    The environment in which a given pleco comes from is everything. Also, most of them are found in colonies, but in tanks like the one in the video is only one of each. The reason why the rubberlips is feeding off of flat surfaces is, because where they come from pretty much all surfaces are smooth and consist of well rounded rocks. It will not eat off of rough surfaces, because it is not designed to do so. The morphology of the two mouths should have been the first giveaway, but it would require some level of analytical observation, which the vast majority of people lack. It is not an insult, it is the case (This video being proof). All of that has direct implications on how fish behave. No wonder the bristlenose is happier there. Unfortunately this mismatch is more common than not is the case of most aquariums out there.

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Actually I do observe the Rubber Lipped Pleco eating from other surfaces, but just not as frequently as the Bristlenose. And while having multiple can be good in some cases it's not essential. Mine are healthy and doing well. Thanks

    Great vid. Does your rubber nosed pleco eat the plants in your aquarium?

    Have you had any problems feeding Rubber Lip Plecos? Mine does not have any interest in any sort of food I give them, unlike my Bristlenoses.

      I feed mine North Fin Kelp Wafers and it eats them. Maybe give that a try!

      Most are wild caught and if their tank is set up wrong, they will starve even longer, before they intake anything. Anything with sharp edges in unsuitable for a rubbernose, or any other catfish form that matter.

    I’m never getting another one after this one dies ( how long do they live) he’s got to be 5 years now. I have a albino one. But I do have to feed him also.

      They can live quite a while if well cared for, but I'm not sure of their exact typical life expectancy.

    Is it just me or can I never get a pleco to go for an aglea tablet?
    They ether go over and don’t come back at it, err leave it alone entirely. Even if I feed at night the lights will come on and the tables just dissolved.

      I have two Rubber Lips and I've noticed that as well. The only time I ever see them "munching" on the "tablet" is after it's already dissolved for a few days. I do have snails and shrimps that will eat them right away though.

      @@hippoafrojagger1392id recommend getting a flat rock and putting it in your tank. Then putting the algae tablet directly on that rock. Even if it desolves some should stay there and the rubber lips will definitely love munching on the flat rock!

      I would recommend NorthFin Kelp Wafers. Mine will go and munch on those right away.

    Bristlenose plecos only eat Cyanobacteria which is the green algae. They don't eat all the 10 other types of algae like black beard algae, brown algae, red algae or diatom algae etc. One of the best algae eater is for example the "Chinese algae eater" fish. Definitely not the bristlenose. This video is misconseption. In fact bristlenoses are one the worst algae eaters because most L numbered catfish eat more algae than the bb

    Plecos are not cleaner fish if there eating algae there starving they NEED a balanced proper diet

    • @allthingsfishkeeping
      @allthingsfishkeeping  2 роки тому +2

      I think you're right and it is important to supplement their diet to make sure their needs are met. Some plecos, however, are more true algae-eater than others and can get much of their nutritional needs met that way. I also typically recommend driftwood as a supplement for them. Thanks for weighing in and sharing your insight.

    I got 75 gallon tank when i purchase aligator snapping turtle and comon snapping turtle i also purchase pleco they basically grown-up up together i mean buddies. Usually pleco loves to be on top of aligator snapping just chilling 😎 😅 just hung out .he Usually clean they shell. The crazy part when i feed them fish they eat it but no pleco 😅😅 i guess they think he is just another turtle. All 3 of them about same size !
