The physical trauma of guarma also exacerbated Arthur’s TB. I believe if he’d not been injured with the O Driscolls or gone through guarma his symptoms would have developed more slowly.
I believe Guarma was necessary for the overall progression of the story. It definately is a detour from the rest of the game, and unexpectedly breaks up the gameplay pattern that the player has grown accustomed to by that point. During my second playthrough, I really accepted Guarma even more than my first playthrough. It's not a long section, and it has plenty of action to keep the player engaged, and there are some very important character building events during that segment. What I noticed during my second playthrough was just how fast the story moves once you get back to civilization. Guarma really is the last straw where Arthur becomes the man he really is deep down. Arthur's outlaw dreams, fantasies, and blind loyalty to Dutch are completely broken beyond repair, and he realizes what a waste of his life it all was. Guarma pretty much breaks Arthur's chains whereas Dutch doubles down on his outlaw ways and goes further and further into survival mode instead of taking accountability, and realizing how his actions led to such harsh consequences for himself and everyone around him. In Guarma, Dutch proves that he will never quit running from accountability no matter how many people get in his way, how many people die, or how many people he has to kill, or deceive to run from his crimes. Arthur accepts accountability, and chooses to finally go his own way. Such a traumatic event both mentally, and physically takes a toll on Arthur to the point where he is basically a dead man truly walking the path of redemption, and Dutch becomes the tyrant he really is, and finally gives up on the illusion of being a man of the people. It also depends on how the player plays the game, but I always go the heroic route in that game because it's the most rewarding path available.
My thing with Dutch is he was never truly for the gang. You could see it from the beginning when he was more concerned about robbing Cornwall than lying low.
On the concept of dutch. I believe if, it was modern day, he would be diagnosed with BPD. One of his possible symptoms is big goal focus. So he puts all his focus on his practically unreachable goals. This can lead into delusions and lower temper control. Guarma really shows how dutchs mental health deteriorated after the Saint Denis heist. His speech was more shifted and he could barely form full sentences. The fact that he said he 'understood spanish' when in reality he didn't and his brain went out if control and spiraled. Another sign of BPD I love chapter 5, which is a very controversial opinion, for the fact it has so much character development like dutch and micah. Truly sowing who they are and what a waste the gang was for the other guys and girls
Honestly Guarma was the only time I felt like an outlaw on the run in the entire game. Hard to envision yourself as scrapping for survival when you get thousands of dollars, gold guns, and fancy clothes. But being outnumbered, outgunned, destitute, and no food? Yeah that's probably what we should've had in the whole game.
many people didnt enjoy the guarma chapter but in my opinion it was awesome getting to play on a tropical Island but rockstar doesnt let u go there after chapter 5 and u have to glitch out of bounds to reach it tbh guarma was cool and had alot of potential for free roam gameplay but i would pick Mexico instead because it was Really disapointing rockstar didnt add it to rdr2 They had a special ambient soundtrack for Mexico and some unfinished buildings u can see it if u glitch to Where Mexico was gonna be (the out of bounds area across the san luis river) but Theres some Mexico map mods but sadly ai doesnt work out of bounds very well and no modders have expanded ai (because that would be hard and require alot of skill)
Some people might not agree with me but in my opinion chapter 5 in guarma is so unique in that you can’t return to the island and just the tropical setting is awesome
Yep, wish they made the mission linear though and you’d travel mission to mission constantly moving camp out areas. Would be like Max Payne but you have a chance to save your game after each mission, purely to let people who didn’t have all that much time at the moment come back later.
I’ve always felt that Guarma in part was Rockstar’s attempt at creating the “movie within the movie” that takes place in the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. In that movie there’s a very long detour all about a civil war battle over a bridge. It does advance our main story in ways but is also its own isolated tale. I feel like Rockstar was trying to pay homage to it with Guarma.
I would've loved to have seen more of Arthur actually put his foot down more against Micah and Dutch. Cause in Chapter 6 he definitely questioned Dutch's motives and orders especially Micah's but just went along with it despite the fact that they were doing things half assed and more dangerous than usual.
Out of all the things that could have happened after robbing a bank, getting ship wrecked on an island and fighting a dictator in a revolution is not something I would have ever guessed. I enjoyed Guarma I just wish we could visit it again or have more to do there.
I remember before the interation at 6:44, I walked up to Dutch but didn't start the dialogue. He was repeating the same line about chess moves over and over. I stayed for a few minutes, convinced he was losing it. Sure maybe rockstar only gave him 1 line but I really lost faith in him then
I would have loved to have seen a civil war happening within the gang instead of the slower fracture and splintering that happens. I think it could have put a lot more gang members on screen in interesting ways as their loyalties and motivations for being within the gang are tested and revealed. I think it also could have contextualized more what “the good old days” for the Van der Linde gang in its heyday was like. it would be fun to explore a very hurt and vulnerable part of the gang that leaves to follow Arthur, who doesn’t want to leave but has had his hand forced, may not really a very good leader at all (lol), and then who also will be revealed to be sick and dying as time progresses. Plus! if he leaves, it will validate a lot of Dutch’s paranoid musings, which compounded with Hosea’s death, could really send him off the rails. I could see a lot of drama, action, and betrayal there within the gang 😊
If you notice in the background of the “my last boy” cutscene when Arthur calls out Dutch and Micah you can see John, Charles and Sadie all get up and to most likely back up Arthur so this gang civil war you spoke of could of actually happened but then the whole commotion with the native Americans happened
The thing about Dutch killing the old woman that gets me is the fact he gives her the last bar of gold with the understanding that it is payment for her to lead them through the tunnels. She then pulls a knife on Dutch and threatens him for more. I think Dutch wasn’t completely justified in killing her but I also don’t view her innocent as so many try to make her out to be. She pulled an knife and got aggressive with him in an effort to extort more gold off of Dutch. I’m always bothered by how the game paints the entire situation as Dutch being evil but the fact she was clearly extorting and threatening Dutch and by extension Arthur gets glossed over.
Yeah, that always bothered me, too. Like, sure, it may not have been the most *moral* thing to do, but if Dutch hadn't done what he did, then the old woman would've either came back, made noise to alert the authorities, or stabbed him and/or Arthur. The fact that she started brandishing her knife on her own accord means that we can argue self-defense rather than outright murder.
Probably because murder is so out of character for Dutch who's silver-tongued and would like to rely on his charisma to get himself out of trouble. Remember in chapter 1 that the rest of the gang couldn't believe Dutch shot a girl with no reason indicating that violence wasn't the part of Dutch's persona
I powered through Guarma as fast as I could first play-through because it wasn't very appealing to me. I would have preferred Arthur washup ashore in Lamoyne somewhere and get captured by the Lamoyne raiders or the remainder of the blood feud family's and have to find a way to escape or destroy his captors but in the act of that get really beaten down like he did in Guarma so there is not any of the storyline of Arthur coming to terms with his life and mortality and his final days trying to save the people he cares about before his time is up. If your playing a high honour game i mean but I would assume low honour Arthur would just take off after seeing Dutch's deterioration and go lone wolf nomad and enjoy his finals days somewhere as far away from everyone he could get.
that what i thoough too, if authur never gone to grauma, he woulda survive a few years at lease. he would have the strength to killed micha at the spot., but chapter 4 ending set the turning point hosea and lenny death
What’s funny to me is I’ve always thought he was right about that old lady in Guarma. Like idk why but I never got a good feeling about her leading us I thought we were gonna get kidnapped
Guarma was a pivotal part for the story of RDR2, and I appreciate it for the events that take place and the story it tells, but as a player, I hated it, and even though it was less upsetting on a second playthrough, it will always leave a bad taste in my mouth. Gaurma would work well in a movie, but I think as a game, there could have been a better, less frustrating way to tell the same story
I think the Guarma chapter was also important because it really showed how and why Tahiti would not have worked for Dutch and the gang even if Dutch really intended on getting them there and they did somehow reach Tahiti. Much like Tahiti, Guarma is a tropical island where Dutch and the rest of the gang were outsiders, and if they got to Tahiti they probably would have caused trouble and been driven off the island-if they survived long enough to escape Tahiti, that is.
Guarma is important because that’s where Dutch wanted to go in order to escape the law, but only found more trouble. It’s also where he finds a cause to fight for, cuz all dutch wants to do is fight. He’s a savage in a savage land. It’s the perfect backdrop for a crazed beast to show his true colors.
And the fact Arthur gets shipwrecked on a tropical island (Dutch's ideal location, which he comments on, with Charles, in the mission where you clear Beaver Hollow) with the 4 people who will later betray him; Dutch, Micah, Bill and Javier.
And possibly give TB to mary Linton.... that would make arthur morgan like Himura kenshin From ruroni kenshin....giving Karou small pox or some other disease.
I like the Guarma chapter, I think its a good way to show in a meta way how chaotic things have gotten in general and how far everything has fallen apart.
Guarma was included to placate the button-mashers. The rest of the game is story-based and slow moving. In Guarma, nothing much happens story-wise but players get to shoot a lot and blow stuff up. Its a case of trying to be everything for everyone.
I think the tropical setting is a underrated narrative settings, the theme of the game is how you can’t ever leave behind your sins. They start in the snowy mountains and get chased down all the way to the tropics, but it always ends the same for them.
I think it's important that Arthur and especially Dutch see in Guarma, that there's no running away from civilization and progress. It's everywhere what the Van Der linde gang is trying to avoid.
The chapter serves a purpose but it’s executed poorly an island paradise revolution so far removed from west they should have just been in a tight situation that breaks Dutch not a revolution
@@terminallumbago6465 and part of the free roam map that's why guarma felt unnecessary, escaping to Mexico would have been better since we never saw dutch even mention it
Great video! The pros of Guarma was seeing how Dutch became more ruthless including selfish, seeing how Dutch's greed including his criminal act causes many consequences, and seeing the new scenery. The con of Guarma was how it make Arthur not have much exploring the island, micah not caring about Hosea including Lenny's death, and many others. I wasn't a fan of Guarma due to it leading Arthur to be sick and not enough spending time with the gang for other missions. I wished that RDR2 could have allowed ArthurMorgan to have more missions with Hosea, Mary Beth, Sean, and Lenny. I would have liked the idea of Hosea telling Arthur before he died saying be careful of Dutch and thank you for being loyal to me. The death of Lenny and Hosea in Chapter 4 hit me really hard because they were good to the gang and cared about Arthur despite challenges. If there was a RDR2 remake I would have liked the idea where Arthur could rescue Hosea including Lenny from dying, Arthur rejecting the idea of doing the st Denis Bank mission, and Arthur deciding to not rescue micah from prison. Also I think that Guarma chapter increased Arthur's sickness to TB. Also I wished that there could have been a mission where Lady Belle could approach Arthur Morgan, Hosea, Lenny, Sean, Charles, Susan Grimshaw, and the rest of the gang to spy on Micah because Lady Belle heard that Micah was a rat. Another idea I thought that I would have wanted is how Arthur, Mary Beth, and Hosea have a plan to secretly disguise themselves as people wanting to buy property in blackwater to recover the money with the help from Trelenay and have a short mission of Arthur and Mary Beth have fling.
Yeah like a DLC rhat changes the games story events ( that you can switch on and off resulting different save files ) and it ends with Arthur waking up from a dream and after that you can still play as living arthur with the whole map unlocked
I don't blame Dutch for killing the old lady in the cave. rather or not she was gonna turn them in is beside the point . She pulled out a knife to Dutch Vanderlin. No one can do that and live to see another day....
I think the simple Arthur is that it would have taken a but longer for the Van Der Linde gang to fall apart and for Arthur to die. Not too much just a bit.
Tbh i think if author would've never caught tb and hosea never would've died dutch would've kept his mental state more steady have hosea to keep him sane, and maybe they could've lived their happy ever after 🤷♀️🤷♀️
If they don't expand dutches kindness before these events and why these people joined him in red dead 3 rockstar is doing an injustice to his motion capture artist Benjamin Byron Davis
I had a thought about another mission, the mission where Arthur was collecting a Struas dept from the widow of the Arthur from the mine in Annesburg. He ends up giving her money while apologizing to her...what if Arthur was broke? How would that scene play out?
After you exit guarma you can do glitches to return you can to guarma and return whenever you want you just need 2 weapons so do the glitches ins't that hard, BUT PLEASE DO A SAVE BEFORE GETTING IN GUARMA.
If Arthur did survive I think he would be with his girlfriend, but I think he would’ve helped John but not to kill there friend’s I think he could find a I know, though way to help them get John’s family back
If guarma didn't happen arthur wouldn't have gotten TB it would have taken decades for TB to come as it would have stayed dormant infact back in those days many people didn't even knew if they had TB due to their healthy lifestyle and good immunity, arthur was a healthy man but the guarms messed his body
I thought the guarma chapter was perfect, it was short and was the ultimate way to show that there was no running from the new world order, which I believe is one of the main themes of the game but think about it, even when the gang unintentionally ended up in a random island they were still easily found, imagine how devastating that would be to people trying to escape, this is not a Micah defense post but it’s really no surprise that this was also when Micah turned into a rat, the writing was on the wall
What if it's so Rockstar can make a type of spin-off. The Guarma Redemption or whatever. Or a version of RDR3 could be more of a cross up with GTA. Where Jack Marston finds himself after WWI....??
if guarma never happened and they would have get away with money the game would have ended and micah would not betray and the rest of the gang would escape with the money to tahiti
Not gonna lie there where two events that harden Arthur death of his family,Gurama before Gurama lots of rdr2 players played arthur like Gunslinger and cowboy after gurama we Took Risks like charging at the enemies litterly like soliders he become a Soldier mindset he was trying to the right thing and realizing Dutch is made like the guy who controled the island of Gurama He was no longer Scared to face Police or US Army either because he fought Military in a way Arthur Did become " " Legend of the East" like remember asking where the rest of my Allies there taking cover will i have killed half of the US Troops already and started to think this what Rockstar was trying to do the player to realize He changed he meet Hemish Sinclair and That deserter guy with wife
@@Everyonesbuddy829you don’t need mods. You can go outside the map and go through Mexico to go to guarma if I remember correctly. It’s more of a exploit.

If guarma never happened micah wouldn’t of ratted coz milton said in chapter 6 that they found micah when they got back from guarma meaning someone else wouldve ratted
2:45 to be fair she pulled a knife on him after already getting gold from him. I’m actually disappointed that no matter your honour Arthur still berates Dutch for this. High Honour ok but if I’ve been playing the game robbing and killing folk it just irks me to see Arthur be so judgemental when honestly it’s one of the more justifiable of Dutch’s killings.
Saying guarma is the wrong route for the story is ridiculous, it would feel stale to just up and leave like you already have several times, the game would’ve felt slow, going to guarma revitalizes the rest of the game, right before guarma the game does start to lose some steam then it kicks in to and extra gear you didn’t have before
it would just be unknown the biggest effect would be them not losing the 150 thousand dollars and even with arthur getting 20 thousand of the cut which can completly get him escaped and the women and children if dutch never wanted to. the game would just end there
The captain of the boat that Dutch's gang board to is really dumb. First of all you will have to cancel the sailing of your boat if there is bad weather. Why? Well the worst thing that can happen are 2 things A: Your ship will be sank by a storm. Which happened in the game & they ended up in Guarma. B: Because of rouge waves your ship can split in half causing it to sink in much worst way possible.
honestly, if it wasn’t for dutch’s stupid, busted ass plans, they should’ve just left the money at home with the people who were still there and let them handle the money

Right. Even the Mexico chapter in RDR1 felt more connected to the story than this did.
That sounds horrible.
I smell a underrated youtuber! Hope the channel gets off soon!
I don't blame Dutch for killing the old lady in the cave. rather or not she was gonna turn them in is beside the point . She pulled out a knife to Dutch Vanderlin. No one can do that and live to see another day....
glazing
12:00 here’s when he gets to the damn point
Dutch: Knocks out grandma for pulling a KNIFE on him
Arthur: “You monster!”
If Hosea didn't die, the gang would still be in one piece.
I think the simple Arthur is that it would have taken a but longer for the Van Der Linde gang to fall apart and for Arthur to die. Not too much just a bit.
Tbh i think if author would've never caught tb and hosea never would've died dutch would've kept his mental state more steady have hosea to keep him sane, and maybe they could've lived their happy ever after 🤷♀️🤷♀️
Taking out hosea and lenny rlly made me dislike the story sm 😭😭
Hosea kept Dutch level. Imo Dutch was always crazy, but Micah fanned the flames.
@@terminallumbago6465 facts bro
Should have put Mexico as the place they went
it would have been cool to see the start of the revolution
Yup
Congrats on the 1k bud!
Thank you!
If they don't expand dutches kindness before these events and why these people joined him in red dead 3 rockstar is doing an injustice to his motion capture artist Benjamin Byron Davis
"The game ain't over, Arthur."
- Dutch before the game ends
I enjoy going to guarma. It’s an exciting and beautiful, but short, pastime.
These are good man !
Glad you are enjoying them
I had a thought about another mission, the mission where Arthur was collecting a Struas dept from the widow of the Arthur from the mine in Annesburg.
Guarma felt like a out of place DLC. Why was this, a tropical themed call of duty type mission, in my western game?
Arthur probably had acute tuberculosis pneumonia from almost drowning, I do believe he wouldn't have deteriorated so badly if he didn't inhale water
Bronte had to die
Im so mad that we never got what the red dead team envisioned for guarma
I thought the guarma chapter was perfect, it was short and was the ultimate way to show that there was no running from the new world order, which I believe is one of the main themes of the game
but think about it, even when the gang unintentionally ended up in a random island they were still easily found, imagine how devastating that would be to people trying to escape, this is not a Micah defense post but it’s really no surprise that this was also when Micah turned into a rat, the writing was on the wall
I didn't want it not to happen, I just wish they woulda released the game a little later to flesh out some of that more. 😢
i feel like if arthur went with john, he would have been able to rest , eventually rekindle things with sadie, and died a happy man
What piece of music is a the start of the video?
Nah tbf i think it would have been a great plot twist
To be fair, the old woman pulled a knife on Dutch...
Not gonna lie there where two events that harden Arthur death of his family,Gurama before Gurama lots of rdr2 players played arthur like Gunslinger and cowboy after gurama we Took Risks like charging at the enemies litterly like soliders he become a Soldier mindset he was trying to the right thing and realizing Dutch is made like the guy who controled the island of Gurama He was no longer Scared to face Police or US Army either because he fought Military in a way Arthur Did become " " Legend of the East" like remember asking where the rest of my Allies there taking cover will i have killed half of the US Troops already and started to think this what Rockstar was trying to do the player to realize He changed he meet Hemish Sinclair and That deserter guy with wife
you can go to guarma any time you want as long you finish chapter 1
No you can't. That island is only made for chapter 5 not even on the map of the game. You can access it using only mods.
@@Everyonesbuddy829dude…
@@Everyonesbuddy829you don’t need mods. You can go outside the map and go through Mexico to go to guarma if I remember correctly. It’s more of a exploit.
I never got why people didn’t like guarma, I keep a separate save of it at all times just so I can revisit the scenery
What if Arthur managed to kill Clom when he was kidnapped how would that impact the story.
Idk she pointed a knife at Dutch I feel him on that
What if author never got TB and never went to collect that money would that have changed the course of the game 🤔
2:11 in cold blood? She pulled a knife on him🔪
To be fair she literally pointed a knife to dutch's neck
if Arthur did not get ill, would Sadie and Arthur get together at the end
to be honest i dont get why people say dutch killing angelo bronte was an act of cold blooded murder. bronte had had so many people killed and if left to live wouldve brought more issues for the gang
If guarma never happened micah wouldn’t of ratted coz milton said in chapter 6 that they found micah when they got back from guarma meaning someone else wouldve ratted
I do think arthur wouldve ended up with sadie if he did survive
The soundtrack that plays in background can u pls tell me the name
2:45 to be fair she pulled a knife on him after already getting gold from him. I’m actually disappointed that no matter your honour Arthur still berates Dutch for this. High Honour ok but if I’ve been playing the game robbing and killing folk it just irks me to see Arthur be so judgemental when honestly it’s one of the more justifiable of Dutch’s killings.
Okay but killing the old lady wasnt bad if the game wouldve let me i wouldve done it bc aint no way she gon try to take my gold
Saying guarma is the wrong route for the story is ridiculous, it would feel stale to just up and leave like you already have several times, the game would’ve felt slow, going to guarma revitalizes the rest of the game, right before guarma the game does start to lose some steam then it kicks in to and extra gear you didn’t have before
the game wouldn't have had a lackluster chapter that feels like a CoD level because of how linear it is
Hosea wasn’t he’s father and Lenny wasn’t his brother
Not literally but in a very real way they were
I don't know who your video editor is... But they need to lay off the caffeine.
Arthur shoulda been uncle in rdr
I love guarma
GUARMA DREAM
Dutch....
9:44
it would just be unknown the biggest effect would be them not losing the 150 thousand dollars and even with arthur getting 20 thousand of the cut which can completly get him escaped and the women and children if dutch never wanted to. the game would just end there
I'd guess saint denis bank had way more money than the Blackwater Ferry like 200-300k$
🤙
too much bla-bla here, the gang should have gone to mexico instead of guarma
I don’t know why but I love Guarma
Same, is a dream , Guarma Dream...
i got 669 like on this video
The captain of the boat that Dutch's gang board to is really dumb. First of all you will have to cancel the sailing of your boat if there is bad weather. Why? Well the worst thing that can happen are 2 things A: Your ship will be sank by a storm. Which happened in the game & they ended up in Guarma. B: Because of rouge waves your ship can split in half causing it to sink in much worst way possible.
I wish you could actually explore it without getting sniped
*Mods have entered the chat*
@@Casual_guy1234 i dont play on pc
@@cowragegames6880 neither do I lol
honestly, if it wasn’t for dutch’s stupid, busted ass plans, they should’ve just left the money at home with the people who were still there and let them handle the money
“I think, maybe, they should’ve, what if” how about you make a successful red dead game? What then artard?
I think you have a typo
