- Here’s an open letter, from the present to my 20-year old self. These are bitter lessons I’ve learned along the harsh years of law school that I genuinely wish I knew as a law school freshman in the Philippines.

1. Wear a watch. Make sure it works and it's set correctly. For Time Management.
2. Present yourself to class 15 mins before the time. To be ready for anything.
3. Get your Beadle's phone number on the first day of classes. To be informed.
4. Make sure your Beadle also has your phone number. To be informed.
5. Get your library card. To be able to access books.
6. Do not highlight everything. Focus on the important topics.
7.Come to class even when you're not prepared. Attendance matters.
8. Come to the first day of classes for the House Rules, Tips, and the Perfect Attendance Incentives.
9. Find a seat near the front of the class but away from the line of sight of the professor.
10. Recitation Anxiety is a real thing. Trust that you'll get better over time. Experience is key to becoming better. Keep your feet together, hands on your side and look at the prof. forehead not their eyes.
11. Volunteer for recitation even when you're not sure of the answer. Volunteer when you're very prepared. Score the easy points whenever you can.
12. Stay hydrated, even during class hours. Watch out for the empty calories in sugar.
13. Check for assignments once daily but be mindful of the time you spend on social media.
14. Begin your study session with a review of the day's tasks. Pick out the most important and work your way down your list.
15. End your study session by resetting your study space back to its neutral state. Learn to clean.
16. Visualize your day. World-class athletes spend time imagining their up an coming victories and so should you.
17. Evaluate your performance daily on a scale of 1 to 10 based on Effort, Focus, and actual performance during class hours.
18. Set aside 5% of your income for law school emergencies. Remember to be mindful of how you use your money.
19. Smile more often. Bring happiness to law school even when you're hurting
20. Say thank you more often. Gratitude brings more kindness in the cruel world of law school.
21. Say no more often. Say no to toxic relationships and all the things that hold you back.
22. Say yes more often. Say yes to the positive influences thst drive you to become a better person every single day.
23. Call your parents more often.There is nothing that a parent's love cannot heal.
24. Always choose the adult thing to do. Law schoo represents a giant leap into adulthood. All of it is really up to you.
25. Spend your rest day with your family.
26. Spend time with yourself. This will allow you to face the demons in your head. Start winning today.
27. Find an intellectually stimulating activity outside of law school. Learning is a very contextual process.
28. Self-love is self care and it's never selfish. Give yourself a break from time to time.
29. Never go to war against yourself. Law school is a mental game.
30. Never Give Up.

I cried at number 26. I am very very depressed and anxious. Even now that I inquired for the law school admission, I was walking with trembles. They got worse after I graduated. I couldn't function well so as to eat and bathe. But everyday, I fight them, hoping to heal from all the past I've been through and still going through. I sometimes think that I may not do well in law school with this mental health for I am so troubled. But I see hope in what you said. In God's name, I will be a lawyer. God bless you, Sir.

i was a law student but have to stop due to the necesity of securing my tenure in the government. the video indeed give information and guidance on what law school is. kudos to mr. lex, in due time i'll return to law school. natural lang talaga kabahan sa law school pero pag kinain ka ng kaba lagi dapat magbasa dahil un lang naman talaga ang makakatulong para magkaroon ng kumpyansa. that is what my professor advice to us then.

Thank you for the suggestion, kapatid. You're not the first person to put this forward. The closed captions functions for UA-cam are fairly accurate, to get the quotes. One other subscriber has suggested putting together a book, a field guide for not only surviving but thriving in law school in the Philippines.
It's something else to think about because the royalties could go a long, long way for the charities my wife and I support. It'll also help you and future law students coming from as early as senior high school. Again, it's something else to think about. :)

Being a working student in law school is very, very brutal. Don’t worry about failure at this point. Make sure you deliver the good results to make all their sacrifices completely worth it.

My 1st semester in law school has just ended. I did not buy any textbooks nor codals. I used app and soft copies of books for it. I am a working student. I had no enough time to study and it really drained my motivation to pursue my law studies. I only read a day before exams. My biggest struggle was my focus in reading books. I have a goldfish level of focus. I ended browsing fb and youtube. Its so hard, physically exhausting, mentally draining, emotionally torturing. I felt so stupid when I wasn't able to answer my professor. Thankfully I passed all my subjects thru prayers. Going to my second semester, I promise to buy books na and study better. But really really nakakatamad 😭

Thank you so much sir. I’m really eager to enter law school since 2019 after I did a paralegal in my hometown Cebu but I’m in Japan right now living with my wife.. I also have a napolcom eligibility.. I really have a hard time on choosing what to do with my life but the nearest profession I love to do is really becoming a police to serve the people in our country but sad to say I just got diagnosed with an auto-immune disease last year I dont know If Im still qualified or physically fit. If not! I would enter law school soon.. Waiting for the right time or after this pandemic.
