both awesome guitars, and sound very similar. Its very cool to see Mick and Pete demoing guitars in this channel, its a nice combination of guitar players with a nice taste of playing
This is my favorite show on the Andertons channel. Pete and Mick are stellar players and test the most delicious guitars and amps. Love when they play back and forth and jam together. Great stuff!
I have a few 335's from various years, but Kudos to Gibson Memphis on this 335 Studio. I finally had a chance to put these through their paces after set up. Despite Gibson's financial woes and quality issues with Les Paul's, these 335's are some of the best Gibson's I have played since 2010. Putting looks aside from a a Figured Top I favor the ES 335 Studio. The slightly over wound 57 humbucker in the rear smokes while the front 57 humbucker is one of the thickest & warmest I have ever played. Together they are well balanced. The all maple body with the maple fret board adds plenty of spank that is controllable by rolling back the tone pots. The Ginger Burst is also a welcome addition to the product line. It pops under lighting. All that being said I give these instruments 👍👍👍👍👍
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give us a series called 'Licks with Mick' where mick teaches us some of his favorite blues and other style lead licks! I would gladly pay for this!
As a 339 owner, I think the biggest tonal difference stems from the natural picking location. The 339 is not far off LP dimensions and youll naturally play in a similar spot, compared to the 335 that kind of forces you farther toward the neck. You can get them to sound pretty damn close if you're paying attention to that
Yes the 339 is great. The body of the 339 is basically a 335 but scaled down to the size of a Les Paul for players who don't like the size of big semi-hollow guitars. I prefer them myself; they're great for guys who've always used solid body electrics rather than the big 335-style guitars :-)
I SOOOO enjoy watching you two. I know the tones are going to be clean, nothing set to “11”, with 2 extra distortion pedals added, and not every other note a harmonic.
Thanks for this video! Just purchased 2016 ES 339 studio with '57 Classics online, and wanted to hear the difference between the Burstbuckers and these pups. I really like the '57 Classics as I tend to go for that Seymour Duncan Seth Lover type of throaty solid mid-range tone. But hearing the switch position differences is a great bonus!! I picked this guitar for the pups besides the compact size, and I'm really happy with my choice now. Thanks again!!
You guys are fun. Thanks for the music. Both of you have wonderful musical ideas. Pete when you tried on the pretty burst 339 you played your first riff on it and the sound was gorgeous.I'm a guy and that is the word I choose to use.A note that reached me. Thanks,Andy Capp!
I'd love to hear a video of these two guys just jamming on their respective favorite pieces of gear together, then explain why they like each component of their own gear.
the studio sounds much clearer and smoother and I like the extra output. usually the hotter pickups will be a bit muddy but in this case they keep the clarity despite the extra windings. I think the maple neck and the baked maple board balance out the extra windings if the 57 and super 57. for the price I would go with the 335 studio.
i'd love to see a little more guitar swapping chaps. Other than that - preferred the sound of the higher end to the studio guitars though they all sounded great.
+Woodeso's Guitar Mods I recon he met Robert Johnson, down at the crossroads ;-) Great sounds, and great guitars I thought the studio had the brighter edge.
Studio 339 sounded the best to me, the classic 57s are much sweeter sounding pickups to my ears than the burstbuckers. My Gibson CS 339 has 57's and my les paul has burstbuckers and the 57s are definitely better sounding imo.
335s sound better - brighter, better articulation. If you heard the 339s by themselves, you'd think they sounded pretty damn good, but they don't sound as good next to the 335s.
Hey Andertons, could you guys maybe get Mick and Pete to demo the THR10? It would be great to hear what kind of sounds they would get out of a bedroom amp!
To my ears, you can clearly hear the maple and the 57 classics in the studio. More pronounced mids, while the classic 335 has a bit more top end. Both sound excellent, though!
'57 classics are well proven and aim to give (as the name suggests) the early Gibson PAF tone. The bridge is slightly hotter so you can set up for rhythm on the neck and go straight into lead with a flick of the toggle switch. BB 1&2 are a more stock pickup and nothing particularly special. You can replace with PRS 57/08s and it will lift this guitar immediately.
Once I get my hands on this, I’m going I put a Gibson Dirty fingers in the bridge and deactivate the neck pickups so that the selector switch becomes a kill switch. This may sound disgusting to some people, but I’m going to try to turn this into a guitar made for rock. Wish me luck that I don’t mess it up 😂.
Why is there such a big price variation between some recent models of Gibson ES-335 and others -- some of them relatively cheap, for a hollow Gibson (e.g "GIBSON MEMPHIS 2018 ES-335 DOT IN BLUES BURST" for £1,999) and some over £4,000 (e.g. "GIBSON MEMPHIS 2018 ES-335 61 IN HISTORIC BURST")? Neither is a well-preserved 50s or 60s guitar, they're both modern remakes and not Studio models. And why are 339s so cheap -- you'd expect them to be in the mid-£3K bracket at least, not the lower £2K.
why don't you guys do the Dave Grohl signature DG-335??? that is such a great guitar.. plz do a video on it. plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
This faded lightburst color seems so dark in Anderton's Store picks. Is it the pics and the guitar is regularly orange like this one in the video or does it vary a lot? Thanks in advance
Juan Manuel Sosa Padrón it depends on the lighting. If you have it in low lighting it looks orange. With bright lights it looks more like a faded light burst
The thing that gets me, the 335 studio is not that nice a looking guitar, really. It has classic 57 pickups which you can buy for about 200quid. I would be very interested to feel and hear the difference between an epiphone 335 with classic 57s in it (cost about 600quid total?) against the 335 studio at 1600quid
I had always thought the Burstbuckers were hotter than the '57's -- In various demos they've often sounded too harsh for my tastes. Here they sounded more like the '57s with slightly rolled off tops. Wonder if it is due to the hollow body?
bluesboynate - I checked the Gibson website. I was unaware of how many '57s and Burstbuckers there were. Burstbucker 1,2,3,Pro, 57classic, classic 4wire, plus, super. Thanks.
northof50now The 57 classic plus is wound 1K hotter for the bridge position. The strings vibrate more over the neck pickup so the bridge is wound hotter in most modern sets to compensate for output . The Burstbucker 1,2, and 3 are more faithful recreations of PAFs with the lack of wax potting, unbalanced coils, and closer output levels.
Yes. I am learning more about them. I have a LesPaul with a Classic in the neck and a Super in the bridge. Both can be coil tapped. I like both humbucker positions, but the verdict is still out on the sound when tapped. It is a different sound, but not certain how usable at this point.
northof50now Vintage output humbuckers aren't very good split IMO because the output is too low and weak when split. You might consider getting a tech to wire them to switch from series to parallel instead. More useable IMO and hum-cancelling both ways. The DiMarzio Bluesbucker is a great sounding vintage humbucker/P-90 type pickup that splits well. Most of the output comes from the screw coil so it sounds P-90ish and give a Strat-type output when split.

Top wrapped it, fitted 60's double bound Kluson's and Gold Hats and it looks lovely. Great fun to play
One Andertons video a day keeps the depression pills away!

+Timothy Lasswell i thought you were naming the pre-show ritual where these tossers give each other a rim job.
Are you British or Irish? Only they (us) can use the word 'tossers' so expertly. Nice one!
Mick Taylor Neither actually. Just a stupid Yank. Thanks anyways though.
It was all in good fun. Keep up the good work. Cheers.
THIS is what I've been waiting for over all the other Gibson videos for 2016.
I have a 339 Custom Shop 1000% recommended is the most versatile guitar I’ve ever own !
These Gentlemen play with such a soul and heart. Very good
I'll say it again. I could listen you pair all day long. You are a total joy fella's
This is a great comparison between the 335 and 339. The smaller body on the 339 really doesn't seem to give anything away. Impressive.

@@lordmanshaft1112 Thanks for the input. I suspect I'd be happier with a 339.
A Gibson Memphis ES-339 is probably my dream hollow body guitar. I just love how they look compared to a 335.

I just picked up a 2016 ES 335 Studio last week. I love it!
Mick n Pete what a combination! I love your vids, always funny, informative and fantastic playing!
Pete with a jacket and a 335 looks so like Marty McFly
This is easily the most fun I’ve had watching an Anderson’s video!!!!!!!!!!!!
That studio 335 is gorgeous
Two terrific guys & two terrific Gibson Memphis guitars
That's it. I'm buying an ES335. Sorry wife and kids : p

I have a 2014 Memphis ES-339 and I %110 recommend it, tremendous quality coming out of Memphis

One of my favorite episodes of all time
Hey, guys, once again your demo reviews are my favorites-plenty of great comparisons and info. Thank you! sold
I love these videos, cuz it is not a shredfest. That you can find all day and twice on Sunday. Since I’m a tad older, I like this playing mote.
I'd love to hear a video of these two guys just jamming on their respective favorite pieces of gear together, then explain why they like each component of their own gear.
I just bought a custom shop 339 and it’s is the greatest purchase I’ve ever nade
The duel at six minutes in...
Mick's Face: 'okay, I see what you're doing'
Pete's face: 'Bitch you think you can take me?'
I bought the studio used today. 1299.99 canadian. Very satisfied.
Another brilliant video, I love the these guitars. Great playing
I was so focused on those amazing ping-pong riffs between you two that it was hard to tell the tone difference between the tones!
the studio sounds much clearer and smoother and I like the extra output. usually the hotter pickups will be a bit muddy but in this case they keep the clarity despite the extra windings. LOVE the riff trading thing. Us guys at home can play along and (try) to keep up too! :D
I like Peter, cool guy
i'd love to see a little more guitar swapping chaps.
Other than that - preferred the sound of the higher end to the studio guitars though they all sounded great.
You people's make my day full stop
You should use the Digi Tech Trio for all your videos. Its the best work you've done.
I think Pete made a deal with the devil...He's too good;-) Love the duelling boys!
+Woodeso's Guitar Mods
I recon he met Robert Johnson, down at the crossroads ;-) Great sounds, and great guitars I thought the studio had the brighter edge.
He's secretly the current holder of the pick of destiny ;)
Nice demo...great series. It's possible to hear the subtle differences which is useful. Thanks : -)
Pete's hair matches his guitar PERFECTLY

Hey Andertons,
could you guys maybe get Mick and Pete to demo the THR10? It would be great to hear what kind of sounds they would get out of a bedroom amp!

two serious geeks right there! gotta love it!
Best Gibson es comparison ever! Thanks.
I like the coil winding details. Please provide more info of that type in the next videos :)
339 sounds more Elvis, 335 sounds more like Sinatra. What a beautiful bunch of guitars.

You two are transcribing live
tasty playing, well done, as always
To my ears I notice much less difference between the 339s than the 335. All sound great but the lightburst 335 sounds heavenly!
Which riffs are these? Or are they improvisation of scales?
Well. Get Pete to play anything and I'll instantly want it. LOVE me some 335's tho.
Wow... Beautiful and wonderful guitar... i really love it.. 👌👌
suoni fantastici e molto simili. bravissimi Mick e Pete

How 'bout some guitar lessons from. these two? They're fantastic
The studio is decent for the money but you really get what you pay for with the full es-335 so clear so deep.
The 335 has more mids. 339 is more distorted in a positive way
Is there a link to the Gibson site for these two guitars? I can't seem to find the finish.
Danish Pete is the MAN!!
Great video, shame the audio is clipping!
PLUS 1 THESE TWO BLOKES
The higher output a pickup the more bass and lower mids.
are they using a preamp boost on the clean tones of the es 339 or it's just my guitar that sounds dull?
I wish Gibson would make something in between a 335 and 339. A 337? 336-1/2?
What better way to hold a conversation than with a couple of Memphis slingers?
