Thanks for the review!! On the note of level curves, we wanted to keep things close to the original, and I think it’s pretty universal that Gen 1 is experienced with a trailing level against the enemy as the game goes on! So we wanted to keep it like that! Overall, really appreciated all your thoughts and feedback! Everything felt constructive and extremely valid! I definitely think you make a strong case for Blaine getting the scaling as well, and I was pretty torn on that decision myself!
Honestly, it is an incredible remake and you guys found a balance of gen 1 mechanics and new features! I know that Yellow can be a fiddly mess to work with but this was very well done
Great video! - I think you asked exactly the right question in “Is it still Gen 1?” - its possible to go too far with these things and end up making something closer to a Gen 2 game or something else completely!
I was worried that it could stray off course really easily - especially since this team previously did a Crystal hack. They did hold back from any major changes, but you can definitely feel that they modernized move power and learnsets
I think a good solution for the lack of experience problem would be that once a pokemon reaches max friendship, they get a 1.25x multiplier, but only for pokemon who are NOT the highest level on the team. I'm not sure how that could be coded, but I like it a lot. It encourages you not only to build a full team, discourages sacrificing mons to prevent loss of friendship, and wouldn't reward any mons who are trying to solo the game. I waited to watch anything to do with Yellow Legacy so I could hear your take on things. I'm not a massive fan of Generation 1 but this looks like an incredibly fun idea for anything BUT a Nuzlocke for a newb like me! Better variety to catch, better variety to battle, and meaningful changes that make the game (like Mr Mime with your mom so she isn't.... lonely) that make things really fun. I also love all of the references to the anime. Altogether it seems to be what I hope to see in a romhack; there are a bunch of changes to make the game more interesting and fun to play. You did a fantastic job with this man!
I really like the friendship exp idea! Gen 1 has a tough time managing exp since many people end up soloing the game with their starter. I'm really impressed with how the team incorporated the anime references
That was an honest review!is it gen 1? technically, yes,but the feel in my opinion is more like a mix of gen 1 with gen 2 features in it,done with the same approach as they did with crystal legacy. 😊 It has some interesting aspects, and it adds on a nice post game content too,but overall for a solo run I would prefer the original yellow version. I do think that it could be kind challenging to play as a nuzlocke though. I really liked that you played the game with early game pokemons and won without grinding too much. Well done!💪
I was surprised at Blaine being left out of the triad too. I know that's how she is presented on the trainer card but I don't think I've ever fought Sabrina right after Koga. Either I entered Saffron after the Pokemon Tower right as it's available or after I defeated Blaine and have nothing more to do. I don't think the thought of going back to Saffron would ever even cross my mind with how busy Fuchsia is with promoting the new Surf ability to me
I think the Onix buffs was for us. Love Onix and glad to see him finally become an awesome member of my team. I don't think Onix is that bad to fight against at all. Would rather fight Onix than the early Butterfrees with Sleep Powder. In fact anything with sleep is super annoying because in Gen 1 the opponent chooses their move AFTER you decide to switch meaning that if you try to swap out a pokemon who is asleep they'll just sleep your new Pokemon before it gets to do anything.
Idk if you noticed this change they made or not but they gave dragon a actual useable move in slam which was changed to dragon type which I find neat cause it really then shows how good dragon is in Gen 1 when they are given a stab move
Great video!!! I really liked the rom hack, made me wanna complete the pokedex. And the approach for nuzlocke was a nice touch in my opinion! Anyway, where is the review on crystal legacy which is just super awesome aswell
I thought they did great implementing his teams because if he loses every single time he begins to think that electric types are awesome and that's why he gets the Jolteon
so you say you usually skip all trainers around vermilion, rockets in celadon, trainers on both roads to fuschia and most of the other non-compulsory battles and then you complain you are underlevelled...
I skip those trainers when playing a solo run or if only using pikachu and the starters since they level faster than other experience groups. This playthrough I fought most available trainers in the game
I’m surprised how much they buffed it, since it now has a better BST than Rhydon. It’s actually 3rd highest stat total in the game (not counting legendaries)
Im gonna be completely honest with you and its not that big of a deal but your thumbnail is a little misleading, I thought this was going to be a GBA rom hack. Still cool though either way, just thought I'd give that little heads up.
Fact. It was changed based on America's bias. American foos saw something in it they personally thought, and applied it to something with nothing to do with it. Personal opinion, btdubs.
Thanks for the review!!

The SmithPlays team really put in the work with the ROM hack! Check out his video linked in the description to learn how to play it for yourself
The changes to Onix weren’t all about making Brock harder, they were to make Onix actually useable in a playthrough.

The Pinsir in Viridian Forest is actually a nod to the anime episode. The bug catcher Ash battles has a Pinsir.
This is an elite version! Such a shame it’s not a card version!😂banger video as always!❤
Idk if you noticed this change they made or not but they gave dragon a actual useable move in slam which was changed to dragon type which I find neat cause it really then shows how good dragon is in Gen 1 when they are given a stab move
I didn’t notice until after the playthrough, but I love that change! It gives Lance something more unique than his Normal moves
I love the Old Road change, it's like an awareness check.
Awesome video, need to give this 1 a try‼️🕹🎮🔥
you weren't underlevel for Lt. Surge, the ideia is he really being an overleveled boss, a staple in some rpgs, that's why he has only one pokemon
Great video!!! I really liked the rom hack, made me wanna complete the pokedex. And the approach for nuzlocke was a nice touch in my opinion! Anyway, where is the review on crystal legacy which is just super awesome aswell
It is a good hack... but perfect? no way... the closest to perfection until this date is Pokemon Shin (Red, Green and Blue)
It's very similar to Shin.
I thought they did great implementing his teams because if he loses every single time he begins to think that electric types are awesome and that's why he gets the Jolteon
If you want to evolve from a young pup
You gotta train your mons and get yo pp up
That's what she said
@@rebelrouzer5318she had a thing cue ball's belt buckle, so she can still get crit when she can't get the pp up.
I would love to see a Tauros solo run on this version!
Sounds like you will have to do a solo of Yellow Legacy. Maybe a Onix only run?
13:24 it’s a reference to the anime.
Is there a guide , like in crystal legacy
so you say you usually skip all trainers around vermilion, rockets in celadon, trainers on both roads to fuschia and most of the other non-compulsory battles and then you complain you are underlevelled...
I skip those trainers when playing a solo run or if only using pikachu and the starters since they level faster than other experience groups. This playthrough I fought most available trainers in the game
I think when he said usually, he meant when he usually plays pokemon yellow, not during the romhack.
Which emulator are you using?
What about pokemon yellow strike?
Onix was buffed so that the player can use it as a viable party member.
I’m surprised how much they buffed it, since it now has a better BST than Rhydon. It’s actually 3rd highest stat total in the game (not counting legendaries)
But Poliwrath isn't a duck!
Not to mention this game was so Zesty
By the way Pikachu can learn Hm Surf
Yeah! And it even learns Fly too!
It can learn EVERY HM
Im gonna be completely honest with you and its not that big of a deal but your thumbnail is a little misleading, I thought this was going to be a GBA rom hack. Still cool though either way, just thought I'd give that little heads up.
That’s based on the image that SmithPlays used for his thumbnail. I’m not sure why, but that’s how he shows the game. Thanks for the feedback though!
Why did they make Jynx fully purple? What a horrible idea.
What color did you want Jynx to be?
German flag colors I assume

I like Pokémon
