  • I wanted to see this heartfelt moment in television history from a different perspective. So I flipped the scene horizontally to gain a more surreal perspective than the one most viewers initially experienced.

People talk about Scrubs or Chandler/Joey when talking about bromance but to me Shore and Crane will always be the epitome of a friendship. Ludicrous, fun, fighting, loving and desperately profound at times.

I'm old fashioned. Very few people are allowed to see my emotions. Ever. That's how I was raised. But this scene, between two men, saying the kinds of things they're saying to one another is GOLDEN! I suppose it's due to the two actors saying the lines. So well acted, and the lines so well delivered...and the body language. This scene is off the chain terrific!

Alan is overwhelmed and looks out the window to confess his love. When he looks back at Denny his voice gets rougher and rougher with emotion. Denny quickly has to look out the window. Beautiful.

I have to say that this is some really deep and meaningful dialog between these two great Men.
Both are so profoundly HONEST in what they say, and how they feel.
Alan has a REAL, REAL point when he responds to Denny, and so True. I mean society is sometimes so superficial, that things have lost their meaning.
This scene is honestly worthy of anything Shakespeare or anyone ever said. I mean it's supposed to be like a legal comedy/drama show, but so many times it had some really incredible writing and GRAVITAS.
    What great acting.
    Real friendship.
    I. LOVE. THIS. SHOW.

  • @MrMallard19

What kills me is the framing in this scene.
Spader and Shatner are positioned in opposite directions. You see them speak to each other, but it's not direct. They're facing each other, but not directly - just in the foreground and background.
This entire conversation happens while they're facing apart. And then at the end, Spader turns and tells Shatner - "You're my best friend, Denny. I couldn't imagine a life without you". That's the moment of reconciliation, and he meets Denny face to face. That's where the relationship is repaired.
And afterwards, Shatner turns towards the window where Spader is staring. He sets his conditions, but in that moment, they've reconnected and their relationship is back. He doesn't concede to Spader's actions - he's clear about his needs. But he shares Spader's sentiment. He accepts his apology. And they share the same view as friends - one united vision.
And the SCORE dude. The score fucks severely.

As somebody in committed bromantic relationship, this scene really hits it on the head. It's exactly like a full romantic relationship, but without sex. You get jealous when others get close, or provide support that you cannot. You need to be their "the one" for mental support and friendship. Of course, it's healthy to recognize when others are doing for your best friend what you cannot. This type of relationship often forms between those who have difficulty attaching to women romantically, whether because they're just bad at it or see them purely as sex objects

There are hours and hours of garbage shows one is able to watch with caned laughter, bad dialogue and just D rated actors. Although some parts of the story line in some episodes Boston Legal are "corny at times" it is scenes like this that bring a level of class and realness to a show that is totally (mostly) fictions. Watch the body language, listen to the flow of the words and the tones of the voices, makes this scene see so real. I do not get the slightest whiff of acting here and that is REAL ACTING.

The unique situation here is that In modern tv, you don’t have friendships between men being portrayed with the same passion, intimacy and veracity-yet- not romantic-- which is on par, If not directly parallel to those shared by female characters in scripted dramas… these two men are experiencing a loving intimate relationship that you see all the time like on Grays Anatomy or even in the past like with The Golden Girls. The commentary here is that there isn’t any-- it just two loving ppl who care about each other so deeply without having some sort of sexual or romantic element, while also breaking the norms of them having to be Gay or female to achieve such earnest intimacy. American entertainment, even today still pushes trending stereotypes or agendas and acts within the realms of conventionally gendered roles even with masculine male characters -- and even with that-- that it has to be in a comedic context in order for it to be permissible-- or assumed homoerotica in order to make sense. But that’s Hollywood for you, that’s popular social media and certain groups in PC culture that actually push a polarizing ideology that limits the intimacy of ppl to romance or to a particular sex/gender/sexual orientation… Hollywood still profits off of the idea that a straight man can’t be intimacy with a man or a woman, without a sexual element, or his sexuality must be more than heterosexual, to be believable, in fiction.
