger problem. Not one of my drawers goes unopened everyday.
Could you have meant cellulose acetate butyrate instead of sodium acetate butryate? I'm trying to do some research becsuse it sounds interesting, but all I can find is sodium acetate and sodium butyrate, which appear to be dietary supplements. However CAB is the only plastic I can find
Finally!! It's not just me! I had a plastic tool box brand new smell like that. Everybody thought I was crazy when I would say my tool box smells like puke lol So fucking stoked to have an answer now!!! Some new cardboard boxes have a similar smell. Please explain that lol
God butyric acid is nasty. We have it at work and you can smell it coming out of the container before it's even opened the first time. It's also interesting that those handles are made with the product of combining vinegar and baking soda.
NO FUCKING WAY!!! My coworkers got a screwdriver drawer that smells weird and I always thought it was like rat shit or something it was driving me nuts. Now I can tell him 😂
That explains so much. I always thought it was from years of sweat and oils being on the tools, so I cleaned off EVERY last one but it never went away
Damn, I always thought our tools smelt because my dad smoked in the garage
What was he smoking? Cheese sticks?
@@jodygarcia9892 boutta pack a day

39 years on this planet; bro it’s just secreting it’s own stomach juice. 🤮
"You mean to tell me, for forty years"
I feel like my sleeper phrase got activated, my god I remember so many times opening the tool box or the screwdriver drawer in the big chest and going "Why this shit smell like ass cheeks"
You have solved a more than a decade long mystery for me

Gross lol
Oh no that's nasty lmao
That explains why it sucks
Which explains why Europeans consider our chocolate trash.
Yeah when he said "butonic" I was like wtf 😂
Ive always wondered why my dad’s toolboxes had that smell lol. Thanks!
I like that smell. Reminds me of childhood. It doesn't make me think of vomit. But still cool to know you could get rid of it if you wanted.
I have a set of screwdrivers from the 80's that I don't use and can't get rid of because of nostalgia. Now I can use them again!!!!
I got my cousin's tools after he passed and both boxes smell like this. I've spent years wondering. Thank you!
Grandpa's toolbox, I still smell it...wish I would've been smarter in my younger days and kept it
One of my cats threw up a hairball on top of my toolbox several years ago and I’ve been blaming them for the smell this whole time. It never made sense though because it was only on the outside. The more you know 🌠
I always wondered why garage sales smelled like feet, especially by the tools and after touching them. 😂
Tackle boxes man same plastic but more common shit stinks
Hoooly dang never thought I'd have an answer to this one
I always thought something got spilled in my grandpa's tool chest but that might be it
I just thought they smelled like that because my grandfather's big sweaty hands were using them for 60 years
And sometimes if there is a little moisture, the handles turn kind of chalk like
I havent ever experienced that smell but damn if that isnt interesting. I only have one screwdriver with that handle type.
I thought my stepfather or my brother literally puked in my toolbox and didn't tell me. Cleaned all the tools and box and it still smelled of vomit.

Yeeeessss! I always wondered why my dad's toolbox smelled like that (clear red/blue Craftsman screwdrivers) and mine didn't! Thank you!
Its called butanoic acid, or more commonly butyric acid.
I have all those screwdrivers and then some and mine have never smelled…
I have a cased set of gun smithing screw drivers that smell like this. It's so bad I won't use them. Hopefully this works
Reminds me of working with my dad in the shop. Thank you for that.
Who knew?! What a great video man. I always thought it was how the old grease and grime started smelling after 30+ years .
man you saved me so much trouble- thank you
Could smell and taste it. Great tip
Taste?!
They get that kinda greasy feel and the smell right at the same time. I didn't know that's what caused it or how to fix it, now I do.
I had never thought about it i figured it was just old grease and stuff. I know the smell though.

That’s incorrect. The best way to keep the plastic from breaking down is to store them in a cool dry place.
omg i always assumed a mouse got in there an peed all over

I thought I just got drunk and puked on em
I’m not gonna clean mine cause I’m gonna pass the smell down to my kids like my dad did me
old film negatives do something similar
I’m pretty sure that’s what’s in Hershey’s chocolate
Itll come back since that chemical reaction is going to be throught the entirety of the handle
Wife walks in shed to see you smelling your screw drivers
Now i no why my dad wrapped the handles
My dads tools always smelt like on oil or greese we only cleaned the handles when we needed better grip lol
Your so right .
Yes
Somebody got an A in high school Chem
I think you're crazy...
Just playin cause i too know this smell lmao, wow! I thought i was crazy this whole time!

BRUH I THREW ALL MY TOOLS OUT THAT SMELLED LIKE THAT. SMH
The screwdriver drawer at the bike shop I work at reeks of rotten cheese. Not any of the others, just the screwdrivers
I always thought it was the dog😅
There could be literal vomit on my tools and I wouldn’t be able to smell it. They are so greasy lol no smell is permeating through that grease and oil
Clean ya damn tools every once in a while. They'll last longer
@@XxBLAKOPSBEASTxX Sounds like fake news. Keeping everything under a layer of oil and grease keeps them fresh.
Thank you brother!
That is the smell of the last set of quality american made tools.
Sure 😂
NO FUCKING WAY!!! My coworkers got a screwdriver drawer that smells weird and I always thought it was like rat shit or something it was driving me nuts. Now I can tell him 😂
That is not the reason.
I literally got that smell in my head as soon as they said it... to funny
Smells like vomit to you? Not like a really sweet and non volatile WD40'esk smell?
It smells good.
Love that smell! Why would I want to get rid of it?
🤮
It doesn't smell bad to me. I have a weak stomach if they stink id get rid of em. It doesn't smell bad to me
Aaaaahhhh I totally can!
Oh man... does this mean my acetate football cards are gonna smell like puke in a couple of years?!
It’s the butyrate that smells.
Havent foumd anything to get the smell out other than atf lol
Fishing tackle box
aVe taught me this about a decade ago, time to hit the old youtube😊
Jokes on you I have simply grown to like the smell

Oh yes that smelly smell that smells ..... smelly
I wonder if this is carcinogenic
Basically you are fussing because craftsman tools last forever. Just stop bro
Ah ha!
I'm old and my tool stinks.
