I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS CAR!!!!! I remember the magazine article where I was first introduced to the RS2! Brother, you've GOT to do a COUPLE of follow up videos on that thing!
Love the old 5 cylinders. I've owned a lot of them and every one of them I put massive miles on them before anything (aside from mods) needed to be done. Bulletproof. Pulled the head off one at 230,000 miles and cross hatching from the factory hone was still visible in all cylinders. And, if you've got the right tools, they are really very easy to work on. I can't imagine interior parts would be difficult to source, I had both a Coupe Quattro and an S2 Coupe which were rare birds here in the States but almost all interior bits cross over to others on the platform, and I found sourcing uncommon items from Europe fairly easy. Congrats, it's a fabulous car.
I bet Doug has some capital set aside to help the pandemic cash flow of sellers. What car would you collect? The 1995 Supra turbo that Scotty posted yesterday is cool. Over 1200 HP on the dyno so it's not stock.

Seriously he needs to start making some contacts with the local Audi tuning community. Especially 034 Motorsport.
I would try the Porsche dealer next. 😂

I still remember being overtaken by one in Leicester UK, back in 1992. I was gobsmacked and fell in love with it instantly, The contrast of the blue paint and red tail lights was indeed a thing of beauty back then!

For the Defender, yes he knows he will lose money on that. The Ford GT, RS2, old Defender, and even probably the convertible mercedes thing are investments that he will not lose money on save general maintenance.

True. However, he's after smart investment and likes to enjoy while enjoying a return. Plus he has a car auction website now and can capitalize on the exposure. I've been following him for years now and he always lends on his feet.

Inb4 value crash to $500 because of all the fans of this car dying of old age. Why else do you think those 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s muscle car revival shows exist, where they buy car bodies from forgotten scrap yards for $200 and turn them into muscle car customs? It's the same fate that awaits this car too, given enough time.
User stuff like this, unlike artwork or paintings, climbs on the value scale as long as there are enough living fans wealthy enough and enthusiastic enough to pay good money for it, before eventually they all die out or end up living on a pension and the car becomes worthless. Hell, even Audi dealerships didn't know what it is at the time, that's a big red flag. You think kids these days give a damn about it? Because they are supposed to be the potential future buyers.

It's not just an old station wagon. I was a tech at a Porsche Audi dealer in '92 and I remember when the RS2 Avant came out. We were so disappointed that the US wasn't going to get them. But that's the way it was for decades with VW, we never got any of the cool stuff.
So fun seeing kids all exited with their Christmas presents.
this kind of "light bar" was also a common design feature of 911s at the time, which is why they did it on that car!
How about Volvo's light blocks tail lights from the 70s and 80s. Sort of a joke sort of cool.
