    You are right. It’s not the car’s fault. If you go into a corner too hot in a rear wheel drive car without traction control, the last thing you should do is lift on the gas. The weight that is keeping the rear wheels planted on the pavement suddenly shifts forward, causing the rear wheels to lose traction and around you go. Earlier 911s got a bad reputation for doing this because TC had not been invented yet and untrained drives would buy them and go out and kill themselves. It was always blamed on the car because the engine is behind the rear axle. This might be somewhat true but you had to know the car’s limitations. Just because it was a Porsche did mean you could corner at any speed you wanted.

    One big problem with a C-GT, the rear shock setup, check the retainer set screws at the bottom end of the coilovers and make sure they are set correctly and tight. If you lose a rear shock due to this problem, you'll most definitely be heading off road and possibly into a tree or building.

    Damon Fryer from DDE had a mechanical failure on the rear suspension system in his CGT like a week ago. He said the car's rear end felt like it went sideways. Then questioned if that could have happened to Paul Walker's CGT. It was a common failure in the component but Porsche never recalled it.

    • @tjroelsma
      @tjroelsma 2 роки тому +88

      Nope, the scene investigation report clearly showed that that crash was caused by taking a corner at a way too high speed with a "tuned" car that was on old tyres and that had not been serviced by a qualified Porsche mechanic in several years. The multiple attempts from both Paul Walker's and Roger Rodas' families and fans made to blame it on Porsche are pretty lame.
      But it kind of figures with the very popular US culture of not accepting any responsibility and always trying to shift blame. The Porsche Carrera GT was sold as "the closest experience to a racecar that's road legal you can buy" and it came with the explicit warning that the driver needed to be extremely high skilled because the car was "no compromises at all." Yet a lot of Americans with more money than driving skills bought it, crashed it and then blamed Porsche for selling them "an undriveable car." And in my opinion pretty ignorant judges validated their claims.

    0:46 Ben Chen was very intoxicated; the car did not fail. He was very intoxicated, hence why he continued to drive for blocks after the initial crash and even got back into the car and tried to drive off while police officers were on scene. He could also be seen stumbling around after the crash. It had nothing to do with the car being “dangerous” or failing it simply had to do with BC being extremely intoxicated and making extremely poor and dangerous decisions as a result.

    Sadly, the CGT never had a proper set of tyres - and Walter Rohl has stated that the only issue with the CGT is this lack.
    The CGT has never killed anyone. But people have killed themselves in CGTs. This is a very important distinction. If you claim the CGT has killed people, then you also need to accept that Ferraris and Lamborghinis also kill a lot of people.

    Interesting take on the this model. It truly was a no-nonsense automobile that did not tolerate either fool or novice. This is a very specialize tool meant for only those with the proper skills necessary to survive the experiences this extreme expression in automotive engineering. I'll be the first to state I've no business owning one. It is far more than I could handle. Had I one it would be for show - not for driving. It also happens to be art in my opinion. I own several motorcycles. Among this is a Suzuki Hayabusa that remain pretty much stock. A few mods but nothing at all extreme. It is too much bike for me. As an owner I will never see the full potential of this bike, but that's not why I have it. I simply loves how it looks. I ride it occasionally and never very far or at anywhere near what is is capable of. I've not been past 120 on it and that was maybe twice. It is 23 years old this year and has but a little over 5K on the odometer. I'd rather look at it than ride it.

It isn't an isolated incident. The suspension hat loosened up and, once it got to a certain point, the stud ripped the threads out and dropped it. It's happened on multiple cgt's. It's possible that that failure combined with old tires is what caused Paul walker's death

I look in the rear view and i see this thing, a carrera gt weaving in and out of traffic and sounding like a banshee on the prowl. Silver of course...seems they dont look right in any other color.
