As someone from the northeast corridor of Boston proper, it was very similar to NYC insofar as Italian-American/mob culture, so I could (and did) watch/listen to guys like A Ruggiano for hours on end. Basically, the guy was just being himself, no BS, not a blowhard, just reacquainting himself to what/how he grew up, and his seamless dealings with otherwise murdering psychopaths like Tommy DeSimone. Maybe it's because of how I grew up, but I am a sucker for that stuff. Very entertaining, IMO.

The real-life incident behind the "am I clown scene" at the Bamboo Lounge they discuss at the beginning comes from an incident where Pesci had a similar interaction with Robert Bisaccia.

According to Henry Hill, Hollywood supposedly downplayed both the real life violence and language used by the actual Tommy DeSimone. You know that a person is one dangerous and foul-mouthed dude when Hollywood downplays the violence and language in portraying the actual person!
When referring to Henry Hill as "making himself more important than he really was" in Hill's book, Michael Francese (Who was a member of the Columbo family and who also knew Henry) said the exact same thing
@@janmiller6317 Henry actually didn’t embellish much. If you just read the book he isn’t some big hot shot. He is however extremely close with Paul Vario, which was actually a fact. Other than that though he was just an average associate. The movie is a different story. He’s a lot more respected in the movie than he actually was in real life lol, and Ray Liotta plays the role too well and makes him too likeable imo. Those were the main things. Prison also looked a bit more comfy in the movie vs how the book describes it
It still amazes me that the real deal is finally here. If you are a mob buff listen to everything Mr. Ruggiano says carefully. This gentleman goes back to Albert Anastasia through his father and it does not get any more of a real Mafia pedigree than that. You are getting a rare glimpse behind the curtain and I am sure we are only hearing the tip of the iceberg. There was no one tougher than Albert.

Paul Vario always told his crew to stay away from drugs when he got the money from the Lufthansa Heist he ordered $1 million dollars worth of cocaine..He had that junkyard for a Chop Shop and beside the junkyard was a little office where he could conduct business he didn't know his phone was bugged..I heard the DEA was going to arrest Paul and whoever else went to pick it up on a boat the FBI gave Paul a heads up if you show up you will be arrested your phone is bugged..They called it the Gold- bug.. they were still trying to prosecute him for that and the prosecutor's name was Goldman=Goldbug..look it up..I'm sure this guy knows more than me but by him telling 100% of the truth it's like ratting on your brothers..Plus when Henry Hill was in jail Paul was having a long time love affair with his wife doesn't sound like old school to me..
I had a grammar school classmate named Tommy De Simone . The word was that his dad was the local bookie. All I know is that Mr. De Simone drove around in a great looking classic 1958 Caddy convertible.
Thats the problem with Hollywood, I loved Goodfellows, my friends loved it. Scarface, Casino, the godfather, you name it. And we all wanted to be little gangsters, and we all got in trouble for it. And some guys died, some had bad prison sentences and all for dumb shit. I don't have many friends left from back then and were all broke. Today with the drill rap scene and all that stuff glorifying crime kids are probably even crazier. And when you hear now the real stories behind the mafia movies and what kind of people a lot of these guys really were in real life, they were mostly just drugged up psychopaths who betray their friends and family or even kill them if needed. Even the old time guys ratted each other out when they pinched them all in the 90's. Its great stories though. And its a bit less glamorized, the reality is a lot darker. But it is always tempting if you are young, everyone thinks they can beat the odds and get rich quickly. And you want to have some war stories yourself when you're old too...
Theresa Ferrara, was Tommy’s GF and she was found in NJ. She was in fact dismembered and left to go to an opportunity to make $10k. She left without her purse or house keys and only her car keys. I think she was only identified by her breast implants serial number. RIP Theresa.
Hey Anthony I'd like you to do an interview with Salvatore Polisi who is a writer for the movie Sinatra Club. He was one of the few people to testify against John Gotti and was a friend of Foxy and Tommy DeSimone.
I think this paints a much fuller picture of Desimone than other sources and stories do. The way Ruggiano describes him makes him seem a lot more real, not just a psychopath for the sake of being a psychopath that Henry Hill and others made him out to be. Overall, he doesn't seem to be too different from the average guy back then with a bit of charisma, going out and about town with his buddies and chasing women. That being said, I think the drugs really changed him at some point. From what I gathered, he was always insecure about his street image/reputation because his younger brother had informed for the cops. As a result, he wanted to prove himself as being a tough guy and cold blooded gangster and became violent towards anyone that even slightly suggested otherwise. Like Anthony says though, earlier on he was a fun guy to be around and he would happily go out with him, though eventually he was too scared to get in the same car. I think that was in large part due to the cocaine and paranoia it caused as well as the addiction, and it led him down a path that even he knew was wrong but wasn't sure how to get off of. I think Anthony was also right that when it was suggested he was about to get straightened out/made that he saw this as an opportunity to get immunity for the things he had done and start over in a sense, but at that point it was too late. The one thing I'm curious about tho is whether he was 6'2 or 6'4; I keep hearing conflicting reports about his height but they always say he is tall and that it's one of those two measurements.
A good little collection of images of tommy de simone on google now,you can see in some of the photos hes tall and kinda lanky not sure his exact size but got to be 6ft odd a good looking guy too.
@@bigprob8744 do you have a link to like an album or something? I can only find the black and white ones for the most part. Yeah he was definitely a bigger guy but I still don't believe the story about him killing a 6'9 biker with his bare hands in a bar lol.
Mr. Ruggiano can be so funny. When he talks about getting straightened out...One day he was locked up, another time he was out of state...lol...it was like every time his number came up to become a made man....there was something blocking it.

Wow, this was amazing!
What an awesome interview. One of the best. Your stories and life are amazing
Goodfellas better than Godfather
Tell me im wrong!!
I have always been saying the same thing. I fell in love with Goodfellas from the first time i saw it at 11 years old in 1990. I knew right then and there it was a Masterpiece. It got me into the Mob stuff
According to Henry Hill, Hollywood supposedly downplayed both the real life violence and language used by the actual Tommy DeSimone. You know that a person is one dangerous and foul-mouthed dude when Hollywood downplays the violence and language in portraying the actual person!
Yeah they waaaaay overplayed Henry Hill in the movie. lol
@Anthony Ruggiano Tommy’s girlfriend that got killed and chopped up, her name was Teresa Ferrara
Beautiful sunset background wallpaper you guys setup
love it
When referring to Henry Hill as "making himself more important than he really was" in Hill's book, Michael Francese (Who was a member of the Columbo family and who also knew Henry) said the exact same thing
what did henry embellish??
@@janmiller6317 Henry actually didn’t embellish much. If you just read the book he isn’t some big hot shot. He is however extremely close with Paul Vario, which was actually a fact. Other than that though he was just an average associate.
The movie is a different story. He’s a lot more respected in the movie than he actually was in real life lol, and Ray Liotta plays the role too well and makes him too likeable imo. Those were the main things. Prison also looked a bit more comfy in the movie vs how the book describes it
Another liar calling another liar a liar.
Absolute quality content !
Nobody tougher? Yea that's not true
Carlo gambino
@@dat3rdsideboy386 Carlo Gambino was wiser, shiftier, and smoother.
@@diarradunlap9337 I was being funny because he killed him allegedly but imo I think nobody is fucking Tommy karate he would have survived all generations
How come Tommy DeSimone had a mustache? I thought Wise guys aren't allowed to have mustaches.
Because he wasn’t a made man. The expectation was that if he became made then he would shave it off
Billy Batts was made and he had a 'stache...
Awesome video anthony, appreciate it as always, could you possibly do a video on Mickey Boy Paradiso?
I had a grammar school classmate named Tommy De Simone . The word was that his dad was the local bookie. All I know is that Mr. De Simone drove around in a great looking classic 1958 Caddy convertible.
the girl your thinking of anthony is a girl named theresa ferrara she disappeared after tommy did
great video and story thank you
Thanks for listening
@@AnthonyRuggianohow many brothers did Tommy have? And see they living? And who killed Tommy brother or brothers
I could listen to his stories for a long time and never be bored. Totally fascinating
Thank you
@@AnthonyRuggianohow many brothers did Tommy have and were they killed??
Great interview 🎉
Liked and SUBBED!
Easy to listen to this guy. Truly a master speaker.
this is like a spin off of the movie Goodfellas ! great stories Anthony
U need to change up the sound it's like sound in the 70s and earlier!!! Otherwise great job
Just the continuance of mustache beef is pure gold
Anthony is the best !
KickAss show ...one of the best MAFAIA ANYTHINGS IV EVER WATCHED ! PERIOD
In Goodfellas the phone rings when the phone is off hook when Morry is being choked with the phone cord. This cannot happen in those days nor today!
Ray Liotta gave Henry some class .
The movie made Henry Hill look 100 times better than he really was 😂😂
Funny asf Anthony Sr. kept reminding Paul Vario that he never liked Henry Hill. He never let Big Paulie live that one down.😄
Theresa Ferrara, was Tommy’s GF and she was found in NJ. She was in fact dismembered and left to go to an opportunity to make $10k. She left without her purse or house keys and only her car keys. I think she was only identified by her breast implants serial number. RIP Theresa.
dam she had it the worst
15:57 "And you said no?!" 😂
Hey Anthony I'd like you to do an interview with Salvatore Polisi who is a writer for the movie Sinatra Club. He was one of the few people to testify against John Gotti and was a friend of Foxy and Tommy DeSimone.
Sal is a tool bag piece of trash
To the letter. When he told the real life story. He made it sound so vivid. I felt like I was there.
Drinking game, anytime he says my father take a drink. Haha
Great episode.
I really enjoyed it thanks
Henry himself says he was taking way too muck coke and heroin. About the only truth he does speak.
Hi Anthony, i enjoy your content. Do you have any info on Tommy Agro? Where he actually grew up as a child? Not much info on him.
Even tho there is a lot of info and interviews with Henry Hill. Please Anthony do one on him with the same format. Please
So for an overall picture the movie was acurate, but the finer details were questionable(Henry Hills importance/standing) in those circles ?
I worked at Pan AM and hung out on Rockaway Blvd LOL.
Mr. Ruggiano can be so funny. When he talks about getting straightened out...One day he was locked up, another time he was out of state...lol...it was like every time his number came up to become a made man....there was something blocking it.
Great show! Where was Andy's bar Bodocks (Bododcks?) bar?
Pesci was a stand up comic before goodfellas
I always thought the reason why you didn’t grow a mustache was because “ whiskers are for rats “
