- Law school recitations in the Philippines are notoriously difficult not because our professors enjoy when we embarrass ourselves. They are difficult because they are meant to train us for the more rigorous oral arguments we will face now and in the future. Hindi ka man magpa-practice ng litigation, kapatid ay kakailanganin mo rin ang training na ‘to to improve your oral presentation skills. You will need to sell an idea, a direction or a legal theory to a client or your fellow lawyers. This recitation training will come handy one day.

I also have anxiety during recit but I found out that the more you memorize (and of course understand) , the easier it is to recite the 'legal terms' that most professors are waiting for. And yes, focus is key.
I am a grade 6 pupil preparing for Law School HAHAHA, hindi ko po alam kung bakit pero parang gusto ko pong mag ready habang maaga pa.

Gusto ko yung part na “there are professors who make the recitation like a game show and have 3 or four students in front of the class. Okay lang yung kasi group kayong mapapahiya.” 😂 I really felt that kahit hndi sa law school pag group at least damay damay sa kahihiyan. 😂 charot lang anyway, this is really inspiring Atty. lex. I have 11 units in a day.
Persons (5 units) then Crim 1 (4 units) then Legal writing (2 units). And I only have sunday as restday. don’t know how to divide my time for 20 units subjects 😭

I have this habit of using hand gestures esp when I'm emphasizing things. Is that distracting, too?
Hand gestures are fine, sis so long as you're able to explain yourself more. About four times in my law school career, I asked my professor for permission to come forward and to illustrate something on the board. Sometimes the spoken word is inadequate to express our answers. This is when non-verbal communication counts.

I just had my first recit and I was too conscious to go overboard that I felt kinda stiff and contained because I really thought I needed to be too formal that it somehow compromised my explanation. I wanted to expound it in simpler means like exactly talking to a child by ways of gestures or metaphor or representation but I just generalized it. Our professor ended up up explaining it the way I wanted to explain it. Next time I'll try better. Thanks again!
Good for you, kapatid. This is your first recitation and not everyone starts off on the right foot. You have, and you’re already ahead of the curve. There will be about 50, maybe 70 more recitations to come. Do the work ahead of time, and you’ll slay all the rest of them.

Cases should always be recited in the format that your professor requires. Some of them want details, details in the facts and details in the arguments. Others would simply want to hear about the one-sentence doctrine.

Some professors call the recitation based on the attendance. Others prefer to shuffle. Others troll intentionally. I was often asked to recite twice or thrice by an old professor for labor - 15-30 minutes at a time.
He calls my name and the beadle informs him I’ve been called earlier in the meeting (an hour ago).
He usually asks me if I want to recite again. I quietly put down my sandwich and calmly say - yes, sir. I would like to recite again.
