    I have same guitar an I adore it. As an Ibanez guy of 20 years,....this thing is an engineering marvel and I'm so glad I made the switch. A good friend bought one and came by to show it off. I was floored. At a $900 price point its unbeatable. I did have to fret dress mine but no biggy. I've upgraded mine with KTS titanium saddles and high mass Gotoh brass block with brass claw and screws. Plus I installed the F-U Tone noiseless springs in white. Also,...I got the blue anidized Sperzel staggered locking tuners. It really makes that headstock pop. This guitar beats out my $3500 Fender CS on Tone and playability believe it or not.It's that good. I'm now selling said Fendef to fund a Diezel head. All told,.?.?.?.?.NGD never felt so good. Great demo and playing my friend. Subbing now.👍

      @@HeartbreakerGuitars You know?? The alnico neck pickup is surprisingly decent for cleans. Or more like "edge of breakup". But yeah,.....it ok on cleans. The Full Shred bridge pup is incapable of cleans. But if you roll the volume off,.....thanks to the Seymour Duncan 500k Smooth Taper vol pot helps a lot. I think an Sprague orange drop cap would help matters. But it is after all,......a "Super Strat".lol

    So I have the HSS version of this in Shell Pink. It also comes with the Gotoh 2PT bridge. Given that it’s routed for that bridge, if I wanted to replace it with a Floyd would I be able to just do a simple swap out or are there changes I’ll have to make to the body?

    • @EJBGuitar
      @EJBGuitar  3 роки тому +2

      No...the post spread of the Floyd is not the same as the Gotoh bridge. If you really want a Floyd, get a guitar with a Floyd - to change out the Gotoh for a Floyd would require a lot of work on the guitar and cost more $$ than it’d be worth.

    Fantastic review, thank you! Given that you have Floyd Rose equipped guitars for comparison, how close do the Wilkinson locking saddles together with the staggered locking tuners allow you to come to that level of tuning stability?

    • @EJBGuitar
      @EJBGuitar  3 роки тому +2

      Honestly, I’d say it’s 90% of the way there (maybe 95%!!). You still have the strings in a regular nut, so it’s crucial that your nut be cut properly. For the kind of trem use I do the majority of the time, it’s fantastic...and then for the few tunes that we do that are really trem crazy, I have the Floyd guitars. Thanks for the comment!

      @@EJBGuitar Thank you! I was trying to figure out whether a Gotoh 510 (plus locking saddles/tuners) equipped guitar was enough for playing rock/metal songs from the 80s (and general whammy bar fun) and the upgrades you've made is exactly what I had in mind.

    • @EJBGuitar
      @EJBGuitar  3 роки тому +2

      Yeah, I feel safe using this guitar with my ‘80s hair metal project! Like I say, make sure the nut slots are good, and with the locking tuners & saddles, I think you’d be fine. Make sure the 510’s locking studs are locked (Charvel seems to have a habit of leaving them unlocked!), and make sure the bridge is level too...basically just do a good setup on it with your preferred strings, or if you don’t do your own setups, have a good tech do it. I’m really digging this Charvel and don’t feel in any way that I’m “slumming it” when I grab it over any of my “higher end” guitars.

    • @TheNocturnalEvil
      @TheNocturnalEvil 3 роки тому +1

      Replace the nut with a Bill Edwards finger-tite nut that has external adjusters and it will perform as good as a Floyd Rose.
      Unlike Floyd Rose locking nut clamping the Bill Edwards locking nut doesn't change the tuning of the strings. It's because it uses cam based locking mechanism. That's why it eliminates the need of fine tuners in the bridge.
      If you still find minor changes in the tuning the external adjusters on the nut help you to correct it.

    • @BillVerdon
      @BillVerdon 2 роки тому

      @@EJBGuitar so... if you have to rely on a locking feature, is there any advantage of using this trem vs. a Floyd Rose considering the tuning stability track record of a FL and now you have to unlock something to tune it and you really don't have any fine tunners?

    The most rarest humbucker combination is HHH and it should it should be more common. The guitar with the HHH combination I personally like in is the Kramer Jersey Star in White. I also wish Kramer would make the Kramer Jersey Star with a fender bridge with locking saddles, it would make the guitar more affordable than $1500 because it not having a floyd rose.

      No, you tune like normal, but this bridge is still floating so if you change the tuning you have to tweak the tuning of all the strings. The locking saddles don’t change anything about tuning, trem setup, etc.

      Get yourself some Dale's Nut Sauce or the Dunlop Friction Remover. If that doesn't do it,...you have an improperly cut nut. I'm gonna guess it's the G and A string?? If the lube doesn't work you may need a local luthier to open up the string slot on the nut. Very cheap to do. Also lube the string trees. Anytime you have that many friction points,...its truly warrants regular lubing. Best of luck to you. Hope it helps. Love the shell pink ones. Great choice.

    • @EJBGuitar
      @EJBGuitar  3 роки тому

      @@davidramos4317 I didn’t order the locking saddles because I couldn’t keep the guitar in tune...I ordered them because I wanted the added stability when really going overboard with trem use, and also I just thought they were cool when I saw them on Pete Thorn’s Suhr and they reminded me of the system on my Guthrie Govan Signature guitar
      .
      These style trems can’t be used like a Floyd system- they could go out of tune, but subtle use and surely bending notes on the neck didn’t knock it out of tune. If it does then it’s either loose bridge studs or uneven stud height (which is a common thing from the factory, and definitely shouldn’t occur on a brand new guitar), nut slots, or people that just don’t know how to set up a guitar.

    • @EJBGuitar
      @EJBGuitar  3 роки тому

      @@anthonyfera2198 Check the bridge studs...make sure they are tight and adjusted even. Seems like many aren’t on these and I had to adjust mine (which I’d do anyway when setting the guitar up). I didn’t have much tuning trouble with mine even before I put on these saddles after I set mine up. If it ain’t the bridge, it’s gotta be the nut slots! Setup on any floating bridge is critical, even more so on a non-locking system.

Also it sounds like you have quite a bit of experience with Floyd and non-Floyd bridges, so I would like to ask a question: do you think that those locking saddles allow for this type of use (for reference, from minute 1:00 to 1:08): ua-cam.com/video/LpVTsY0SqO0/v-deo.html
    Or do you think that can only be done with a Floyd (in particular the harmonic)?
